I just picked one up for my kids to share, since I was planning on buying some new gear for me later anyway. While the initial out of pocket is steep, if you are in a similar situation as I am regarding future purchases, this is a nice deal.

Edit: Just adding this helmet actually is made by HJC for anyone interested. They make good helmets for reasonable prices typically if you are willing to give up some of the more advanced features of high end helmets, but still want quality.

Why such a deal? It has been one month shy of a year since we started selling the Abyss and Gothic graphic helmets (all the Gothic helmets are gone now). It was a huge closeout purchase for us and we've sold literally thousands of these, but a year is too long for us to have to warehouse any group of closeouts, so something drastic must be done. And I'm doing it!

About this helmet: The RKT-201 Abyss helmet from Joe Rocket is manufactured by HJC, a leader in the helmet industry and known for making high quality helmets at reasonable prices. This is a fiberglass helmet which is fairly lightweight yet incredibly tough. A fiberglass lid at this price is a steal.

The interior has moisture wicking qualities and is removable for washing. There are a large number of intake and exhaust vents to keep you cool and comfortable, reducing rider fatigue. Shields are easily interchangeable. The graphics are sharp and the finish is well done.

An interesting twist on the "free gift with $xxx purchase" type of promotion. Better even since you don't have to spend the gc all in one purchase and could probably use it in conjunction with future promos...

Yep. They restrict you from using it on any future "almost free" deals to prevent people from just accumulating a massive gift card balance from one initial purchase, but other than that there are no apparent restrictions on the use of the card.

Plus these guys are easy to deal with in general from my previous experience.

And yes, it's a bit fugly. I had already ruled it out for my kids, but at $10 I was a bit more flexible...hehe.

These guys have been around a long time. They used to be called newenough for years. I bought numerous items from them.

If the graphics are too loud, this would be a good track day helmet as its SNELL 2010.

Have looked at this in stores for GF and it was rather light too but she didn't like the graphics either otherwise we would have bought this for her.

don't know if they still do this, but before they changed their name from newenough, they'd give you an extra $10 gc for writing a review of a product you buy from them.

anyone know what HJC helmet this is comparable to? I think this is a great deal btw, I've bought more new gear from newenough/motorcyclegear than anywhere else, they specialize in closeouts on "last year's" models.

I got in on this deal (Tour Master Flex 2 Jacket in Big Men's Sizes; $24.99 after $200 Gift Card) last July and I was able to use the $200 GC from that purchase on this purchase. I also had a 10% off coupon that MotorcycleGear emailed me earlier this month that was expiring in two days that I was able to use. I had been eying the Shoei GT-Air Wanderer Helmet [motorcyclegear.com] but discovered that the 10% coupon does not work on items from Icon, REV'IT!, Shoei, or Thor. The coupon did work on this order though. I will probably end up using the $260 GC on the Shoei helmet when it comes out in mid-March :D

It's meant to be above the RF-1100 and below the Neotec and X-Twelve. I like that it has a built-in sun visor and I prefer its paint schemes to those available for the X-Twelve. I bet it will come down in price a bit after it is released. I tried one on last weekend and it felt solid and comfy. My friend didn't like it as much as the RF-1100. The X-Twelves were locked in a display case...

great deal if you're gonna use the gift card for more gear, us riders usually need more sooner or later. just keep in mind for impulse buys, you can get the same lid for half of this deals price

i have too high end helmets, and this would be the cheapest helmet i would have ever purchased. but I'm going to pass. I have way to much motorcycle gear too, so i wouldn't know what to spend that 260 gc on.

I own the rf1000, rf1100, and x-12. The 1100 is my newest, and favorite helmet of the 3.

Unfortunately for me, no dealers around here actually carry a selection of helmets. In order for me to try them, I have to buy them. I probably wouldn't be interested in it because I use my helmets for racing. Although, I do plan on doing a cross-country ride at some point and it seems like that would fit the bill nicely. If its anything like the other shoei helmets, i'm sure it'll be fantastic.

I prefer my RF1100 over the X12 and Qwest I tried out.

GT-Air looks cool, but I'd have to try it on before I say anything.

I really don't think any of htem should be compared since I feel that they all have different head shapes.

It's legit. I bought this same deal last year.

I bought the majority of my gear from them. If I ever start riding again I'll probably go to them to get the gear again. I've not ridden in a couple of year and just now sold my suit. I still have my jacket, and pants bought from them. They are a great bunch of people to deal with.

The helmet itself is actually very good. I got it when it was on clearance, but even at a higher $100 - $150 price, this would be a good buy. Pretty light, good fit - maybe a little more snug than I am used to. Higher wind noise than my Scorpio EXO-700 however.

I know some people are complaining about the graphics. I don't find it particulary displeasing, but then again, I want the visibility and am prepared to compromise on looks...

I've never seen one of the $20 ebay ones, but this is a legitimate helmet made by a legitimate company (HJC), rebranded by a legitimate company (Joe rocket, not quite top tier but definitely a major brand), and certainly sold for at least $100 in retail stores. You're getting the leftovers of a large purchase, and the most unpopular graphics design. The cool thing about a good helmet with a bad design is that you rarely see it :D These helmets sold for $70 (a heavy discount) on this site previously.

IMO the only question is whether you'd use the $260 GC.

It's back to $69 with no gift card.
