I had been thinking on getting ME Trilogy for the longest and the only think holding me was that it does not activates on Steam. But looks like that will be the case with all the AAA title from EA. You don't at least for ME 1 & 2 I have them on Steam. Pretty sure if you register the key with steam it becomes a steam game. I have done it with bioshock 1 that I bought a legit copy with DVD and then I just used the serial # on steam and can download it off steam now.

As previous posts have stated, as long as a game is SteamPlay enabled, you only need to buy it once for any operating system, and you will be able to play it on any of the others it is available for. So after your GC and the code, you're paying $15 for BL2 for Windows? Slick.

People passing on fantastic games like the ME series because you have to install Origin is hilarious, because the software permanently fuses to your hardware right? Install it, spend 2 minutes making sure it doesnt start when your system boots and uninstall when you are done. I have about 50 games in my steam library and about 20 in Origin. Steam is obviously a better digital distribution system, but it works just fine if you pull your head out of your @ss.

I was just about to grab it and saw it requires Origin. I played 1 on xbox and actually have 2 for xbox but I'd rather play on PC. Ya... I guess I'll put up with Origin for just this one time.

Hi, I'm new to PC gaming, just made my first rig. I got into it because I like the idea of making my own stuff and because of what I read about Steam. I falsely assumed you could get all your games through Steam. So if it doesn't say "Steam account required" then do you just download it to your computer and then after you download it you're on your own?

How come I cant apply CAGROCKS? I want to get Dark Souls on the cheap. Im am SO freaking glad its on sale. Ive been obsessing about getting this game for WEEKS. If only more games I wanted were on sale like Anno 2070 Deep Ocean and Fallen Enchantress and Dishonored and...stuff...

For most cases, yes, you just download the game installer and installation files directly from Amazon, then run the included setup file to install the game onto your hard drive. Amazon is usually really good on letting you redownload games in case you need to reinstall them, or you can backup a copy of all the installation files.

Some games require other clients though, such as Battlefield 3 requires Origin.

In this case, you can copy the product key and paste it into the Origin client to activate and download the game, similar to how this is down with Steam games.

That is true for all games except one (afaik): COD black ops. It has a separate steam entry [steampowered.com] for windows and mac, and you must buy each one that you want.
So if you buy the cheaper Mac version on amazon for $17.50, I'm 99.9% sure you won't get the windows version.

Might be hocus-pocus, but I don't like it because of the reports on how intrusive it was when it first came out. I haven't research on how it is nowadays, but I have no reason to believe EA is going to pull back. Origin was scanning the files on some guy's hard-drive. They were personal files that had nothing to do with the game. It might've had to do with anti-cheats or something, but no thanks. Also, EA is at the forefront of the DRM war.

A lot of people don't like Origin because the bad reputation of EA and privacy concerns http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts...52463.page or just having to use another client in addition to Steam.

Personally, I haven't had any problems with it. In some cases, I think it is better because it doesn't need to run in the background as a separate process for some older games, as opposed to Steam games, which always need Steam running in the background.

I simply don't want to have to give my personal information/credit card to every company that gets greedy with their game distribution. Steam, Origin, Ubisoft, Impulse, GFWL etc..etc. Every one is another chance at being hacked and having your information stolen *just to play games you legally purchased*. Not to mention I don't want 15 processes like Punkbuster, scanners, making my browser open to malware (ahem, Ubisoft) etc installed on my machine.

So yeah, my EA purchases stopped with ME2.

Damn pc digital copies going so cheap, wish most of these games were well optimized for pc , not just bad ports.

Honestly I would look for a torrent as the game just uses a large .dat file for most of the content. The game is pretty much useless without a login/account so I wouldn't feel bad about using torrent to get the game files. Then you can probably repair any files that don't match up with the current version via the launcher.

The best torrent is 13gb and it does not download the updates. The real game is around 25 gb.

From what I remember no. Check gametracker or some other site that lists servers and see. I'm pretty sure it's rather dead nowadays. Too bad as it it wasn't a bad game but Activision and EA love dividing up their player base until some of their games end up dead.

AFAIK there's no other way to get the ME series on pc. Besides, origin isn't that bad. Even steam had issues when it started out.

ME 1 + 2 are available on Steam, 3 might be added at some point. But $18 for the whole shebang is freaking worth it. Personally, I'm holding out until the GOTY for ME3. Origin really isn't that bad at all -- you can install the games exactly where you want, it doesn't open with windows, and it includes the most important features you get from Steam: auto-patching and built-in cloud saves.

Although I would prefer to just use one service for everything for simplicity, the benefit of Origin to the consumer is that it's yet another competitor in the PC digital download marketplace, and the fierce competition in that space is the reason we've been regularly getting great deals on games for the past year.

Really? You won't get one of the best RPG series in gaming history because of Origin? I'm sorry but that just seems childish. I've been using origin for a few years now and I can honestly say I see little difference between it and Steam. I've never had any issues whatsoever and have poured tons of time into BF3 and the ME series. Not to mention the Sims and soon to be Sim City.

Here's Your Confirmation: It's definitely ONE GAME with the code per Amazon account.

However, in case some of you don't know this, if you have 2 Amazon accounts(like I do) you can use the code TWICE.
This is just OK with most of these games that are Amazon downloads but is Excellent when the games are Steam activated because you can then just take both keys and apply them to your one Steam account.

I really enjoyed Singularity despite the low review's for what it's worth.

First off, I can play ME3 on a console. Second off, I am doing it on principle. Ever heard the term "give an inch, they take a yard?" Well, that applies here. Sometimes you have to stop something before it gets to the "how did I end up so deep in this hole" part.

How is Origin anymore invasive than Steam? I have both, use both, and find them both pretty similar. If anything, I'm sick of Steam's pop-up advertisements when I run Steam. Drives me bonkers. THAT'S invasive.

To all those confused or negative about Origin take this from a person who was thoroughly pissed when all the BF3 announcements came through. Origin ISNT that bad. It isnt that bad at all. The platform works just like Steam with a Friends List, Library, and Store. You're also giving the capability to unlock games through product codes and add them to your library.

Also neat thing you can do is add EA games you have on Steam (sans BF BC2) to the EA client. BF3 and ME3 work flawlessly with the client and while EA is a company that I see as slowly losing its way in terms of its games - the client is nothing to worry about. It isnt heavy and launching a game is quick and easy. If there were one reason to have games in two places its to spread out your library and not have everything in one place. You never know when one client is going to have issues so its nice to be able to go to another if the other is down.

Now, for those wondering if the Mass Effect Series is worth it - the short and definite answer is yes. You get all the games in the trilogy pack AND none of the DLC matters. Some of the DLCs for ME3 give extra background story but you can youtube that shit.

Mass Effect 3 was a HELL of a ride and I loved it from beginning to end. You also get limited multiplayer features and all THOSE updates are free. The game itself has drama, action and great gameplay. They refined the game pretty well after the less than stellar outing that was Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 2 had a good story but in the end ME1 and ME3 were the best (to me at least). Go ahead and get it - especially if you have a chance to use the coupon.

You're in for a horrible let down. AC3 has more novelty than substance and boring as hell and the ending was terrible.

Reveleations was okay, but brotherhood is better imo.

ME3 is only available via Origin, so there's no avoiding it. It's annoying to have another store client running, but it's not terrible or anything like that.

I think the ME games are great. ME1 has a good story and a great feeling of discovery and mystery; ME2 has great gameplay, writing, and humour, and ME3 has the best gameplay and the multiplayer is surprisingly fun - coming from someone who rarely plays multiplayer games - because it's all about teamwork and cooperation rather than individual scoring.

They've yet to put out a GOTY for ME2, so you may be waiting a long time. That said, I feel like all the ME3 DLC can be easily skipped without missing anything. And while Activision is trying to milk us with CODBLOP2's "Season Pass" at $50, I was pleasantly surprised that Bioware/EA made ME3's multiplayer DLC free.

If anyone has any of those $10 off software coupons they aren't going to use I could really use it. It's not good on games, but there are a few software purchases I need to make.

Short answer: The PC versions are better across the board.

All the versions look better and run better on PC. ME1 is much better since the Xbox version is plagued by very long loading times (and other issues) which don't exist on the PC. ME2 and 3 also load much faster, and play flawlessly on my 6 year old PC (My Specs: Core 2 Duo 2.9Ghz, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800 for ME1+2, GTX 470 for ME3).

For ME3 multiplayer, the PC player base is very active. The PC version additionally gives you the option of being able to set the FoV higher than the console default, which looks better on a PC screen and shows more of the level, and to separate out the omnikey (Action/Dodge/Sprint) such that you can use one button for Action and another for Dodge/Sprint (or even one button for each) which makes it so that you won't accidentally go into cover when trying to revive someone. There are a couple of skill upgrades that are bugged on PC, but as long as you know to avoid them it's fine.

I prefer mouse + keyboard for all shooters, this one included, but you can still play it with a gamepad on PC if that's your thing.

The only DLC I feel is worth it is Lair of the Shadow Broker for ME2 - $10. Everything else you can skip without feeling like you're missing anything.

I was as annoyed at having to get Origin as you were, but realistically it's not a problem. You don't have to register your credit card with Origin, just buy the game on Amazon and put in the key. And the Origin client doesn't start with Windows, it launches when you run the game, and you can exit out of it afterwards if you want to. The client isn't as slick or intuitive to use as Steam, but after finally getting it I feel like I was hot and bothered for nothing.

What games are you looking at that are bad ports? Dark Souls is the only one I can think of, and there's a fan patch for that to fix the resolution.

Well that's what people were saying about ME2 before it came out on Steam. There is still a possibility that it will come out on Steam. But I agree that one should not avoid playing this freaking amazing game (ME3) just because of it's DRM. :drool:

That's true, but I think that EA is just chomping at the bit to release a "Mass Effect Complete" or something along those lines once all of the DLC for ME3 has been out for a while. I think it will happen by fall or around the time that they announce the next game in the series.

I'm not exactly a fan of the concept of Steam anyway - but steam has been great for the indy gaming community, and they have some pretty mind boggling deals. Also, I am a huge fan of Valve. I like their games, and how they manage their games. Team Fortress 2 for instance was supported for YEARS without them making much of a profit off of it. Then they opened their store for it and the players repaid them (albeit, people with spending problems too.)

I'm not going to say Valve was the first, because I don't feel like doing the research, but they were certainly the first to have something like this be so successful. It soon became a way to chat with friends and find out where they were playing. Then EA comes along with basically a clone of steam and tries to convince me that I need it.

It will be a terrible trend when every company makes their own "Steam," so you have to have 8 of those programs to play 8 of your games.

Lastly, all of that hubbub about Origin scanning files it had no right touching was a pretty bitter way to start off with me.

I'm glad you're taking a stand for what I see is a consumer rights issue. I agree that having a download client from every major publisher, each with their own exclusives, is ridiculous. I don't think the market will sustain it, as we're seeing Origin merging with the Ubisoft store, but the fewer client exclusives there are the better it is for the consumer.

That said, buying ME3 on PS3 instead isn't the solution. Saying "I don't like the way you're treating PC gamers, so instead I'm going to buy your games on consoles and give you even more money" is not going to get them to change their ways. If anything, it would make them care less about PC gamers. Writing to EA telling them that you're upset with what they're doing, and it's going to cost them sales until they change their practices, could potentially cause some change.

You may be right with that. From what I've heard about the PS4, we're gonna have a DRM fest, and it will be pretty much like the PC. In all honesty, I probably will not buy ME3 for some time; I haven't even played the first two in the franchise. I have the first two on steam I think. By that time I will just buy a used copy to play the single player story. This will indeed cut into their profits. I do not wish to miss one of the best games out there if I can help it without compromising myself - and feel that my way work well.

And I believe it will help whereas they will see that Origin isn't doing as well as they hope, and perhaps realizing they will get a lot more sales on the PC without it.

it's all hate on the ending. Bioware released an extended cut to help clarify things which helped. I do think the ending could and should have been better, but overall the game was great. I played ME1 on PC and 2+3 on Xbox. ME2 is probably my favorite but I highly recommend playing them all. The story and characters are simply awesome.

As others have said about Origin, it really isn't that bad... I'm not a big fan of EA but they publish some great games. And even Steam sucked when it first came out. There are many things that could be better but overall it's fine... I don't see why people say it's invasive and all that nonsense... it runs fine for me.

FYI, I took the liberty of sorting the OP alphabetically by developer... groups the DLC and sequels together, mostly. Particularly less of a headache to read teh Paradox and Square Enix sections, IMO. xanchui, if you want to copy this sorting to the OP, let me know and I can edit down this long post.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it already in the thread, but the code works with the digital download of Crysis 3 too.

Beyond Good and Evil for $3? That's a great price for a gem of a game. It's not the best port, but it still looks great, and the game is worth it.

I fear that's where things are going. It's already partially like that on consoles. If PlayStation Network is down for maintenance, I can't access Hulu Plus. And of course you can't access PSN without having the latest console update, and thus accepting whatever ToC they chose to give you. Since watching Hulu Plus / Netflix requires Xbox Live, I'm sure it's the same way on Xbox.

Console exclusives are already annoying, but I think we're going to start seeing more store exclusives. And I don't mean something like ME3 or Civ 5 which requires Origin or Steam - I mean games that you can only buy through Origin or PSN or Xbox Live, thus cutting out the middleman entirely.

Like someone else said, they're probably from people who hated the ending. Since then, they've released an Extended Cut of the ending, which I think fills it out nicely.

I recently replayed the entire series with all the DLC (story DLC not the extra weapons or whatever). and I'd say 3 is the best. It has the best combination of story and gameplay in my opinion. Do you need all the extra DLC? Not really, but they do add to the ME universe, some more so than others. Lair of the Shadow Broker (ME2) is pretty meaty, and both From Ashes and Leviathan (ME3), are fairly important as far as background goes. Yes, you could just youtube all the important parts, but that takes you out of the world and you'd probably lose part of the experience. But if you don't want to buy all it it's a decent alternative. I will say that playing the games with all the DLC already installed made the less interesting ones that much more palatable. I had played Omega (ME3) as a stand-alone and I wasn't impressed at all, but when I played it within my playthrough, in context, it was a much more enjoyable experience.

As for Origin, like many others here, I initially balked at the idea when it was forced on us with BF3. Since then, it's gone through a few changes, and honestly, it's fine now. I use both Origin and Steam and they're pretty much the same as far as I'm concerned.

whichever one you prefer honestly. i played 1 on PC and 2+3 on xbox. i'd say they're better in all respects on PC, i just wanted achievements

If you're looking for more opinions, I never played the Xbox version, but I know a few who did, and apparently there were some serious issues with ME1 (texture pop-in for example), which were apparently fixed on PC. I can't say that I remember any major technical glitches myself on PC. The worst I got was I got stuck in walls twice, but a quick reload fixed that.

I have a fairly decent rig (2500k/7970GHz), so it runs quite well. ME3 never crashed on either of my playthroughs for what it's worth, and I didn't have any other sort of technical issues. There are some issues with the game itself (characters appearing out of frame for example), but I'm fairly sure that's just the way the game is. I think there were issues on launch, but there have been a few patches since then so maybe they've been addressed? As for any issues with multiplayer, I have no idea since I've never played the multiplayer. O_o
