Great deal, in for a year.

Steeldeals 02-13-2013 09:46 AM

What's the method of paying taxes when you use one of these cards? Do they deduct the taxes from your balance, or do you get billed separately for the taxes?

killingbe 02-13-2013 09:57 AM

I believe, with a sim card @ $14.99 it comes out to be $39.165/month

santy83 02-13-2013 09:59 AM

Is there anything similar for T-mobile ?

Last time I bought this, it came via snail mail ....

Pretty sure that it does, but to double check, this is the same for the SIM card subscription right?

I purchased this deal from Amazon (CardArt seller) in mid-January for the girlfriend, added it to her current StraightTalk plan online, worked great - increased her service through August 2013. No problems here from this seller (CardArt), and it's a great deal - much cheaper than increasing service directly from StraightTalk.

I'm going to pass this time on buying another, as it seems like every couple weeks CardArt/Amazon has this same deal ($219.99)... it will go out of stock when SlickDealers jump on it... then they'll have more in a couple weeks. (been this way the last few months)

Still a great deal to anyone who needs to add months. And just to be clear, they do send an actual 6 month card via USPS with an unscratched PIN. So theoretically, if you knew you were going to stay with StraightTalk for a while, you could stock up and hang on to them, and worst case, re-sell the physical unused cards at some point if you ever left StraightTalk.

tranceFusion 02-13-2013 10:24 AM

Straight Talk sucks! Their website gave me like 5 different programming-level error messages trying to register my SIM. My port has been "In Progress" for several days and their customer service says there is over a 30 minute wait time, please leave a # and they never call back or hang up when you try to state your issue.

The level of frustration I have experienced dealing with them has exceeded my instincts to be a cheapskate.

AZVike 02-13-2013 10:27 AM

In 4 1. Sucks that my current plan will expire before I get this so I have to buy a 30 day card retail. Oh well, I'll be good to go for 7 months.

Took me 5 days to port. Since then no problems.

I also bought the $30 plan from walmart last Sunday (100min n unlimited text n data). If I buy this card, will I be able to activate the plan with the same phone n sim card?
I am new to this pre-paid thing, I would love to spend extra 6$ (according to a post above it says it comes out close to 36$/month) to have unlimited talk time.

Thanks.

drachen808 02-13-2013 10:32 AM

Just going by the three links in the wiki, it looks like they are doing this every 13th and 20th.

Vokhens 02-13-2013 10:32 AM

are you allowed to tether and stream on ST or t-mobile ?

radarlove86 02-13-2013 10:33 AM

Awesome. I grabbed one each for my wife and me.

Teletubbie 02-13-2013 10:33 AM

The card does not mention the carrier like the ST sim card purchase. Does this refill card work on a ST AT&T sim card?

AaronDotNET 02-13-2013 10:35 AM

This is a great deal. Anyone know how long these cards are good for? I'm still stuck on AT&T for another year.

Tracfone owns straight talk. All this card does when you use it is add 6 months of unlimited use time to your active straight talk account.

You need to buy a SIM card from Straight Talk. I believe they are either $10 or $15. Its a one time purchase so you will still save a lot of money in the long term.

You can bring any phone that works with their SIM cards - for my girlfriend, we brought over her AT&T iPhone 4S. For an iPhone, you have to make some minor changes to phone (http://wiki.howardforums.com/inde...alk_iPhone), but it works great.

For Android, I would imagine it's even easier.

Ya, but with Google voice, it becomes unlimited.

Emjay 02-13-2013 10:59 AM

TracFone service is limited to TracFone-branded handsets (all TracFone handsets are pre-programmed by the manufacturer; therefore, the handset is locked including its latest GSM models). Other GSM handsets will not accept TracFone SIM cards, even if unlocked. Additionally, on most handsets, some features like USB and Bluetooth have been modified by the manufacturer to prevent direct transfer of user files.

The TracFone-branded service allows a customer to buy airtime units to use on selected digital phones by Kyocera, LG, Motorola, and Samsung. Which handset the user purchases decides what type of network the service uses and thus the coverage map. Phone models utilizing the Verizon or Sprint CDMA network have the letter C in the model name, while phones using the GSM network have the letter G.

With ATT GSM how would a sony ion or an iphone work on ST?

It is not that simple. You will need a SIP app to go to google voice, by that time, the voice quality have already been degraded soo much. People need to stop trying to make things looks easy to look cool.

This.

Anyone who doesnt believe him set up a google voice with a number and then use talkatone and witness just how utterly crap the voice quality is. People say "oh just use google voice with $30 tmobile" yet dont mention it is a complete compromise.

Just fyi with nexus 4 the whole HSPA+ thing means ATT sucks really bad.

Tmobile in bay area is like 20mbps down, at&t is like 3 mbps down. Due to att having no hspa, only LTE.

I'd straight talk $45 unlimited plan twice (purchased once in may and once in oct) last year and used about 500mb the first two days just browsing and streaming some content... next day it wouldn't go to 4g, only 2g.... they seem to severely block you away from 4g if you use it more than intended.

With the Android locked to the AT&T the best way is to use an app called APN Backup & Restore. It'll let you delete all of the locked APN settings and input your own values.

Sorry to hear that. I ported my wife and I over a couple weeks ago. Both were done in under an hour. Her number actually only took 15 minutes. It's important to be sure to have all of the correct information for porting. Acct#, PortPin#, Address Info.

Using the Nexus 4 right now. You need to purchase a StraightTalk Micro-Sim for either ATT or T-Mo whatever is better in your area. I've had no problems with my N4 and StraightTalk so far.

Must be an area thing. I get 6-7 down 1-2 up here on ATT HSPA+

Well it is a you get what you pay for service. 500mb is ridiculous use for 2 days. I think I've used maybe 30mb in the last two weeks. I guess I'm around wifi more than the average person.

I believe Verizon you get 3G, ATT and T-Mo you get HSPA+ if available in your area, some devices call that 4G. 7 down HSPA+ is plenty for me on an ATT sim.

Actually yes and no. My contract actually ended last Novemeber, but its my wifes that had another year on it. We had the 200MB data plans and were paying about $120 a month total due to company discount. I did the math and figured a move to ST was worth her cancellation fee. I bought my ST sims and cards and was ready to do the switch. I called up AT&T to cancel our subscription. To my amazement, the lady on the phone actually managed to reduce our bill to $100, which wasn't that much more than 2 X $45 plus taxes. That changed my calculus and convinced me to hold out until her contract is over. Gave the ST cards to my brother as an Xmas gift.

HSPA+ is between 3G and 4G, sort of a 3.5G or quasi-4G. (AT&T calls it 4G.) I've never noticed any throttling, but I'm not a heavy data user.

I've had ST for 4 days now and the speeds and coverage for me are great. I have a galaxy note I which does not have LTE and I get about 2Mbit down at worst and about 4.5Mbit down at best. Not breakneck speeds but certainly good enough for me and significantly faster than sprint.

If you skype every day or watch a few youtube videos{5-15 videos- and each video is about 5 minutes} - would the speed stay steady?
Im just trying to figure out this whole throttling the speed down thing.

Don't know, don't do that stuff. I download podcasts on my way to work though, about 40MB/day. No issues with that so far.

Everything I read has been stay under 2GB/month and 100MB/day and you wont have a problem. If you need more than that, I'd say ST might not be the best for you but its totally YMMV.

Co-signed. I've read much the same thing. My whole family and I have been with ST now for several months with our Nexus 4's. We've been very satisfied with them.

3G Watchdog [google.com] app

The app is great. It will tell you your daily, weekly and monthly data usage totals. You can set up notifications to let you know when you use a certain amount of data. You can even set it up so that it will turn your data off when you get to a predetermined amount. A very useful tool, especially for those that walk the "soft data cap" lines.

What is that ? Straightalk is owned by the richest person in Mexico as well as in bed with Cartels. :-) As soon as people stop buying drugs then they will go out of business.

I got mine today. I ordered one and got TWO!

I have emailed them and English is clearly NOT their primary language. They want to charge me another $220 for it, but I'm not in a position to buy it, which I have told them twice now.

I expect that they will send me a label to send it back. :(

Hi People

I have a question regarding Straight Talk service... So let's assume that someone had 4 recharge pins worth $220 each (or 6 months of unlimited service) from ST.

Now if this person uses all the 4 pins together immediately, would they stack on top of each other to give him 24 months of unlimited service (2 years)?

In other words, my intent is to know if a person can just spend $900 at one shot to get 2 years of unlimited service or not.... Could someone let me know?

Help appreciated. Thanks
Maxie

The term that ST uses is "Add a Service Plan to RESERVE"

I currently have my wife's phone paid for through 1/18/2014.

bought my card a few days ago. You just need to set up an amazon price alert since it seems this seller does it at least a couple times a month. $220 is a STEAL!
