There are various threads floating around slickdeals for this TV going for $749. Threads like http://slickdeals.net/f/5816680-P...rts-Jan-31

Just came back from my local Costco warehouse and much to my surprise Costco is now selling this for $699 until February 24th. Limit 2. All other details from above thread still valid. My store had at least ten of them.

wikipost 02-14-2013 08:37 PM

This deal has been extended to 3/10/2013 online. Not sure about in-store yet.

beachin 02-14-2013 09:05 PM

Online it still shows the $749.00 we need a new TV as our Samsung has been nothing but trouble and even after the service tech came out if keeps shutting off! On top of buying a home this is one expense we would like to save on so thanks for the info. Will follow up after talking to them...

By the way, where do you live that you got it for that price?

haydeecm 02-14-2013 11:21 PM

I went to costco today and I didnt see it. It would be nice if it was online so I could call and get it adjusted.

Mako1215 02-14-2013 11:22 PM

699.99 @ my store. This TV PQ is amazing. Blows away the LG/Samsung plasmas we have.

teixeirarosa 02-15-2013 04:38 AM

This is the price at my store in Avon, MA

executivedealer 02-15-2013 04:44 AM

So we already went in and got the difference for the $50, if this is the actual price at the store, I wonder if they'll give us the difference again? That would truly be amazing.

343guiltyspark 02-15-2013 05:00 AM

I repped you op. Thanks for letting us know about this. I ordered a Ut50 for $749 last week, haven't even received it yet, so I will contact costco this weekend to get the $50 difference refunded back to me.

Panasonic Smart Viera 55'' UT50 Series Full HD 3D Plasma HDTV $699 at Costco!!

Panasonic Smart Viera 55'' UT50 Series Full HD 3D Plasma HDTV $699 at Costco!!

Just got one from store for $699.

It says $749 after $50 off online, but in store got one for $699 - after $100 - they had plenty when I went there yesterday. (Sterling VA)

Panasonic plasmas are the best.

good find. I got the p55st50 & still have no regrets, but this is a lot cheaper, and if you don't care about 3d and/or using it in a brightest room, this is really appealing. Not for me, but thumbs up!

[thanks to executivedealer for correction that this does have 3d]

This TV has 3D but agree on the brightest room comment.

Oops, sorry, thanks for correction. I think I got "UT" and "U" confused. You can tell I was only looking at ST & up. Windows to worry about :)

If I am right, the basic difference here are (besides anti-glare/step down in panel), no wifi built in?

mrbb008 02-15-2013 06:05 AM

thanks for the $50! Still thinking about keeping this plasma, the buzzing sort of annoys me but picture quality is awesome.

Right, no anti-glare and it's wifi capable but you have to buy the wifi adapter for it to get it to work. I have it sitting a few feet behind me, it's my baby ;-). I couldn't justify spending an extra 1k for the anti-glare feature, especially when I don't find too much time to spend on the TV, although it would be nice :-)

Understood, but just to correct, no reason to pay $1k more. I only paid $350 more that this price for my p55st50 -- and I think amazon had it $50 less at one point (I gambled it would go lower & lost). But yeah, that is still almost 50% premium, so general point taken.

codeyf 02-15-2013 06:28 AM

UT also has considerably less inputs I believe? I remember looking at the back panel when considering this TV and found it to be pretty sparse looking.

Came down to this TV or the 60" U50. In the end, I didn't care about smart/3D features and opted for the bigger screen size. But it was very much a win/win scenario for me I think.

I never saw the 55ST50 for $1050, where did you get that deal?

Right, that's the other difference vs ST50, only 2 HDMI, one component, and no side HDMI input. If I get another source I'll have to buy a switcher (using component for Comcast right now).

Stand doesn't swivel either.

Panasonic EPP. I thought amazon also had it for ~$1000 in early November (after figuring in their amazon rewards credit promotion), but my memory may be faulty.

You're right, it was like $1070 on EPP, can't remember if that was before or after tax. Amazon wasn't that low though, or I'd have bought it.

Before tax. And you are right also, amazon was not $1000. Camel says lowest was $1129, minus the 2% rewards deal they were running (amazon rewards is a s good as cash to any true SDer), it was just over $1100. But no tax for me, it would have been better than the EPP price because of that (and not taken SO D@MN LONG to ship to me either, lol).

The true deal (for my needs) that I let pass by was the P60ST50 from EPP for $1375 ... sigh. That price I remember VERY clearly :(

Prince01 02-15-2013 08:14 AM

Well, I guess I will wait for GT or VT to come down couple of hundreds bucks and then I will pull the trigger.
I would be all over this if this only has build in WiFi, cant go through that adapter .

nl2134 02-15-2013 08:49 AM

I've been looking at this TV for awhile now, but I'm having a really hard time pulling the trigger because I have a bright room. I know Costco has their 90 day return policy, but is the necessity for having a controlled light environment overrated, or does it ring true for this line of plasma models?

The UT50 also lacks some picture controls like gamma, and white balance is only adjustable through the service menu.

The lowest the 55ST50 went was $999 from Frys for a week in October

Second lowest was $1024 from Panasonic EPP around Black Friday, but was gone in a few days.

I was following the price of the 55ST50 all year, thinking it would get down to $799 like the 55ST30 from last year, but it never did. I ended up picking up an open box 55ST50 from Best Buy

I've had a Panasonic plasma for 10 years, and thought the lack of anti-glare filter on the UT50 was overrated. How could it be worse than my old plasma? But in fact it was. Beautiful picture at night with the lights out, but trying to watch in the daytime, or with the lights on behind me, and there was mirror-like glare, especially in dark scenes.

I ended up returning the UT50 and getting an ST50. If you cannot control the light in your viewing environment, you might want to skip the UT50 and get at least an ST50

Thanks a lot. Appreciate the insight. I had a feeling, especially since even my Samsung LCD from around 5 years ago had some glare in my super bright room.

You know you can solve the lack of built-in WiFi with a WiFi gaming adapter or media bridge right? These devices take a WiFi signal and convert it to a wired ethernet connection.

A while back I picked up several TRENDnet TEW-647GA for $25 each to have just in case I run into something like this. You could also step up to the TEW-640MB model which has 4 ethernet ports built-in. Those are nice for an entertainment center where you may have multiple devices without built-in WiFi that need an internet connection.

homergreg 02-15-2013 10:58 AM

The glare is the only issue I have with this set. I've been looking for an led/LCD to put in my living room, but so far, I haven't found one with near the picture quality of this plasma. It may be the signal, but there is just too stuttering of motion when I look at the led/LCD picture at the stores. Hoping the ST50 goes down or I'll wait for the ST60 and then have the UT50 as a great home theater set for the basement! Right now this works fine if I close the blinds or view the tv a little off angle but perpendicular with a light source behind you and a dark movie, you get a pretty big mirror effect.

Last year’s models will only increase in price from here on, you’re too late for a deal on those. They bottomed and are increasing.

Best bet now would be an EPP deal on an ST60.

You can use any wireless bridge, you don't need to buy their adapter.

I love my UT50, but it’s absolutely true, it’s as reflective as a mirror, literally. You wouldn’t want to watch say, Lord of the Rings, before 6 pm. NFL games and other bright full screen content are fine.

moktor 02-15-2013 12:59 PM

I bought this TV two weeks ago when it was $749. Just went over on lunch and got the difference refunded!

So far I absolutely love the TV. It is reflective, but I have it in a room where it is very easy to control the lighting.

Did you buy it online or at the store. I don't know if I should try it since they frequently have lower prices at the store, but this is not a price adjustment, its a manufacturer discount.
Hopefully the website price will change also in the next few days.

This is an amazing deal, BTW. I love mine.

Has anyone figured out how to stream movies from their computer to their TV wirelessly or even wired through an ethernet cable?

It has been figured out for us! It is called DLNA and you can implement it several ways. http://www.ehow.com/how_8617459_s...erver.html

Ugh if this had 3 HDMI ports I would be all over it. The inconvenience of having to unplug and plug things back and forth its very annoying when paying $700.

You could just buy a switch like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Kinivo-301B...dmi+switch

The switch works automatically so it's arguably more convenient than manual switching from between HDMI ports through the tv.

Just buy an HDMI switcher from monoprice.

the only downside would be that you're gonna have the same settings for every source coming from the switcher. So you wouldn't want say, the XBox & Blu-Ray coming from the switcher.

executivedealer 02-17-2013 05:40 AM

I can confirm the price went down to $699 in the Tampa, FL area as well. However, my first try at getting the difference back doesn't work, I'm going to try again and if it still doesn't work I'll just return and buy a new one.

iredline5 02-17-2013 01:10 PM

Price is 699 at waterbury,ct costco but was denied the adjustment, the clerk said it was a manufacture rebate and they will be cutting me a check per upper management. I call BS on that info and now Im going to packing this plasma back to getting a refund.

homergreg 02-17-2013 01:28 PM

Wow you would think these stores would realize with their return policy, that pulling stunts like that will just result in them having a bunch of open box returns to deal with. It's gotta be more economical to just do the price adjustment and have happier customers to boot.

jean05jean 02-20-2013 12:30 PM

the lowest price for 55 inch ST50 was Jan. 2012 when it was $899 at frys. Some got amazon and bestbuy to match the price.

does ST50 worth the extra compare to this UT50 $699?

If you cannot control the light in your viewing area, you might want to pay more for the ST50. See my earlier post

Just went into Costco today and it's still on sale at $699.

prkrastn8 03-02-2013 12:17 AM

I got this TV the 1st day the ad came out for $749. Week or two later was at Costco and notice it was $699 so I showed them my recipe and got $50 bucks back in cash. Today I open my mail and see Costco sent me a $50 CostCo Cash Card with a letter stating I bought tv for $749 but they got a better deal on the TVs now so they sent me a $50 dollar cash card. So I ended up paying only $649+ tax for this TV! Great TV and Amazing price, plus 2 year warranty couldn't be happier.

LOL, never thought of checking stock that way.

What would your wife say if the truck pulled up with 274 TVs?

I also bought the first day the coupon came out for $749. Also got a refund, but did it by calling them on the phone. But I guess I wasn't as lucky as you on the double dipping. I wonder if it had to do w doing it at the store. I'm still happy w the price tho.
