I've already used promo codes on Newegg deals in the past and they paid out the full value. The "not combinable with any other offer" is more than likely referring to rebate offers.

Here is an explanation of the RedMere technology:
LINK [redmere.com]

HDMI cables with RedMere typically go for a premium... even at places like Monoprice [monoprice.com].

Personally, I've never owned any ultra slim cables, so I guess I'll see if there's any true difference.

Someone on AVSForum described it like this:
"One of the detrimental things that happens to a signal as it travels down a cable is that the corners of the square wave get rounded off. What the Redmere chip on the receiving end does is to attempt to square up the waveform so that it looks as much like the original as possible. That doesn't fix everything detrimental that happends to the signal but helps to fix one. Because the chip is programmed for the particular cable by the manufacturer, it is more successful at it than add on equalizers. What it won't do is make a picture that doesn't have sparkles or worse better in any way."

Is this what SD has become?????

$3.60 and that's before you factor in postage and envelope plus gas to get to the post office

Ya the government comes to my house too, Mail man works for the government..
You can pay full price if you would like. Or go buy 6 cables for $5, I will make 3 bucks and use a dusty stamp i bought in 2010 and get a cable out of it.

Bought one Because its free, Not gonna be a money maker though as Newegg said this when entered Promo code, But free is free:)

Why do you need to pay for gas to get to the USPS? Just put your first class mail in your mail box and the mailman will collect them on a daily basis.

BTW, effective January 27, 2013, the price of a stamp increased to 46 cents.

And go ahead to do some research on what HDMI is, what RedMere is, how digital signals travel in copper conductors, cross-talks, EMI, signal regeneration,
how much a 10-ft RedMere HDMI cable costs and etc. Then please make some informative and instrumental comments here.

:shake:

Bought 4 stamp books, 80 Forever stamps, from Safeway last night then found the price increase.

poohbie 02-21-2013 02:00 AM

I like that it's RedMere...those cables are expensive on MonoPrice. The Cons are that it's generic (may be crappy quality despite RedMere chip present) and Newegg-sponsored rebates are very slow. With the 20% coupon overshadowing CA sales tax, I took the plunge.

That's a great deal on stamps.

Right now I am looking for deals on envelopes too. I remember I ever bought them at a rate of 1 case, 500 #10 envelopes per 99 cents. Let me search my -F-W- history. Here you go.

Sigh. Ok, so RedMere technology is a chip that's built into the cable that allows for less copper to be used in the cable itself by correcting for signal loss over long distances.

The whole goal of RedMere is to use less materials over long distances, and to make cables that are more easily routed. I was a size queen when it came to all my cables, but just read a review for once: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-3319...-hands-on/

I still won't pay extra for this technology, as I only really have short lengths, and I don't mind a bit of cable kinking when it comes to my $1.50, thick HDMI cables, but hey, since this is cheaper than even a plain HDMI cable...

Just want to note that TigerDirect has been very good for rebates after switching to 4myrebates. In the past about half year I've gotten countless rebates from TigerDirect without trouble, and more quickly than the other rebates.

Though as we all surely know from experience, NewEgg is better than TigerDirect overall. But TD really gets a much worse rap than they deserve.

IMO, cancelling orders is better than shipping incomplete orders or delaying orders indefinitely on backorder, which Frys has done to me several times. What's worse is it takes multiple calls to get a straight answer from Frys instead of "we don't know when we will get more stock" answers.

Tasso 02-21-2013 06:53 AM

I know that if you pay the whole order with a TD giftcard at TD, the order never goes through. Does paying with a newegg giftcard for the whole purchase cause any problems in getting the order complete? What about rebate? TIA

Flaky technology

No thanks. This is flaky technology to sell thinner cheaper cable that uses less copper.
I'll stick with standard cables that don't rely on a chip to "correct" the degraded signal caused by their narrow gauge wire.

This is technology to enable making thin HDMI cables that still work well. I don't know how that makes it flaky technology. And it currently costs more to have the chip, so that wouldn't make it cheaper. Sure, you can make a Redmere cable out of crappy wire just like you can a standard HDMI cable.

I got tired of thick gauge cables that put extra strain on connectors. I'd switch all of mine to Redmere if it weren't for the high cost.

Yes! I just ordered both at the same time.

The rebate offers are different and it asks for a "copy" or the receipt/packing slip. You can order both together and are good to go. Just make sure you send both rebates in separate envelopes.

Thanks, I added 4pts to your rep for answering that question. I was reading through both threads looking for the answer to that. After reading your post I ordered both plus the hard drive bracket. Since I have ShopRunner and use LOTs of these sorts of things I see no reason not to.

It's a digital signal...you can't get better quality than an HDMI cable that's functioning properly.

HDMI is a digital signal. 0 and 1's. No voltage = 0, high voltage = 1. So you can't really improve a digital signal.

You need to subscribe to their promotion emails. Log into your account, In left navigation bar, under category Options, there is a Subscriptions.

2) When a deal actually makes $3.60 AR: Wow, what a waste of time for 3 bucks.

Very good point.

Unfortunately that's not true. I it were true, any cable was able to carry unlimited data.

after you submit the rebate it will take 2-3 months to get it back.

More like 5 months for Newegg rebates. There's no reason it should take so long (exceeding their own stated timeline) except being customer-unfriendly to take advantage of the extra float.

that extra float in a high interest short term investment makes them some money off of the rebate money.

I submitted my rebate on Feb 22nd and tracking shows as "Your registration has been completed and we are waiting to receive the corresponding mail."

It's been almost near to 20days, and they did not receive my mail till now. What the f***.

Anyone knows how long does it take to show in their system. Do I need to call them, or just wait for few more days/weeks ??

bb182 03-13-2013 11:38 PM

You probably want to wait a bit longer. My min/max for them is 6 / 21 business days. With that said they haven't been as bad lately and mine (mailed same day as yours) was entered on 3/5.

Hellyea 05-15-2013 08:50 AM

mine shows mailed now.....just waiting on the envelope.
