Dang, that thing is huge! Probably won't fit in my pocket with the case it comes with.

leighleigh 02-26-2013 08:10 AM

It is not big. Just to let you know test strips are very reasonable when purchased on ebay. 50 cents a piece on amazon.

Nikola-Tesla 02-26-2013 12:36 PM

Got one for my dad. Thanks OP!

For those of you looking for a good/affordable meter, look into GE (general electric) brand meter and strips. At my pharmacy I sell the meter for $8.50 and 50 strips run about $18. The GE meter is also top of the mark in terms of accuracy, the only one that can compete with them is One Touch when it comes to test accuracy.

Got one for my dad. He just started taking insulin shots so this will help out.

You don't have to tell me, my friend. I know what your mother loves.

Also, the good thing about these testing strips is that they aren't hard-coded with a use by date, so you don't have to use them within a month or two. Some of the testing strips still do this. I think Bayer gives you a few years to use them. Better to have more time than less.

That's what your mother loves, I suspect.

kalrith 02-26-2013 02:00 PM

I read "meter" and "powerful" and thought it was some sort of electric power meter :)

Windows7User 02-26-2013 02:01 PM

I'm so tempted bc its free, but ill pass i know some ppl really do need them.

Guilty as well.

maciver6969 02-26-2013 02:30 PM

I am a really low grade diabetic. I normally can treat it with what I eat and insulin 2 or 3 times a month. Would this be better than the pos I got 5 or so years ago? The strips are $20 a box and have a time limit on them...

vig13 02-26-2013 03:26 PM

2 quick points:
Blood Glucose Meters in general are ALWAYS No Charge from your family physician's office. They have reps that bring them Free Samples all the time.

The Contour Next EZ meter is the most accurate meter on the market right now, there are clinical studies that show this to be true, not just hearsay from someone. There is not an easier meter to use either, and the strip prices are lower than One Touch Ultra, Accucheck, or Freestyle meters at retail.

lordseiya 02-26-2013 03:42 PM

thnxs, my doctor told me that my suggar levels where high and he recomended to do a blood test every 2 weeks with a diet. With this i dont have to go and get my blood drawn. Needles makes me shiver :S

common_anomaly 02-26-2013 04:32 PM

thanks OP, got one for my boyfriend who is a type 1 insulin dependent diabetic, whom also happens to be very forgetful. this extra meter will come in really handy

ZacharyA 02-26-2013 04:42 PM

Thanks mate, got one for my family

You do know that this meter will require you to prick yourself with a needle to draw blood right?

bluenagel_2304 02-26-2013 04:43 PM

No HDMI? No thanks, I'll pass.
jk, I ordered one for my dad who is having diabetes for 2 years. This is going to be his first meter.

richark1 02-26-2013 04:45 PM

I've signed my father for these promotions through Bayer before and never received anything. Has anybody actually received their meter?

poppyfire 02-26-2013 05:20 PM

No more gushing pricks!

Yes, I don't own this meter but I own another Bayer meter that uses the same strips. I've also researched this meter and while it is basic, it is consistent. What I like about the strips besides the length of time you can keep them (other meters require you to put in a coded strip that ties it to the strips in that package, requiring you to use them immediately) and they require much less blood.

If you have an older meter, when you do your finger prick and squeeze, you'll find these strips require about 25% the blood that the older ones do. So a light squeeze on your finger, and you're good. No more gushing finger pricks you have to hold a cotton ball on for five minutes because you didn't want to ruin an expensive testing strip.

ansh25 02-26-2013 05:29 PM

Thanks OP got one for my dad

tarams 02-26-2013 07:26 PM

Thank you, I ordered one (my cat is diabetic & is testing & shot 2xs a day). For test strips, you can't beat Reli on @ Walmart 50 for $9.

gottum_m 02-26-2013 07:34 PM

Looks like they blocked it now.

vliz 02-26-2013 08:31 PM

Thanks OP! Got 1..
The last promotion from Bayer never came...

atari 02-26-2013 08:44 PM

anyone know if the strips are interchangeable with different meters? I think I got the contour USB.

bsulistioadi 02-26-2013 10:47 PM

I don't need this and will never want to be the one needing this.
But still rep'd for this info

Studly 02-27-2013 03:14 PM

Even with a free meter, always take into account the cost of the test strips. It's kind of like the printer companies almost giving away inkjet printers so you'll buy years of their expensive ink cartridges.

I like my ReliOn Confirm meter, which is about $15 at Walmart. But more importantly, you only pay about $20 for 50 strips ($0.40 each) at Walmart. Seems accurate, consistent and also requires only a tiny drop of blood.
