pbmpharmacist 02-15-2013 11:15 AM

I got one for $112 at staples around the holidays. Awesome drive!

tehbread 02-15-2013 11:31 AM

I alerted amazon that newegg has this lower price as soon as this deal was posted. The system works?

HarryH3 02-15-2013 11:34 AM

The price on these has really dropped. Last summer they were $199.99. I have had 2 in use since then with no problems.

mahers 02-15-2013 11:40 AM

I guess if you need the "portable" one, this makes sense, but it looks like there is a similar "desktop" one at Fry's on sale for $99 [frys.com]. I have an older Seagate that is starting to make some weird sounds, and is getting full in fact, so I may need to spring for one.

arbitJP 02-15-2013 11:43 AM

amazon had a $10 tax for TX ... but who can beat their customer service... decisions... decisions...

jak995 02-15-2013 11:50 AM

For those charged with tax on Amazon and Newegg, BHPhoto has it for $134.95 shipped (add to cart to see price):

I've had some issues with them being picky about USB ports and cords, apparently not getting quite enough power to work reliably. Problem is a soldered USB interface and proprietary innards. I prefer having a removable SATA drive inside an enclosure, like this 1.5 TB for $90. Gives you more flexibility for future use, too.

sorry to hear that. I DJ I am constantly unplugging and plugging them and have never had any problem other than running out of space because I store all my music on them and then I just upgrade hence my post.

mike_saenz 02-16-2013 05:22 AM

Nice, thanks.

Works for me. Some Newegg codes require you to be subscribed to their email list; this might be one of them.

Genos 02-16-2013 10:39 AM

Wow, that look pretty thick. I wonder if there's 2 portable drives stack on top of each other in the enclosure, lol

whatthechicken 02-16-2013 04:39 PM

How long before these are going to be $100 or less?

priceprince 02-16-2013 08:37 PM

Meh, not that great of a deal. Costco's normal price for these is $140.

newnewy 02-17-2013 07:49 AM

These have hit $105 many times in the last 6 months. If you don't need one urgently, I would wait.

Glad to hear it wasn't just me - I also have a WD Passport that "failed". It only works about one in 30 times that you power it on.
