Nope. You're gonna need a receiver, speaker wire, and banana plugs for convenient connections.

thorag 02-18-2013 11:35 PM

quick question before price changes: do you guys think these speakers are at least as good as the ones which come with onkyos 7409 htib?
http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-HT-S7...onkyo+7409

i like the form factor of these more and would go for a onkyo 609 with these instead of the 7409.

edit: i am also open for suggestions for other receivers which would let me stay close to 300 bucks total.

It sucks you just missed the Yamaha RX-V373 for $177. Keep your eyes open and it will drop back to the $188 Range. That's a solid plain Jane 5.1. Paired with these speakers it would make a really good low cost setup. It's actually what I'm running in my game room. If you want networking onkyo is running some good deals now.

The 373 is still available for 177 at frys. I just that you, at least on paper, get so much receiver with the 609, including the networking you mentioned which i kinda want. but than there are all the hdmi issues which seem scary. I just can't decide.

But you're are agreeing these speakers are all-right for a normal room and a normal, non audiophile person?

I was in the same boat as you and went with the Yamaha 373. The low end onkyo just have too many issues, the hdmi being the biggest. The Yamaha is the best bang for the buck. It is headache free. These speakers are great in my game room. It's an 18x22 size room and it fills it with nice clean sound. The sub does the job, I run it at 50%. The nice thing is when running these speakers with the 373 the self audio calibration does its job perfectly.

So happy to find this deal. I'll share it with my friends.

thorag 02-19-2013 12:14 AM

Thanks for your input. Ill guess ill order the speakers and try to grab the RX-V671BL that my best buy has as an open box for 210. If not ill get the 373 from frys.

vnod007 02-19-2013 12:52 AM

Frys has it for same price http://www.frys.com/product/6156079

joshownsyouall 02-19-2013 12:53 AM

There's a vsx-522-k and a vsx-51 open box at my local best buy 168. Should I bite? I want that vsx-51 but some of the amazon reviews are absolutely horrifying

smyrnasurfin 02-19-2013 02:45 AM

I have a small room and both the Amazon reviews and Newegg review are great. I don't like the spring type clips for the speaker wire but for 88 I am not complaining. I have had these on my wish list for a few months and have been waiting for the price to drop back down. Thanks OP!!

It is stil $177 at Newegg [newegg.com].

SuperTroller 02-19-2013 04:14 AM

You can't beat these for this price, I recommend them to anyone looking for a super cheap 5.1 setup for a small room.

SchniffSchniff 02-19-2013 04:24 AM

Wow. I was just looking at the customer pics and came back to buy and it's gone up to $119. Ugh.

They pulled the same stunt yesterday with the Onkyo NR509 receiver. It went from $148 to $260 in a matter of minutes. I wonder if this is a new sales tactic given BB's internet price matching policy allegedly coming in March.

Eaglescout 02-19-2013 07:47 AM

I have this set in my very large basement. It won't knock your socks off but its a great starter 5.1 set if you're looking to just get your feet wet.

NamelessKiller 02-19-2013 09:10 AM

Is the deal dead? It's showing $119 on Amazon.

playgamespool 02-20-2013 10:10 AM
