Nope, if you already have a contract with T-mobile and need a micro-sim, just go in-store or call online, should be free if you already have service with them.

celeritini 02-19-2013 06:02 PM

maybe because you bought any of those before?

I went online and they wouldn't send me one. Even customer service said I'd have to pay to get one.

Micro-sims are free as well. I'm just wondering because Tmo wanted to charge me $30 for a micro-sim even though I'm on contract.

use a fake name. Add APT #4930 (or some random value) after street name (eg. 14 SLICKDEALS WAY APT #4930)

use a VCC with $5 value (used BoA VCC works all the time)

hello3232 02-19-2013 06:29 PM

Well according to T-mobile's support you can activate these cards on contract lines. Hopefully it will work.

Quote:

My T-Mobile

To purchase a SIM card from My T-Mobile, follow these steps:

Log on to My T-Mobile.
Click Phones on the top menu.
Click See Prepaid Phones on the side menu.
Click add to cart on T-Mobile SIM Card Activation Kit.
Click checkout.
Enter the billing and shipping address information.
Select the shipping option.
Click continue to complete the order.
Note: After receiving the new SIM card, call Customer Care to add the new SIM card number on your account. You can dispose of the activation code and other information contained within the package as this is only applicable to Prepaid customers.

Anyone know if these SIM kits would work with Walmart Family Mobile (powered by T-mobile)? I'd rather use these free kits rather than paying $25 for their "activation kits". Thanks in advance

The Walmart Family Plan is through T-Mobile, and as such you would need a T-mobile activation kit and SIM card to get started. Walmart wants to charge $25 per phone for their version, so I just thought I would see if this free activation kit and SIM card would work instead. If it doesn't, it was free so no harm no foul

From the Walmart Family Plan website, concerning activating a new phone:

Quote:

After you order and receive your Starter Kit(s), you can add your phone(s) to your Family Mobile account by:

Visiting a Walmart store, where an associate can assist you
Calling the T-Mobile Activations Line at 1-877-308-9621
(6 a.m. - 9 p.m. PT)

Visiting www.myfamilymobile.com
Now the part in bold makes it seem that ANY T-mobile Activation kit and SIM card would work, don't you think?

For those who want something to put this in grab the Hero - H2000+ Iphone 5 for $195 (fake and has droid software)

http://www.amazon.com/Hero-H2000-...o+h2000%2B

You can easily load muiu themes to make it look identical to iOS in every way while saving $. Doesn't do 4g though. Has 2 sim card slots and I think it can do cdma.

or $150 from here - Hero H2000+ MTK6577 they sell the 4 or 4s older iphone clones for even less.

BoA VCC lets all charges go through. I used a fake name and added apt to my address but boa let the charge go through.

Well, I was totally joking, since I'm not sure why anyone would need a boatload of SIMs and even if you did their regular price is .99.

But of course, several other people in the thread were actually trying to do the same and failing, so..... I guess I was wrong:)

T-Mobile treats you like a criminal. I've never submitted a CC card and have them pester me with questions like: "What car have you driven" or "What college did you go to".

What the heck!? That's what just happen when I submitted my order. :(

@mav1713, i find tmobile prepaid service sub-par. now i've only used the voice togo plan, not the data. all may be well until you make some account changes, e.g. porting in a different #, or merge an account etc. the frustration comes when you start making a customer service call that almost always get routed overseas ( you all know where ), i would then explain to the rep the whole thing and they promised it'd be fixed and often it's not. You found out a week later and make another call, it starts all over again. T-mobile had decent service and pride years ago, at least when i was a postpaid customer... YMMV, i would run away from them as it's simply not worth my time and aggravation. Think about it.

I use AMEX prepaid for these low-dollar deals. Works GREAT and never a question or call. I always keep about 50 bucks on it...saves tons of hassle time.

I guess you can.
Just make a note of the SIM number on this micro sim card. Call Tmobile customer support and tell them that you have lost your current (postpaid) TMobile SIM card and you want your SIM card number updated to the new (micro) sim number. Tell them the new microsim card number. Thats it. (I did this from prepaid sim to prepaid sim change, this works the same way across the pre/post paid services too.. it all matters is the SIM card number on your account). Try it.

Correct. I did just this a week ago, except I payed $.99 for my micro SIM. Bought Nexus 4 and this Micro SIM and was good to go.

Yes you can. I got this same Micro SIM last week for $.99 and was able to add it to my contract line.

Can't get it to work with any browser. Guess I'll be going with AT&T prepaid instead of Tmobile.

Any nano sims?

Keep trying it. Took a few refreshes on my end but I was able to get it to load with Chrome.

Looks like the only nano SIM option online is with new contract. Apparently, you have to go to a T-Mobile store to get a Nano SIM without contract, but there is surely a cost associated with it.

It finishes, but with errors. Tried different CCs, all 3 browsers. Then I got to the credit check questions, answered all 3, then again errored out. Same thing happened many months ago when this offer was available.

Maybe I was just lucky then. I was able to place an order for 1 about 10 minutes ago or so with no issue.

vanloggins 02-19-2013 09:38 PM

With Net10 switching from "unlimited" data for AT&T BYOD sim users to 1.5GB per month capped switching to a t-mobile prepaid plan is looking more appealing, I rarely ever talk on my phone and mostly use around 2GB of data a month and a varying amount of texts and I never tether so the 30 per month no contract plan is sounding pretty good now.

ja2038 02-19-2013 09:38 PM

$30 plan?

You guys talking about the 100 minute, 5Gb 4G data plan? I love that plan, and just signed another line to it last Thursday.

You activate a sim card online and they offer the plan, but read carefully, some plans offer Megabytes of data, some offer Gigabytes.

What I especially like doing is when leaving my phone in 2G mode when the phone is "idling" and I am not specifically using the phone. The phone can get a lot done, slowly, at 2G, and it's free.

SPVietBoy 02-19-2013 09:41 PM

So I'd like to echo a question... Why would you get these? (Just an honest question)

freephoneid 02-19-2013 09:42 PM

Can any one tell me if I just purchased it without activating service, will I be charged for anything from tmobile?

GunMan 02-19-2013 09:43 PM

What a pathetic POS (and, no, I don't mean "point of sale") company. This is the 2nd time I tried to place and order with them. Their "verifications department" cannot process any of my credit cards, all of which work at all other online stores that I have tried.

I think most people get them because they have a phone they bought from ebay that they want to get service on. Or maybe a friend is coming from overseas and wants a US phone for awhile.

If you go to a T-Mobile store they might charge you $15 for the sim. From 800 TMobile it's $7 or so. From a Walmart you have to buy a $19 phone and throw the phone away.

I wasn't. They do ask for a credit card number and say they will put a $1 hold on it.

I do have a question, is it possible to get one of these sims and then get t-mobile to let you activate it for their monthly 4G no contract service without having to purchase a phone. If it's a stupid question please forgive me, just know that when you click on this on the website they want you to get it with a phone. I already have a unlocked gsm model galaxy nexus I would want to use it with.

if your phone supports a micro sim, just go to store to get a free micro sim and you can use it on a contract line

T-Mobile (corporate stores) will not give you a free sim, they will charge you $10 IIRC. In November when I got my Nexus 4, I called a couple stores in the area and they all said the same. I took my regular sized sim card to one of the store and it was willing to help me cut it to micro size.

Really depends on who you talk to. I met a a nice customer rep. at my local T-Mobile. At first she said I would have to buy the sims for $20, but after I told her that my mother and I had bought iPhone 5's to use on their network, she gave them to me for free.

order another 2 kits after 2 kits last time. Love the $30 plan.

debteb 02-19-2013 11:04 PM

I had got two micro sims last time t-mobile was offering them for free. For some reason I need a regular SIM now and the checkout button wouldn't light up for me. So I cleared cookies on my browser (or simply use incognito mode on chrome) and it worked.

Incognito mode on chrome people!

Yup, it's useful for overseas visitors to pop into their GSM phones. But the last time they had the free SIM deal, the activation kits no longer state "initial $3.34 value." I wonder if this means it no longer comes with $3.34/10minutes of initial airtime?

ordinaryman09 02-20-2013 02:07 AM

You either get a new phone number or you can port your number over from another carrier. I ported my number online at the same time I activated my SIM and plan. If you're coming from another T-Mobile plan and want the same number, I believe you can contact T-Mobile customer service and see if they'll do that for you. I've read a lot of people's comments that they've been able to do so.

You can activate the SIM any time before the expiration date of the SIM. The date is on the card where you pop the SIM out.

Both of the ones I got last month when they were free came with the $3.34 preloaded credit on them.

Can't have enough of these, so in for 2 more. And no problems processing. Don't understand why so many have issues with these orders.

PLP 02-20-2013 05:43 AM

I do not get it... why is it so big deal and is voted so high?

C'mon, regular price (almost everyday price) is 0.99. That is next to nothing.
If it comes for free - what can you do with the card? Buy 10 of them and what? Resell? Use them?
Even having 10 free minutes on the card all the activation hassle (read - time you spent to activate it)... I guess you could earn more than it is worth it.

It just weird.

Is it great because it is FREE? Just it? Still does not justify need of more sim cards than realistically needed.

Short calculations.
3.34 per card.

10 minutes to get through site traffic, 5 minutes to order, 5 minutes to open the box and install the card, 10 minutes to activate...
all together 30 minutes.
That makes what? 6.68/hr.

That is below minimum wage. Guys, calm down...

Dealbro22 02-20-2013 05:53 AM

Not sure why, but I just ordered a regular sim and a micro sim. Thanks OP? lol

Say you have at&t phone or tablet and you want to go to tmobile. Well here you get the sim card for free and just choose a plan. That at&t device would have to be unlocked by the way. So it would be good for say a iphone user.

I got the same "Sorry - we're not able to process your order" message.

I clicked on Chat (you can also call the number given in the Sorry message). CSR said there's nothing wrong with the order and that it is standard procedure for online orders to go into a review status. She asked for my order no, billing address and the last 4 digits of my SSN. Then, she told me to refresh my browser. I did and my order status showed up as "Being Processed."

Got the sim for my GS3 and then activated the $30 a month data text plan and make calls off Google Voice. Can't believe i didn't think of this sooner. $110 a month is bullshit.

Do you still get the $3.34 activation credit on that plan, or is that only for 'pay by the minute' plan?

For me these are handy to have around the next time a one of the 5 people on my plan wants to swap to a phone with a different SIM size during one of those rare periods where getting a free SIM from T-Mobile isn't an option.

As most have suggested. SIMs are usually available on-demand from corporate stores.

Usually

Good luck!

Yes they'll work with iPad 1 as long as you get the micro sim. Also just remember if you need to access a text message from t-mobile (password for your account gets texted) just pop the card in a phone.

pochoboy 02-20-2013 08:38 PM

I"m lost on this, got 2 regular and 2 micro. Why? I don't know. I've just rid myself of a tmobile 2 year $190 classic family plan and re-signed for another 2 year $120 family value plan. That's a $70/month savings for the next 2 years

I got these since it's free and thought if I bought another phone in the future I could pop one of these in if my current sim in phone is a different size.

Probably because it saves a trip to a T-Mobile store.

I ordered two micro sims last month because I was thinking of switching to T-Mobile in the future. Then a week or so after I got them decided to go ahead and get a Nexus 4. Already had the sim card so I did not need to go out to get them after I got my phone.

That is the only thing I can think of.

I am also glad this popped back up as I was needing to get a regular sim for an iPhone 3GS I am going to be getting setup on T-Mobile prepaid after I get it unlocked.

Try UPS Mail Innovations. The package travels via UPS until it gets near your town, then the Postal Service delivers it. (Same thing as FedEx's SmartPost.) The tracking numbers don't start with 1Z because the USPS will use the same tracking number once they get it from UPS.

UPS Mail Innovations [upsmailinnovations.com]

It's either that, or it actually shipped via USPS.

Sorry for the ignorance here, but why is this a slick deal, in other words why is this of any value? If you activate a prepaid or contract plan woth tmobile, they will give you a sim for free anyways, and i dont see the value without a plan.....obviously it is a slick deal, making the front page, i am just curious as to why

to create fake FB accts. at least that is what I was told the last time I posted a similar question.

What is the cheapest way to get a prepaid phone/plan? Don't need anything other than voice.

I'm seeing these like 30 minute plans but all of them seem to have a time-restriction on them like you have to use the 30 minutes in 30 days.

Guys, I want to switch from AT&T to T-mobile and get the $30 plan through walmart. It would save me aabout $40/month!

Do I just order the activation kit and call familymobile? And could I use my current phone with that plan? I noticed the fine print says **New phone purchase required

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks..

QUOTE from Walmart reviewer

Please note that to get on this plan you DO NOT need to purchase a new cell phone from Walmart as few others have pointed out in the reviews. Here's my setup (using my Nexus One).
Purchased a T-Mobile activation kit (basically the SIM card). Popped the SIM into my phone and activated it using the instruction on the activation kit pack. Once activated, bought this pack from Walmart. Walmart sent an email with topup code and phone number to activate this.Called that number to apply this topup. Done! Using this plan with my old phone.

t-mobile sucks;
I was never able to buy anything from t-mobile.com for any prepaid things.
I got banned to buy any t-mobile prepaid because i am postpaid customer

They claim that mine shipped on 2/21, but there's no sign of it yet. I'm guessing that "shipped" just means that their invoicing system generated a tracking number, and does not mean that a package yet exists.

I got mine a few days ago. My tracking number was incorrect
