Pauls TV is having some Pany TV deals, and the 47" E50 model is getting overlooked and should probably have its own thread. I believe it was front page at this price but with $100 of it being an Amazon promo card. Now it's $550 outright after coupon code SAVE100 brings it down from $649.99. Amazon will also price match if you call. They will stay on the line while you place the order so no need to wait till after it ships to do it.

Link [paulstv.com]

Amazon Link [amazon.com]

Depending upon the state you live in, Pauls might be a better option. They only charge sales tax in the states they have stores in (CA, CO, MI, VA, RI, MA. and NH). I live in PA and have sales tax but have $150 in Amazon points so the tradeoff is worth it.

Seems like it's their best non 3D TV with all the basics except built in wifi. For me it means an inch larger picture in a case that's an inch narrower and 3" shorter than my old 46" Sharp LCD which will replace my 42" Pany plasma in the bedroom. Could care less about 3D.

I don't think it's what they charge, it's whatever it costs you to return it. Cheapest ground/freight shipping possible. You could probably look it up with the shipping weight going to Lexington, KY.

And Pepsi, I actually couldn't care less. Half looked, saw the red, quick post...done. Whatever keeps you happy though.

Usually with Amazon returns, from what ive dealt with, they just deduct an estimated return amount from your refund.

So if anyone who has an order for a tv 40"+ from Amazon, would you kindly start a return process to see? Obviously don't go through with it though.

Heres an example.

ahh...I've always opted to ship things back myself as it has been cheaper. Why not just chat or call them and ask what it would be. I'm sure they know then.

I bought this from Paul's yesterday for $600 and it shipped today. I just called and they are going to have a supervisor refund the difference to me.

you mean the 303 4+ star ratings out of 363?

FYI, saw the deal on gosale.com. Pic attached. says it's valid until the 21st.

BS.

even if you count 3 star as "bad" review on a 1-5 scale:
208 5-star
95 4-star
27 3-star
18 2-star
15 1-star

That's a total of 60 reviews at 3 or lower. The 1, 2, and 3-star ratings combined don't even add up to the 4-star ratings alone, let alone 5-star. In any sort of reasonable context, this hardly has lots of bad reviews. Maybe if you ignore all relevant context, but if you're going to ignore more than half the information why the eff would you care about the reviews in the first place?

audiokingman 02-15-2013 08:09 PM

Glad I got the non-120Hz version of this exact TV for only $429 from Amazon about 6 weeks ago instead of this.

dbpaddler 02-15-2013 08:14 PM

If you want to try and get amazon to match the price on the page, I've submitted the go sale link [gosale.com] that shows the $100 coupon. Maybe that will help get them to adjust the price and save people from calling it in to get it.

Dang, wish the coupon would apply to the ET5 model as well. Sweet price for this, though!

JL6speed 02-15-2013 09:11 PM

I purchased this TV off amazon a couple weeks back with the $100 promo credit - basically it's after credit price now. It's a pretty decent TV. Good colors / viewing angle. I use it as a 4th monitor for my comp however. No issues here and definitely great pricing for those not interested in expensive 3D TVs. Also this isn't a true 120Hz like those expensive monitors. This TV just duplicates/generates frames to smooth out the motion. Also, for those that are using this as a computer monitor, you have to run it on GAME mode or else there is pretty bad mouse / processing lag. Once game mode is enabled, mouse is butter smooth like on regular monitor.

topspin2000 02-15-2013 09:20 PM

Does this coupon work on other TVs at Paul's too?

Yeah my gf purchased it too and it's actually really nice. I'm confused about the refresh rate though I coulda sworn I looked up this tv again like two weeks ago and it was labeled as 60Hz.

I think you're confusing the cinema smoother with the refresh. This is supposed to be a 120hz panel. It wouldn't have been going for $800 plus as a 60hz at this stage of the game. And they usually spell out somewhere that it does. In this cases it has a 360 backlight scanner which is building off of the 120hz panel for a smoother pic.

From the lcd buying guide:
Quote:

360 Back Light Scanning

The E50 series has what Panasonic is calling 360 Backlight Scanning, the panel in the TC-L47E50 is 120Hz and then the LED back lighting is manipulated so the TV appears to have a 360 Hz panel. This is used to eliminate judder in film content and to lessen or eliminate motion blur in fast action scenes on the TV.

24p Cinema Smoother

Panasonic's 24p Cinema Smoother converts 24p content up to the television's native frame rate by adding extra frames into the content. 24p content can appear jerky on some televisions because the 24 frames per second of film does not divide even into the 60 frames per second of the television. The 24p Cinema Smoother cuts down on jerkiness in film content.

Satechi [amazon.com] just came out with a pretty slick device. It does a little bit of everything. It can be a wireless repeater, bridge, access point. Seems pretty slick. I haven't plunked down for it, but I plan to. Thought it would pair well with some Yamaha receivers.

For me, it's LCD not LED. It's quite a bit thicker. The screen is almost an inch smaller yet the overall footprint is larger, more so in height which kills my application over the place, and the reason I didn't go with a 50". And I would need to spend more money on a toslink adapter because the audio out is coaxial. Not something I want as the cornerstone of my living room setup.

If it were for a bedroom or some other secondary room, shore house or what not, that would be a different story.

This is their low price guarantee number: The price is valide at Pauls for a few more days. So just call back. Also, if enough people report the lower price through the link on the product page, they just might adjust the price down in general.
Phone: 866-423-5355
Monday-Friday: 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. PST
Saturday & Sunday: 8 a.m.-3 p.m. PST

And it largely depends on sales tax for many where you order. I ordered from Pauls because I have no sales tax with them. But Amazon would allow me to use my points which could save me an extra $150. Plus it's more points on the Amazon visa. So I'm also waiting for a card payment to hit so I can purchase through Amazon. I'll end up getting the tv for about $420. A worthwhile use of the points. Plus it's Prime so I'll have it in two days over standard freight. Pauls is reputable to the point it's one of the sites Amazon will match. Amazon is easier for returns too if need be.

Dicka24 02-16-2013 07:55 AM

This TV is "WiFi Ready" and it states the wireless adaptor is sold separately. Can you use any wireless adaptor, or does it require a specific one by Panasonic? If it's the latter, what does the adaptor cost?

danithomp24 02-16-2013 08:35 AM

Anyone else get shot down by Amazon? They said it was a no-go for two reasons 1. It's a limited time sale (President's Day) and 2. On the Preseident's Day sale page it shows as clearance. She would not budge. So I guess it's a huge YMMV with Amazon - I am ordering from Paul's.

Derek_KSU 02-16-2013 09:16 AM

I've spoken to 3 different people @ Amazon and each had a different story.

The first call was disconnected for no reason and she was willing to match the price. I called back and the guy I spoke to was clearly unwilling to help from the beginning. He said they wouldn't price match the discount code. I asked why the previous person was willing to and he basically called me a liar. I asked to speak to somebody else and he said "There is nobody else. I am the only one working today". That call ended right after. Really???

So I called back and got a third person on the phone and she wasn't able to price match either even though the first person I spoke to was willing to.

I thought Amazon customer service was better than this.

If your the adventurous sort, Cowboom has a refurbed Panny built in Wifi BluRay player for $36.

http://dealnews.com/Refurbished-P...70092.html

Should pair nicely with this TV.

Derek_KSU 02-16-2013 10:13 AM

So I just got a call back from an Amazon 'supervisor'. Told me they wouldn't price match AND that they had NO record of my first call when they agreed to do it. They only had a record of the other calls. How convenient. Amazon has now lost my business.

dbpaddler 02-16-2013 10:52 AM

Think everyone should use their submit lower price link and send in the go sale link I posted that shows the $100 off coupon and 549 price. Get them to match the pricenoutright instead of calling it in.

As soon as my payment clears on the card I'll call back and see if they'll honor my call and the notes on my account.

I also posted the new satechi wireless adapter that should work because it acts as an access point as well as a repeater. I plan on using it to make some yamaha receivers wireless as well as a blu ray player. Just search on amazon for "satechi router". It's $40.

chocamo 02-16-2013 11:08 AM

I ordered on Thursday morning from Paul's TV for $600. It shipped UPS ground from Mass. on Friday and I will have it in Orlando on Wednesday. I called last night about the $50 price difference which they confirmed and said they would refund me the difference. I have Amazon Prime and always prefer to order from them but so far no complains on Paul's TV.

I don't care about 3d, so why spend the extra money for pretty much the same tv with features I don't need?

Besides, there is a thread for that tv. Search is your friend. There are threads for the various different pany sets in regards to the paul's promo.

Cnet Review, not real encouraging:

The good: The Panasonic E50 is an attractive LCD TV that offers a solid amount of features, including Smart TV, for the price. Picture quality is better than that of the much more expensive Panasonic DT50.

The bad: That said, picture quality isn't the best, with rival LCDs and plasmas providing better performance for the money. Colors are a little off and a lack of deep blacks and comprehensive shadow detail lets the set down. Uniformity is an issue with large splodges in black areas of the picture. The TV built-in lacks wireless connectivity.

The bottom line: The Panasonic E50 is a budget TV with a smattering of features but little to recommend in the way of picture quality.

Red55 02-16-2013 01:00 PM

Yep, one of the reviews I read, then I ordered it. Too many positive reviews from buyers that negate any thing "Cnet" has to say. Love Panny products and it fits what I need for the price I'm willing to spend.

I wouldn't trust CNET reviews. I have had too many bad products for which they gave excellent ratings, and too many awesome products that they ripped apart. Your best bet is to see it in person and read user reviews. Personally, a TV is something that I generally do no not buy on-line.

Average consumers are generally looking for different things than professional reviewers. You can see how CNET tests TVs here [cnet.com]. Obviously the TVs are put through rigorous tests so I wouldn't completely ignore their professional opinion. It also depends on how important picture quality is to you. The average person probably thinks all TVs produce a good enough picture.

It was already mentioned in this thread, check posting #34 here.

If anyone is interested, amazon price matched the 55 inch for me. 799.99 total shipped, same as Paul's tv

I was turned down for the 799.99 price...by more than one person. Can you post a screenshot of your order or something showing the price?

Can you oh-so-smart-people tell me how the Panny compares to the LG 47LM4600 47" overall in terms of picture quality, angle viewing, reflection and whatever other important things you can think of (LG at Fry's for $569)? I need a 47"+ TV for my kitchen/family room.

How many people on Slickdeals do you think actually has this exact model of Panasonic tv AND this exact model of LG tv side by side in their home to actually make an accurate comparison?:shake:

The Panasonic has an IPS panel. If the LG does not then that would be enough to convince me to go with the Panasonic. For $570 I would doubt it but I couldn't find anything saying one way or the other doing a quick search on the LG.

I had that LG a few months ago. Picture was good for the price($450+tax in November at Frys). But wasn't as good as the 42" E50 that I had. I sold the 42" E50 because I wanted bigger TV. But after going through 3 TVs; the ET5, the LM4600, and the Vizio LED, none could match the picture on the E50. Now I am back with this 47" E50 and I am keeping this one for sure.

Between the E50 and the LM4600, if you dont need 3D definitely go with the E50. How much 3D content do you plan on watching? I can promised you that this 3D gimmick gets old fast. I watched one movie in 3D and that was it for me.

dbpaddler 02-16-2013 09:12 PM

to add, I couldn't find any site including LG's that said it had an IPS panel, so for the wide viewing area maria probably has in the combo kitchen/family room, the benefits of the IPS panel would probably outweigh the need for 3D content. If 3D is a need, just drop the extra coin and get the 3d version of the E50, the ET5.

And again...Wireless adapter. Can be a wireless repeater or access point. [amazon.com] Seems pretty slick for $40.

And good cheap tilting wall mount. [amazon.com] Great reviews on Amazon and only 1.3" from the wall, so it's as flush as possible.

For starters LG 47LM4600 is not a true 120hz it has a 60hz panel. What LG does on this model is a smoothing method that is nothing remotely close to actual 120Hz frame rate according to the test performed. (see link below) I was going to pull the trigger on the Fry's deal two weeks ago until I read this and did a little more research on it. I wasn't to concerned about the 3D. I would take a better picture quality 2D over a television that has 3D which is exactly why I ordered this model.

I called the Monrovia store about picking this up in store. The sales guy said they'd add $50 on top of the price if I wanted to pick it up today for "expedited shipping." I told the guy that no other store does this and I'd take my business elsewhere. This is when he said he'd talk to his manager and he eventually said he'd allow the price as listed on the website. Just an FYI to people who want to pick this up in store.

Can someone please tell me what is the price for this model in 55 inches?

On the screen (@Pauls site) for the 47" it shows this-

"Additional Options:

Get Built-in Wi-Fi, 3D with 4 Pairs of Glasses, and Web Browser for only ($150.00) more
Upgrade to the 55-inch for only $0.00 more "

Of course you would have to add it to your cart to see if promo code works for 55" as well or you can call and ask them to match what the screen says.

lucha94 02-17-2013 07:52 AM

Is $800 a pretty good deal for 55 inch of this same model?

I've read the speakers are bad on these TVs and am looking for something to supplement. Anyone have any experience with this sound bar? Seems like a good price compared.

I keep getting $849 at Pauls before I apply the Save100 promo which only brings it down to $749. Is the deal dead?

Pauls TV is having some Pany TV deals, and the 47" E50 model is getting overlooked and should probably have its own thread. I believe it was front page at this price but with $100 of it being an Amazon promo card. Now it's $550 outright after coupon code SAVE100 brings it down from $649.99. Amazon will also price match if you call. They will stay on the line while you place the order so no need to wait till after it ships to do it.

Yes. VIERA Connect is their term for their smart apps. You do need a wireless adapter if you're not doing the ethernet connection.

Deepo11 02-17-2013 09:19 PM

If I hook this up to a router with eithernet cable, is there any benefit is getting a Blu Ray player that has built in wifi? Essentially would this have all the features from streaming stand point as blu ray player with wifi?

No benefit. You'll probably see a benefit with the wired connection with smoother streaming.

Red55 02-18-2013 02:02 AM

My brother went wireless and laugh at me, cause I ran wire. When he saw how much faster wired connections were, he stopped laughing. And then he wired his house.

Also ran into issues with my new laptop getting kicked off the network. Too much traffic (wireless). Set my router to a channel my neighbors weren't using and no more issues with the laptop.

The benefit would be that a separate media player (either built in to a Blu-Ray or separate device) would probably have more options/features/channels than the one built into TV's.

Yes. It has ethernet. Mentioned a Satechi wierless adapter a few times in the thread if you want to go that route. I might run another ethernet cable to the basement. Haven't decided yet. Mine is already up above my fireplace now. Night and day over my 1080i Sharp LCD which is now in my bedroom. I hope I can sell my 720p Pany plasma for $200-250.

If you search the AV forums, they usually recommend that you don't use others settings. That in most cases the factory settings are best, because each set is a little different and adjusted to that particular set. Search for you but didn't find anything.

Wow! Got my set tonight and was excited. Been looking for a TV since September and this model fit the bill, at a pricing level I could afford. Bad news. The box looked like it was dragged behind the truck. Now I working with Pauls on a return.

Question is should I just get a refund or should I try again? Not confident in the major carrier they're using. My staple paper towels came pristine, yet something that should have been handled with care, looks like it was thrown several times. And not by the delivering driver. He didn't wait for a signature (not surprised when I saw the box)

littledevil 02-23-2013 07:43 AM

In same boat. Take the day off just to wait for the tv. Ups guy just carried the box by himself, not team lift like the sticker on the box suggests. I guess two guys is too much to ask for, so I didnot raise an issue. After the guy is gone, I noticed the top back part of the box is torn open, that to me is 2 box cutter cuts. The bottom tape is open on one end, had the other end not hold up, the tv could easily just drop from the box. I noticed the bottom tape after I sent out a complaint email to amazon, which price matched Paul's price for me. The tv seem to be working okay, despite the damaged box. Hope I didnot speak too soon.

Amazon said they will give me a 15% refund if I keep the tv. I am leaning towards keeping it because I don't have the truck to pick up a tv at local store and will probably need to order online again if I return this one. Who is to say the next box is not going to be just as bad or even worse.

Do u agree?

i am watching this TV in Game mode. any suggestions?

ixnu 03-05-2013 04:40 PM

Another return here. They should be called Downs because mine also had to go back to Pauls. They are shipping out a new one after I returned mine. It had two large dents over 10 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch deep. There were also several smaller dents and the screen was warped from the stress. Three of the styrofoam corners had failed. It must have been dropped over 6 feet!

ixnu 03-12-2013 05:48 AM

Update:

I reported the damage to Paul's and they sent a new one. This one arrived without damage and I love the picture. Paul's was professional and responsive with the return and they treated me right.
