reps for the bike deal

Darned good price relative to the $75 reg price. I've purchased their 'close-outs' or last-season helmets in the past and have been very happy. Good find...also a few deals on bikes as we (hopefully) head into the spring riding season. Just got my REI Valentine's gift card...time to shop!

dealstack 02-14-2013 06:21 AM

i picked up the uvex helmet from REI for $20 and like it a lot. BUT the sun visor snapped off the first day with the plastic plugs stuck in their slots. I didn't want to return it b/c i liked the fit so much, but these closeout items likely can't be exchanged for same item b/c they are clearing inventory.

any free shipping codes?

V0RT3X 02-14-2013 06:39 AM

Great price but I would suggest you head to an REI near you to test fit it first. I bought random helmet from amazon before and even though all reviews says fitting is great, it still didn't fit me very well

nodaktitan 02-14-2013 07:01 AM

Good find. I purchased this helmet at a local store on BF. Ordered 3 more for the family. Thanks!

Like most stuff at Kohl's, if it's 60% off at REI, it's about normal price....

Many things at REI are certainly higher than other stores, but I've also seen regular-priced items at REI that are CHEAPER than at other chain stores...and that's before factoring in the 10% member dividend or the 5% cash back from the REI visa. None of the "other" stores in my area allow me to take back a product at any time if it doesn't meet expectations...so since I can look past the initial price on the receipt they're usually a much better deal in the long run for many different reasons. To each their own though!

Well....REI is standard retail on many items day to day; but I don't think they have particularly high prices compared to other retailers for in-season mdse. They DO carry some crazy expensive clothing($40 t-shirts, etc) and $200 boots; but most of their cycling apparati run standard retail. Plenty of 20-25% off sales, so stock up when you need tires/tubes, lights, etc. It ain't Big Lots;)

There's REI opening in my town on March 1st, I think I'll order helmet with something extra for $20 and then return that item once the store opens. This way I'll get free shipping

I have found that for a good fit, shoot for the middle of the specifications, not the boundaries.

For instance, Giro specifies a medium helmet at 21.75 - 23.25 inches, and a large at 23.25 - 24.75 inches. If your head is about 23.25 inches in circumference, which is a hat size of of 7 3/8, this helmet is not a good choice. On the other hand, if your head is 22.5 inches, on 7/14, then a medium will fit you well.

joshuaH 02-14-2013 07:55 AM

Medium is already out of stock, it was removed from my cart.

samussiah 02-14-2013 08:24 AM

I wonder if a small would fit the girlfriend.

Thanks, can always use a white one for Summer. For those that missed out, there is a very popular and well reviewed Schwinn one at Amazon for less than this.

iseeu10 02-14-2013 09:03 AM

too bad they are more of a girl style helmet.

dfabix 02-14-2013 09:51 AM

I got 1 to try out (only had Large left) but figure I will wear this if it fits and pass mine on to the wifey.

Worst case scenario, return to REI for refund...they are great if you don't like your product.

v0rtex99 02-14-2013 10:07 AM

Can no longer add it to the cart...must be sold out.

spooky187 02-14-2013 10:29 AM

Shows in stock for me, but for $75 price...So i guess this deal is dead?

dfabix 02-14-2013 10:51 AM

The one that was on sale seems to be all gone now...
They only have the non-sale ones available.

Good luck!

I so wanted to pick this up but I already have the Xar and the Xen. Very cheap for its price. Glad that cycling items are showing up on front page.

Planning to have a Giro Feature for my next helmet. :)
