is 60,000 miles high enough mileage? My car is only a 2010 model year if that matters.

edit: I thought in the Amazon thread about this oil someone said it was a synthetic blend. Advance Auto says it's not synthetic blend. So this is conventional oil just 50% recycled?

MasGaster 02-26-2013 01:59 PM

Better than the amazon subscribe and save deal -- this is the same rebate, right?

Not sure. You might prematurely make your car feel older than it is if you start using "high mileage" oil too soon....

Right, this is conventional oil, just that 50-55% of it is refined from previously-used oil. So, it's no different from their regular conventional oil except for being more eco-friendly, etc. - see http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/valvoline-qa/

According to the Valvoline website, it says that the MaxLife NexGen oil is "all natural" so that means not synthetic.

DAKn2 02-26-2013 02:26 PM

This is a good deal; but I've been spoiled by so many FAR oil deals that I need to look away....especially since I now have enough oil to change all 3 cars; the motorcycle; the lawn tractor and the lawn mower for the next 2 years....

sandmans42 02-26-2013 02:41 PM

I have the rebate and I have the postcard which is for $10/13 instead of $7/10. I am going to submit the postcard with this deal, and I almost posted this deal. My order is ready to be picked up from last night...
Is the printable one the same offer? has this been discussed? I was going to buy the $8 off 2 at walmart and submit the other rebate 7/10 but wasn't sure. I don't want to be declined on the $13 for submiting 2.

I know that some high mileage oils claim they are for cars that are 75,000 miles or more. Frankly, I wouldn't waste the money on it if I were you, since your car only has 60,000 miles. You're better off putting the extra money into synthetic oil (if you plan to switch for the rest of the life of the car).

75k and over

NighthawkDC2 02-26-2013 02:58 PM

I was kinda upset that I couldn't find any NextGen MaxLife 5w30 5 qt jugs at WalMart and use my Coupons.com coupon for $5 off and use the rebate behind it.

It's nice to have the 1 qt bottles to carry in the car to use to top off the oil level.

The nextgen maxlife is a synthetic blend, the nextgen conventional is not a synthetic blend. Valvoline recommends the maxlife at 75000 and durablend under 75000, they are currently discontinuing the durablend line and the only blend oils they will have will be the maxlife. I dont think using a high mileage oil will do any harm although i hear the higher zinc content may lead to catalytic converters being clogged in the long run but ive never seen any proof of this.

Read further on the link you posted before giving out incorrect information... Older Maxlife was a synthetic blend. Is NextGen Maxlife also a synthetic blend? (note: I don’t think 75,000 miles is high mileage) (Loobed)

Yes.

Difference between a synthetic blend and full syn is mainly the price. If he or she drives in extreme conditions i.e. (cold starts, stop and go traffic, extreme temps, or rough terrain) it would absolutely benefit them to use at least a blend. Your myth about once you use a synthetic you must always continue to is just that, a myth.

Are there special steps to do if you are switching from conventional to synthetic? I think I have conventional in it right now but am not sure since I got it done at the dealership (first oil change was free). I just got an Infiniti so I want that thing to last until Jetson cars become the norm so now I'm looking out for oil deals so I don't have to rely on whatever the shop wants to put in.

beefsupreme 02-26-2013 03:46 PM

Just drain the old, change the filter and put the new in. It doesn't have to be flushed or anything like that.

Remove the filler cap, and *then* drain the old .. that way you still have a car full of oil when you find out the fill cap is stuck.

In for 5. Will be good for riding mower and pressure washer in the spring.

Any idea if you can buy both the Maxlife and Conventional for a total rebate of $17 or is it only a maximum rebate of $10??

fuelvolts 02-26-2013 04:14 PM

Ugh. No Advanced Auto Parts in DFW, Texas. :(

donjuan81 02-26-2013 04:18 PM

this is what keeps me away from recycled oils (from BITOG link):

Recycle oil bin at auto parts stores and quick lubes may contain other fluids such as ATF, gear fluid, brake fluid, coolant … How do I know that NextGen has only oil based fluid and not other fluids ? This is the main reason I didn’t buy any NexGen oil yet, even when there were good rebates so that the cost per quart was less than $1. (HTSS TR)

The processes during re-refining eliminate almost all of the used and unused additives and contaminants that are present in the used oil, leaving only the good lubricating oil molecules as the output. At Valvoline, very strict quality standards are established to ensure the re-refined oils we use are of or above the desired quality.

along with this:

The oil that is recycled is it just any old brand of oil or do you only use Valvoline oil that has been used? (LoganC)

The re-refined base oils that are used in Valvoline NextGen products are sourced from our strategic suppliers, who acquire their used oils from varieties of sources.

basically saying that they are not guaranteeing you will not find other fluids (coolant, ATF, etc.) or cheapo re-used old oil in the minimum 50% of the quart.

CPFB 02-26-2013 04:18 PM

DARN!! I just ordered the case of Maxlife from Amazon for $9 AR.

Thanks anyway OP!

nitemare 02-26-2013 04:36 PM

Wont let me register the rebate as it says my email address is already used since I used it for the amazon.com deal. So I cant buy 5 from Auto Advanced? Lame.

You are incorrect. Valvoline is saying that you will get only oil by a process of distillation, evaporation and hydrocracking to ensure all water, eg, contaminants, etc are removed and only a premium oil is left behind.

Just going by what was in the BITOG thread. Whoever was replying in that thread said in black and white "almost all" additives are removed. I read that as there is still some in there.

nigasup 02-26-2013 04:55 PM

whats even sweeter about this deal is I have a company account with advance auto parts and I know the manager well. Hes giving me $5 off the total on each set.

So one is Free and other is only $2

Probably more of a legal standpoint if anything. Companies can never claim 100% of anything because some lunatic will sue based on a 0.0001%.

Bozo 02-26-2013 05:16 PM

Lol, as others have noted, the pop up blocked the print, and it won't let you print the rebate. Lucky I did not buy the oil. What a PINA, I'm not sure its worth the hassel of calling. I do miss the FAR deals on the jugs of this. Kinda had me spoiled. Now that Valvoline is trying to do their own rebates, they totally suck at it.

josh9207 02-26-2013 05:21 PM

Add just appeared today, 3/26/2013 but when you try to make the purchase it says promotion no good I spoke with the Advanced Auto, Valvoline online rep and rep appologized for the error and stated she would report the problem with false ad. needs to be removed from Slickdeals.com cause it sure is no slickdeal if its not applicable.

debating should i or shouldn't I? I'm being super cheap since this is for our 1990 ranger runner junker truck. got in on the FAR nextgen in august or so...but for $5 + oil filter it is a good deal, and it can only get $5 better than that, I can always scoop up a FAR later too if they pop up...ok i convinced myself...

snowcrashed 02-26-2013 07:00 PM

damn, what happened to the FAR valvoline oil, lol. I should have bought more of it when it didn't cost so much :)

$5 for oil is pretty good, but I got a bunch last year during several rounds of FAR.

I don't understand why anyone would pay full price ($4 or so) for a quart of oil x 5 qts. + a filter, when there's shops all around me that offer $19.99 oil changes plus free tire rotation.

I'm almost willing to pay full price for the privilege of NOT having a shop take two hours to tear my car apart looking for things to "fix." And it'll be closer to $25 after they tack on bogus shop fees. $11.50 is an OK deal ($6.50 after rebate -- don't forget tax and the cost of a stamp + $5 for a decent filter).

because if I can get 5 qts and a filter of top quality oil for $20 I will do it myself. When you buy the $20 oil change at a shop you are getting advance auto/autozone/oriellys brand oil...which is trash. I know because I used to deliver the oil to the shops myself. I would never trust putting that shit in my car.

Just noticed a Sign in front of the NextGen oil for the "Close the Loop" Offer.

I know they were doing this offer last year with the $20 rebate, but the guys working at Advance didn't know a thing about it.

I bought 5 qts & a Purolator filter and used my $5 off coupon from Coupons.com.

I plan on sending in the rebate, too.

Walked out w/ 5 qts & a filter for $17.

Hmm, picked up my Valvoline MaxLife NextGen 10/30 earlier today from Advance, but my receipt just says "10W - 30 High Mileage Motor Oil" then gives an ID number. No mention of Valvoline,MaxLife or anything. Wonder if that'll be a problem for the rebate?

Deal looks to be dead! I tried it this morning. :(

GetMaxCashBack 03-01-2013 01:05 PM

Online says price is $6.59. Dead?

Thanks. Sometimes their online price is different from their in-store price. But yeah, most likely dead =(

This is twice now in the past 7 months, I've online ordered Nextgen oil from Advance and when I went to pick it up (days later), they couldn't find it in their system. Maybe it's a coincidence, but all non-oil online orders have never had such an issue. Guess I'll head to Walmart.

Your best practice when dealing with AAP is to place the order from your cell phone while standing in their parking lot. Otherwise there's every chance that they'll sell your order out from under you. To paraphrase Seinfeld, they know how to TAKE the order, they just don't know how to HOLD the order.

Haha .. nice. I love that scene.

However, the issue isn't about product stock. They had the oil in question. They just couldn't find my order in the system. And since the sale is now over, the current price of their stock was almost double what this deal was. Incidentally, it looks like they charged my card even though my receipt says I won't be charged until I pick it up, so now I'll have to dispute that. All in all, a big waste of time.

Received my rebate yesterday. It never showed up in the rebate tracker. Got a check which is much better than those amex gift cards AAP uses.

professorman 03-29-2013 06:17 AM

How do you track the rebate? What is the website?

timtim2008 03-29-2013 05:03 PM

anyone use this in a motorcycle? (wet clutch)

You should use motorcycle specific oil.

professorman 04-02-2013 04:14 PM
