Grabbed a couple of these with a USB receiver via amazon for an Ubuntu emulator setup. Stoked!

felixfinn 02-18-2013 01:03 AM

The price seems acceptable. My old controller controls bad, I think the connection is out of order.

Ballislife 02-18-2013 06:07 AM

Super...in 4 2

Darknyt 02-18-2013 06:12 AM

Looking for a deal on one of these to use with windows 7. Got a couple games that just really need it.

Ideas?

teaberry 02-18-2013 06:24 AM

Not sure about ideas, but I've used wired and wireless on PC and xbox360 controllers are the best for that IMO, especially since a lot of newer games natively supports it. You can even use an xbox headset for chat in game.
Wired USB you dont need anything else, but wireless you'll need a usb receiver. There are bundles sometimes but otherwise receiver is about $15 I think. Don't get a 3rd party unless you want headache, stick with OEM.

Using 3rd party and no headache here. Native drivers work fine.

sdresidue 02-18-2013 07:09 AM

Also using 3rd party wireless receiver with no problems. The drivers that come with them sometimes don't work but you can manually enter the correct driver which comes with windows 7. Just select "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349" from the drivers for the device in device manager.

Which 3rd party receiver(s) are you guys using? Thanks.

Coming up $7 shipping for me, does everyone else just already have inner circle or something?

Jeremers 02-18-2013 09:21 AM

Looks like they upped their shipping to $7.29 for 1 controller... I chose 99 cents economy shipping in the drop down, but at checkout it put in $7.29.

Ends up being a better deal going through Amazon - $32.60 w/ FSSS > http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wi...B003ZSP0WW

captobvious 02-18-2013 09:35 AM

Rang up with $0.99 shipping for me, so dunno what's going on there. May also combine with 5% Discover CB? Used the link to be on the safe side here.

Jeremers 02-18-2013 10:14 AM

Appears it was reading my home address as a business address. Changed the address to something different and the shipping amount changed to the lower price.

irule9000 02-18-2013 10:55 AM

fyi, was looking at this at 1210 this morning. It showed as 35 and 0% off. Needless to say i was amused

You need to select Econo shipping and have a residential address written on one line only.

Michael-M 02-18-2013 12:18 PM

Shipping prices look jacked. 7.29 now. Going through amazon isn't an option anymore as it's jacked to $35.

Dangit. Not fast enough!

I have my address down on one line, unless you mean zip & state too...

Fat_Fielder 02-18-2013 12:29 PM

Still shows 99ยข for economy shipping

Audrin 02-18-2013 12:29 PM

Ahaha, my stupid autofill was putting in "Me, Myself & I" under company lol. might want to edit post to say "do not enter a company" (even though it says do not enter if a residence i now see)

wjherman 02-18-2013 12:29 PM

This is a deal? I sold brand new ones 3 years ago for $25

Audrin 02-18-2013 12:30 PM

Econo still reads as $.99 and with tax I'm getting $33.15 total, still a decent deal but before I pull the trigger, anything else I could be doing wrong? I'm shipping to Fl if that's relevant on the tax/shipping issues.

If you live in an apartment, you need to include that # on the first line. The second line must be left blank.

Look at the post above yours. It still works because I just got one. I had to change apartment to the same line as the address and econo popped up.

No tax in California too!

Yeah I don't, the issue was I had a company name put in, econo shipping shows up now, still $.99 though, my total is $33.15 with shipping & tax, am I doing something else wrong?

NoBantheSnowman 02-18-2013 12:32 PM

$28.88 at sams club w/ free pickup + tax

http://www.samsclub.com/sams/micr...ction=push

No, they don't tax in every state, but I believe Florida is one of the states that gets taxed either way.

mcflyinca 02-18-2013 12:52 PM

Thanks OP, in for 2. $61.96 shipped.

in reality I think all wireless receivers are 3rd party unless you get a controller with it. I don't think microsoft officially sells them without the controller. Regardless, I think I got this one from meritline:
http://www.meritline.com/wireless...74950.aspx

I got it several years ago, so I can't remember if this is the one, but it looks the same

quick edit: I just checked my order history and that is indeed the correct one. I've had no problems with it in the couple years I've had it.

Only if they have an office in the state generally. I still don't pay amazon tax.

Anothercell 02-18-2013 02:59 PM

I got mine 2 weeks ago from Buy.com for a couple dollars cheaper :D so no need for another one. Thanks anyways!

motaku96 02-18-2013 03:25 PM

I want a 360 controller for my pc, but if I need to get a receiver and this thing needs batteries, I think Ill wait for a wired controller deal.

SublimeB 02-18-2013 03:31 PM

Awesome, been looking for these since my current two are all but dead. Thanks!

jordoc 02-18-2013 06:03 PM

Done. Thanks OP!!

If you can find a charge 'n play cable/kit (what charges a battery pack while it's still in a controller), you can attach it to a wireless controller for now, and plug the cable into the PC. Just leave the 2 AA's out of the battery compartment and snap it in place. Done deal, and if you want to go wireless in the future, you've already got the wireless controller.

Thunderpants 02-18-2013 08:43 PM

Did Microsoft ever fix the wireless receiver for these? They used to blow a transistor in them because the USB port would overload it making it into a paperweight.

First I've heard of this. I've been using two of them on two PCs, one for 5 years the other for 2 years, with no problems.

The wireless controller needs a USB receiver for PC, and uses batteries because it's wireless.

You can buy the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows which comes with the usb receiver for $45: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-X...B004QRKWKQ

I think the wireless is well worth it when you have an Xbox 360 as well (you just need to re-sync them to swap back and forth), or multiple PCs (easy to sync them to whichever you want to use), or want to have multiple controllers connected to the same PC (easier to sync 2-4 wireless controllers than having to deal with plugging in cables and having enough usb ports open).

Oh, fair enough. I don't know if they fixed it, or if it's like the Xbox red ring of death where it's a widespread issue that still only effects a minority of users. I've had two from '08 and '10 plugged in and running 24/7 for 4 and 2 years respectively with no problem.
