SOLD OUT

3.5mm Gold-plated Stereo Mini Plug (i.e. not USB)

Thats a plus for some people, saves money and better for if they have a discrete sound card (USB headsets have their own internal sound chips instead, which is why they are usually more expensive)

KEEP YOUR MANUAL, HAS YOUR S/N!

was waiting for a cheap headset thanks got one

TheBagman 02-26-2013 11:05 AM

I have owned two of these things (one for work and one for home)... and I thought they were an absolute steal at $39.99 when I got them. I'm no audiophile... but these things sound really good.

I mainly use them for light gaming (Borderlands + Diablo with buddies) and skyping with the girlfriend. I have worn for hours on end with no issues whatsoever.

The one complaint I have is that I didn't initially love the placement of the mic. It grew on me over time though.

Would thoroughly recommend!

krazyxazn 02-26-2013 11:13 AM

Tempted to buy these or a replacement Panasonic RP-HTF600 that are falling apart.

iamstarfox 02-26-2013 11:39 AM

I use these for gaming. I like them a lot. They have good bass, for a non-powered headset. Pretty comfortable... heavy cloth covered foam padding on top and for the ears. The ear cups rotate a bit and this helps out a lot with comfort. I do wish the ear cup holes were bigger, though. They do hurt me a bit after a couple of hours or so, but if you have smaller ears than me, they shouldn't at all. Some people say these things feel like cheap plastic, but that's a good thing... because it means they are light-weight. The wire is pretty thin on these, which makes me wonder how long these will last before getting a short in them, but they've been fine so far. Oh, the microphone is great, at least that's what my clan members say when I'm on voip with them.

Over all... It's a great headset for the price.

Japper88 02-26-2013 12:07 PM

Word of advice, I got a pair of these a while back. They're pretty good, but kind of tight around my head/ears and can get uncomfortable after long gaming sessions. My head isn't that big either like a 7 1/8 to 7 1/4 hat size...

Like the previous poster said, the ear cups are kind of small so that adds to the discomfort after long wear...

parasitemite 02-26-2013 12:16 PM

Bought, thanks... needed some new headphones for gaming!

sticky 02-26-2013 12:17 PM

Anyone know, Will this headset work with Xbox 360?

You'll need an adapter for it, which is always a pain to use

dvdngu 02-26-2013 12:24 PM

Good sound quality, cheap build quality. Avoid tugging / pulling / rolling over the wire with your chair because they WILL break very quickly if you do.

gonepostl 02-26-2013 12:34 PM

WE SAVIN MONEY HOOOE! Repped!!

lcahmed 02-26-2013 12:36 PM

purchased these a while ago on Newegg for $24.99. Great product! Wear these for hours when surfing the web listening to music. Comfortable, great sound, and mic works like a charm when on skype/google video chat. $19.99 is a steal

rootbear 02-26-2013 12:45 PM

My son has been through three. two replaced under warranty. he gave up after the third and switched to turtle beach. nice while they work. expect about 6 months life.

icedamage 02-26-2013 01:14 PM

I own a pair of these that I've had for several (3-4) years that I used daily. Never had any issues with them up until couple months ago when the right can stopped working. never abused them, never threw them around, but I was surprised they lasted as long as they did. It ended up being the volume control that gave out so I just jumped the connection and it started working again. I have no volume control now but they're still awsome! Gonna get another pair thanks op!

yyAjax 02-26-2013 01:18 PM

This cant be used on xbox right?

LiquidSmoke420 02-26-2013 01:46 PM

These are amazing headsets, and for this cost you cant beat it. I have owned 3 of them.

charliegirl 02-26-2013 01:50 PM

Can they be used w ps3?

Train Wreck 02-26-2013 01:57 PM

I went for some Plantronics instead

Reactic 02-26-2013 02:08 PM

Did two of them break or what?

evilmomo 02-26-2013 02:19 PM

I have owned 3 pairs of these - and every pair the mic crapped out after 3-4 months of use.

durpy 02-26-2013 02:32 PM

i've owned these for more than a year and i never use them anymore. the volume setting doesn't go too high and the cloth surrounding the ear part collects lint like crazy

Wislak 02-26-2013 02:34 PM

Same question. Any way these can be used for a PS3?

722 02-26-2013 02:36 PM

Got these years ago. They are pretty good. More comfortable for me because the ear is smaller and doesn't cause itching.

ZeteHitman 02-26-2013 02:57 PM

Thanks needed a extra pair

smilesnxtc 02-26-2013 03:04 PM

Bought these at $30, and have been going strong for a year. Good sound and good bass. After a year... mic boom seems to be thinning in front and 1cm opening of stitching on one of the ear pads where the cloth meets the plastic. I wear them DAILY! It's a no brainer @ $20 :)

Never had a problem with the mics on any of the pair I bought.

I think the volume setting is relative to your soundcard. Do you have a creative card with X-Fi? The crystalizer is freakin amazing. Yes is does collect lint like crazy, but its on your head, so who cares. Other earphones collect earwax paste on their fake leather padding. :P

examante 02-26-2013 03:13 PM

I have no idea if these can be used with a PS3 or XBOX since I don't have either but they use a standard 3.5mm mic jack along side the 3.5 headphone jack. Inline volume controls and mic on/off switch. If either console takes these I can't see why they wouldn't work

FYI, ear pads are a bit itchy. Cheap velour/felt fabric is the culprit. Itching does go away after a while
I don't think they are tight at all and I have no patience for tight headphones

Sound wise they sound like a $40 headset, so they are a good deal at $20 on sale. Some better options in the $40/$50 range

Construction is pretty crappy indeed, but as a gaming headset that shouldn't matter too much at this price range.

I only use them for gaming that requires a mic or voip. Probably not great for music. Sonically they don't have much in the way of separation and sound stage isn't great if you require one. It's not bad for the price, just not something you should expect

GreatWhite 02-26-2013 03:21 PM

Thanks! :)

Dizzychu 02-26-2013 03:24 PM

Is there anyway to use the mic for things like Skype if it doesn't have a USB? I can't get just standard headphones to work on Skype

The audio will - the mic will not unless you have a Miamp or something like that

dsandsake 02-26-2013 03:35 PM

I would avoid these, they sound ok, but the build quality is crap. A friend and I each bought one of these 1-2 years ago and both had issues with the mic crapping out. My friend also had issues with his computer not recognizing them after 3 months. But who knows, maybe these newer versions are better.

TrueWhiteBoy 02-26-2013 03:45 PM

Had a pair for the past two years. Works great, though after about an hour you may want to shift the pads a bit.
Also the cable is a bit thin, I didn't have any problems with it yet, but if you're careful with it you'll be fine.

Akuma77 02-26-2013 03:47 PM

bought and works great.

make sure you plug in the mic firmly inside

zipykido 02-26-2013 03:50 PM

Bought a pair for my brother for Christmas for about $25, I've been waiting for these to drop. He uses them frequently and says they sound good and are comfortable.

the_neon_cowboy 02-26-2013 04:07 PM

I have been waiting for these to go on sale again got one last year at this price,
been excellent, getting one for the wife since her el-cheap-o's broke...

CorySTG 02-26-2013 04:10 PM

i got this a year or two when newegg had them on sale for $20 or $25. Great product and I still use it today.

ic33y 02-26-2013 04:20 PM

I think these 3.5mm inputs are the older model which don't have X-Fi built in (the USB ones do). Can anyone who has used both comment on the sound quality differences between the two? My old ones were the USB ones and the sound was really good for $40 at the time.

TekkenLord 02-26-2013 04:30 PM

This reminds me of the saying...It's not the size of the ship but the motion in the ocean :tomato:

ninensei 02-26-2013 05:51 PM

I bought thirteen of these at an auction for $4 a piece brand new. I tried to sell them on CL, but could only find a buyer for one so I gave away eight as gifts and kept four for our family to use. They have performed great. They are a little tight on the head for wearing long periods of time, but well worth the money. Thumbs up!

For those wondering if this will work with a PS3, by Itself no. You will have to have a USB soundcard to plug into the PS3, and then plug this into the USB sound card. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

prankies 02-26-2013 07:11 PM

I usually try and warn people away from throwing their money away on "gamer" marketed peripherals of any kind, but you aren't going to find many fully functional mic/headphone combinations cheaper than this. If you have a limited budget and need to communicate during PC games, this is hard to beat.

Still, don't expect anything "quality" about the sound or the build of these headphones. There are a lot of $20 sets of headphones without mics or the xtreme gamer branding that would get you better sound for the money. And, as with just about every "gamer" headset, fraying/shorts from poor build quality will catch up with you sooner or later (probably sooner).

danmtz 02-26-2013 08:06 PM

Bought these, I hate having to connect external mics for a quick gaming sessions, thanks!

No not that much, but at least 4-5 times a week with 3-6 hour intervals.

steelseries 5xb vs fatality headset which is better in terms of audio and microphone performance?

-Currently own the 5xb and the audio sounds like putting a bucket over your head.
-The microphone on the 5xb is very low quality, has a hiss noise, and has a low sensitivity range as tested on audacity.
-microphone has to be in your mouth in order to get any microphone pickup.

MastaGunZ 02-26-2013 08:26 PM

Wow, as soon as I add to cart, login with paypal, confirm.
Item is sold out...

dead, hope some more come back in stock.

I did a search on that exact topic earlier when I saw these on sale, and the majority said Steelseries was better both in sound and quality. Didn't read much about mic differences.

Well, half the people may have been referring to the Siberias, but I have Siberias and 4xb, and the 4xb sound just a little better anyway. My Siberias are very old and worn and V1, though.

I'm surprised this deal has so much attention actually since just last week the 4xb was $20 and I'd have to look again but don't think it got too much attention, and that also came with the Xbox plug-in thing that also can be used as a USB-powered volume booster.

Reading so many people say the Fatality quality isn't that great vs. the Steelseries also surprised me since I don't think V1 Siberias or 4xb are all that durable. The speakers are, yeah, and I think the V1 mic is great, but both cups broke off my V1 pretty quickly and I had to Macgyver them.

One thing worth mentioning in pretty much any headphones thread is whether they are open or closed back. I don't know about these, but at least some of the Steelseries are open, and if someone wants to use headphones so other people can't hear what they're hearing, open backs aren't going to work very well.

cznightrider 02-26-2013 09:27 PM

Just picked up one! For $20 thats great, cause u can get some crappy headsets at walmart for the same price.

thanks for the feedback. I just tested the steelseries 5xb using audacity and my suspicions were confirmed: Steelseries used a cheap microphone in the headset. It may not be noticeable while gaming (since there are explosions and other noises in the background) but the 5xb is terrible for simple narrating.

thanks for replying though.

Came today with no carrying case :( I think Newegg needs to update their product description. I guess I can use the plastic double sided clam-shell for transporting to LANs. Looks more sturdy than a cloth bag haha.
