I've been scoping out a Pentax K-30 for a while, but the best price on that is $620 with just the kit lens.

All I have now is a 4-year-old $200 point and shoot, so maybe I should just pull the trigger on this. I know the K30 is superior in image quality, but whatever I get right now will be a giant leap and fun to have.

I dont think there is a major difference in image quality between these two.. On the STM lens, its mostly helpful on video mode..i am not sure on the real world scenarios.. at 600$ i would go for T3I...just my thought....

I am debating between the Canon T3i and Nikon N5200, but the prices for the T3i are exceptional in comparison to the N5200 -- even though the 5200 is a better camera.

I heard in some forums that the T3i is actually faster in some scenarios vs. the T4i.

How so? that is a common deal..the one in this thread is not.

If you sold the 55-250 ($140 after fees and shipping), the carrying case ($20 after fees and shipping), and the software ($80 after fees and shipping) in this bundle, you could get the T3i and the 18-55 for $370-380. This deal is way more slick.

For most people - This is a great deal. With the kit lens - You will be able to take some decent pictures.
I cant tell you about IQ as most people who will put on Auto and take pictures anyway.
Until you decide to get serious then stick with 1 brand and buy some good lens.
I have Pentax, Nikon, Canon a few of each brand.
I've invested in Canon lens as I can get some decent deal from this stupid SDers :)
I took many good pictures of my daughter playing soccer with Basic Pentax with kits lens.
I am still struggle to get good pictures of her playing volleyball indoor using the 5D MK3 with 70-200 L 2.8 len. So it is not the camera. It is the USER error :)

Will someone be kind enough to suggest which one should I get for general photography and what's the advantage of getting the one you suggest. I will really appreciate any input.

t4i is better for video (especially moving subjects). If you don't know much about videos, it may be better for with t3i as you practice more video shots.

Not going to get $80 out of that software... Like $50 after fees, MAYBE... For $450 you ought to be able to buy the camera on Craigslist and save some hassle of selling stuff... It is an OK deal, and the T3i is a decent camera (But all these T cameras from Canon sure feel like cheap plastic these days...)

55-250 lens is very good. Probably, you can get it for $150 from flippers. It is worth every penny.

I know. Get Sigma 30mm as well. T3i with Sigma 30mm feels awesome.

Sigma 30mm is a great lens if u get a good version and if u don't plan on going full frame in the near future. 55-250mm is a good lens but pretty boring to use, for the $150-$200 price tag it's not a bad telephoto lens to start. It's not the quickest or the sharpest but necessary focal length for some situation. If u are like me and don't care too much for a telephoto lens, I would throw that on Craigslist and get a 40mm 2.8 pancake lens. There are many good reviews on both built quality and sharpness of this little guy. It's an EF lens so it will work with any EOS camera. And for the price tag of $150 on amazon, it's just an amazing lens.

I started buying a bunch of cheap zoom lens when I got into photography, now I've sold all those and just invest in good glass cause picture quality is what goes through those glass not so much the camera body.

Just knowing what kind of photography you will be doing is very important. I'm more of a portrait photographer so I love fixed focal length lens....and my 70-200mm 2.8L(that thing is just a beast!)

I bought a Sandisk 64gb class 10 SD for $40 (32gb for $20) at Adoroma. I don't think it's on sale anymore, but a name brand, class 10 SD should be fine. If you're doing video, it may be wise to spend a few dollars more on the pro card.

Sandisk extreme pro if u wanna do videos. Sandisk extreme for just regular photo shooting.

Have been watching this camera for WEEKS. At 64....how much time a person has left to enjoy it is the problem. Great price....but they can be a money-pit also with the filters and all. I have the Canon SX40 that I like....still don't know yet. I doubt I could tell the picture quality between the two....we'll see. I have the $$$ but do I have it to spare? Maybe....

Depends really on what you're looking for in a beginner camera. There are pros and cons to them both, though this depends on what subjects you're trying to cover.

) and there really aren't any significant drawbacks to it when compared to the T3i as both are crop sensored.

Either way you end up, knowing where and how to shoot would do you best.

Just received it yesterday. Love it so far. Just wondering if I should sell both 18-55 and 55-250 lenses and get 18-135 lens. Would that be a good idea? Also what is the best place to sell adobe photoshop element 10 since I already have 11.

Just my personal preference, but I like having the 18-135 so I can go pretty wide or zoom in all without having to change lenses. You lose out on the 135-250 range, but in my opinion it's worth the tradeoff so you don't have to switch lenses back and forth in the middle of a shoot. Right now the 18-135 is going for around $300 on amazon, which is pretty good. You might want to check craigslist or other online classifieds to find it even cheaper.
