Saw this on cag and wanted to give my fellow SD'ers a quick heads up. Check your PSN inbox! Apparently, Sony is randomly handing out $10 PSN credit. A lot of people are reporting that they've received it although several are stating that they have not, unfortunately. There's speculation that it's for PS+ subscribers only but a lot of non-subscribers have reported receiving it as well.

Doesn't hurt to check! I was pleasantly surprised to have received it as I NEVER check my psn inbox.

From: PSN
Subject: $10 Credit

Thank you for being a loyal customer and fan of the Playstation Network. As a token of our appreciation, we've sent you $10.00 to spend on the Playstation Store! Click on the link below to redeem your credit. Code expires 3/5/13

You can check your balance here, maybe:
https://account.sonyentertainment...gin.action

^^
Doesn't work that way. The credit is not automatically applied. Instead it is an attachment that puts a code in the code redemption screen which you then need to accept to get the credit added to your wallet. If you haven't done that then it will not show on your balance page.

The way I got mine was going to my Messages via the PS3 console
You will see pic 1
then you click on the 'attachment'
and it will ask if you want to add the code and then you will see pic 2

crapoo16 02-20-2013 12:57 AM

Sweet! Just redeemed mine, Inbox says it was sent out around 10PM PST. I am not a PS+ member by the way.

FREE 10$ Playstation network code North america only

NORTH AMERICA ONLY**

Check your messages on your ps3 if you're a north american psn user. You should have a message from PSN for your 10 dollars.

You can't view the message on your ps vita if you have one.

Baddogdaddy 02-20-2013 01:17 AM

Thanks for the heads up, I never checked mine before. Just checked and I got one too. I'm a ps+ member but only for about a month.

How would you check on your PS3? I go to my "Friends" section but find nothing more than trophies, no mail. Nevermind. It's under Friends then Messages. No credit. PSN Plus since January.

henwy 02-20-2013 02:41 AM

Never had a PS3, just the handhelds, so I guess that means no chance here.

If you received mail, then the message box would appear.

No credit received in my account but I already had about $40 from Christmas gift cards. I wonder if this will impact my chances of receiving a credit...?

Sorandkairi 02-20-2013 05:29 AM

Thanks OP! Repped!

rockydmise 02-20-2013 06:01 AM

Thanks for the heads up. Not a PS+ subscriber but did get one. Checked my nephew and nieces inbox's but there was nothing there for 'em. Wonder if its just for peeps that have spent money in Playstation Store? I also am now wondering if u fwd that mssg to another account before redeeming if they can cash it in to use. I've been wanting my nephew to purchase some DLC so we could have more maps on some games we do online. It a tough lesson I've been having him learn about how to wisely spend his money on games he loves vs used games that are "eh" from gamestop.

enovah 02-20-2013 06:06 AM

Score 10 free dollars on PSN! Thanks for the heads up OP!

dkeat 02-20-2013 06:13 AM

I saw an article about them sending this out to "loyal" PSN users, so there may be some requirements to qualify.

soldoutmatinee 02-20-2013 06:29 AM

i never spend anything on psn but I should get one just for having bought a vita on day one. that's loyal enough

12jrodxx12 02-20-2013 06:34 AM

I didn't get one, at least not yet. I'm angry.

To all of you who recieved the credit: Do you spend tons of money on PSN? Are you PS+?

I spend very little, and I have PS+.

pholly 02-20-2013 06:56 AM

Got one. I guess it's either totally random but if not here's some stats about me that may have contributed if it wasn't random, maybe others who got it will have some things in common. I have had PS+ for about 1 year, just redeemed another year to get the extra 3 months, have spent about $50 on various PSN stuff over the last year, was a member during the long outage, have participated in various betas and I have a Vita. I've been a PSN user for about 4-5 years, maybe the length of time you've been a member has something to do with it.

Baguda 02-20-2013 07:08 AM

I can't even find an inbox when I log in on the web. Do I have to use my PS3 instead?

I don't see any (Friends) > (Message Box) > (Received) option anywhere via the web. Does the Friends menu option only show up if you have a message?

juanic 02-20-2013 07:09 AM

Just checked and found the $10 credit in my inbox....Thanks!!

Pretty sure you can only view your inbox on the PS3 itself.

raven70 02-20-2013 07:22 AM

I looked at mine, and had a $5 credit from 2/16. Basically said thanks for being a customer. Did not have a $10 though.

RumbleBeeMan 02-20-2013 07:41 AM

Got it!
Ps3 user only. PS+ Subscriber for 20 months. I make 5-10 PSN purchases a year.

Thanks. Shockingly I had the $10 credit too. I would've never known to look without this thread. After you redeem the credit, the message is still there and I don't see any way to delete it.

So, once we have redeemed the code and it's in our wallet, we have no time limit to use the $10?

I might as well ask another question about PSN Store via the web. Is there any way to get a useful complete purchase history where it displays the names of each game/add-on? It seems the only options are paging through your media 10 items at a time (takes forever) or viewing your complete history which shows you a worthless "Product Purchase" instead of the item name.

And I wish there were a way I could sort out non-PS3 stuff in my download history list so I don't have to scroll through stuff I can't use (yet).

PEN15 02-20-2013 07:59 AM

I got the credit. I have three PS3s, a Vita, PS+ subscriber and probably spent $100 on PSN over the last six months.

BKA 02-20-2013 08:10 AM

Didn't get it. PS Vita and PSP user since 2007. :-( Found where they send messages to the Vita though. It's under group messaging and I had two message from Sony from Nov 2012 unread...lol.

The credit doesn't add to your account until you click the link in the message, so going to that website won't show you anything

I'm not sure. The message supposedly says something about expiring March 5th, so I'd be sure to use the $10 before then.

Pretty sure that the expiration they've noted is for the voucher code, which needs to be redeemed in the PSN store by the 5th. Once it's been added to your wallet, your funds will never expire.

sefjwm 02-20-2013 02:08 PM

You have to check on your PS3 or Vita. It is a personal message sent from Sony with an attachment. The attachment needs to be selected which then puts a code in the code redemption section of the store. Then you need to accept the code to add it to your account balance. It will not automatically apply to your balance so you will not see it online until you do.

JohnnyS3871 02-20-2013 02:49 PM

This might sound really dumb, but how do I select the code? I got the message this morning but I can't figure out how to actualy select the attachment below the message to redeem the code. Any help?

EDIT: Randomly worked. Did nothing differently...strange

Bootes 02-20-2013 03:06 PM

Got it. :) From what I can tell, there's no way to see it on a Vita. You need a PS3 for this.

I've had a PS3 for awhile and a Vita since December. PS+ Since January and PSP at launch, but I don't think that was ever on PSN.

I assume basically all PS3 owners will get this and it will be mentioned at today's PS4 announcement. It just takes time to get to every PSN member.

Al2x 02-20-2013 03:11 PM

hell yes... got my free $10 :)

PS+ subscriber for about a year, PS3 owner since launch, Vita owner since launch :]

Chitown021 02-20-2013 05:16 PM

I also lucked out and got one! Been a plus member since the PSN outage, if that has anything to do with it...

mrredskin 02-20-2013 05:24 PM

also received, to my surprise.

i have a small psn balance and have had ps+ for over a year. have probably spent $60+ over the years in the store

Could this be further compensation for those of us who had our info hacked a while back? I got credit karma and a few games I never played out of it.

ftlaudman 02-21-2013 08:01 AM

I got a $10 voucher. Thanks Sony and OP!

12jrodxx12 02-21-2013 08:01 AM

I got a new message in my inbox! I was so happy! Then I read it. It was from Ubisoft telling me to buy the AC3 DLC. What a let down! Seems like alot of people are getting this and it's honestly kinda p#$sing me off that I didn't get it. It just doesn't make sense that it's just completely random. Maybe it's staggered.

sonicva 02-21-2013 08:01 AM

PSN inbox is where you receive messages on your PS3/Vita. Go to your friends list and scroll up. That being said, I received a voucher. Just to keep track, been a PS3 owner since 07, PSP and now VITA owner, and a Plus subscriber almost since its launch.

HemiGirl 02-21-2013 08:01 AM

thanks Op! i just cchecked my messages and had the $10 voucher. I also called playstation to make sure it was a real message from them, it was. Thanks again i never check the messages as the kids play it, and i have no clue on what i'm doing, lol.

So, you aren't buying any more PS3 retail games either?

I'm hoping that your PSN content license will be valid on PS4 with the new cloud feature.

proppat 02-21-2013 08:05 AM

Nothing here either. PS3, PSP, and Vita owner, PS+ subscriber, I buy games off of PSN fairly regularly. No dice. It'd be nice to know Sony's criteria in selecting people. Seems that a lot of people who've thrown a lot of money at Sony are getting the cold shoulder.

thebtran 02-21-2013 08:13 AM

12jrodxx12 02-21-2013 08:20 AM

I saw on the Sony forum that people without PS+, that have never made a purchase, and never turn the PS3 on are getting it. "Loyal" seems to be strangely defined. Oh yeah, and I'm pi$#ed I didn't get the $10. Did I mention that?

PS+, bought two PS3's, and two PSP's, not to mention every other past gen device. I've made very few purchases on PSN-4 or 5 lifetime.

marcatwork 02-21-2013 08:23 AM

Ehh, in all fairness I really doubt the new Xbox won't be backwards compatible as well. That's what you get when you change to a new architecture. It's funny, the only thing in the PS4 specs that stand out are GDDR5 RAM. The A8 APU is just a tweaked version of the same that you can find on a value $400 laptop. The only tweak is make it function with the GDDR5 RAM.

i agree there are barriers imposed by the different hardware. but I will not continue to pay for software that does not work on future hardware. Optical media I am ok with buying, it can be sold/traded/etc, but digital downloads cannot. If you ever want to use those again (apparently) you'll need to keep a PS3 around for perpetuity.

Why do people accept this? You buy digital music today you will be able to use it almost anywhere and from almost any device, forever. That's how digital purchases should work.

I'll be building a steambox (or buying one?) and going that route for my gaming fix.

Done.

Bummer!

PS+ and Vita owner since Dec. PS3 owner since release and have had a few PSN purchases. No $10 credit.

boourns84 02-21-2013 09:39 AM

If PSN downloads don't work on a ps4, I doubt I'll buy it right away, especially for $400 or $500. I don't even really play new games

ecf 02-21-2013 09:43 AM

Two PS3s, a Vita (thanks, Cowboom!), an old PSP and PS+ since launch. No code. Meh.

Why do people accept this? You buy digital music today you will be able to use it almost anywhere and from almost any device, forever. That's how digital purchases should work.

I'm not saying that you're wrong. If Microsoft's showing is the same as Sony's, I think the door is wide open for Valve/Steam to really blow the competition out of the water. Launch a system for less with the same hardware specs and built in compatibility for thousands of existing games. It's a shame that Gabe Newell is too far up his own arse to pull it off.

Valve will finally end up doing something and it'll probably be lackluster. It's a shame, all they really need is to make a compact, Mac Mini sized with the same specs as the PS4/720 that runs on a lightweight, instant on version of Linux. Offer Steam on it with the same market structure/sales that they're doing with the Windows side of the house. Then offer consumers the option to sideload their own copy of Windows and encourage PC only developers to offer a Valve box optimized version of the software. Update the hardware every 4 years. But make it still FEEL like a console, even if it's a full blown PC. I think a lot of gamers would flock to something like this because the software would be reasonably priced and they wouldn't be locked into Steams infrastructure (i.e., they could use it as a PC if they wanted, buy games from elsewhere, etc).

If nothing else, it would be the FPS players console of choice. I think there will always be a market for the type of experience Nintendo provides, though.

BPH21 02-21-2013 09:59 AM

Got mine last night. Been on PSN for about 6 months and I've paid for a few games when they were on sale two weeks ago. Not sure if that's enough to qualify the $10.

12jrodxx12 02-21-2013 10:53 AM

I have a theory. I was looking at free themes for PS+ and came across a dragon dynamic theme. I watched the trailer for it which is just a low quality recording of the theme on a tv screen. At the top of a internet connected PS3 output, there is a notification banner. In that banner on the theme preview, it said spend $60 on PSN get $10 back. I am wondering if that is what's going on here.

I repeat. F Sony. After this gen, done with console gaming. PC-Steam all the way

Just saw this, but yes....full Steam Ahead!

Update: Sony has confirmed to Dale North that it has the ability to honor your PSN purchases through its cloud service. If it chooses to, it can give you everything back in streaming form. Of course, it's not said it will -- and if it doesn't after saying this, it'll open itself up to major criticism. Gotta hope Sony does the decent thing.

My guess is that they'll treat it the same as they did UMD transfers for the Vita: say it's possible/down the pipeline, then not talk about it for a long time, and then just say that they decided to abandon it when no one really cares anymore. I liked a lot of what I saw in yesterday's presentation, but Sony has a lot to prove when it comes to turning around a reputation of leaving smart ideas out to die.

dmcccdmn 02-21-2013 01:05 PM

Sony wanted to make PS3 users happy by sending $10 credits out. The only problem is they're also creating a lot of unhappy PS3 users if they're left out in the cold with no credits.

Ephemeris 02-21-2013 02:11 PM

got mine on the 20th around 2am

Appreciative 02-21-2013 02:20 PM

Where is the Draft Letter of Complaint? (smile) And the link to send it, so that all of us get the $10.

thegersh 02-21-2013 02:42 PM

Got $10.

Bought 1 thing off store (which was a PITA because the store didn't accept my credit card so i had to buy a code from gamestop), PS+ free-trial.

chaoss 02-21-2013 03:20 PM

I'm not a PS+ user but have purchased every cod map pack that has been released

wngmv 02-21-2013 03:30 PM

Still nothing. PS+ subscribers. Bought numerous DLC and stuff off PSN.
Who should we complain to?

elipudkcaz 02-21-2013 03:36 PM

I got it, I am not a PS+ member

Ps3Rules 02-21-2013 03:53 PM

I didn't get a message :(

Been a ps3 owner since 2008. No psn+ and no psn store purchases tho. I have bought 30+ new games over the years! This sucks Sony!

sinners 02-21-2013 04:56 PM

not on mine

rollingtundra 02-21-2013 05:04 PM

Nothing in mine with several purchases over the last couple of years.

CheapestGamer 02-21-2013 05:04 PM

I was shocked to find this when I logged on last night. But it's nice little gift from Sony.

BeerManMike 02-21-2013 05:10 PM

Save it, if playstation all-stars wins on the 25th it will be like $20-$30 - $10 "credit" = $10-$20 out of pocket!

*hopes that's how it goes down*

UnitCS 02-21-2013 05:21 PM

Nice got it,I'm guessing it's for PS+ members only haha

csith76 02-21-2013 05:42 PM

got mine the other day

Alp2 02-21-2013 08:05 PM

I'm not a PS+ user but I think I spend more than $300 on those Ultimate Team packs so hell yeah I got one

somesayjc 02-21-2013 08:10 PM

Collapse 02-21-2013 09:44 PM

Check your inbox on your PS3.

Gentoo 02-21-2013 10:59 PM

they obviously r targeting users wit the least amt of activity. 30 plus games is nothin try a 100 plus and no 10 dollars

fwdmydeals 02-22-2013 08:05 AM

I have spent a few $100 on psn/ps+ and got a $10 credit. FYI - Message was sent on 2/20/13

I didn't get anything. I have been a PS+ subscriber for just over a year and have a handful of purchases on the PSN Store.

Oh well.

xplicitone 02-22-2013 08:14 AM

Nothing for me. Been a PS3 owner since release, PS+ recently, VITA owner since last year. Purchased a few things from PSN too over the years. I was even in their BETA test program back in the day.

wezlypipz 02-22-2013 08:23 AM

I am kind of disappointed. I have had a launch PS3 as soon as it came out, wasted $600 on that beast and I am on my 2nd PS3 and have the Vita and have made hundreds of dollars of PSN purchases over the years and not a PS+ member so I thought...maybe, but my guess is that we will never know the prerequisites for this $10 credit. Though it was kind of dumb on Sony's part, make some of your customers love you because they got free money, but make the ones who don't get it hate you a little more.

miltownsho 02-22-2013 10:05 AM

Got mine whoop!

I think you need to have spent a certain amount on your psn to have received the 10$.

Both me and my brother got one. He and I have spent well over 100$ on our accounts.

godspeedx 02-22-2013 11:41 AM

I also did not get anything. I am a huge loyal fan. I bought a PS Vita with 32gb & PS Plus at launch.

ajh52 02-22-2013 12:28 PM

Nothing for me, but I've only had a PS3 for about 3 months now. I'm guessing they're trying to convince people to continue to keep buying games in the PSN store. After the PS4 announcement, I imagine many people will stop using the PSN store since the games won't transfer to the new system.

NikoP 02-22-2013 05:49 PM

Hundred of games purchased through PSN and a PS+ member since they launched the PS+ service. Nothing. Awesome!

Oh well, it doesn't matter that much to me now anyways. I probably won't be purchasing much since PS3 PSN content doesn't transfer over to the PS4.

dragonxeric 02-23-2013 06:16 AM

I've been PS+ for a good year now but I think those who got it spent more than 100 during this past year.

ChristopherZ 02-23-2013 07:14 AM

I got the voucher, but I know I didn't spend more than $30 on psn in the last year. I have 2 ps3's and a psp. Member of the playstation underground forever.

Sanspants 02-23-2013 09:49 AM

I've had PS+ for about a year and a half and have spent quite a bit on PSN (mostly because of Rock Band) since I got my PS3 in 2008 and I did not get a voucher.

Do we know what qualified someone to get it?

I still haven't seen anything and I've been PS+ since the beginning. Did you ever see anything show up?

Cell323 02-24-2013 12:54 AM

got mine, bought Journey :)

gohanrice 02-24-2013 03:39 AM

I got one, have a launch PS3, Vita, had PS Plus for well over a year now, but I think I've only spent a couple dollars in the past year on PSN. My account does have a lot of activity though; someone's frequently on it watching videos or playing a game.

joe uncool 02-25-2013 07:48 AM

I signed up for ps+ last year when they had the spend 100 get $20 credit. I also purchased a few items about a month and half ago when they had a special running.

I did get the 10 credit.

pdmayton 02-26-2013 02:12 PM

I have two different PSN accounts, and I got nothing on either of them! Boo!

moktor 02-26-2013 02:15 PM

I got nothing as well. Have had PS+ since it first launched, and have spent quite a bit on PSN stuff the past couple years.

Toysoldier34 02-28-2013 10:23 AM

I got one a few days ago.

I have been a PS+ subscriber for about a year and have had my PSN account since about 2007 and have purchased many games. I have close to 150 games on my HDD.

SweetStation 02-28-2013 02:17 PM

The exact requirements for this will forever be a mystery. My relative in a different city got it even though he's only had PS+ once (only a 3 month subscription back in Summer 2012) and spends maybe $5-10 on PSN per year. This is a big contrast compared to a lot of people here who received it and I would not call someone who has only owned a PS1 and PS3 and spends a few bucks on PSN per year a loyal customer.

I've owned all of Sony's consoles and handhelds (including two functional PS3s because I'm such a fan) and I didn't receive anything.

wendal 03-01-2013 11:34 PM

I just got mine. It came in as a code to be redeemed on the Sony website. It says that the code expires on March 5. After I added it, my wallet balance went up by $10. Do you think that the $10 will expire, or just the code would have had I not redeemed it?

The funds in your wallet will never expire. The expiration is only for the code, which needs to be redeemed before the 5th. You're good to go! :)

infour1 03-02-2013 12:15 AM

Got mine. I've had 3 PS3's starting with a 80GB fat. I've bought around $100 - $150 on PSN with the last purchase being about $10 in February. I've never subscribed to PS+.

Sony may just be sending out these codes in batches, so keep checking if you haven't received yours yet.

comapro 03-02-2013 12:22 AM

Wow I got the $10 credit on my account last week AND a voucher today. :D
