I found it to be. If you're a gamer I'd think you want to jump on this with the IPS panel. Paul's TV got out of VA, so no more tax if you're there.:)

How is the quality? Is this more of a budget TV?

J_DOC 02-13-2013 02:45 PM

It's Panasonic's top of the line non 3d (2d only) LED TV. Quality at a budget price if you don't need or want 3d. It has smart apps with wired ethernet, wifi usb dongle available to make it wireless.

taken from cnet:

"The good: The Panasonic E50 is an attractive LCD TV that offers a solid amount of features, including Smart TV, for the price. Picture quality is better than that of the much more expensive Panasonic DT50.
The bad: That said, picture quality isn't the best, with rival LCDs and plasmas providing better performance for the money. Colors are a little off and a lack of deep blacks and comprehensive shadow detail lets the set down. Uniformity is an issue with large splodges in black areas of the picture. The TV built-in lacks wireless connectivity.
The bottom line: The Panasonic E50 is a budget TV with a smattering of features but little to recommend in the way of picture quality."

I read that too, keep in mind that the price they reviewed it was significantly higher at MSRP of $1699. I've seen the set in person, and at this price, its fairly slick.

Adds wifi, and passive 3d. Might be worth it if you need these features.

viggi85 02-13-2013 03:22 PM

What about IPS? is that a great feature to have?

I got the 55" ET5 which is the 3d model for $100 more a couple weeks ago.

Nice picture but I'm not a hard core video critiquing person. Sound leaves a quite a bit to be desired. The Vizio it replaced had much better sound.

In-plane-switching (IPS) is preferred on monitors because of its lack of color shift, and better viewing angles than other LED/LCD tvs or monitors.

CatCatLei 02-13-2013 03:34 PM

wow, truely a nice deal. however, just got a 3D 47 inch myself.....

I thought IPS panels were bad for gaming because of the response time & possible ghosting issues. I may be wrong...

mholla 02-13-2013 03:41 PM

I was looking at picking up the new 42" Vizio E420d-A0 [amazon.com]. Do you guys think it is worth the extra $70 to get this model?

Possibly, but I think this issue has improved over the years. It should have stable enough response time to eliminate ghosting. This TV has a specific gaming mode setting. Lack of color shift if playing multiplayer in house is the plus.

they use MSRP for all TV's they test...so its all relative

But AT THIS PRICE..its a good deal...like the 3D version and similar LG's that are on sale at Fry's every week

Camelizer only monitors Newegg and Amazon price.

Paul's tv have it for this same price for over a month.

mD- 02-13-2013 04:47 PM

Great deal, but already picked up the UT50 from Costco with a great 2 year warranty and with the option of adding that +3 year for only 60. So far, the glare hasn't been an issue and it the picture looks great. If I didn't get the UT50 and I was choosing between these, I think that I'd actually heavily consider this

Anyone want to answer this... I'm not going to buy this TV but I've always wondered what service people use to ship TVs around? A TV of this size can't be shipped via Fedex's regular service can it? How much would it cost to ship a TV of this size to another person? I remember I was going to sell my 55" TV and the price to ship it was well over $200.

Cruceh 02-13-2013 05:08 PM

I bought the 42" version of this last year for $530 or so. This is a great price for a good looking TV. I kind of prefer my new 60" Panny plasma over the LED, though.

Company called CEVA

boxbot 02-13-2013 06:33 PM

I was going to jump on this, but the Cnet video review was really against this TV saying the blacks were weak and the colors unrealistic. Also, did I see that you can't adjust the backlight? My 6 year old Vizio allowed me to do that.

SuMtOnE 02-13-2013 10:41 PM

looking for.a lcd or led 60" non 3d for good slick price. any recommendation?

whatelse312 02-13-2013 10:45 PM

buy anything but Panasonic. I"ve had a nightmare experience with their warranty and customer service. long story short, i'm on 2months with a broken 55" LED in my living room.

This depends on the settings and even the reviewer. I have found some CNET reviews to be spot on while are ridiculous. Your best bet is to find a local store that carries it and check it out in person.

FatSmurf 02-14-2013 01:52 AM

IPS has become such a buzzword these days.

I think almost anything over 42" that isn't Plasma uses an IPS panel. It's not a big deal on TV's this size, because ALL TV's this size are going to be IPS panels.

Someone earlier in the thread was amazed that you would find an IPS on an LED TV... backlighting has nothing to do with panel type, LED/IPS combos are extremely prevalent.

I purchased the 47" this morning for my mancave. I was going to purchase the LG 47LM4600 that was on sale from Fry's and Newegg for $550 until I read it was not a true 120hz and only had a 60hz panel.

That's interesting that you everything I said is wrong yet you won't respond to it to correct these "fairy tales."

I stand by what I said. Finding anything OTHER than an IPS panel in a TV over 42" is very very rare. (Again, excluding plasmas.) There just aren't that many VA panels in TV's this size. If you show me a few popular TV's that are VA panels at this size, I'd be happy to retract my statement.

edit*** Actually, I take that back, apparently the largest VA panels are 46", not 42"... don't know if they still make them. In any case, any TV this size is going to be IPS. My point still stands.

In fact, I've honestly not seen a single TV over 50" that doesn't use an IPS panel. Truly not a single one, and certainly none that are still be manufactured.

I will gladly correct this information if you can show me large TV's that still use VA.

You must only look at Panasonic and LG's because Samsung/Sony ect. use various different VA panels. For example Samsung UNXXES7100 uses various different panels from various manufacturers, and you have to check the serial number to know what you got.

US0x or TH0x or TS0x: Samsung S-PVA panel

HS0x: Samsung / Sharp ASV panel

A_0X: AU Otronics A-MVA panel

CH0x or CM0x or CS0x: Chi Mei S-MVA panel

Why I said IM not responding as 1 minute of Googling proved your statement incorrect, I personally don't post info of my thoughts as I stated earlier, ( most of the time) Misguide the SD community, I just keep quiet if I don't know what Im talking about and let others inform me if I have a question.
I personally love the way the IPS looks, I have 3 TV's and my 55 panny by far is more impressive then the other Vizio/LG. I would bite on this TV if I needed another one this size. Without a second to spare.

kakazsh 02-14-2013 05:41 PM

I got a 47" VIERA IPS LED. The color is much better than VIZIO E series. The VIZIO has weird particular-color off. Human faces literally change color when you move one seat aside.
Granted VIZIO E series is very budget friendly.

And would they still PM? considering you have to login to get the price..

google "tv panel lottery" as well to edumacate yourself.

there will always be tvs made with inferior hardware so they can make them cheaper. its naive to believe every tv is made with a ips panel or even a mva.
