BF2 is still a solid game, still a solid population. Still populated mods too, Forgotten hope 2 is an awesome WW2 mod, Project reality is still regularly populated as well. Well worth the $5 if you don't have it.

Awesome. thanks for clearing that up. Yeah i have BF2 also but dont play it anymore since i have BF3. It was an excellent game though, spent many many hours unlocking weapons and gaining rank.

I miss the commander system from BF2... although I've heard a lot of people hated it. I dunno why? I was a great commander, spent the whole round on the command screen and only did UAVs, resupply/vehicle drops and artillery strikes when my squad leaders called for it. They would then (generally) follow my orders on points to hold.

So sad they removed that from 3!

I would never buy it from Origin though. You can get a CD version with the manuals and everything for ~$8. Much better deal imo.

I don't think it's a problem of losing or having trouble gaining people, I think it's a way to let people try new games they may have not played. I picked up Crysis 2 recently on a sale....just because it's old doesn't mean I won't try it. Everyone has their own opinion, but I've been a huge fan of the BF series and play some of the older ones when I have the urge.

Perfect example: Rome Total War, released in 2004. It's my favorite RTS of all time, and it still pulls new players in to this day. The release of RTW2 later this year will be an epic event people have waited years for.

Can't comment on getting the premium edition as I'm pondering whether or not to get it. But BF3 has to be played online. Even to launch the game you have to use their stupid online interface. I haven't heard of or tried to do any offline playing so perhaps it would work but I doubt it.

So, I don't really care to play this game online. I just wanted to play the campaign. I'm new to all this pay as you go type games since I only deal with steam. Do I buy just the original game for 9.99 or do I buy the expansion packs to get the full game play?

Is the Vietnam expansion pack worth $5? I ask because sometimes I find the expansion packs for games don't really add a whole lot (and also seem a bit disjointed compared to the original release).

I think its a pretty good expansion and i paid about 10 few months ago. Definitely worth 5 bucks. I got a better value out of the expansion then i did out of bf3 for $15.

Agreed. Typical EA. I loved BF2 and played BF3 for a few months. But did not care for the perk system or the buggy nature of the Origin client.

EA really shot themselves in the foot when they left steam. Like they said on South Park, in order for society to thrive we need gods and clods. Guess which one EA Origin is...

You just need the base game. They have not made any changes to the single player game since it came out, other than bug fixes.

Premium only applies to the multiplayer.

Be warned, the single player is not long at all.

Yes, you can play the single player campaign in offline mode. You just have to switch Orgin to offline mode before lauching battlefield 3.

You might be good, but bad commander ruin things.

I got one trying to kill me because I try tell him where to launch airstrikes, he seems doesn't want suggestions. I ended up throwing him a grenade to kill him and left the game.

Fair warning - BF3 online is full of hackers. Just youtube BF3 multiplayer on pc it to find out. There's still a good amount of legit players but the hackers ruin the game.

Just as long as any other 5 star shooter out there, 5.5 hours(On exper/hard)...

Origin client is just like steam. If your computer is that bad to not be able to switch in between clients(hint double click of the mouse button) then why bother commenting in the thread? EA hasn't been on steam since Mass effect 2, no change there. Resource issues? Shut down steam and only have origin open or the ladder.As for the EA complaining about the sale, ya inset foot into mouth. Then again, DICE has a say some where when BF3 goes on sale.

It's alright. They are trying to emulate the interface that one would get if you threw GoG.com and Steam in a blender. Cloud storage, buddy list, chat options, etc. BF2 is still heavily played online for the fanbase. Lots of good servers on there that are near capacity.

I'd recommend BC2 + BC2 Vietnam over BF3 any day. BF3's extremely groggy in-game, not to mention having to deal with Origin and the web browser is a complete pain in the ass. The only thing it has on BC2 are jets, so unless that's a selling point for you I'd recommend the predecessor over it completely.

Absolutely correct. Its really bad. When I gave up on BF3 a couple months ago it was when a hacker was in god mode and about 4 of us surrounded him shooting and he didnt die. Just bounced around as the bullets hit him.

I've gone back to the console version. Not near as good, but it gets the job done.

I don't understand why game companies have gotten so bad at stopping hacks. Especially now when all games can be instantly updated at launch like BF3 does.

NOOOO!!!! haha. I have all of them but 2142. BF2 is good. But BF3 blows it away if you have a PC that can take it. Spend more for the real deal. BF2 isn't even the Frostbite engine let alone Frostbite 2 . . .

Now I'm reading this thread and hearing all these great comments for BF2.. and so I got it.. But I'm wondering.. Did anyone even play BF2142?? I LOVE that game!! It's soo awesome. It had this certain something that.. I purchased a bunch of recent other games(natural selection2, forge, CS:GO, Chivalry) and really I know I am just trying to relive the experience I had with 2142 - but i'm still looking...

I guess I'm kinda hoping BF2 totally blows BF2142 away.. and that's why I haven't seen any comments on it.

I'm debating purchasing the BF3 Premium DLC for $30 but is it worth it? Can anyone who currently plays the Premium stuff comment? Just trying to decide if the additional maps and gear are worth $30.

Me personally, played BF2142 a hell of a lot more that BF2. I will probably be buying 2142 during this sale. I have all BF2 content via steam, but have maybe played an hour total.

People can hate on 2142 all they want, but I thoroughly enjoyed it when it was big.

I should probably go and jump straight to BF3.. and even though I have a 'gaming' laptop... It really sucks to play online multiplayer games when I feel like my computer is lagggging and I get killed a helluva more times than I think I should be.. Maybe I'm just no good. But its always in the back of my mind.

Anyway.. good thing I purchased 2142 then. I actually didn't even play the expansion so I'm still excited. I just hope there's still plenty of people playing it. :woot:

Oh please. There is not a mp shooter out there without hackers. Big deal switch servers I have tens of servers in my queue. Besides, I seldom see hackers its not like there's one on every server not more nor less than normal. Don't let this ruin your experience

Would totally do this if I didn't already own BF3 on PS3 and PC :(. I didn't have the premium but it would be nice. Right now I have the Russian Version of BF3 on PC from urlhasbeenblocked so I'm just gonna assume Premium itself won't work.. if it would, whatever, not gonna bother. The game indeed is near the end of it's cycle, with BF4 hopefully out by the end of the year. I may need to upgrade my graphics card! Only at a GTX 460 right now but yeah, Great deal none the less.

Do people still play the bonus content and add-ons enough to make the extra content worth it over the main game (BF3)? Ok so Steam and Origins are like stores that sell games and allow you to access them. You have an account on something like Steam and basically you use that account to play games. Battlefield 3 is not on Steam, it REQUIRES Origin to play. So basically regardless of where you buy BF3 for the PC, you will all play together.

As for the add-ons, I actually only have the main game. I think people either play the original game or the newest add-ons. I have heard some of the earlier add-ons no one plays. I have the first add-on actually, the Karkand one. I didn't see many servers.

I bought the game the first day it came out and it was worth $60 for the original game, I would say the game+dlc is easily worth the $35. Good luck on the new computer! You can purchase it now and install it later.

It really is a very active online community still. There are tons of servers and many of them stay full most of the time.
The game is well worth whatever it is on sale for.
I bought it at $19.99 long ago, then bought BF3 and stayed with BC2 because it's better, to me. I play both now, but more BC2.

Also, the Vietnam add-on is good, but that isn't anywhere near as popular anymore. Most servers stay empty. But for $5 it's worth it even if just for the few servers that stay busy.

I need to qualify the above: I play on Steam, I don't know if playing through Origin means different servers, or what. I'm not a big gamer.

I bought limited edition, preorder, and when I bought Premium edition ($29.99) I only installed the key for the DLC add-ons. Not the main game. So I had no problems.

I also have an extra key for the main game.

I completely agree with this. I have both and have tried hard to like BF3 but I still spend more time on BFBC2.

If they came out today, knowing what I know about both, I would pay $60 for BFBC2 over paying $30 for BF3.

I bought BFBC2 back in 2010 when i was using a crappy hp laptop installed it and my laptop and it never would play. Fast foward to 2013 now I have a gaming pc is there anyway I can get this game on my current pc w/o having to pay I lost my original CD-key
