PlayStation Network: $10 Back For Every $50 Spent

1 Attachment(s)
This is a nice discount to stack on top of current promotions at PSN :D

Promo Details [playstation.com]
Quote:

What a start we’ve had to 2013! We here at PlayStation Network have no intention of slowing down anytime soon, and we have a great new promotion and a number of great digital titles coming your way starting next month.

Starting February 26 and throughout the month of March, we’ll be offering you the chance to get $10 back for EVERY $50 you spend using your SEN Wallet! This means that if you spent $100 you’d receive $20 back at the end in April. Everything from games, movies and TV shows — anything that accepts SEN Wallet funds — is fair game. If you were thinking of subscribing to PlayStation Plus, now’s a great time to do it. Grab the 1-year membership for $49.99 to get the most of your PSN experience, plus a little extra cash back.

We also have a number of brand new Day 1 Digital titles coming your way in March, and even better, they’re all available for pre-order starting tomorrow, February 26! Pre-ordering the titles gets you a free theme, and a number of the titles come with additional pre-order bonuses for PSN buyers.

Grabbing these titles is a great way to take advantage of this promotion, as every $50 you spend counts toward getting $10 increments back in April.

I assume the 49.99 one year ps plus renewal will not be enough to qualify for the promotion?

There are a bunch of $.99, $1.49, $1.99 fillers on the PSN store that'll bring your order above $50 to qualify for the $10 back. Or you could grab a movie or a $5.99 ps1 classic, whatever floats your boat :bounce:

These two promotions ($10 back and 15 months of ps+) overlap until 3/4

Nice suggestion about ps1 classics. I'm hopeful that at least digital ps1 purchases will be playable on the ps4.

bareyataghan 02-26-2013 09:51 AM

Thanks and rep!! I'm glad I waited until today to do my playstation plus. Time to set it up when I get home.

edit: hah, I can't rep you because I already did early for the 3ds games you posted. Well... TY anyway!

From the original post on the blog, a response from the author to the concern about $49.99 not triggering $50.00 for the $10 back

That's even better news! Thanks for the info.

Jaggsta 02-26-2013 11:00 AM

Not bad 15 months of PS Plus for $40. 3 month free promotion stacks they said. Whoever bought it before Feb 26th is out of luck LOL!

J03 02-26-2013 11:08 AM

Hmm, might finally bite. Didn't want to subscribe until I could beat regular price. Still mad I missed out on other promotions though...

jltaser 02-26-2013 11:11 AM

They've finally got me. 3 extra months + $10 back. I'm going PLUS even though I won't be gaming much for the next 3 months, lol.

xplicitone 02-26-2013 11:22 AM

Just to clarify, so you have to put money in your wallet first then make the purchase, correct?

I'll be looking for a cheap filler (0.99 cent avatar) and add an extra 15 months of PSN for 50ish :D

That or just buy the game I was going to buy that comes on sale tonight, Unit 13. Decisions Decisions. I wish Critter Crunch was still on sale for like 2 bucks haha.

EDIT: For current PS+ members, RE: Code Veronica X Avatar bundle is 0.49 cents: https://store.sonyentertainmentne...0000000001
or Okami: https://store.sonyentertainmentne...0000000001

Yeah, was going to say, join PS+, then buy a cheap avatar for $0.50 or something. It's cumulative, right? Not $50 at once?

Question is how is playstation plus going to convert to PS4 since expiration date on PS Plus will be in 2014.

The $10 credit they sent me + this basically makes 15 months of PS+ $30. :D

Who says it will? It took forever for Sony to add PS+ benefits to the Vita. I'm sure they'll eventually have a PS+ program for the PS4, but I wouldn't really count on it being in place at launch. Besides, Sony will support the PS3 for at least a couple years after the PS4 is launched (look at how long they supported the PSX and PS2).

Depends - what do you mean?

You KNOW PS+ will still work with PS4 - likely, they'll even have some PS4 content on there, free within a short period, just like the Vita at Thanksgiving.

Or - do you want your PS3 games to work on the PS4? Really doubt that would work - it might, but don't count on it.

I know I went from PSP to PSVita with no change at all in my Plus account. If they port games you already "own" over to PS4, then you should be able to just download again in PS4 format....at least, that's how it worked with the Vita. I was able to take PSP content I'd already purchased and just redownload to the Vita.

Not saying they CAN'T screw it up - but up til now, everything has worked in the gamer's favor.

Damn!! should of waited to get the black ops2 DLC, no point buying it last year when the new maps aren't even out until later this week.

Just joining the PS3 family so please excuse my ignorance.

Yesterday I grabbed the 500gb PS3, 1 mo. PS+ and ACIII bundle. If I use the included 1 month free of PS+ immediately and buy the 12 months before 3/4 to get the 3 months also. Does it all get tacked on to an account for 16 total months?

The difference in offerings for EU & US Plus is staggering. Mine just expired and I'm not going to renew even though I have a one year voucher paid for. If anything, I'd seriously consider going with EU's superior service.

Febuary for Europe PS Plus: (Motorstorm Apocalypse and Vanquish already in IGC)
6th February: Sleeping Dogs
6th February: Quantum Conundrum
6th February: F1 Race Stars
13th February: WipEout 2048
20th February: Lumines Electronic Symphony

March for Europe PS Plus:
6th March: Mass Effect 3
6th March: Dead or Alive 5
6th March: Joe Danger 2
13th March: Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (VITA)
20th March: Puddle

We've gotten Plants Vs Zombies, Vanquish, Closure and other games I can't be bothered to remember. Check out blog.us.playstation.com and the link for eu is at the top as well (or just replace us with eu).

Pbear 02-27-2013 12:06 AM

It won't be.

None of the psn digital downloads will automatically work with ps4.

Sony is working on "streaming" games, which could possibly allow you to stream the games you've already bought without having to pay any extra, but there has been no word on when that service will be available or how many games will be streamable.

But as far as just buying a ps4 and being able to download the stuff that you've already bought, NO you will not be able to. Sony already came out and said so.

So be careful about how much stuff you buy

I can't confirm it, but there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

That's actually what i am thinking of doing too, so it would be nice to know for sure, but it sounds like any purchase through psn will work

othernash 02-27-2013 04:05 AM

I'm a bit leery of the bonus PS+ extension considering they announced the PS4 just this week.

My thought is that either This will turn out to be super sweet (Sony has been known to be the more generous of the three console makers in the online arena, it seems), or I'm gonna regret making that long of a PS+ commitment... Guess I have until 3/4 to decide if I wanna take this gamble. I mean, they certainly didn't HAVE to let me have PS+ on my Vita with free downloadable a, but they did.

I don't think there is anything to worry about.

Ps3 games (including digital downloads) will not work on the ps4, but there is no reason to think that the ps4 won't have ps+ quickly.

So the games that you dowload NOW will not be compatible with ps4, but the games they release on PSN for the ps4 will work on the ps4 (obviously).

So all that will happen is that part of your membership will help you with ps3, and then after ps4 comes out it will help you with ps4 (after a while, i doubt they give free ps4 games out right away).

Sony is not going to screw its customers out of money by saying, "Sorry, we don't have ps+ anymore so you're out of luck".

PS+ will be around for ps4, it just that ps3 will only be compatible with ps3, and ps4 will only be compatible with ps4

Better gas prices in Europe? Gas is way more expensive on average in Europe. As in twice as expensive or more in some cities.

Regarding the deal, I'll probably get another 15 months of PS+ even though I'm good through December 2015 from the $40 deal a couple weeks ago.

FrankTheCrank 02-27-2013 04:54 AM

Yay, $10 back on $50 spent....too bad you won't be able to play any of your $100's of dollars of PSN purchases on the PS4. Damn you, Sony. Yes, I'm sour.

Jaggsta 02-27-2013 04:55 AM

What happens if buy 5 things for $9.99 that's $49.95 hopefully will qualify

I got $60 worth of playstation network cards from best buy facebook polls over last month.

I should have waited in buying black ops II season pass.

I wish I would have gotten in on the $15 for 1 year ps+ deal at target last year.

Why is everyone acting like the minute the PS4 comes out, they are going to throw their PS3 in the trash? I'm keeping my 3 around for years if I can't play all my stuff on the 4.

Yes, you might be missing something. Whether you want/would play the games they offer free to members; whether the discounts on games they offer to members, and whether other benefits would warrant the $50 a year is completely up to you. Myself, getting over $30 in downloaded game discounts last month almost paid for itself in one shot. Depending on the game, free beta access to new games can also be worth it for some.

Agreed. I feel it has been well worth the money. But the games are typically older. Great for new PS3 adopters who haven't played much. If you tend to play most of what is A+ titles and recently released, then you won't find much value.

That is a separate promotion. The $10 credit they sent her has nothing to do with the deal being discussed in this thread.

yangjay 02-27-2013 06:37 AM

What makes you guys so sure $49.99 would qualify for the $10? I know Pierre said "$49.99 will cut it. No Worries." in the blog, but who is Pierre? I'm looking at getting Black Ops 2 Season Pass...

TheLounge 02-27-2013 06:49 AM

Figures, I had $60 to spend the other day in rewards on my sonycard and my purchase already shipped :/ Ended up getting the psp battery pack thing for $30, and I am too cheap to spend my own $20 on psn lol. :/

I also have like 3 years of ps+ thanks to the target deal in late 2011

Agreed, plus even when games I already own pop-up on Plus, the Plus versions often include all the DLC (Resident Evil 5 Gold) which makes up a lot of the cost bc I hadn't bought the DLC before. In addition to that I have traded back games I already owned that popped up on Plus and have gotten about $30 total (I waited for Gamestop to drop a trade-in promo. So my last year has essentially cost $20 and i have gotten tons of free games including some I never would have purchased otherwise but ended up liking after playing them.

thikthird 02-27-2013 07:24 AM

well i spent about $17 last night on journey and walking dead. may pick up retrograde as well. i have about 4 weeks of updates for good things i want to go on sale to get the money back.

dkeat 02-27-2013 07:26 AM

Picked up Walking Dead for $7.50 last night so still have a ways to go to reach $50. Jumped on that $40/year ps plus deal posted here a week or two ago. Same difference, I guess.

That's actually what i am thinking of doing too, so it would be nice to know for sure, but it sounds like any purchase through psn will work

I would also love to know if this will work for Black Ops 2 DLC.

1st time buying PS+:

Is the membership purchase through amazon? It keeps on linking me to the amazon site.

These two promotions ($10 back and 15 months of ps+) overlap until 3/4

If you check Playstation message boards a rep of Sony is stating that PS plus qualifies for the $10 promotion. Makes sense since 1 cent is literally irrelevant.

Personally I purchased a $50 online code instead of buying PS plus online code. So basically $39.99 for 15 months of PS plus!

LOOK_AT_THIS_I 02-27-2013 08:45 AM

It works for ANYTHING you buy in the psn store. Games/music/movies/ dlc/minis/ps1-2/avatars/themes.....

I'm pretty sure you'll have to do this purchase through your PS3, vita (and/or maybe psp?). You'll add money to your wallet, then purchase the membership. Via a PC it will link you to amazon, and I'm not sure, but I don't think that will work for this promotion since it will just give you a code to enter via your PS3, PS vita or PSP.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.

The $10 credit you received from Sony was probably from the loyalty program. Don't really know was justifies being loyal to Sony but I got the credit too. Spend $50 get $10 doesn't end until April 1st so codes will ship closer to that date.

yes per the T&C you have to spend $50 out of the wallet. Buy digital cards (funds card, not ps+ membership card) from amazon, add funds from cards to wallet, buy membership with a filler on PS3 using funds from wallet, and that should work.

I know some rep said $49.99 would "cut it", but that's not what the T&C says so i would add a filler just to be safe.

PSN isn't going anywhere anytime soon. People that think this make me laugh. PS3s are still selling like hotcakes right now. Hell, they just BARELY stopped making PS2 consoles!

Not only that you can refill your wallet for $50 or increments of 5...so I would hope refilling your wallet would count towards spending $....if not just fill in with a little thing but PSN very very rarely and maybe they dont do it anymore would let me buy something outright w/o filling my wallet at an increment of 5, so even if I wanted to buy something at $47 I usually have to give it $50 and would have $3 for credit.

ablarc 02-27-2013 10:32 AM

I just bought the Black Ops 2 DLC Season Pass on the 24th. That really sucks that it was just 2 days before this went active. It bugged me enough to call and see if they would honor it because it was so close to the start date, but no go. I was informed that I can spend another $50 right now and I would get the $10 credit. lol. A lot of good that will do me now.

The promo is for every $50 spent. If you're just adding funds to your wallet then you haven't actually bought anything.

Yukichu 02-27-2013 10:41 AM

If you bought a game on PSN and sony makes that game available for streaming on PS4 then hopefully gamers would not have to re-purchase the right to stream the game that they already bought on PSN previously, Hopefully the option to "download/stream" will be listed on the PSN store for these games. While downloading our old PS3games wouldnt work on PS4 the stream option would work (sometime in the future when/if sony ever actually gets streaming to work properly)

Kakarrott64 02-27-2013 02:00 PM

Doh, already bought the PS Plus membership. Still, great deal. Guess I'll lurk and see if there's anything I want sometime next month.

I guess we just need to finish our psn backlogs before Sony pulls the trigger,

Joe88 02-27-2013 04:34 PM

if you need filler (something you might actually play/use and not a random avatar)
retro/grade is currently on sale for $2.44 for psn+

or you can just buy psn+ for $40 on ebay but probably better to get it on psn instead to get the 3 extra months

Sorry is this has been answered already, but I didn't see it while glancing through the first few pages.

Do I have to make 1 checkout to equal $50, or is it $50 between now and April?

mirai 02-27-2013 05:18 PM

Both the blog and T&C do not mention that $50 needs to be spent in the same transaction so I think it is accumulative.

When will they send the $10 codes? I already spent over 50 today.

Found it, codes to be sent by april 12th

Triumph18 02-27-2013 07:09 PM

how do you add the PSN 1 year sub to your cart? everytime I go to buy it, it wants to check out right away?
or am I missing something obvious?

nevermind, found on another site:

No. Put the money in the PS3 Wallet. Buy PS+ 12 month via PS3. Get $10 back in april

Joe88 02-28-2013 01:53 PM

$40 is to 12 months as $x is to 15 months

40/12 = x/15 --> x = 49.9999999999999....

The ebay route is less expensive by $0.00999999...

The money must be spent out of the Wallet so I think it's ok to buy a PSN network card, add value to wallet, and then use it to buy whatever you want.

that's what I'm going to do anyway as Amazon feels safer.

How's the trolling business, troll?

You make good money trolling, or is trolling just a hobby?

Sony already said game prices are capped at $59.99.

Troll harder next time

I'm on the fence on this. I've had PS+ for four months (1 free trial month + 3 month renewal) and it just expired. I really didn't get all that much use out of it, since my hard drive is pretty much full from previous game purchases and installs which I have yet to beat so I can't delete and clear it out.

If you're someone like me with a HUGE backlog of accumulated games already and don't have all that much time to play due to real life responsibilities, PS+ may not be worth it for you. Then again, I do have a couple of Best Buy gift certificates from their Facebook polls so I am tempted to use them to purchase PSN cards and redeem them for this promotion + the 3 bonus months....HMMM choices choices.

if you don't use it, and cannot flip it, it is worth nothing for you.

I'd use the rewards certificates to get disc games from BB. I bought used ps3 games from bb a couple of times before, and disc quality is usually very good.

You don't have to spend money from your wallet to get the extra months. All you have to do is redeem one code for a year of plus and it automatically ads the months. You can even buy a code from amazon and it will add three months

edit - nevermind, i just check my email receipts. $29.12 spent so far, $20.88 to go. i know sine mora is supposed to go on sale this month for $5, so that leaves me with around $16 more to go, and i don't think any other game i'm interested in is going on sale this month besides that one. gonna have to buy a non-sale game.
