Yea, usually each series do have some story twined in together but can be played separately and enjoy the game to the fullest

You get a more indepth story on the characters background, which might lead to more enjoyment, but as far as the story goes, each game stands on its own.

Yes, the Uncharted series is pretty much the equivalent of a mindless summer action movie. Lots of explosions and car chases and a pretty hackneyed story. The most interesting thing I took away from the story is how nonchalant the protagonist is about viciously killing thousands of goons throughout his adventure. Many of those guys were just trying to support their families!

jwoody89 02-26-2013 06:24 AM

Heavy Rain and Mortal Kombat are both well worth the $16. Yakuza is more fun than given credit for, not bad at $13.

No they don't. Brand new prices for Drake's Deception are around $20+--same with GT5XL. I didn't bother checking the rest, but they're likely comparable. Even if you're buying used, the price will be about the same as you're paying here.

THIS! I just started playing Uncharted (started with #1) and I thought I was getting an Indiana Jones / puzzle / interesting game.... and what I got was Gears of War with the occasional jumping/climbing minigame and snarky / sarcastic commentary. Except the shooting mechanics are much, much worse than GOW, you have to either shoot the baddies in the face (not always easy when 10+ are shooting at you at the same time) or you have to unload a whole clip into them, and ammo is scarce. In #1 at least, the 2 most common weapons; the mini-uzi and the AK-47 are just useless more than 10 feet away from your target. I pretty much stick to the pistols to get any kind of range at all.

I was just thinking last night.... I am halfway or so through the first game and how many hundreds of random bad guys has he killed? Drake is a serial killer.

Edit - oh and I paid $15 for a used Uncharted 3, so $13 for a new copy is pretty slick. TU

I looked at sold items for Uncharted 3. Looks like you can save a couple bucks for current price. Gran Turismo xl 5 runs about 8-10 bucks. Rest are definitely cheaper on eBay.

The real question is how long you're willing to wait. If you really want the GOYE right now, you're going to pay around $25 new.

elwood2 02-26-2013 07:43 AM

I was going to get GT3 and Uncharted 3 but it looks like UC3 is OOS now! :(

investor 27 02-26-2013 07:47 AM

What? There's ton of fun to be had in the multi-player. But don't just take my word for it, there's always plenty of people playing that game online now even with games like Black Ops 2 that was just released 3 months ago.

Wow, seriously some people on here should just stop posting. These are awesome prices for new copies of some really good games and cheaper than Amazon themselves or what you can generally find on eBay for new or even used copies. Newegg is an awesome place to buy PS3 games and I've bought a bunch from them recently. Here are the notable games:

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception $13 (Bought! Thanks!)
Yakuza Dead Souls $13 (Already own).
Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition $14 (Already own).
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition $15 (Used to own physical copy but now have digital download being a PS+ member).
Heavy Rain: Director's Cut $16 (Already own).
Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition $16 (Still debating but good price).

eduardmc 02-26-2013 07:55 AM

GT5 and heavy rain. finished uncharted 3. heavy rain is one hell of a game, never got to finish it but the few hours i played i was amaze. it is a high production games. GT5 just bought it cause i know they spend like 20 years making this games, so at least it must have something.

rockmo 02-26-2013 07:55 AM

Snoozed I loozed on Uncharted 3. Oh well, I need to open and play about 10 games I already own anyway. Just got a new 50" Panny LED so hopefully that coaxes me along a bit back into my PS3.

myghty 02-26-2013 07:58 AM

In for GT5 & Heavy Rain. Thanks OP!

minli 02-26-2013 07:59 AM

OOS for uncharted 3 :(

aznnp77 02-26-2013 08:06 AM

Very tempting, but I'm gonna pass on video games. I always buy them and never end up playing any of them.

Would be interested in Mortal Kombat, I think I would like to remember it the way it was for Super Nintendo, the good times.

I bought Uncharted 2 for $15 last year and realized within 30 minutes of playing that I'm really not into RPGs. I thought a game that took days to weeks to beat would peak my interest and keep me involved, but way too much strategy going on and I just wasn't feeling it. I still have Mass Effect 2 in it's shrinkwrap.

EDIT: OKAY Uncharted 2 isn't an RPG, I GET IT. I don't need 3 people to tell me this.

You consider Uncharted 2 a RPG? That would be something like the Final Fantasy series. The Uncharted series is more of an action/adventure game from what I've played.

aznnp77 02-26-2013 08:15 AM

Okay, nevermind then. I like RPGs, well I used to at least. I liked Final Fantasy 7, even if it took me 92 hours to beat.

Perhaps it's just my general disinterest in video games. It's always fun to break out the classics every now and then like Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat 1-3, Tekken (up to tag).

Just reading this paragraph makes my brain bleed. The correct word usage here is PIQUE--your interest was not piqued. And a shooter/action/adventure game is an RPG just because it has a few puzzle elements? Oh dear.

It depends. This is $13. GOTY Edition is likely $30-$40 if there is one. Second, if you can wait for that long, then you might as well wait for the GOTY Edition to go on sale after it is released. I think the GOTY Edition adds a couple of skins and extras for your PS3, and a couple of levels for your multiplayer. However, the single player portion remains the same. I don't do multiplayer so it doesn't matter to me. If multiplayer is important to you and if there is still a community when you finally get the GOTY Edition and wait for it to go on sale, then you should wait. Otherwise, buy this game and save your money to buy other games. That is just my 2 cents.

You are right about that, they really screwed up the multiplayer in U3, after having Game of the Year with Uncharted 2 and one of the best 3rd person Mutiplayers, hopefully Uncharted 4 will go back to U2 gameplay.

But I smell bigger price drops on all PS3 games throughout this year.

got GT5

cracovian 02-26-2013 09:15 AM

I had GT5 in my cart but then ended up ordering the pads and two kids games... Sad but no time to relive my racing days of the past :-)

glennlovesyou 02-26-2013 09:20 AM

Thanks . Well I got the AC III bundle pack yesterday & GT 5 today . I think I will stand pat till I unbox. Still 239.98 for this game and the bundle seems like real good finds . Thanks for the deals .

FreeeStufffer 02-26-2013 09:23 AM

l would jump on the GT5 and heavy rain but with the new ps4 coming out this year all these games will be cheaper plus lm picking up the new GOW so l will be busy with the online play and still trying to finish GOW2 and GOW3 before l play the single play in 4. So l can wait.

TheManOfSteel 02-26-2013 09:29 AM

Tempted to pickup Heavy Rain and Mortal Kombat (I already have and beat UC3 GOTY - freakin love the Uncharted series). However I think these games will be cheaper by the time I get around to playing them.

I still have: Metal Gear Solid 4, Walking Dead 1-5, Mass Effect Trilogy, and Final Fantasy XIII all to beat. It will probably take me a year to beat all of those!

GhostDog 02-26-2013 09:54 AM

Damn it! My order for Uncharted 3 was voided! They better get more in stock!

Walking Dead will take you a weekend. Don't even bother with FFXIII, or XIII-2. I beat the ME Trilogy over xmas break and it was definitely worth it. Take your time with MGS4.

If you're into the pacing and style of walking dead, I would definitely check out Heavy Rain. It's sort of like playing the movie Seven.

And to anyone who is considering GT5XL: Do yourself a favor and do not install the bonus content (especially the cars) right away. Using the Red Bull Prototype is fun for a while but pretty much makes progress irrelevant.

Thanks. The GOTY edition has been out for quite some time, but since I'm only interested in the single player I should have pounced on this. I saw this thread when it only had 5 TU, and missed out. Oh well, I'll leave my alert for UC3 on.

Ummm, yeah?

Since there are presumably a lot of PS3 gamers here, an OT question for you - is MGS4 worth buying? I haven't played any of the MGS series but MGS4 has good reviews. Is it required to play the earlier games in the series?

Newegg is probably going to have more PS3 sales if the last 2 days are any indication. Good for me as a new PS3 owner.

MGS is a stealth type game its not a go all out rambo type shooting game. I enjoy it but depend on the person.

It's an okay deal. If you have a PC, you can get the Deluxe edition for around $5 or less. I've also seen the Deluxe version go for $10 on PSN. There is also an Ezio Trilogy pack (comes with all the DLCs) that retails for $40, though I expect it to drop in price over the course of this year--probably around $20-$30 during the Christmas season.

If you have a PC or can wait for the Trilogy pack to go down, I would do so. If you want to play it now, then this is a fair deal.

If you play heavy rain, remember this tip. DONT PICK UP THE LAMP... until there are no other options

I just play on the console and haven't heard good things about the other two.
So, just wanted to play this one. Wouldn't the GOTY come with all the DLC for this game?

I don't believe there is a GOTY for ACII. There is a deluxe version, though I've never seen one that was on disc form on the Xbox/PS3. If you're talking about ACII Greatest Hits version (Platinum Hits on 360), that is different from GOTY/Deluxe and does not come with any extra DLCs.

Nice job OP. I enjoyed heavy rain and also enjoyed the Uncharted series. I'm debating getting GT5XL. I love cars, wondering if this would fit the bill of a decent sim?

Gran Turismo 5 XL is sold out and at that price I'm not surprised.

TU

If you're talking about Uncharted 1, then yes, absolutely -- it's not a great game and it was clear that Naughty Dog spent most of their time wrestling with building the engine and then had to get the game out the door without much polish. I played it back in the day and couldn't even get through it before becoming bored.

Uncharted 2 and 3 are a completely different matter, however. They're both among my favorite games of all time, and the story is actually great for a video game (especially in 3). The character development of the three main characters rivals the best the gaming industry has ever produced (although it's worth noting that most games have absolutely no character development to speak of, so this wasn't a high bar to exceed).

More importantly, however, the gameplay is top-notch -- the controls and cover mechanics are fluid and well-designed, and the stealth system works well. I'd recommend to anyone new to the series to just start with Uncharted 2 and read about the plot of 1 on wikipedia.

XL is sold out on Newegg, but is available on Amazon for $20 (and has been for sometime). It's still a bargain at that price for a game that has hundreds of hours of gameplay if you enjoy sim racing.

A few important caveats, however:

First, the loading times in GT5 are horrendous. Even with the game installed to the hard drive it takes up to 10 seconds just to load from one menu screen to another. However, I've read that Spec 2.0 might have improved this a bit, so it's possible that it's slightly better now.

Second, this game was really designed with use of a wheel & pedals in mind. I tried playing it briefly with the DS3, but it's hard to control the cars with the precision you want in a sim racer and the triggers are poorly designed for racing games. As far as controlling racing games with controllers are concerned, Forza 4 does that much, much better (it basically smooths everything out so that you aren't constantly over-correcting with the thumbstick).

That said, with a wheel & pedals, GT5 is the king of console sim racing (IMO, of course, although I've tried them all). And the Logitech Driving Force GT is a great wheel for its price, and will be instantly recognized by GT5.

The game is probably still quite fun without a wheel, but you'll need most or all of the assists turned on and will have to master nudging the stick just right. It's quite literally 10x better with a wheel, and the force feedback is second to none among console racers.

I have a wheel I use to play iRacing on my PC, but am considering buying a PS3 just to run through the rest of GT5 XL's campaign (I played it back when it first came out on my former roommate's PS3). There are a few PC sims that have better physics and force feedback, but none that have the lengthy career and breadth of production cars to drive that GT5 offers. The only thing holding me back is the bad memory of those god-awful loading times. Lots of console games have poor loading times, but GT5 was up there with the 360 version of Oblivion in long load times.

Edit: Another thing about the wheels is that almost all of the major ones, whether it be from Logitech, Fanatec, or even the pricier Thrustmaster ones, are fully compatible with the PS3 and PC -- so if you want to have a go at iRacing you can use the same wheel. Presumably Sony's open policy towards USB controller compatibility will continue with the PS4 and all of these wheels will be compatible with it as well.

Sadly, Microsoft is not so kind with third-party controllers and the 360 requires a license, which significantly drives up the price of wheels that are compatible with it. For instance, the equivalent Fanatec wheel set that is compatible with the 360 is $100 more expensive than the one that is only compatible with PC & PS3.

Not sure if it's the upgraded HDD or game updates, but load times are a lot better than when I first installed the game. It's really not bad at all for me anymore.

Anyone know if there's any reason to buy the XL version if I already own GT5? I bought it when it first came out from Newegg for $48 IIRC.

i wonder if the load time can be improved if one swap in an SSD

Probably not worth it. The PS3 has quite a bottleneck at the SATA bus. When I googled it, people were not seeing much of an improvement over a 5,400 RPM HDD when using 7,200 RPM HDD's so I just went with a WD scorpio blue, same drive I use in my laptop with good results.

strip tease game back in stock;). GT5 and U3 are still out.
edit: out again :(

I have to say I use a DS3 (don't have room to set up my logitech wheel) and I haven't had any issues. The only assists I have on is ABS level 1 and racing line. You think it might be your sensitivity settings?

As far as I know I thought the XL gives you codes for the DLC content that was released.

amazon and eBay have this for about $19.99 last time I checked. It is really not that much if you have to pay tax at newegg.

I wouldn't say this except that games and technology diminish in value with time...
Especially after the PS4 is announced an coming out in the same calendar year

On Amazon around cyber Monday during the lightning deals I got:
Gran Turismo 5 XL for $10
Drakes Deception for $15
