BW version is the bare drive

Tmsmith616 02-14-2013 06:03 AM

I can't up vote it personally. We've seen with and without desktop installation kit for $150 several times in recent history.

tsimps 02-14-2013 06:04 AM

Ty OP!

doesnt appear to have installation kit included. 150-160 seems to be going price theses days with installation kit not sure how much the kit runs seperate. seems slick if you already have installation kit / your interested in this great game / or your trying and sell it for around 20-30 putting this ssd around 120-130

tmoney468 02-14-2013 06:09 AM

I'm new to SSDs, if I plan to put this is my old MBP (2006), do I need the installation kit? Or is the installation kit only needed for desktop installs?

It would work in MBP, but Samsung does not provide utility for Mac. You cannot even update the firmware without a Windows system. If you can first hook it up to a PC to update the firmware (the latest one is F07 from December and the current batch is shipped with F06), it would be fine for you MBP. The new firmware improves performance after prolonged use when files are fragmented.

sleepybubba 02-14-2013 06:28 AM

$150 for a kit is the right price. Anything above is not slick

Thanks for the info, and I have an old Windows laptop I could use, so that should be fine. I'll probably wait til another deal with the kit for $150 comes around

Unless you want to permanently install it in a desktop, you don't really need the kit.

$150 with the kit was the lowest price. $150 without the kit is still a slick deal and it came up a handful of times lately. I have not seen either one go below that price except with rewards, cash backs, or other coupon considered. I got mine for $120 using 20% off Amazon GC. :D

Not seeing w/ full kit.

kankanjiao 02-14-2013 09:11 AM

Verifying, will report back after research :)

poetuan 02-14-2013 09:17 AM

Model ending with BW does not include kit. KW is the kit version

mattspalace 02-14-2013 09:48 AM

Considering that you can sell that game coupon for ~$30 on eBay, this is a pretty good deal. Especially if you don't need the desktop kit. Many of the newer DIY cases have 2.5" mounts for SSDs. My CoolerMaster HAF does anyway..

VaintaS 02-14-2013 09:56 AM

so sad... i just bought Far Cry 3, weeks ago at $50

ursus 02-14-2013 09:58 AM

wilflare 02-14-2013 10:10 AM

the game is a Steam code or Ubiplay?

Pretty sure it's Ubiplay, since the coupon mentions AMD Promo. I bought a Radeon 7950 a couple of months ago and the Farcry 3 coupon was Ubiplay.

is it worth a spot in my gamefly q?

Scott586 02-14-2013 11:05 AM

This OP's deal is for people interested in the Far Cry 3 game. Try looking at it the other way around and read as:
"Far Cry 3 for $50 and optional 250GB Samsung 840 for $110"
Now people not interested in Far Cry 3 can move on without TC. You should not complain if you don't want the game. :D

How is NCIX in terms of shipping times? Are we talking a couple weeks?

typical free option is UPS ground, sig req'd - for me they've usually shipped same day get confirm by early afternoon

RedZoneOS 02-14-2013 11:49 AM

i'm getting tired of seeing this 840 ssd as a slick deal every friggin day/week. 150 as far as i'm concerned is the expected retail price as its been for a couple of months now. Until this thing drops below 130, its not "slick"

About a day, unless the item you ordered is oos. Everything I've ordered from ncix always comes well packaged :).

VaintaS 02-14-2013 11:53 AM

its a fun game - open world do what ever you want. like gta

Viol8tor 02-14-2013 12:19 PM

Total for me is $174.39 with CA tax. But Far Cry 3 is a sweet bonus. (The game is amazing BTW, for those not in the know)

Think i''ll wait for a similar deal with a no tax seller.

phedoblue 02-14-2013 12:21 PM

where do i input the coupon? can't find a line for that, please help

Coupon for FC3? You don't have input anything. It will be included with the ssd, once purchased.

purecash123 02-14-2013 01:00 PM

Wow, the price for this 840 has been coming down steadily. I hope the pro version is far from doing that also...

it's a $30+ game... so it's not bad

but I don't see the game being added????

Potato42 02-14-2013 01:46 PM

It looks like the free game is no longer being included. bummer. Great deal with the game though.

What does the installation kit do for this? I'm a noob.

Hey how do you know the game is not included?

Illuminati 02-14-2013 06:29 PM

Potato42 02-14-2013 07:17 PM

It showed the special offer in a BONUS field between "Our price" and "availability" fields. It still shows up briefly for me when I load the page, but promptly disappears so it looks like they hastily removed the offer. I guess I'll just wait for the $150 deal again. Too bad because I think $160 with Frycry 3 (worth ~ $30) is better.

Another lukewarm deal. $140 and we'll talk.

575rider 02-21-2013 05:29 PM

Ordered when free game was in cart, but did not receive anything in the box. Anyone else?

erik162000 02-24-2013 08:38 PM

I did not receive my Far Cry 3 code either. I called NCIX on Tuesday and the rep told me it would be emailed to me within 5 business days. I will call back tomorrow if I don't receive an email.

575rider 02-26-2013 01:15 PM

Yeah, they're really dropping the ball on this one. Emailed customer service twice with zero response. Then emailed an employee directly (had his email from a previous issue). Responded saying their "team" is trying to figure out a resolution and they are compiling a list of affected customers. I requested he just send me a prepaid return label for the drive. Will update once I hear back.

funnyguy84 02-26-2013 06:36 PM

Same issue here. I was told that 5-7 business days after DELIVERY the email will be sent out. That still leaves a day or two I think for me. That seems excessive and this is the second time in as many weeks I've had difficulty with NCIX.
