agreed
nonstick pot is so easy to clean
sticky pot, u have to keep in water for awhile and then clean, otherwise it'll take forever to clean especially if rice dries.

Laid2rest 02-14-2013 04:18 AM

just ordered for the great price with 2day free shipping using shoprunner.. but unable to find any reviews for this model at all

donking 02-14-2013 04:57 AM

I agree. I have gone all non-stick except Rice cooker(tiger costco). Is there one available, preferably stainless steel pot? I am happy with the rice cooker for various rice (white/brown/black). But I would replace the bot if one is available. Mine is a 10cup cooker.

Why would you want to clean sticky pot???

taurus2007 02-14-2013 10:58 AM

5-cup would work better for me since 10-cup is just way too big.

if this was non stick i would def get one!

I agree. Just a note that 1 cup in a rice cooker equals 3/4 cup in a measuring cup. So a 10-cup cooker can hold 7.5 cups of uncooked rice and a 5-cup rice cooker can hold 3.75 cups of uncooked rice. Uncooked rice typically doubles when cooked, so you'd wind up with 15 and 7.5 cups of cooked rice, respectively.

can't find any reviews. How good is this brand and model?

Maceart 02-14-2013 11:21 AM

Tatung is a solid Taiwanese brand that's been around for a long long time. They're better known for their steamer pots/rice cookers that come in a bright red color.

cookiekrush 02-14-2013 11:23 AM

Along with a few others, I'd like to hear some feedback about this product. I don't know much about this brand and I can't seem to find this product online with reviews.

I bought this one from the same manufacturer in August 2011:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6896130001

Mine is running fine, however, I have used it about 30 times. I only use it when I have my parents visiting me. I have a much small one from a different manufacturer to use as I live on my own.

Can't speak for this particular model, but Ta Tung is a quality rice cooker maker. I think they primarily make just rice cookers. Here are reviews for various Ta Tung rice cookers on Amazon: link [amazon.com]

agnall 02-14-2013 11:24 AM

How does this compare to my zojirushi [zojirushi.com]? Any thoughts?

Hydd 02-14-2013 11:31 AM

Repped!

Picked one up... A little big for 2 people, but it'll be great when I've got to entertain.

Edit: A co-worker has the same cooker. He's a HUGE fan but just warned me not to try to put the pot in the dishwasher (although, that seems obvious).

You're basically asking "hey how does this Kia stack up against a BMW?"

Tatung rice cookers aren't anything fancy but they do work reliably for years. My parents have been using the same Tatung bright red rice cooker for at least 25-30 years now...

Hello, fellow asian here. Been eating rice before i got on a boat and paddled me way to 'Merica from China. At birth all asians are given a rice cooker and a violin. I can testify TaTung is a good brand. I have been using mine since birth. Their violins on the other hand..not so good.

I wonder if they rebrand these because I got a rice cooker years ago that looks identical and has been amazing for roughly the same price.

Sticky rice is good if you got some good sauce for it!!!! Sticky pot is not good! LOL

Anyone with this rice cooker can comment on quality? I need something that is reliable.
One issue with rice cookers is...if the pot is too thin, when put on "warm", the rice hardens (not eatable at this point) Anyone know if this happens with this brand?

beeemerm5 02-14-2013 11:43 AM

great deal for a rice cooker..i have this tatung cooker and you can use it to steam buns/cook soup/make rice..

wow, that's the company that made the first computer monitor i've ever owned/bought back in the day :) was a good monitor, so perhaps this is a good rice cooker, although i already have one that seems to work well.

Sorry. Not a 10 cup. NM.

FAMIR 02-14-2013 11:55 AM

Well, Costco has a rice cooker for $30 for everyday price, which has more functions than this one. For more functions, it only means that it have a mode to cook brown rice(which is the only other mode that I care about). And from time to time, there might be a $5 coupon. I got one last time.

DesertCoyote 02-14-2013 11:56 AM

I have the Aroma from Costco. Paid 25 on sale. Looks like the one I have functions the same as this one, but has more options in the controls like: brown rice, white rice, slow cook, steam.

I am usually only making one or two cups of brown rice at a time. It still works well, I just add a little extra water and after 40 minutes I turn it off, otherwise I get a little rice sticking to the bottom.

I had been using Costco's whatever brand rice cooker for ten years now, and went through 4 of them already, the only problem I have is scratched coating, and when that happened, I just toss the cooker in trash, because the coating started to peel off. As I understand, these should happen to all non-stick coating. I haven't had any other problems. And I do enjoy the brown rice cooking mode. For brown rice, it takes a lot more water and a lot longer, the normal mode will not cook it right.

kvt 02-14-2013 12:06 PM

I was thinking the same. Why is this a FP? Costco Always has it and now has the Aroma cooker for $29 and has 'Slow cook' option as well.

This is a basic rice cooker with 'cook' and warm features. The costco version has multiple cooking options and most importantly, delay timer option which is what i use when i want the rice to be ready by certain time by the time guest shows up or make it ready by the time we come home for lunch on weekends after our shopping/kids activities etc.

unless someone is arguing how Costco is not available in their place (but there is target and walmart..! with small size rice cookers), Costco deal beats this deal and ofcourse, easy returns with Costco is a plus....

commission I think. Just like amazon "deals". I won't blame them.
But for the timer function of the costco cooker, I have the older gen one, and can't figure out how the timer at all. I just bought a new one, the cCooker5, and will start with it soon, let's see.

Agree, Friend gifted ours in 2007 and its still going strong. I started seeing the coating off the top edge of pot. I usually am very careful when dealing with cleaning. i use the softer side and only use the rice spoon that came with it.

I also bought another one to replace the cooker even though nothign wrong with the cooker itself but due to coating peeling off.

Four about $80 you can get a 5.5 cup Zoji at Costco. Just seen them there yesterday.

They also have the Aroma for about $30 and I have had it for well over a year and am very satisfied with it. It does brown rice to perfection. However, it is 10 cups.

The delay timer function is simple to use...

1) press the delay timer button (keep pressing the button would change it to 1, 2. 3 and so on and that number indicates hours). After you see the desired no.of hours,

2)simply press 'white rice' button (or any other cooking option available)

and you are done. The cooking will start 2 hours from set time (if you selected 2 by pressing delay timer button).

Hope it helps...
