Muse album review: The first 3 songs are amazing...the rest of the album is not my cup of tea. Madness just blows my mind.

Awesome! Thanks.

xxxHolic 02-25-2013 10:02 PM

Very nice, in for two -- although slightly annoying that I overpayed for The Heist just a few days back... :P
Either way, thanks a lot OP, thumbs up and reps coming your way.

If we are just throwing purely subjective opinions around for the hell of it then I must disagree. If you started listening to Muse at Black Holes and Revelations and your favorite track on the album was Supermassive Black Hole then you probably love Madness and not much else of the album. However, if you like all of Muse's stuff since the beginning then you might appreciate the fact that their stuff is progressive over the years and they are in to trying new stuff. There is still a message behind the music that gives it a deeper meaning than most of the crap being produced today.

I have every muse album but one, and liked pretty much ALL their stuff......until this album.

This was a clear departure from the "muse sound" and many many many muse fans don't like the new album.

I understand them not wanting to make the same album over and over, but when you significantly change the sound there is going to be a lot of people that just don't care for it.

Have you checked it out? Most people (read: white, middle class) feel like they can relate to Macklemore and the content of his music. Also, in my opinion, Ryan Lewis is an awesome producer. I think it's pretty cool that an independent release has gained so much traction as well.

Anyway, I grabbed The Heist with some MP3 credit I had leftover. Thanks for the heads up OP!

wvuwhat 02-26-2013 02:05 AM

I bought Macklemore or however you spell it. I never knew what I was listening to when I was in the club, this was it.

Actually a pretty good album, definitely worth 1.99.

If you buy any app in Amazon Android appstore you can get $1 MP3 credit in you account towards Amazon MP3 purchase.

The Lone Bellow is amazing. Breakout artist of the year anyone?

Definitely for fans of The Civil Wars, as they recently toured with them.

CBBlaker 02-26-2013 05:51 AM

For two bucks, I think giving "The Lone Bellow" a try can't hurt.

... or just supporting good music. Go get this album, at $4 or $2. Good stuff. It's worth it for "Same Love" even if you're burned out on Thrift Shop because your 4-year-old has played the clean version 87 times in the last few days, and has hilariously incorporated "This is *looking* awesome" into his vocabulary.

TonyTouch 02-26-2013 08:04 AM

In for The Heist. I'll be honest- I don't know anything about them and thought they would be a one-hit wonder. But the reviews are stellar.

Just because you paid more doesn't mean the artist gets more money. The discount price is subsidized by Amazon. The artist get paid the same even if you paid full price for the album.

Grabbed Macklemore, Bruno Mars, The Lone Bellow and Sinatra so far. Still deciding if I like Passion Pit's album enough to buy that as well (been sampling on Spotify).

Macklemore's album is good! Anyone else notice you get the video for Thrift Shop free with this? :D

gunslingerfry 02-26-2013 02:08 PM

Passion Pit & Muse are awesome! Thanks, I was looking for some new music!

ggrrowler 02-26-2013 04:19 PM

Just dropped 10 bucks... totally worth it... Must say I was surprised by the Lone Bellow... kept listening to the samples and pulled the trigger on it... TY!!!

Hyalos 02-26-2013 04:46 PM

Great deal. Got Bruno Mars and Train.

virtuzoso 02-26-2013 04:49 PM

I dont even like hip hop, but The Heist is pretty damn good. I mean, I only skip one or two songs, the rest is pure genius. Macklemore is so damn talented, and without all the negativity and false bravado that usually comes with that territory and Ryan Lewis is one awesome producer, it really shows through. Such a unique and genuine sound

Mcdrew88 02-26-2013 04:50 PM

These sales always tempt me. And then I remember that I pay for Spotify monthly. I might not own the music, but it's worth it to me. If every album were $2 then I'd only have to listen to 5 new albums a month to equal this deal. I guess these Amazon MP3 deals are more for people who don't listen to that much music or aren't comfortable renting their music collection.

amazingtrojan 02-26-2013 06:55 PM

Bruno Mars is worth every penny!

Or who prefer/have to use a standalone MP3 player, car radio, or other forms of listening to music rather than stream it.

I have Spotify but no way to hook my phone up to my car stereo, so I buy MP3s for the car. I listen to my purchased MP3s every day in the car, and Spotify all day at my work computer

Ever try offline mode? You can make playlists available offline. I have a couple thousand songs downloaded between my Nexus 4 and iPod on Spotify. I used to download songs on Spotify at home to listen to at work. Now we're at a new building where the firewall doesn't block Spotify, so I've just been using my PC. I can't really tell from your post if you pay for Spotify premium, but if you do, you should be aware of the offline feature.

Now that won't help you for your car unless you invest in a Bluetooth receiver, auxiliary cable, FM converter, etc. None of which are very expensive. I guess you must be burning MP3 CDs?

I have over 17,000 songs uploaded to google music and I purchased 3 albums from amazon today. My wife's car has a USB port and Bluetooth... my car does not so I need to be able to burn some .mp3's to a CD... and in her car I stream the music from bluetooth/USB...

For $2 an album you really can't go wrong..

I'm curious as to how many of those 17,000 songs you paid for. :) Not to assume, and I don't have anything against the free sharing of music. Google Music somehow found and auto-synced around 5000 of my MP3s, which we'll just say came from friends. Nowadays I mostly use Spotify. I actually have 30 or so Amazon MP3 albums, but most of those were free or paid for with credits.

$2 an album is an awesome deal, but makes no sense for me. With the amount of music I listen to on Spotify, it breaks down to much, much less than $2 an album. For example: your 17,000 songs is around 1200 albums, give or take a couple hundred. 1200 albums at $2 a pop is $2400, or 20 years of Spotify at the current monthly rate. Which will only increase, but I'm just putting it into perspective.

Let me also say that I do know that Spotify basically has me by the nuts, and can raise their prices at any time. I really don't know what I would do then, because I don't think anything over $10 a month would be a fair price. I guess I would then come crying back here that I didn't buy more music from Amazon.

rcs1 02-26-2013 08:44 PM

Don't make the same mistake with The Heist that I did. Amazon in their infinite wisdom has both the regular and the deluxe version for $1.99. The regular version has 15 songs, the deluxe has 18. In the amazon mp3 app on my phone it is not clear that there is a difference. I am a bit annoyed frankly.

Probably the file names. On each track, the name's prefix is [The Frank Sinatra Collection] [1966 Live At The Sands Album Version].

So one track's full name would I think be..

One For My Baby [And One More For The Road] [The Frank Sinatra Collection] [1966 Live At The Sands Album Version].mp3

Could be issues with that. What operating system are you using? I downloaded mine just fine on Win7 64.

XP. I figured the file names were the issue but not sure how to fix it other than to download another way and rename.
