1. Add fillers such as erasers, pencils, rubber bands or paper clips to make above $100. http://www.staples.com/paper+clip...=1&sr=true

2. Apply coupon code 62355

Cost : $85 + tax

YMMV on Possible additional discount

Ordered from the Kiosk, which is the same as ordering from staples.com except when you check out, you select pay in store. It will then print a copy of the cashier instructions that you hand the cashier when checking out. Hand them the 30% office depot coupon and they will take $30 off then tell them your staples check in coupon code from your mobile phone. So now the math
$99 - $30 - $10 = $60 + tax.

Bought one in Santa Clara, CA. It was $99 + $1.29 (Clips) - $15 coupon - 20% Staples Coupon = Total $74 after CA tax. Manager refused to accept OD 30% coupon but allowed staples 20%.

Good find OP. The apple accessories are new to staples.com, usually apple products are excluded on coupons.

When I heard that Staples was poised to start selling Apple gear, I knew something like this would pop up. I've been looking for another ATV, but doesn't staples sometimes do 20% off?

Dont count on it, I think staples will exclude all apple products on upcoming coupons.

THIS is a more palatable filler.

I have 2 Apple TVs and an older ROKU. I am all Apple with 2 computers, 3 Iphones, 2 Ipads, one IPOD Touch. Buy the ROKU. It gives you a lot more. Free Amazon movies for prime members. Free movies for everyone on other free channels. The Apple TV is nice, but they want your dollars, and don't give you free movie channels. Takes away from Itunes profit.

On the base station, I added the 1.29 filler to bring my pre coupon purchase to $ 100 plus. Rejected. Need to spend $ 115 to use the $15 COUPON.

I want to know the same thing as mrm16. Even on CL, $90 for atv2 is a very good price. I got mine a couple of months ago for $50, the seller was clueless about what he was selling, told me he was selling an atv1 for $50, showed up with an atv2 (box+acc.) instead. I suspected it was either stolen or he needed money for a fix, or both.

Cinemax and HBO have airplay functionality now. Netflix has airplay. Plex allows you to stream any media on your ATV2 or ATV3 via airplay in 1080p (720 for ATV2). The Plex IOS interface is awesome. Amazon Prime may not have airplay, but with these other alternatives, that's a pretty unique situation for preferring the Roku.

I've been using roku for the past few years, have been happy. I am not a fan of Apple's single window(itunes) monopoly(I like the products quality, but I never pay a penny for their monopoly). I want to try my ATV2 offer, jail break it and may sell it later :)

shnitz 03-01-2013 05:53 AM

Anything bought at the kiosk at Staples, if paid in store, is valid for the 20% coupon. I bought an Apple TV yesterday along with my regular purchases, and when they scanned the "20% off anything that fits in the bag" coupon, it applied to my Apple TV. So save another 5% and dispense with the filler.

I think this is a bit of an overstatement. Simply search the plex forums regarding apple tv 3 support. While airplay is possible, integral parts of viewing (pause, FF, etc) remain largely broken. If ten dollars shy of $100 is your sweet spot for a device like this, save that ten and buy the OUYA when it releases in a few months. Native support of XBMC, plex, etc. And unlike Apple's ecosystem, many apps on Google Play are free (unfortunately Plex app is $3 I believe, but XBMC is free).

Just wanted to throw in some thoughts here

Best buy has AirPort Extreme (REFURB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) for about $100 incl tax, free shipping.

If you need stronger signal than Express (NEW here in this deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), perhaps maybe consider the idea of the Extreme (REFURB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)?

Again, BB Extreme is...

Whereas Staples Express is... NEW!!!!!

Trying to understand Apple TV, and other streaming media players for that matter. Is it for some reason better than the apps that are already included on my Sony Blu Ray player? I have Netflix, Amazon Instant Watch, Hulu Plus, etc all available on my Blu Ray player apps - what is different about Apple TV?

Apple TV is the internet streaming device that can stream Netflix, Hulu etc. You can also do mirroring with your ipad, iphone and macbook.

Apple Airport Base Station is a router.

not much different.

1. Better quality - easier to play. better and responsive interface or firmware ( Analogy of comparing iphone with sony phone). Iphone is more user friendly. You might probably feel stuck, lag or slow, difficult to type in or hard to navigate with your bluray player.

2. Mirroring - you can do mirroring with iDevices. - You can watch ipad Movies in your TV

3. can be jailbroken in the future - you can add more apps and FREE channels to watch almost all movies for FREE. So, you can save money for cable or direct-TV

4.better wireless network (wifi) - better range. When I play netflix with my sony player, wireless is dropped s and caused pausing sometimes.

5. Remote - if you have iPhone or iPad , you can use as a remote by downloading their remote apps. The advantage is easier to type in in Search.

jfreak623 03-01-2013 11:14 AM

I am all about apple products but when it comes to streaming boxes go ROKU. Way better.

I have both. The Blu-ray player will have more streaming options. The Apple TV will have less, but the interface is MUCH nicer and more responsive. Airplay from your Mac, iPad, or iPhone is a nice feature to have as is the iPhoto and iTunes integration.

According to the following website, which is the definitive site for the Apple TV3 jailbreak, they have completed beta testing, and are almost ready to release to the public for free. They are working on the GUI, which is the last step.

Specifically in the above link, they said the following...
"Software Development Status Update : Apple TV 3 Untethered Version - Completed Beta Testing is now over. Our team would like to tank all our users who helped us in the beta testing process Current Development Stage: User Interface The software will be available for public download(free) after graphic interface is completed."

There is speculation that it might be released this month or next. Definitely worth waiting for, considering that you get 1080p with the Apple TV3 versus the Apple TV2, especially if you can get it for $85.

That site is a hoax! Stay away from it.Don't post it.

$60 great deal!

ram4miles 03-01-2013 11:50 AM

30% Coupon Match from OD is sweet.

For those who do not have that this is what I am thinking to get the price down to $76.5:

1. Start with top cash back and buy a gift card from one of the giftcard retailers like Plasticjungle, raise, abcgiftcards, cardpool etc (Avg cash back is 3%)
Physical Cards take 3-5 Days to arrive. eGift Cards usually ariive in 6 hours max.
2. Again go to top cash back and navigate to staples. You get 5.5% cashback for staples.com purchases
3. Apply the 15$ off coupon.

Assuming a 100$ purchase, my math:
$100 - 3 - 5.5 - 15 = $76.5

If you have a points earning card, those points still count in. For example, Chase Ink Bold and Few Amex cards offer 5X points at Office Supply Stores. At a fair trade value of 1c/point you pitch in 5% more savings. But this part applies to few % only.

$99 - $30 - $10 = $60 + tax.

Good one!

Here is the link [officedepot.com] to the Office Depot 30% off.

I called my local Staples and the manager said they will honor a competitors (Office Depot) coupon!

$99 - $30 = $70. Not bad!

Yes it should work. I believe a few apps like the optimum tv, HBO Go, Max Go will not work.

i just set this up last week and its pretty awesome. i have no trouble streaming 1080p to the television through the ipad. basically you get the plex app for your ipad, mac, or touch in the app store. the cost is 5 dollars. you then download plex on your computer whether its desktop or laptop. that is freee. you're basically setting up a mini server to host your files. anyways, you tell plex which folders, and files you want to access. you then can login to your plex server with your ipad using the app. allows you to watch whatever files you have on your computer on your ipad. if you have an apple tv, you simply airplay it to the tv.

the reason i jumped on this method was b/c with just apple tv, you have ot use itunes to play your files. this is fine for music, but a lot of movies have to be converted before they can be recognized by itunes. plex converts on the fly so you don't need itunes open nor do you have to convert files and like i said i can airplay 1080p content just fine on the tv.

Thanks! Repped for your response.

not much different.

Great response! Much appreciated! Repped!

Just wanted to throw a plug in for the Airport Express. Most of the chatter has been about the ATV.

I think the Airport Express is Apple's best and most underrated product.

at home I use it to:

-Extend existing wireless network
-Provide wireless access to a TV that would otherwise require an add-on wifi-adapter
-stream music via the optical output.

And when I travel, I throw the Airport Express in my bag and plug it into the ethernet port in the hotel so I do not have to rely on whatever craptastic wifi setup they are using.

i'm sure you can yes. i haven't heard of the player you're using. plex allows you to stream files both over intranet and over wireless basically anywhere. so for example you could be in utah streaming files to your ipad from your home computer in NC.

oh yikes... nice try though. try at another staples? you have until the 3rd to pay for your order (it doesn't have to be paid for in the store you ordered in)

I just went in to a staples that was near by just to "hold" an ATV for me, but I'm going to go and pay tonight or tomorrow at another staples store

OR just shove a 20% off coupon in their face. 20% + $10/$75 still beats the $85 from just ordering online with $15 coupon); (YMMV on the 20% because it's the bag coupon, but the register should accept it... i think it's worked on for quite a number of people doing kiosk orders)

Hmmm I'm going to try my luck and see if can stack both the 30% off and the 20% off. Highly doubt it'll work, but since the latter is a staples coupon, the cashier will just scan it rather than read it.

After several expensive and flaky N routers I ended up with an Airport Express with a 8 port gigabit switch attached. Rock solid, excellent range (house with walkout basement). Can't complain. I've yet reboot it once and I bought it right after it came out.

My expensive routers were Netgesr and a refurb AirPort Extreme (5th gen). I had connection issues with the Extreme.

Free movies for everyone on other free channels. The Apple TV is nice, but they want your dollars, and don't give you free movie channels. Takes away from Itunes profit.

Ditto on this. I had a Roku and got an Apple TV as a gift a week later. Had to return one and wife didn't want me to offend her sis who bought us the Apple TV by asking to return it. The Roku was better hands down. Apple TV seems to freeze more, process tasks slower, and doesn't have Amazon or any of the free options.

The Apple is good, but the Roku is great. (Coming from a MacBook, Ipad, Iphone user.) I'm not trying to TC here, I do think the comments are relevant to this thread if you're comparing the two products which are roughly the same price.

Used the OD coupon in two stores for 30% off ATV at each. Free shipping to home. Thanks OP.

First store staff had no idea they had a kiosk when I asked where it was, so I went to the back where the kiosk is in my regular store and found it. Staff was very surprised. I told manager about this when I was checking out and she rolled her eyes at her pathetic staff.

Second store didn't want to PM. At first, manager said all technoology is excluded. I asked him where it said that. When he couldn't show me, he said OD doesn't sell Apple products. I asked him why that was relevant and where in their PM policy it states that the competitor has to sell the same product. He relented and gave me the 30% off.

I've owned a jailbroken atv2 which I sold for a profit. I now own an atv3 which I received free as a courtesy from an online retailer. My atv3 is still sealed and shrink wrapped because I have no legitimate use for it. I have an Xbox and ps3 for flex and Netflix. And I think airplay is overrated, novelty wears out quick. I won't hold my breath for a jailbreak, but unless one comes out this will continue collecting dust in my closet.

Plex requires a remote server to transcode in order for the streaming to be possible. XBMC just streams the file as it is and does all the decoding local to the system running the software. Other than that, they do the same blasted thing...

Looks like my check in didn't have any $10.. only some free martha stewart cards.

First store I went to wouldn't let me use the 30%.. they said it has to be "in store" and that the kiosk is an online purchase. I then told him that I ordered this in the store. He said this same situation happened with a previous customer and that's what my manager said. They would only let me use the 20% fit a in a bag coupon.

The second store I tried honored the 30% and the 20% fit in a bag coupon. Got it for a whopping $58. The manager told the cashier to print him a copy of my receipt :omg:

if you are planning to go for one more, you may want to go in stores and just get the printouts. Go back in on the third after your third check in (which should be $10 off $75). i highly doubt they will take the OD coupon, but the 20% coupon should work fine with the $10/$75 one. and in case you don't want it, you didn't give them your CC info so they can't charge you

jonmuhlach 03-01-2013 04:36 PM

I'm about to get off from work and will drop by at La Habra Staples, I just hope they will honor my 30% off coupon and the 20% off from the bag.

I was not given the deal from La Habra Staples, but the one in Anaheim Staples, accepted the OD 30% coupon but not the 20% bag.

Amazon Prime may not have airplay, but with these other alternatives, that's a pretty unique situation for preferring the Roku.

I have iOS devices as well and prefer the Roku, lots more content. I don't understand why you would want to fiddle with a second device like an ipad or iphone to then stream to your Apple TV, when you could just get a Roku that is $50+ cheaper and will do it all natively without dependence for a second device? Plex also has a channel on Roku and Roku's new apps allow you to stream content from your iOS/Android device (pictures, music(video is supported on android with a third party app)). However, if you have a large iTunes library and buy content from them often then the Apple TV has excellent integration with those services.

Good to know. I may try it but I highly doubt the 30% will work. I'm just really happy I got one for $58! I may try it again at the store that let me do it, hopefully it'll be a different manager since this guy seemed highly suspicious how I got such a great price.

Just bought one in Santa Clara, CA Store.... it was a Kiosk Order... Manager refused to accept 30% OD coupon on top of staples $15 coupon but allowed me to use Staples 20% with a FREE bag.. so my total after taxes came out around $74 and that includes Paper clip as well :)

I don't know much about Roku. So just curious when you guys are saying Roku is better than Apple TV are you comparing it to the jail-broke Apple TV2 or just a regular Apple TV??

shyam09 03-01-2013 06:52 PM

Hmm thought I posted... Looks like I got shut down at my most lenient staples store... cashier was new and didn't know about competitor coupons, I asked for a manager, and after telling me that he would do it manually, he refused to do it saying one can't discount an Apple product

Should've done the 20% but didn't want to do anything stupid for the future so I just walked out. I'll probably try my luck tomorrow... today just hasn't been my day
I think I'll get it if I can get it for both the 20 % and 10/75, otherwise I don't care since I don't really watch tv and I do have that cheap old streamer from a few months back... You guys get me so hyped up lol

BigRegNYr1 03-01-2013 07:45 PM

I love my Staples..... They let me use the 30% off coupon and the 20% off coupon for a total of $56.74 including the paper clips..... I used the Kiosk...... the didn't let me use the $15 off code though........ Needless to say when I saw the total I quickly swiped my card and ran out of there. This was an EXTREME YMMV

S/N I purchased one earlier at diff staples and that one only allowed me to use the 20% off bag coupon..... $79.20....

It's come full circle. Last week SD'ers played the Staples $75 coupon on the Lenovo Laptop and now it's slight payback to Staples. Unfortunately, no Staples has this in store here in WA state.

Good job but I still like the apple tvs that I got from the "Apple tv test" staples fiasco a while back. Thanks to bestbuy's pricematch policy!

How many checkins does it take to earn the $10 off coupon?

Also, is it worth waiting to try to get that coupon or do we think they will come down hard with a policy on apple products to be excluded soon?

I couldn't agree more. I returned my apple tv because roku can pretty much do amazon on demand, huluplus, HBO go, vudu, netlfix. I don't know any other streamers that can do that. It has Plex media server well where u can stream videos that are in your computer

PAK325 03-02-2013 06:35 AM

I find roku nice, but kind of clumsy.

I got an Apple TV in January and it really has been awesome. The big thing is our ability to mirror from our phones, iPad, and laptops to the tv.

It's been a big difference in my cord cutting efforts. I got an HD antenna, Netflix, Hulu, and my wife has really taken to it.

That was the difference. Roku was fun for me, but the UI was frustrating for her.

Well, this will be my 4th apple TV... One more and I'll have every tv in the house covered.

The only real negative to the Apple vs competitors in my opinion is the fact that every thing must be in mp4 format to play on the apple tv's without airplay. This was a huge issue for me at first but now that I've automated the process I'm fine with it. I'm anticipating the apple tv's eventually will be open to the app store but only time will tell.

If you pick one up check out the following:

If ten dollars shy of $100 is your sweet spot for a device like this, save that ten and buy the OUYA when it releases in a few months. Native support of XBMC, plex, etc. And unlike Apple's ecosystem, many apps on Google Play are free (unfortunately Plex app is $3 I believe, but XBMC is free).

Thanks for the heads up on this device, something to keep an eye on. I don't care about the games really but my kids would like that part of it. I need something with a real remote control as opposed to a controller.

I have a JB Apple TV 2 + XBMC and a ROKU LT + PLEX both are solid players in their own ways. I do prefer the ATV so I don't HAVE to run an app on my desktop all the time.

sye46 03-02-2013 09:30 AM

Roku is nice but where ATV has the advantage is for iPhone/iPad/MacBook mirroring

So convenient when I need to share something with friends and family from the iPad.. That alone is worth it

Hand them the 30% office depot coupon and they will take $30 off then tell them your staples check in coupon code from your mobile phone. So now the math
$99 - $30 - $10 = $60 + tax.

I purchased via Kiosk used the 30% off OD coupon and the $10 of check in coupon

$99.99-30%-$10 = $59.99 +tax.

Seems like a good deal to me. I have a Roku, but I really would like Airplay. I set it up in my parents house, and it is awesome.

well no go on the 30%, but got 20% and 10/75 due to cashier
both stores I was rejected on the 30% because "you don't discount apple products PERIOD"
(ironically, at the first store i went to, i used the 20% + 10/75 and then came back to try the 30% and i was shot down (and this was the nice manager), saying "you can't discount...")... wonder if it's because Apple is based on CA?

which means that in the future, it will be impossible to get a discount on apple products using competitor coupons (and of course staples will add it in their fine print too)...

lol stupid apple brand... obviously retailers offer discounts to it (microcenter is a huge one) and apple does it on black friday and during the summer as part of their B2S promo.... sigh i guess people just think of apple as all high and mighty, :worship: :worship::worship:

didn't want to argue since I always use coupons at these stores so I just laughed and let it slide. Oh wells.
you could maybe try searching ebay for online coupons or the staples coupon thread in SD to find something better than a $15/$100.

I haven't worked in retail for several years, but it used to be that the retailers only had about 2% margin on Apple products. With the rising cost if keeping B&M stores open, it was almost impossible to offer employees any discount on Apple products. The only reason many big box stores carried them was to get the traffic for ridiculous accessory and peripheral markup.

I laughed about it with my wife when we left after just using the OD 30% off coupon, because I'm sure they're eating a minimum of $15 on that.

Did anyone actually find success stacking the OD 30% AND the 20% bag promo or the $10/75?

I went to the kiosk to order it, but the printer wasn't working. Went to the checkout and the manager had to redo the transaction. He then applied the 30% OD coupon by changing the price to $69.99, and then was able to scan the 20% off Bag coupon. Thanks OP!!!!

The Apple TV is use for streaming video to your tv like Netflix and Hulu. Most people use the Airport Express like the guy above. They buy it so they can hook it up to their portable speakers to play musics, or a wireless printer, or to extend their network. I don't think too many people buy the Airport Express for use as their home wireless router judging from this review as well as countless other reviews on Amazon.

If you need a wireless router the Airport Extreme is the most popular option. It looks and works more like a traditional wireless router without the 3.5mm jack for external speakers. You can get a used one from Ebay like I did for $100. The increased range I get is really incredible. I live in a condo and I could not get wifi signal from my parking space outside. With my new Airport Extreme, not only can I get a signal from my parking space now, I can get a signal from across the parking lot!

I am looking to buy an Airport Express station which is why I'm looking at this deal. I plan to use it to hook up to speakers and/or my printer so I can do wireless printing. I do not plan to use it as my primary wireless router although it looks like you can do it.

I think I'm going to give it a try... I suppose I could always ask them to show me the in-store policy if they are reluctant to honor the coupon...

They should honor competitor coupon. Only rude and mean manager will deny it, especially in greater Los Angeles area. Many people got shot down in that area.

hmm IIRC the A5X is a silent update incorporated into the ATV 3...
confirmed: http://www.macrumors.com/2013/01/...-features/

ETA: looks like the A5X model has been released about a week or two ago. Hopefully the ones we get from staples is the A5X (check via the model number above, if it's "A1427 " then it's the "older 3,1) ATV3 and if it's A1469, it's "3,2" A5X). The order number is still "MD199LL/A" but the model number has changed.

while we wait, how are people going to set these up. I do have a iPad, MBP 13" laptop and a win. 8 PC and I'm thinking about streaming from my PC (since it's connected to all my ext. HDDs)... but I'm not sure which program to use. Any suggestions? (thinking about airparrot, but leaning to Airvideo. Don't feel like converting everything to mp4).

Oh i think i read something about plex in this thread, that's also an option. Beamer is a good looking Mac Only App.

What was the name of the Mobile app that got you the$10.00 off?

Thanks in advance

Did the kiosk, apple tv + filler, 15 of 100. However at the register, somehow the coupon took $5 off the apple tv and 10 off my filler, so they wouldn't apply the OD 30%. Ended up using just OD, so $70 + tax, not bad at all!

There's certainly pros/cons to each.. I do not run Plex but do use both AirVideo and AirParrot along with iHomeServer. AirVideo is nice for multiple reasons but will require both the AirVideo server running on a PC and an iOS device to AirPlay to the AppleTV. AirParrot will negate the need for an iOS device to steam to the AppleTV but the quality is not as nice as AirVideo. iHomeServer is out for you as this requires mp4 conversions.

That's bizarre. My estimated date of delivery is still Wednesday, March 6.

Sent from the official Slickdeals App for iPhone & iPod Touch.

Mine was a kiosk order, though, without fillers. Used 30% OD coupon.

lol just remembered I had some free TBs i got from staples last year through a huge PM + Coupon Mistake. Set that up, and I'm in the process of converting all my vids to mp4.

PAK325 03-04-2013 07:44 AM

I'm thinking about using another 30% off and a $10/75 off an Apple Express when I get the check-in coupon.

Those are nice little units. I've got one but I want another to run an Airplay back patio speaker setup.

PAK325 03-04-2013 08:53 AM

Anyone through processing yet?

Mine says available, 0 shipped. Both orders have an ETA of tomorrow, and I already got a call that one order has been delayed to tomorrow (supposed to arrive today)... I think these will ship, but I'll update later tonight to see if it ships

UPS delivered the order and got the newest model 1469. Ordered online with $15 coupon only instead of ordering in store.

15 off 100 coupon not working anymore, they disabled this coupon and made apple tv available to order.

Bummer. I just noticed that both the 20 and 30% coupons are expired. I was working on getting the check in one. Womp.

Mine still says "processing" with an estimated delivery date of Wednesday. Hopefully it still comes at that time.

PAK325 03-04-2013 11:53 AM

Anyone know of another OD or % off coupon that I can try instore along with the checkin coupon for an Airport Express?

ftee 03-04-2013 11:55 AM

Good to know, unless people report otherwise I think it's a safe bet we all should get the latest model

Yeah that coupon expired last night

HofstraJet 03-04-2013 02:58 PM

One order shipped from TX and is set for delivery on Wednesday. Other still processing. Both ordered on Friday at store kiosk and paid at register using 30% OD coupon.

The unshipped order shows full price on the website order summary, though I didn't pay that. Shipped order shows what I paid.
