Good price - sent to Amazon for price match.

mrdavidf 02-24-2013 07:50 AM

500 for $280 better :P

MMOBLEY 02-24-2013 08:04 AM

Good deal.

mantis3 02-24-2013 08:12 AM

Glad this is back -- now I'm just a trip away from MC to finish my build. :woot:

edit: how do I report the price to Amazon? All that link brings me to is the product page. Also what are the chances Amazon price matches? I have some GC leftover from the $50 off $100 BB deal that I would love to use!

They're Amazon gift cards :(

I see MacMall has this for $150 and that you can pay via Amazon, wonder if this means I can use GC.

i have a bunch of steam games which are large in storage, do you all just use this drive for like your main apps and boot drive?

will the computer still be fast if i boot up the games from storage device instead of directly from this SSD

like the steam client installed on C: but game data on D:

or do i just get the larger ssd drive like 500gb

SSD will only affect the speed of things that are actually on the drive; it's very common for users to install their boot (along with other things that are frequently accessed or have abnormal load times) and then dump everything else on a traditional hard drive. What, exactly, you need to put onto an SSD is what will determine the size of the drive you look into.

This isn't the 840 Pro drive. I'm glad I jumped on the Crucial M4 256 GB deal for the same price.

It's better to spend less money when you don't need more than 250 GB.

KMan 02-24-2013 08:50 AM

How much faster can one expect the speedier (and more expensive at around $230) Pro version of this drive to make one's system in real-world situations, if one puts one's OS, apps and one's most frequently accessed data on the SSD?

I realize that this depends a lot on what one uses one's system for, so let's say that one doesn't do much if any gaming, or any specialized data crunching such as video or photo processing, but mainly uses it for Office apps, browsing, HTPC, light programming and db development, etc? Is the extra $80 or so to get the Pro version mostly wasted?

I'm inclined to agree as I don't see much real use for that extra 250GB for most people these days. Most people can probably easily fit their OS, apps and most frequently accessed data on a 250GB SSD, with the rest of their data either not really needing or benefiting much from SSD speeds, or being way too big to fit on the fairly puny extra 250GB that a 500GB drive could offer. So I'm not sure what it would really be useful for, for most people at least (certainly there are some who do need that extra 250GB).

In my case, I can fit my OS, apps and frequently-accessed data on a 250GB SSD, with plenty of spare room left over for growth and redundancy, with the rest of my multi-TB data (almost entirely video) neither needing the speed of an SSD, nor being able to fit on one.

why? For the same price MLC vs TLC you'd go for this one instead?

What is Mlc and tlc?
Edit : I see what you mean. Samsung is TLC and Crucial M4 is mLC which is better. But I have both drives. I don't know why samsung is faster.

How quickly does B&H ship out? If they are marginally faster than Amazon I'll purchase from them.

reported both this and the macmall one to amazon. hopefully it goes through soon
