How is retail a slick deal? You can find these in stock at the same price in any Staples.

I have to disagree....retail price +TAX definately makes this slick. I think you forgot to take into account tax.

Office Depot and Staples both charge tax, no difference between the two.

Dual core of unknown type + 1024 x 600 for only $30 less than the Nexus, good luck with that HP. All the press photos so far make it look like TN panel too, awful.

this will use much cheaper components than the nexus 7, after all HP is trying to gain profits from the hardware. The nexus 7 on the other hand, is subsidized by google since they are trying to gain market share and profit from the play store, so they are selling the nexus 7 near or below the cost of production.

Damnit! When will they learn? In-stock does not equal 'ne' a deal, let alone a hot deal. :thumbdow:

I'm happy for OP because I had JUST ordered this from Google Play and it was same price with tax but $13 for shipping - so saved my shipping and I had it same day for my moms bday gift. The Nexus freakin' rocks especially compared to the Kindle Fire HD (I returned that quick, just a terrible experience overall) Thanks OP.

I MUST ADD: I get back from the in-store pickup trip (there were only 2 left and all other stores within 20 miles were sold out in LA) and hand it to my mom, she has a tough time opening it, and I do too (thinking it's a crazy anti-tamper pack job) and then finally the box opens and it's a god damn plastic bag wrapped in white duck tape filled with old rusty wrenches!!!! unreal, can't believe this is happening to me but a QUICK trip back to the store and the manager clears it up and confesses she remembers a suspicious return where they couldn't open the box to confirm all was well. Jesus. Oh well, shit happens but that was unexpected! Anyway, thanks for the post, saved my 13 bucks and a couple days of waiting.
