I just got this email. I know AR this is a great deal, but I'm on the fence about it. Worth it to pull the trigger?

mikesms 02-21-2013 02:44 AM

Cannot find any information on the fan noise level of the card, doubt

mikesms 02-21-2013 03:16 AM

Seems like a pretty decent review IMO.. If anything, Im more worried about the 700 series coming up in March and the potential price drop.

Exactly what I'm concerned about.. I'm hoping someone who is more keen on the price drops vs releases cards are compared to other products. Most products experience immediate price drops, not sure about vid cards though... 560 Ti is still about $200+ :P

Thought the 700 series wasn't coming out this year.

Right, coming from spcr, they really sometimes have a bionic ear about things. I have used this card and it works great. Not too noisy for the average/most people at all.

mozbrooklyn 02-21-2013 06:57 AM

Pulled the trigger. Thanks OP

brownnote 02-21-2013 07:52 AM

Good card at a great price. Really decent even without the rebate IMO.

I think I've read in a couple of places that it has been pushed back to 4th Quarter 2013.

You could always get the upcoming Nividia GTX Titan [pcmag.com] though. :)

xie 02-21-2013 08:54 AM

Even when the new ones come out, it's usually a paper launch, only the highest end products. It'll be months before the price drops.

Spend $20 now if this is the card you want and enjoy it. It's just going to get "slower" and less new as time goes on. I just put a very similar card (got it for $100) in my system and its absolutely great at 1080p.

DaVeYbRaT 02-21-2013 09:26 AM

The only next-gen card Nvidia is releasing soon it the Titan $999.00 fastest single-gpu card.

Don't expect to see anything in the consumer level until maybe 4th Quarter or later.

jttx 02-21-2013 09:35 AM

Is only 1gb so is a so-so deal i'm wait for the 2gb

I have been watching these for awhile... 6 months, maybe. This is a pretty solidly good price, if not an excellent one. My budget is $90-$120 for a video card, and I am pulling the trigger on this. I doubt I will regret it.

I have an old HD Radeon 3870. Will there be much difference between my card and this one?

Yes, it is six tiers above your current card: http://www.tomshardware.com/revie...107-7.html. Even if you have an older core 2 duo or core 2 quad, you should see a difference in performance: http://hothardware.com/Reviews/GP...rd/?page=5.

MonkeyChops 02-21-2013 11:07 AM

This will work with the upcoming Nvidia Shield. Has to be a 650 or higher. I'm very tempted to pull the trigger.

Thanks for the reply. Reps added.
I already have a new CPU i7 3770 (bought last year when I made a new rig) but kept the older GPU (cash constraints). So, I don't think I will be CPU limited.

Having been out of touch with GPU's for a while, I don't really know how they fare against each other, so can you comment on the accuracy of those levels in the tomshardware link that you gave me.

Thanks again..

Those different tiers from Tom's are used to show AMD and nVidia cards that are roughly equivalent in performance. The highest tier on the top of the chart will give you the highest performance. It doesn't show how much better the performance gain is between each tier though. With your i7 3770, you shouldn't be bottlenecked by the 650 TI. However, you should look at benchmarks of the 650 TI on the games you play and the resolution you use to ultimately make your decision.

If you think that anything other than the 780/790 will drop before summer, you are mistaken

Destoration 02-21-2013 11:59 AM

I have a msi gtx 650 in my brothers computer and it works great. I got it during last years BF deal for $75- after rebate. If you're going to spend $100- on a card I'd recommend a 560ti. They can be had on ebay for nothing.
