thanks. i prefer Amazon.

I've had the Logitech G5 since 2006, If this is anywhere near the quality of that then its a great mouse, I've used it religiously for nearly 7 years

dsandsake 02-21-2013 05:34 AM

The G500 is an awesome mouse, and this is just about the lowest you'll see it. Out of all of the mice I've owned, the G500 and the old MX518 feel and perform the best.

Great mouse while it works, but the plastic that contacts the click buttons wears out for some people and the clicking becomes much less responsive. Used mine for about a year before the problem surfaced; ended up having to take it apart and glue a piece of tin foil to the plastic under the shell so it makes contact with the button once again.

Do a google search for the issue and you'll see people complaining about it (happens most often when you try to hold a mouse button down). Logitech was even offering free repairs for people within certain time periods of purchase.

Again, besides that, the mouse is awesome.

Ken062083 02-21-2013 05:54 AM

The G5 set the standard for gaming mice. Its what every other mouse is compared to. I have a G700 because I wanted the wireless option, but the G5 is a fine choice if you don't care about that.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were still doing repairs. Logitech's policies of device replacement and customer service are some of the best out there. I had a G7 mouse that I bought from Newegg 3 years ago, it finally stopped connecting to its receiver so I figured no big deal, we had a good run. Contacted Logitech anyways to see if there was anything else I could do to fix it, they immediately shipped me a brand new G700 (MSRP $100.00) on the spot. No questions asked, didn't even ask me to return the broken one. I've never seen anything like that before or since.

ZeeLobby 02-21-2013 05:59 AM

I make this same comment every time this mouse is listed on Slickdeals. It is quite simply THE BEST gaming mouse I have ever owned. Going on 2 years now, and it still performs amazing. Braided cable is awesome. Form is extremely comfortable. Definitely the best non-wireless mouse you could buy. I would honestly even suggest this mouse for non-gamers.

On second thought, I might actually pick another one up, just to MAKE SURE that if they ever discontinue it I have a backup in my drawer... Yea, that's sad, but so true.

for every 19 happy customers theres 1 that posts an issue online. after a few people have the same probably all of a sudden theres a bunch of angry people who want a product recall.

5thElement 02-21-2013 06:16 AM

DONT buy this mouse. The wheel spins freely and you never know when the next step is, SOOOO annoying.

LNCarrillo 02-21-2013 06:19 AM

Great mouse. It is very sensitive in movment. I have had a couple issues over time. sometimes when scrolling, I get a backlash and if I'm scrolling up and stop, it scrolls back down on it's own. then same thing happens when I scroll down sometimes. Also I've had some issues with it not able to detect movment on some surfaces, like my light wooden desk without a mousepad. I will admit I'm not the most technical usere and haven't really set up all the buttons for gaming or anything, but these are the issues I've seen with it.
I will say despite all that, overall I'm extremely happy with this mouse. I've had it for about 3 years and really like it.

there's a button on the mouse right below the wheel that you can click to change it from free-spinning to non-free-spinning.

There is a button right below the scroll wheel that changes the scroll mode. If you press it in, it becomes a click wheel, and when it's out it's a free scrolling wheel. You have to be in click-wheel mode for any kind of game or else it will scroll through the weapons automatically, etc.

I know they call the free scrolling mode "Document mode", but honestly I'm not sure why anyone would really want to use that.

The problem might actually be more prevalent, but most people won't notice it since it only really occurs when you are holding a button down for an extended period of time. A good test is to click-drag a box on the background of your desktop and move the mouse around in circles, and see if the start point for the box changes at all while dragging.

I noticed it when I was playing Skyrim and I couldn't cast spells because the mouse button was releasing for a split second when I was trying to charge the spell. Really annoying when a guy with a giant ax is chasing your armor-less mage around a cave.

Would this make a good ergonomic regular use mouse.

I'm looking for a wired ergo mouse for daily use/office work. Dont care much about gaming.

Would this be a good fit?

A guy at work ad the same complaint about the mice wheel moving freely. If you pay attention people, you might notice that one button under the wheel. ;)

When I told him to press that button, he was in speechless.

Its really ergonomic, especially for big hands.

I have one at home and one in the office. I love it.

I have a different Logitech mouse that I leave in the free-scroll mode 100% of the time. Then again, I'm on a Mac where free-scrolling is the norm. Does it not work the same on Windows? If you move the scroll wheel and it still scrolls your window in 3-line steps or whatever, I can see where that would be infinitely annoying.

1rkrage 02-21-2013 07:34 AM

very good mouse with one of the best sensors out there at the moment.

I find "hyper scroll" quite useful when dealing with large (usually text) files and web pages on my Logitech mice. Though I don't use it constantly, I do use it on a daily basis for brief periods (i.e. turn on, scroll to where I want, and turn off).

Another-Nocturn 02-21-2013 08:29 AM

I've gone through two of these mice in the past 5 years, both failing with the dreaded "double click" failure on the left main button (you cant drag objects, cant click -drag-select. cant make a steady-line in a paint application without micro-breaks... its like the switch can't hold itself closed without being mashed). Logitech has replaced both without question; awesome support...love Logitech for that reason.

As for the mouse, its a rock star and despite the early switch failure on two units, I'll keep on buying this model until they retire it.

OH - and the splatter paint looks sort of greyish brown under areas where your hand touches it...but that's purely cosmetic.

Just had to retire my Razer Diamondback for mouse clicking problems. In for one at just the right time. Thanks.

Chimay 02-21-2013 09:18 AM

Great mouse, nice features and a good feel in my hand. Admittedly, I did have one break - scroll wheel push click stopped clicking, but still registered the command. However, Logitech support is top notch and sent a new one in the mail w/o even requesting the old one back.

TU, nice find OP

TenKOhms 02-21-2013 09:21 AM

never had an issue with the mouse maybe i just got lucky :)

Yes, this is perfect for office work. I have it for 3 years already. It is perfect in Excel.

Best Buy price matched Amazon! Called 1'st, went to store & got my mouse!!
Thanks OP. Repped & Thumbs Up!

dragoon7134 02-21-2013 09:49 AM

Got this mouse back on BF for the same price and it's pretty nice, replaced my old M500. It has a different feel to it, but still feels nice haha and the extra weights are cool to have, but after testing it, i disliked the weight distribution and it in general.

People complained about the dpi adjuster near the left click, but i actually like it there, not too close or far.

wizzardeel 02-21-2013 10:05 AM

Been waiting for a great gaming mouse to go down in price for months now. I am tired of playing CS:GO with my Dell wired mouse (hate when I can't properly awp and miss people because of the mouse). Looking forward to doing some damage with this.
I also picked up a SteelSeries QcK Gaming Mouse Pad (Black) after some research.

keep in mind there a mixed reports of the G500 working well/terribly with QcK pads. I was completely happy with my G500 over the use of 3 years before it started to freeze/die. I am now using a G400 with a QcK pad and am also completely satisfied.

Stopdroproll 02-21-2013 11:34 AM

I have been using MX518 for like the past 7 years. Anyone know how Razer matches up against Logitech?

My first MX518 died like 2 years ago out of warranty and Logitech gave me a 50% off coupon and I got myself another one.

I would go with another Logitech, G400 is the newer version of MX518 and is exactly the same. The grip and feel is vastly different on the Razer, people who got used to Logitech will not like it, and people who got used to Razer will not like Logitech.

If you're tired of it then try G500 here or a G9X.

For reference, I've used MX518 for 3 years and now using G400 for 2 years on QcK mousepad.

Thresh 02-21-2013 01:33 PM

Used 1 for years. Bought girlfriend one for future PC build. Mine finally became unusable (something happening where I could no longer scroll across my screen without having the cursor stagger/jump - something up with the optics I thought).

In for 1 for stealing gf's! Thx

Also, using steelseries QcK+ pad. And it's smooth as butter.

I had this mouse for not even a year and it developed problems with the clicking. It would constantly double click instead of single click or just not be responsive at all. Couldn't get it replaced so tried to go in and fix it myself, the tiny copper connector thing in the click box was soooo hard to re-attach properly after I took it out and tried to re-bend it slightly that I had to end up giving up and throwing the mouse away. :( sad...not buying a high price mouse again.

Very useful review. I had same problem with prior mouses. so I will pass this lol

iamcyclopseatme 02-21-2013 04:20 PM

Never had the clicking issue but is it a huge issue? Like I said before, Logitechs RMA service is great and they will quickly replace your mouse. Sounds like a good deal to me as they have ALWAYS sent me a new mouse, never used/refurb. 3 year warranty as well is pretty good.

dormat029 02-21-2013 05:42 PM

This might be a dumb question but you can program this for any keys right?

Can this be used for programs other than games...if I want to program a button for the key "#" and "/" would that be possible with this?

Thanks for the help and will rep.

yes you can. the buttons can be completely configured in the software that you should install with the mouse.

I also experienced the "double-click" issue on my left click after 3 years of use, I couldn't go through the RMA process as I was missing that little info stub on the USB for some reason.

tcc9mpl 02-21-2013 08:08 PM

i've just now started to get the double-click problem with the right mouse button. logitech is shipping me a new one. this mouse is definitely awesome and worth it but you may come across problems like this in the future. the warranty is superb though, so I wouldn't worry too much.

nanikore 02-21-2013 09:08 PM

I actually like this more than the G9 since on the G9 it's so easy to accidentally click those resolution selection buttons :P

Is the cartridge that holds the weights supposed to come already in the mouse?

I got the little silver box with all the weights, but I don't see the cartridge anywhere...

Edit: I just read that Logitech not putting the cartridge in is a common occurrence. I sent an email to support.

i have the g9x and i think if you add too much weights to the mouse, it will get jammed/stuck.
