Ugh, I would so pull the trigger on this but a). I think I want to go 60" and b). I really want to see what the 2013s look like. It sucks that I want a TV now, but we're SO CLOSE to the newer models.

Either way, this a great TV and a great deal.

moremoney 02-15-2013 03:11 PM

Good deal for a great TV. TU and repped.

Man I'm right there with you. I believe the 2013's come with 3D glasses too so even more reason to wait... Unfortunately for the 55 inch 2013 I'm guessing starting price at $700+ this at minimum. I too want 60" minimum but for a 2012 VT series... This is going to take some pondering for the next few hours

Yeah, 2013 should be awesome especially with the ZT, but the price won't be too fun:D

MarkAELSU 02-15-2013 03:23 PM

Yeah just looked at the VT50 starting price on Amazon, it was $2,500. Me thinks I'll be going 60" ST60 but this I THINK will still have better picture than even the ST60 upcoming wouldn't you think?

magnamover 02-15-2013 03:26 PM

I just picked up the GT model equivalent and I cannot believe the 2013s are going to have a better picture. I have read that the smart TV functions are better but that isn't a big deal. I picked up 4 pair of glasses for $19 a piece on Amazon. The 2013s will just cost more.

MarkAELSU 02-15-2013 03:26 PM

Ha, and they will most certainly have advanced their technology magna.... trust me man

343guiltyspark 02-15-2013 03:27 PM

Damn, that's a good price. Isnt the gt50 still at $1399 on amazon? This is only $100 more for the top end 2012 model.

Definitely. I read somewhere ST60 may have the GT50 panel. This will definitely be a better deal for this time.

I think so too. I've been without a tv for 3 months now since the last 2 leds I returned. I'm definitely set on plasma, and should have bought a 60" gt50 or e7000 3 months ago but kept waiting, and now it actually makes sense to wait but I really dont want to. Panasonic says st60 in 60" won't ship til April though :'( not sure about vt60 but it will probably be out of my budget. Ayyyyyyyeeee

fiveohfour 02-15-2013 03:35 PM

The 2013's aren't a mystery, my personal opinion is that with the upgrades the VT50 will still be better than ST60, As far as we know the st50 will still fall short of a couple specs like the ultra filter and the extra shades of grey

Bummer. I got GT50 55" for $1339 free shipping no tax (to California). VT50 would have been nice for $1499 but I think I'd have to pay tax? That would put it to $1640+. VT50 worth $300 more than GT50?

that's so subjective. I would say no, but others would say yes. I wanted to pick up the 55st50 but was waiting on a better price, and now that everyone is either OOS or the prices went up, i have to get this.

Yea I thought about holding till 65ZT60, but it will be retailing at $3700. I decided to buy the 2012 65VT50 instead for $2400. It's not worth $1300 improvement in my opinion. Save that into my pocket and happy with 2012 VT.

i just picked this one up... in hindsight i wish i would've picked up the gt 60" which was on sale for the same price. with these prices, no reason to wait - unless they get rid of that stupid chrome bezel on the edges...

no i didn't buy first, just had it in my cart, and had them call me. then she said she'd stay on the phone while i ordered it, which i did, then once it was placed she took it from there and changed it to $1499.99

kevbeck122 02-15-2013 06:37 PM

If you have any troubles price matching at Amazon, point them to Paul's coupon site, where the SAVE500 code shows up for the TC-P55VT50: http://www.paulstv.com/coupons.asp.

I ordered this TV from Paul's on Tuesday at the $1,599.99 price - first tried matching at Amazon, but they wouldn't go for it since the coupon wasn't listed on that page for that TV. Trying to get a price adjustment at Paul's now, but I'm not holding my breath...

People price match due to credits (tax considerations). Paul's is reputable, and been around awhile. No reason not to buy, they are authorized Panasonic seller.

PaulsTV shows a freight cost of $800 for shipping to me in Hawaii. Also, amazon will not ship any TVs > 50" to Hawaii so SOL there. On top of that, I had $40 worth of RewardZone certificates (courtesy of their facebook polls and whatnot) as well as $45 worth of bestbuy gift cards from their small device recycling program.

Anyways, sweet deal w/ the BestBuy pricematch for anyone in areas where amazon or paulstv doesnt ship free to.

Product Price (phone price match): $1499.99
Sales Tax (Hawaii): $68.79
Subtotal: $1568.78

RewardZone Certificates: $40.00
BBY Gift Cards: $45.00

Grand Total:$1483.78

Now, I just need to return the Samsung 55ES7150 that I bought from costco last month

Amazon has a generous return policy with TVs. Should you encounter a defect or other problem after delivery, nearly all retailers tell you to work it out with the manufacturer (and good luck dealing directly with Panasonic; from what I've read, their customer service is not good). Amazon, on the other hand, has repeatedly been reported to offer a refund or exchange. That's why I prefer to deal with Amazon. Paul'sTV seems to have a good reputation, but they aren't local to me and I'm not sure if their customer service is as good over the phone.

I did have the Kuro and updated to 65VT50. Kuro still has better picture overall. Sound quality in these Panasonics are crap. Sounds very hollow, thin, and muffled.

Even if the new reviews are excellent, we're still getting an outstanding value on the VT50 so I can't see us having any regrets. This is the best plasma of 2012 and quite possibly the very best TV of 2012 and we're getting it for the bargain of the year.

I agree with you. I think it's done on purpose to force consumers to buy soundbars or force to hook up to their home theater system.

I do own a fancy home theater, but there are times I don't want to fire up the whole system, say watching the news or sports. I don't want to drain electricity!

Yea, my VT sounds like poop. Gosh, I miss my old Kuro. It sounded really good for TV speakers...

Good to hear. Didn't fill out the form, but I chatted with a couple of CSRs and they said they put the credit through.

I noticed on the coupon page in the fine print that they weren't good for previous purchases, that's why I didn't think it would work.

Your buying the tv ultimately bc of its picture. Not its sound. And with the flatter and thinner panels we see today, where does that leave room for speakers? Ahhh right it doesn't.

I got in on their 55GT50 sale before something like that happen to me. At this price for the 55VT50 is great IMO. I would have a much harder time choosing which to go for if this price came around sooner between the VT or GT series. Great TV for the living room if lighting is not an issue and with the bezel less design is very nice plus cant forget that nifty touch pad controller. Where did you purchase it from, I've been looking at 50"ers but last week I ordered the 50" GT50 from Amazon for 999 after the paulstv price match, it looks like on Paul's TV he 50" gt has gone up by 50 bucks but still a good deal, maybe if I was getting the 55" it would be easy to justify 300 more for the vt50, but it would be over 500 more for me so for now I'm sticking with my deal. Only thing that would change it would be seeing more specs for the st60, I just saw it does still have half the shades of grey as 2012 gt50 but does have the single sheet of glass construction, I heard it mentioned that that made the vt60 brighter but does anyone know if there are any inherent quality or performance perks for the st60 since its using the single sheet now. I would get the vt50 in your case for sure but that's just me

all i know is they are like $20 and samsung. don't have a model for you.

FInally got the TV from pauls. I'm in MI and they said they couldn't do the no sales tax, but they lowered the price of the TV to compensate and I ended up at like 1480 delivered.

Spent a little more than I wanted to (was originally hoping for a 55st50 for like 1200) but I think 280 more for the VT will be worth it.

going from no tv to one of the best ever... haha, can't complain.

sprdoorman 02-16-2013 08:43 AM

Trying to get Amazon to price match. Directed them to the Paul's Coupon site. Lady said that all looks good, but that they needed to elevate to another level for approval since the match is more than 20% of the price. Said will try to get back to me today - if not won't be till Tuesday.
Only reason trying to do this is the 24 month free financing with the Amazon Store Card. Paul's is only offering a 6 month deal online. (48 month if you buy in-store)

Hope it comes thru. Our CRT TV is on its last legs. Great deal on what should be a great TV.

Thanks OP

Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic came together to create a standard for 3D glasses... they work over Bluetooth. More info here: http://www.fullhd3dglasses.com/

Got it from buydig/beach camera. They're out of stock now. I'd go for the VT50 here, if I didn't already purchase a GT50.

at 1500 for the 55 VT, it's very hard to spend marginally less to get a GT or ST IMO.

I got my VT for 1480 shipped, and I was hoping for an ST at 1200 shipped. Price difference seems worth it.

fortune 02-16-2013 11:39 AM

awesome deal! thanks

brendanjered 02-16-2013 12:08 PM

Awesome deal and perfect timing! Had ordered a different Panasonic back around Black Friday from Amazon, only to have it show up with a cracked screen. Was extended $100 toward a different set to compensate, which expired a couple days ago. Not only did I get the price match, but also got the $100 taken off. $1400, free shipping, and no tax! Thanks OP!

So you have been using the cracked screen since BF? Amazon requires that they pricematch with white glove delivery which they did with my purchase last September so my total went up over $1700 total. I used all my points and left some to get 3% CB from my Amazon Visa card.

No, the cracked screen was sent back on the spot. They essentially gave me $100 to use on a future purchase.

Only reason trying to do this is the 24 month free financing with the Amazon Store Card. Paul's is only offering a 6 month deal online. (48 month if you buy in-store)

Hope it comes thru. Our CRT TV is on its last legs. Great deal on what should be a great TV.

Thanks OP

Amazon called me back and approved the price match! Talked to Mary. Got the 24 month - no interest financing and added a Panasonic Blu-ray player to the order too.

Now, can't wait till it gets here.

Was wanting to wait for the new 2013 models and the ST's but I got Amazon to price match the $1,499 and used my store card for 24 months no interest so how could I pass this up? Will be replacing an old 42" Panny plasma that I have had for about 7-8 years. Got the cheap Samsung 3d glasses. Off to AVS to look for D-Nice's settings and break in info. Thanks OP, repped!

its been a few years since I have seen a Kuro

However....I think this years VT is a better Tv than the Kuro

the Kuro may have a slightly better black level...but the this years Panasonic has better color processing and a WAY better feature set

COKEORPEPSI50 02-16-2013 02:05 PM

I got this TV a couple weeks ago from Amazon Warehouse Deals for $1316. It was repackaged but the TV itself was brand new. It's definitely one of the best purchases I've made.

bmsyko 02-16-2013 02:10 PM

FYI I asked several People here that got Amazon to price match this deal if they had to pay the tax. The answer is YES! I live in California. So in this case it's better to order the TV straight from Paul's TV who is waiving the tax this weekend even if you live in Cali

soldoutmatinee 02-16-2013 02:12 PM

waiting for the 65" version to be as comparable of a slick deal as this. i hope it eventually does

Mouchet 02-16-2013 02:19 PM

Amazon told me that the price match has been "officially approved" and once you get connected to large items will be given the new price. I also wanted a 60" and was considering the Samsung PN60E7000/8000 (especially because I'm a Samsung Fan-boy) but couldn't pass this deal up.

Do some googling. Plasma pq beats out lcd and most led. This model is one of their high end ones too. The picture is superb.

well, plasma is 600hz, NOT 60.

also, this TV offers the best picture since the KURO, with a way better feature set and design. this is arguably the best tv of 2012, and for 1500 is a steal.

the Sharp Elite is the only LED panel from 2012 that compares, and it is over twice the price.

I'm not sure if it actually beats the PQ either, they are really close from what I've read.

Plasmas in most cases have better motion handling, black levels, and color. LED/LCDs are usually better in bright rooms because they can get really bright compared to plasmas.

LCDs have various refresh rates because LCD pixels don't react fast enough. Plasmas are always 60hz, don't worry about the subfield rate, ie 600hz, because plasma pixels react fast enough to not leave a smearing effect for motion.

LEDs are LCDs, the only difference is the backlight they use. "LED" TVs use LEDs for backlighting while "LCD" TVs use CCFL. Can you get a nice looking LED/LCD? Sure, but you won't get one that looks as good as the plasma in this thread.

LED/LCD
pros: Can get really bright, uses less power, can be very thin, less prone to burn in (better for gaming).
cons: Can get really expensive (LEDs) compared to comparable plasmas, motion handling, off angle viewing, screen uniformity

Plasma
pros: Better color reproduction, motion, uniformity, off-angle viewing, price
cons: Uses more power, doesn't get as bright, image retention, can burn in if you're careless

Having had a decent LCD for it's day (LN46A650) and currently a good plasma (PN51E7000) I can honestly say the picture quality difference is huge. The plasma blows away my old LCD.

Just got amazon to pricematch this for me. Been waiting for this to hit 1500.

Made the deal a little slicker by buying Amazon giftcards from the drugstore and getting the 5% cashback via my chase credit card.

So 1500 x 0.95 = $1425 which is an awesome price for the VT50

Are you planning on leaving your TV on a static DVD like they did for 8 hours if so then you should get something else. There is no way i would have run a DVD and let it sit on my screen overnight. So while burn-in is something only idiots are able to achieve i guess its always possible to screwup your tv.

My 6 year old plasma has a auto shutoff after 4 hours of inactivity.

Have you ever had any of image retention from use? I'm reading there are some options like Pixel Orbiter to use with this tv while playing a game so it seems like I may need to get use to taking measures to prevent screen damage unlike I did with my LCD.

listen, i have a 2008 panny plasma, and never had any burn in. i'm not that careful with it, never did the burn in slides or anything back in the day, and it still looks great. the only time i had image retention was when the babysitter left baby einstein on for an hour or so, and i still saw that damn logo when the tiv was off. it was gone the next day.
my point is, i dont think you have to worry about burn in. it looks like you've done some reading already, i would bet you never have any issue with burn in. this is a fantastic tv (from what i hear).

lash444 02-16-2013 07:09 PM

This model does have image retention issues. I know, because i bought this last weekend. Supposedly it becomes increasingly harder ot have image retention issues after abotu 200 hours.

I run slides (read about D-nice slides) at night. #1 to age the panel, and #2 to remove images that were retained if there were any from the day previous as I age my panel a bit.

My buddy also has this television. When I ran slides on his panel (hes had his since June) there was a whole host of logos in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Now I don't know if this is "burn in" or just a retained images. I didn't run the slides on his plasma to see if they would completely disappear. On mine, they will after running the slides for a bit.

This is an issue. I can't say whether or not it is permanent. I read that this became more of a concern in the 2011+ models. The ones prior must have had a different manufacturing or build process.

I will say that I love this tv though. After breaking it in a bit, I cleared up some uniformity issues. It is a beautiful display. That said, the image retention is certainly the one thing with this tv that scares me the most.

It Would be so much more convenient for me, and more helpful to the community, if someone who knows the answer could just provide it. I'm stuck on a smart phone right now. Not the best tool for doing research. I've already looked into a bunch of sets regarding lag, but I don't have the stats on the Panasonic plasma's. Not many people have done accurate lag tests, but you'd be surprised that some plasmas are above the 31 ms range which is noticeable to some of us.

There are no <$4000 led/LCDs that can compete with this set. You can buy the panasonic 55UT50 for about $750 that's close to this set. However, the room must be pitch black as the UT series has no anti-glare treatment at all and you WILL see every reflection.

rpeters6720 02-16-2013 08:42 PM

For those wondering whether they should wait for the 2013 pannys I attended CES this year and they had a side by side comparison of the 2012 VT vs their new flagship Z series. Let me tell you, as awesome as this tv is, the comparison was night and day when viewingt the two. The new Z series is pitch black and with demo video had zero discernible artifacts whereas the vt series was dark but not even close to the black level achieved on the new model. Both were calibrated and showing the exact same footage for comparison. So for all you videophiles out there wanting the best, where saving money is not your main concern, definitely hold out for the new one. I was truly amazed, it is going to win every award.

MarkAELSU 02-16-2013 08:43 PM

Burn in is not the same as image retention. I've owned about 4 plasmas the last 6 years. 6 years ago image retention was a problem. But all you had to do was play the white screen wash on the menu and after 10 seconds or so... Bam gone. Literally the only way you'd ever have actual BURN IN is if you put this thing on vivid settings and pressed pause on a PDF document while you went on the carnival triumph

Haha literally, this thing has THX settings. Putting it on that alone probably puts the chance of you encountering any actual BURN IN (not image retention) to 1%.

I wonder how the ZT (and Sharp Elite) compare to the new moth-eye displays available in the Spring from Sharp. They also had it on display at CES. Only Sharp and Philips are the only manufacturers that currently have this moth-eye filters that virtually eliminate reflections. Then again someone will be coming out with "invisible glass" panels from Nippon Electric.

The Z series may very well be the cats meow, but lets not overlook the fact that you have a vendor showing you two "calibrated" tvs.

"Calibrated" could mean anything. What incentive do they have of making the 2012 series showing their best black levels? Exactly.

I don't doubt that the Z series may have a better black level. I also have no doubt that it isn't going to be as big of a jump as Panasonic showed you at CES.

nolf66 02-17-2013 07:18 AM

"At this point you may be wondering whether any amount of exercise with a moving image could serve to cure the GT50's image retention, or whether it actually was permanent. I just don't know, and there's no way to tell without running it for another few hundred hours. My guess is that the image on the GT50 eventually would go away, but since we sent back that original review sample we won't know for sure."

Enough said, would never take a chance on a TV with this known problem. The pictures showing this looked scary!

You both make great points. The next model year TV is almost always going to be better than the current year TV. We won't know how much better until the new one hits the street. But so what? The following year's model will be even better. And of course in the next few years we may see widespread 4K and/or OLED TVs.

The point is, if you're in the market for a TV now, this is a terrific deal. The Panasonic VT50 is regarded in many circles as the "best" TV of 2012 and I am very much looking forward to receiving mine on February 23!

I've bought two so far from Costco, and it went very smooth. Heck I paid $99 bucks plus tax for my 65VT warranty, that was a steal.

What? Not talking about oil or a engine. If you watch a lot of news in the day with the banner at the bottom you could have this problem. Its caused by just watching the TV....

Are you freaking kidding me!!

Kidding? Probably not. The prevailing wisdom of the masses is that plasma TV's are old-tech and LED TV's are "it". Heck, if you stand around listening to TV shoppers at a B&M location, you will learn two additional bits of folk wisdom:

1- Forget plamas, most wouldn't be caught dead with an LCD TV. Those are garbage. You have to get an LED.

2- The reason that plasma sets are cheaper in equivalent sizes to LED sets is that they aren't as good.

soilderboy 02-17-2013 10:40 AM

I bought this plasma TV 3 weeks ago for the big Super Bowl for $1600 at Paul's. They have since then credited $100 back to my account. Great people to work with. As far as the TV goes. I have no burn in issues whatsoever. I used Cnets calibration and in my opinion it made huge improvements over bright room thx preset images. My friends who own LEDs could not believe the quality I get out of plasmas. It is the best bar none. The at will be better its true, your best bet would to be getting this or wait till the same time next year to get a great deal on a at. Or wait a few years and get a 4k. Get the process... There's always going to be the next big thing but this TV has some serious staying power. I'm going to be extremely satisfied and maybe next year get a 65 at and put this 55vt in my bedroom. One things for sure, I'm a Panasonic fan for life.

I have a 2009 model Panasonic plasma set. When the set was new, my mother was living with us. I warned her against watching her beloved QVC because it could burn in the screen but she did it anyway. Hour after hour after hour of QVC for months on end, likely a few hundred hours in total, insterspersed with other programming. It got to the point that with a darkened screen (like, say, TV on but no source powered on) I could actually read the phone number for QVC from the IR.

I was irate and figured I'd just eventually have to write off the set. But... today you can't see anything at all. It was just very persistent IR that did go away. After what period of time? I can't remember, but it was probably a week or so after Mom moved back into her own place that I realized the IR was no longer R'd.

YMMV, of course, but I suspect that you won't get actual burn-in.

I picked up a LG 55" LED 3D 240Hz with 6 glasses (55LM8600) with a 5 year in-home protection plan for $1550 from Pauls TV yesterday. It has some very great reviews.

jerobahn 02-17-2013 11:30 AM

Ordered my TV yesterday, delivered today from pauls. (yes, on sunday...I was shocked too)

letting it warm up from delivery (it's like 15 degrees out and TV was on truck for a couple hours)

can't wait to get this thing all set up.

doe 02-17-2013 12:05 PM

Great deal. I was looking at the 60" GT50 for $1699 at Pauls and the 55" ST50 at my B&M Best Buy for $1199. Both of those are before 9% CA tax.

Decided to go with the VT50 at $1499 flat. Thanks!

opfreak 02-17-2013 12:50 PM

i'm stuck between this, the LG 60LM7200 @ BB for 1600, and the Samsung PN60E7000 plasma.

They are all around the same price, but the Samsung & LG are 5" bigger

well, one is better than the other 2. do you want 5 inches or a better picture?

Ended up having Amazon price match the Paul's TV price for $1,499 without any problems. Very smooth process over the phone with their rep.

I was in the same boat... but since they dropped the VT price and didn't change the GT pricing, wasn't sure those would go down any further.

I'll take the VT, it'll be a huge upgrade from what I'm used to, so I'll be happy!

Thanks OP, I've been watching these plasma's for over a month now. :)

imdashep 02-17-2013 04:47 PM

Debating whether to pull the trigger on the current $1500 deal or not. I want a 55"+ inch TV, don't really need the bells and whistles of the VT, but also want to get money's worth.

Bottom line: is this the best deal I can get before the old models are all gone?

Would love for the STs or GTs to come down comparably

Every TV these days comes with features you'll never use, but these VT series TVs have **STELLAR** picture quality. Read through the thread and the CNET reviews. The GT is still real nice though. I recently helped friends configure both the VT and GT sets and compared to my Pioneer 5070, I was slightly jealous

Anybody why people buy plasmas these days ?.
Is this better than LEDs and is this some special panel ? Just wondering

Yes way better overall PQ compared to LCD/LED LCD, better motion handling, blacks, uniformity. Won't be as bright as LEDs, if that's your thing.

Midol 02-17-2013 05:39 PM

I just finally joined SD after spending a year or so as a guest to thumbs up this deal. I've been considering an ST or VT for a few months, and finally decided to pull this trigger on this deal to replace my 40" Toshiba edge LED as my main TV. I was deciding between the 50" ST and this 55" VT and had to spend the extra 500 for the bigger, better screen. Thanks, OP!

E82N55 02-17-2013 07:43 PM

going to pull the trigger on the 65" vt50. i hope its worth the extra $300 over the GT50.

edit: its done...tv is ordered. $2499 for 65" VT50. damn good deal.

huffmyia 02-17-2013 09:20 PM

Did anyone that ordered through Paul's get an email confirmation? The transaction does show up on my bank account and when I log on to Paul's it shows order in progress, but haven't received an email, ordered 2/16 at 10pm est

You want to make sure and keep your receipt from Pauls, if you want Squaretrade has a number you can fax it to, and they will store it. I have not done that, I just made sure I printed a couple of copies and also created a pdf to store it online.

so ordered from amazon this morning. Went to chat, and was told they only price match regular prices?

When I said others got the pricematch, the chat person said they forwarded the request to large items, but it might take 24hrs for them to review.

Might be too late then. grrr. what to do?

Amazon price matched this over the phone. You need to get transferred to large items as initial customer support will not be able to price match. It also qualified for scheduled and enhanced delivery. http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature....1000347231

Delivery scheduled for Thursday.

I personally have had excellent results with Paul's if you choose to go that route.

I ordered on 2/16 as well , just received shipment confirmation this morning Monday 10:00am CST. "White glove" delivery by Home Direct USA. I've never dealt with Paul's TV before so not sure what to expect regards to delivery and service. They appear to be reputable but keeping fingers cross everything goes OK.

ashtarir 02-18-2013 09:35 AM

I was able to get this TV from Pauls TV for 1499 last Wednesday at their store in Salem NH. This is an awesome TV and you cannot beat the price if you can afford it. $1500 is essentially 1000 dollars off. This price is so low that best buy who was across the street would not price match.

ashtarir 02-18-2013 09:40 AM

The new ZT60 will have a better picture and seems to have better specs but I highly doubt that it would be significantly noticeable and the price for the vt50 is well worth it.

M5Rahul 02-18-2013 09:49 AM

I have the 65" VT30 [ 2011 model ] and love every minute watching it!!

The viewing angles, the blacks, .... overall PQ is just amazing!

ISF Calibration after 200 hrs truly helps enhance the PQ!

I received an order confirmation right away when I ordered on 2/12. Shipment notice came from Paul's on 2/15, and Home Direct USA (shipping co.) just sent me an email today saying they picked it up and will call me in the next few days to set up a delivery date.

If it makes you feel better Home Direct is the same company Amazon uses. But when I had my 65VT delivered they only sent one guy and I had to help him bring the TV in and move it to my living room. This wasn't PaulsTV fault, but anyway when I contacted Pauls about this, they sent me a free $150.00 Panasonic 3d blu ray player because of this.

I have been eyeing the 55'' ST50 for awhile, now they're sold out pretty much everywhere. BB still has it but it's $1299. Now I can buy the flagship VT model for roughly $1000 discount, plus 24 months no interest with amazon...so tempted, but I don't want to spend more than around a grand.

I know if I don't buy soon I'll be waiting til next year for a nice discount on a Panny plasma. It's time to shit or get off the pot! Decision time...

i was in the same boat, i ideally wanted to spend $1800-1900 on a 65" ST50, but they are selling out everywhere. the lowest its been was $2000, that i could find. so i decided to just go ahead and treat myself to the 65" VT50, sure it was more money, but its also a better TV and the savings were actually larger than the savings on an ST50.

i think the VT50 is a damn good deal right now at Pauls in both sizes. in my opinion, if you're in the market for a new tv, i'd buy soon before they are all gone and the new models come in at msrp for a few months. just my two cents.

I ended up calling amazon, and getting the price match approved, but was told the CSR couldn't approve it until the TV shipped.

Should I be worried at all?

I was doing a similar dance, I honestly started out picking out a TV for my father, then admired all the reviews for the lowly U50 and I thought that was a great deal, I want to play ps3 without a headache, so then I finally decided the louvre filter on the st50 was all I needed and I ordered a 50"st50 for just 730 dollars in "like New" condition on warehouse deals. It had never been opened but had a Vizio sticker stuck on it the box, that was its only problem as far as amazon knew, unfortunately after unboxing it it there was a manufacturers defect where the metal back meets the glass, not something that you can have happen from any type of "damage" just assembly fault. Anyway they had raised the prices on the st-50's by a couple hundred bucks in one week, and then they had no "like new" available, so I got a gt50 like new from warehouse deals for 880 but i figured at that price and with the 50" gt-50 on sale for 999 I might as well buy it new and have a manf. Warranty, got it delivered today. I'm just trying to figure out of the "one sheet of glass" design they used again this year including on the st60, does that improve PQ or just brightness or anything or is strictly a aesthetics thing

You can buy Panasonic on amazon for $56 or you can purchase the samsung for $20. I have both and I can't see a difference in picture quality. The panasonic look more like sunglasses and the samsung looks pretty stupid but work well.

Made a SD acct to thank OP (Thanks OP!) for the alert to this deal. My 15yr old Mitsubishi 32" CRT crapped out a few months ago and I've been lurking around waiting for this deal or one on a Sony HX850 or HX950. This came first and I hold little hope Sony's will drop to this price point.

I had Amazon PM to Paul's namely for return reasons. Some reviews of Paul's after sale support pretty much scared me away from them. Haven't read any horror stories or had any dealing with Amazon so I went that route and it cost me, literally. Sales Tax to be exact. About $130 to be more exact! *1st time in over 4 yrs I've been charged one red cent of tax buying from or through Amazon?* And that includes plenty of transactions where items were bought, sold, and shipped from Amazon. Specifically, shipped from a warehouse in Phx and delivered to an address in Phx? I have to assume Amazon has a scheme setup via DBA or something shady like that? Anyway, I was under the impression that tax and shipping was going to be adjusted, along with the price, once I finalized the purchase. I was informed that I was wrong! and would in fact be charged sales tax. Anyone have any peculiar experiences like this with Amazon?

I don't think I'd be so upset if this happened on say... an IP Cam, like the one I bought two weeks ago for under $50. Purchased from seller in NV, but fullfilled by Amazon & shipped free + tax free from whse in downtown Phx to an address in Phx. But for the first over 1K, big ticket item I've bought from them they stick me with sales tax; I gotta tell ya, I'm a little butt hurt over the whole thing! Especially b/c tracking shows the TV left from Indianapolis, IN yesterday. I don't know what to make of it, but I can for sure say that I have sour taste when I say Amazon now.

Any thoughts if I have a snowballs chance of getting this credited back to my account? I haven't tried yet hoping a resident SD'er might have some advice?

TIA and Thanks again to OP!

Amazon has to charge tax based on if they have a warehouse in your state and pay taxes. I lived in kansas but worked in missouri and if i shipped to my home address in kansas i would pay amazon tax. however if i shipped to my work address i didnt have to pay tax. Soon this tax loop will be fixed because of the loss tax revenue.

Soon this tax loop will be fixed because of the loss tax revenue.

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware of the tax "loophole" and get "why" they charge tax. However, I reviewed every transaction over the past 4 years with Amazon and not once was I charged a dime in tax. Either from Amazon.com or Amazon marketplace or warehouse. So as an entity, Amazon.com has billed me and chosen to ship items from a warehouse in AZ to an address in AZ. Logistics, I get it. However, my understanding is that transaction should be charged tax. ie. bought from and delivered to w/i same state.

Now, as far I see it, since this TV is being shipped from IN to AZ, it should fall under the "loophole" and be tax exempt? That's where my beef is! It kinda reminds me of "Chewbacca is a wookiee. Wookiee's do not live on Endor. It does not make sense." -South Park

I'm sure I'll get over it, especially if there is a problem with the unit and an exchange or return is needed. But it's going to make me second guess before making any more purchases through Amazon. Maybe in time I'll learn to forgive.....

For those who missed PaulsTV deal to PM with Amazon. You can do the Gold Box trick on Amazon to get a cheaper price on the TV (or any item for that matter) you are looking to purchase
