Need a new desktop PC

My laptop died. The husband wants a desktop, but I would prefer a laptop.

Try to find a good deal on either.

We are not very techy. Our desktop was probably about 8 years old. We still have the big ole monitor that takes up half your desk.

Used mainly for internet, playing games (not gamer games, things like bejeweled), writing in word, burning dvds and cds.

This may be crazy- but would like to stay under $300. Is it even possible?

Thanks for your help!

Your best bet: Find someone who knows how to build pc's locally and ask what they can do.

$300 is really pushing it, you shouldn't really expect that until black friday for a computer that's pretty crap to begin with.

$400-$500 is more reasonable, especially if you find someone to build you a pc and explain you really just need the bare basics

I was afraid of that being too low. Thank you for the help though.

Guess we will have to save up a while.

Yeah, it's do-able for under $300 - check the Dell outlet: http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnli...1&fid=8551

Uncheck any models & sort by price

Yes! Office Depot has a NEW not refurbished basic HP desktop that goes on sale often for around $300 with free shipping. It has Windows 8 though and you can't override it and install a different OS. For some people that matters.

Also check at http://www.newegg.com for similar frequent deals in the same price range.

Thank you so much for the help! I won't give up hope. Would be nice to get one so I don't have to share my netbook. Not my precious!

If you know someone who can build a PC you can pick up the parts from Newegg for under $300. You will need an OS key (any computer tech has a corporate or cracked key of Win 7). Also try Best Buy and Staples for open box which are typically 15% off or more. Might be a few Win 7 clearance models floating around.

Thankfully, all these kind folk corrected my misstatement from earlier. I have literally just saw an advertisement for a Toshiba laptop at best buy for about $270 as well. Looks like breakingthebank beat me to the punch. Good luck!
