Really nice price, hows the android development for this particular device?

This only has just the front facing camera? Does that mean more like a webcam so you can't really take pictures with it or video tape someone? Thanks

Yes, front facing means - facing the user.

Honestly, I see people using their tablets to take pictures and I think they are idiots. I hope you aren't seriously trying to take memories with a crappy tablet camera?

Tegra 4 are delayed to July and tegra 4 tablets likely in Aug./Sept. It a long wait. This device seems ok,but it seems acer don't update much.

I thought this was a decent deal until it said "Refurb". That makes it "meh".

Going to give this a try. Have tried many tablets, but no 10" with a quad core yet. Curious how this one is. Can always take it back to Walmart for a full refund.

topeak 02-17-2013 01:37 AM

thiefraccoon 02-17-2013 03:01 AM

I was debating whether to get this while it was $250 refurbished (quickly went down to $240) on acer's ebay.
This seems like a solid deal! TU

I wouldn't necessarily say that, N7 got 4.2.2 on the 12th... It's nearly perfect, seriously... But this looks like a great price on a 10" and you could as always root and install a custom ROM.

the back cam is very important when you want to show your firend/your parents something or your baby during video chat.
when the baby is moving around, it's much easier to follow them with the back cam.

I think the frames/sec will pretty much be useless with tablet cameras if your intention is to follow running kids

A refurb of the worst Tegra 3 tablet for $199 is not a slick deal. This tablet is clunky, has very bad battery life and mediocre screen compared to other Android tabs.

Looked at some reviews, looks too bulky. I would rather get something else. I own an ipad 3 and used to own a nexus 7 and I still think the Ipad is the best tablet in it's class. I am not an apple fanboy as I have many products in different enviroment eg: Windows, Mac, and android. I would wait for something else, or just simply buy the nexus 7 at this price range.

I believe the drawback is you will only have 8GB for the OS and apps. Just something to consider.

Whoever buy Acer product make sure that you save original receipt. They won't honor warranty like Fuji, Dell, Apple,Lenovo and Toshiba if you didn't have receipt.

The 8GB Iconia Tab A Series A110-07g08u 7" Tablet from Acer is an ultra-portable tablet equipped with a high-definition 10.1" WSVGA color LCD display has a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 1024 x 600 native resolution.

Not even close. IPS screen on N7, plus outstanding battery life and automatic OS updates. No rooting ever needed to stay current. Gaming is much better on N7 than full size iPad (we have both) - much easier to hold. Lighter.

If you have to have a larger screen, spend a little more and look into the Nook HD 9"when there are some discounts. Much better screen.

this is a great price, no, it is not an Asus TF700 or Nexus 10, both the top Android tablets, but then people do not always want the best, just something that works. If people always wanted the best there would be not GM or Ford products on the road. Works for many people just fine.

buzz86us 02-17-2013 09:46 AM

Your talking about the hp touchpad?

Get this acer, if you don't like the lcd on it returning it is easy at walmart. Some other good tabs with nicer ips lcd are the 199.99 asus nexus 7 and used 269.99 tf300.

geniv 02-17-2013 10:05 AM

this is a good deal for a 10" Tegra 3 tablet.
1) full usb port
2) its not IPS screen but the engadget said viewing angle is good.
3) sold by walmart.
4) shipping is only $2.97 so it's not even worth it to drive for pickup.
5) I got the oriiginal A500 and it's a rock solid tablet (had it upgraded to ICS)

if I didn't already have a a500 I would get this one.

If it's any indication. I got a two refurbished garmen gps from them last year. (shipping was only $1.95):
- came in white box with all the accessories inside
- units looks near new
- I returned one at the store and it was a HASSLE FREE return. I didn't even get advance RMA. I just too it to the store/customer service and brought my reciept along.

$125 Used Touchpad is a good deal. You can probably replace the battery with the money saved.
You won't see much deals on dual core tablets for under $180 like the TF101 and S2109.

For a cheaper kids tablets, you can find $80 7 inch Nook tablets and Kindle Fire in this site.

Thanks OP, in 4 1 (for all those Humble Bumble games and other uses too of course). Was looking at the highly regarded Nexus 7 but already have a 4.65" phone so just felt it was going to be too small. Plus it's no risk due to returnability but I don't see it going back unless there is an issue.

Just a comment on 7" vs 10" (serious)..

The 7" tablets are great for carrying around and doing some quick browsing, etc. If you're thinking of reading anything more serious than a "paper back book" or relatively empty web page, then the 10" is much better. Add color or the need to understand what you're looking at and it's no contest IMO.

I don't own a 10", but have used them side by side with my 7" Samsung and there's just no comparison; the 7" tablets are just insufficient for the task. When the budget allows, I'll buy a 10" tablet and would jump on this for the price.

Nah85 02-18-2013 12:25 PM

for only like 20 bucks more a new Lenovo a2109 seems better which would have additional features compared to this.

Looks like a great alternative to the Nexus 7 if you would rather have the 10 inch screen.

Personally the 7 inch screen better fits my needs, however the Tegra 3 in it (both the nexus 7 and this tablet) has handled everything I have thrown at it.

Went to Staples this evening to buy a Nexus 7. Their display was broken, so I decided to play around on the Samsung next to it. Checked SD one last time, noticed this deal. Given Walmart's ease of returning things and the same price point for a bigger screen, full USB port, and upgradeable storage space, I'll take the chance on the refurb.

Thanks OP, rep'd.

ON The Refurbished note: my 2 cents :
bought and ipad 2 referbished, worked graet until "iOs6 update" then bam , would not charge properly, then apple voided warranty - because of a small scuff, smaller than a grain of rice.

i will buy more refurbished products, BUT NEVER WILL I BUY NEW OR USED APPLE PRODUCT - EVER EVER EVER EVER EVEVEVEER!!!

SO UP YOUR APPLE!!!

According to the answer here from "Team Acer", no Gorilla Glass:
http://reviews.bestbuy.com/answer...stions.htm

"No, it does not. It does however use a strengthened soda lime glass similar to Gorilla Glass."

(Mmmmm, "soda lime glass" sounds refreshing.)

Just got the tablet, it's in a brown box and similar to the dell refurbished laptop packaging. Mines has some dark / faded / worned marks around the speakers. The front is like new but you can tell someone opened the case before when carefully looking at bezel.

Quick comparison to my Asus TF101:

Pros:
Faster! Web browsing is night and day difference

Cons:
Screen color looks washed or dull
A little thicker and heavier
feels warmer in the back
Only 4 language selection (English, Espanol, Francais, & Portugues)

No kidding, +$20 including the recycling fee.

Which is why I never buy anything that requires CA tax and a recycling fee. Its just too much overhead.

1 Attachment(s)
I picked mine up yesterday from the "ship to store" option. Attached is a picture of how it came.

After using it for about half a day, there is a lot I am impressed with. I have owned multiple tablets: iPad 1, TouchPad, PlayBook, Nexus 7, and iPad 3. I have a hard time finding much info online about the a210, except for a few non-U.S. outlets and lots of good user reviews from various retailers. But I feel confident about WalMart's return policy (15 days) if I change my mind.

The hardware build quality seems better than I expected, kind of on-par with the Nexus 7. The back is rubberized, but doesn't feel too cheap. I am concerned with the way the glass is glued on the front; seems to be raised a bit on the bottom (similar to early Nexus 7 screen separation problems) but I need to look at it more closely. It doesn't feel to heavy or thick for me, but those traits have never been most important to me.

I love Android 4+, and this unit is no exception. It immediately had an OTA update to 4.1.1. There doesn't seem to be much lag; the 4-core Tegra processor is great. And the Acer skin is satisfactory with their Acer Ring thingy for quick selecting.

When I was using it last night, the WiFi seemed weak when it normally is not with other devices. I need to monitor this more closely to see if it's a problem for me. Maybe I was downloading a bunch of stuff and it was just being sluggish because of that. Or maybe the radio isn't very good inside for reception. It's a concern for me.

I like the screen size, but the screen itself is somewhat dim and less pixel per inch than what I would like. I'm not sure if this will be a problem for me, but I noticed it.

All in all, I like a lot, but also have questions about a lot.

Pros:
Screen size
Solid build quality*
Good OS interface

Cons:
*Screen separation?
Display is somewhat dim
Unsure about WiFi radio power

You could always pick up one from Acer's refurb store on eBay.

Acer A210 [ebay.com]

live2cd 02-23-2013 04:58 PM

Just received mine today. Actually posting this from said tablet. Mine came in an Acer branded brown box with the AC adapter and a USB to micro USB cable, along with the warranty card information.

I'm very pleased so far. Very responsive, downloaded ota update right away and very quickly. This is my first tablet and so far it's exceeded my expectations.

Ditto. Same comments here but I will add a few. The Charger is not thru micro USB but its own connector (round pin type..old school), it is a 1.5A @ 12v.

For some reason my battery does not charge past 80% which I am tempted to call the warranty. (90 day from a company called liquidation. The manufacture warranty through Acers site shows no good.

The screen is very shiny/reflective so it can be had to read sometimes.

Do you guys have the same results?

Hybrid_Theory 02-26-2013 09:27 PM

so tempting...

pervin_1 02-26-2013 09:34 PM

I checked Acer ebay site and Walmart:
Walmart description says GPS enableb
Ebay Acer Store description says GPS: Not available

Anyone who owns this tablet can you confirm gps availability on this tablet?

Can't comment on the battery issue, mine charged up to 100% right off. The screen is a bit shiny, haven't had a chance to use it outside in the sun to see how noticeable it is.
The USB port is a nice feature however it is a bit of a bummer it won't charge through USB or at least provide a pass-through charge for other things.

Trying to find a half decent app for accessing and streaming from smb shares.
Had no issues picking up my SD card.

Mines does have GPS. Takes a little longer than my phones GPS to turn on and aquire signal. So far Google Navigation does not go into night mode. So its hard to read when there is Sun and a bit bright at night.

I'm seriously SOOOOOO pissed right now. Here I am with about 270 firefox tabs open and I'm clicking on each tab I haven't used in the past couple of weeks then all of a sudden I see this thread and I'm thinking: "Hmmmm, didn't I purchase like 4 of these tablets". I had totally forgotten that I bought these (I buy way too many things). I start going through my emails, and NOPE, no confirmation that this item has arrived at my local store for the past couple of days. What the hell, does Walmart not tell you when your item has arrived?

I'm going to pickup my tablets right after I punt a midget.

They claim thy text you to. I ordered a TV site to store last March and the same thing happened to me. My TV set there for 4 days.

chunky649 02-28-2013 07:58 AM

1 data point:

I ordered the same day as the deal was known (Feb 17). I also signed up for the text-message notification. After payment online, I received a text almost immediately stating that my order went through, and they will text me when the order is ready for pick up. Several hours later (or maybe it was a day later), I received an email confirmation.

Several days later (Feb 22), I received an email stating my order was ready for pickup. I did not receive any text messages...

I picked it up a few days ago and played with it. Its heavy, isn't as solid as my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7, but snappier. Battery was at least 50% when I started it up and updated it. It charged quickly to 100% within a few hours. The unit looks perfectly new. Not a scratch or anything.

The GPS is working.

The unit came in a plain brown box with the ACER logo on it and a white label stating model number, etc. The unit comes with no instructions and 2 cables - charge and micro-usb (for data).

Note that the return policy stated to me at pick-up is 15 days! (Not the 90 days someone else mentioned). This may be a different rule for refurbs? Not sure. I will continue to test my unit out with the software I want to use (mainly watching videos and interfacing with my DSLR). If I'm not happy with it, I'll return it next week.

I returned mine. I really liked some things about the tablet, like the processor speed and screen size. But the screen was too dim and colors kind of washed out. And the battery was only so-so.

FBMrider86 03-02-2013 07:24 PM

Got my case yesterday (says it's made for the A200, obviously not a problem with the A210) from Amazon. Combined with the wireless Logitech keyboard w/ trackpad I bought from Staples a few months back for $15, I actually said out loud 'what is the point of having a laptop?'
