How do you tell what kind of panel is in it? I've seen the panny IPS ones, but as far as reviews, panny is superior in plasmas, and not LCDs. Thanks for any informative input!

It's the superior backlit LED technology. Edge lit (thin) LCDs are atrocious and have flashlighting and horrible screen uniformity. if I were to get an LED LCD I would most certainly buy a "fat boy" for the superior picture quality over edge lit....but plasma still takes the cake. :)

This is an awesome TV!!! Have had it for a couple of months now. Same model but without the 3D. Yes its not slim but it has full array lighting, which looks way better than the edge lit lighting on the thinner TV's. If you have it sitting on a stand you cant even tell the difference. Just take some time to adjust the settings based on things like viewing distance, whether you are close to windows, etc. and it will look great!

Pretty much all TV's are usually IPS or VA panels. Both offer good color and viewing angles in comparison with TN. If you are worried about a TV having a TN panel no TVs that I am aware of are TN panels unless they are the smaller < 32in type, even the cheapest TVs.

Reviews on Amazon are saying this is a 60Hz set.

guyver2077 02-15-2013 11:26 AM

Well, I purchased same TV from bestbuy at $949 at bestbuy last Thanks Giving. Well, I am happy with this TV. But please note, I have 1 dedicated laptop for TV which I use for Internet stuff (watch on 55inch TV)..this TV is not smart TV, but I have smart 3D blue ray (Samsung) so that works for me..I am happy with this TV, only concern is its depts is too much..but I don't care as I am getting 55inch 3D (Active 3D) branded for $949..Please let me know, if you have any question abt this TV..I can answer it..

Probably a dumb question....but i'm thinking about finally upgrading from my ages old toshiba regza 32" to this one....how does the shipping/delivery of these from tigerdirect work?? UPS usually leaves my tigerdirect stuff at my back door, but don't really want a TV sitting there till I get home!!! I realize they probably don't leave it out like that..it was just sarcasm! But how does it work??

That's not actually correct, these are bottom lit, whereas the ES models are edgelit.

The EH series was a marketing blitz by Samsung rolling their unprofitable LCD business into their profitable LED division even though the EH LEDs are as thick as LCDS and even the thickest LEDs in 2011 were 1.6" thick, whereas this year the EH models are 3.1" thick. Not necessarily a deal killer, but it was very interesting to see LED that were that thick when they came out.

krsbay 02-16-2013 05:40 PM

Look how thick this TV is! Are they still making TVs this fat? These fat TV should be dirt cheap now that there is the newer thin TVs, and personally I wouldn't buy any thick TV no matter how cheap it is. The reason these TVs are still selling for this much is because people are still buying them, and if it wasn't for that you'll find the new thin TVs cheaper than this one!

you need to do your research before making yourself look like an idiot

the reason this TV is thick is because this is the full LED array TV. the thin ones are edge lit LED.
