Yeah, I drew the short straw too. Of the few zip codes I tried, I saw some in California and New Jersey. I figured it was worth posting for the lucky people who have it nearby.

You never can tell with Kmart/Sears. Their sites/inventory system is an unmitigated disaster.

superdlux 03-04-2013 08:28 AM

you can get the HF one all day for this price usually with mucho available coupon.

Bluesib 03-04-2013 08:46 AM

Keep the faith. An oscillating tool is something you have no clue what you need it for until you get it. Soon you will have no idea what you did without it.

That's like saying you should take a greyhound bus cross country instead of flying because it's cheaper (Monetarily anyway. TSA butt rapes and surrendered civil liberties excluded).

HF Tools are damn near disposable. :look: Craftsman quality is heading there, but hasn't yet quite morphed to full turd.

Of course with HF you don't have to use the steaming pile of ***** ***** ***** ******** that is Sears/Kmart web storefront.

ed310 03-04-2013 09:07 AM

I still got the package one new from Home Depot (multi-tool and rotary) that I got a while back for 23. Its a good deal so what the heck in for 1.

mrstangblb 03-04-2013 09:07 AM

Definitely not TC'ing, but I just wanted to comment on what I read last year about the Harbor Freight product - that the electric motor version burned out pretty quickly. I bought the air tool version months ago that is supposed to last a good bit longer.

Woohoo

I've been shopping around for one of these for a few months now. A store near me has some in stock so I'm in for one!

Thanks!!:)

OneSlickHokie 03-04-2013 09:38 AM

had 1 in stock nearby so I pulled the trigger, good price on something that could be handy. Thanks OP

fourml8r 03-04-2013 09:39 AM

most stores by me are OOS, only 2 i could find were too far and were in neighborhoods that i prefer not to go to.

danameless 03-04-2013 09:44 AM

Just ordered one in north jersey, just waiting for the email confirmation! Can't go wrong for $20!

slickosaurus 03-04-2013 09:45 AM

Can't decide if I want to jump on this or not. It would be a nice tool to have. While overall the reviews on sears.com are good, the reviews over the past couple of months are mixed.

bethbathh 03-04-2013 09:45 AM

I just placed my order for 1 now all I have to do is wait for my pick up email . Hope I get one. Thanks

gkwong 03-04-2013 09:48 AM

thanks OP, got 3 at one store and 1 at another

ZMAN3000 03-04-2013 09:51 AM

Got one in Fontana, CA. Thanks.

Mike_R 03-04-2013 09:56 AM

Got one in Layton UT. Paid $5 for the extended warranty since I had points so out the door for $16 with warranty, Thanks,

BrianC811 03-04-2013 09:58 AM

Glad I drew the short straw on this. I've bought too many tools as of late that I haven't been using and this would definitely fit the bill.

Bikeman 03-04-2013 10:11 AM

As of this posting, item is available in San Diego area.

OP, what are uses for this? I thought these were primarily for metal jobs. I was in my sears yesterday and saw bunch of these for same price. Want to know if they are required for a normal household. What can you do with these?

jheidorn 03-04-2013 10:24 AM

None near me at the K, but plenty available at Sears for $72. I think I will pass on $72.

A multi-tool is one of those tools that you wish you had when you don't have it. I have a Dremel multi-tool that I bought because I needed to carve out an angled wooden window sill to accommodate a replacement window. I was able to plunge cut a flat area with it. No other tool of mine could have done that - short of a hand chisel. I've also used mine as a powered scraper. I have no personal experience with this model, but I think a multi-tool is something every handyman should have in their arsenal.

I just got my email my order is ready for pickup. Awesome deal!

cato_x3 03-04-2013 10:36 AM

I can't seem to get the In-store pickup to work right. When I try to search for availability by zip code, it just shows 1 store nearby (20 miles from the zip I put in, even though there are at least a half dozen closer) and says Unavailable. Does that mean that all stores in 300 miles are OOS?

That's what we call, KFart

Fadekyn 03-04-2013 10:56 AM

What's the odds of Sears price matching this since both chains use SYWR points?

They are same company. You can try.

Medic311 03-04-2013 11:21 AM

good price for what it is, but it's a night and day comparison with the 2.5A one.

i had the 2.0A one and it was horrendous - ditched it and upgraded to the 2.5A. it's WAY worth it. the 2.5A also got decent reviews in Family Handyman a few months ago

yelve 03-04-2013 11:35 AM

got ordered cancelled email :(

Sears wouldn't price match cause its considered a clearance item.

I have the HF tool and it's been great. The switch broke and they replaced it no questions asked.
To each his own, but Craftsman quality is not what it was. Do you think this tool is made in the USA?

illogos 03-04-2013 12:46 PM

Managed to pick one up. Thanks for the post.

That is not a TC - this thread is about Craftsman. Someone mentioned the HF tool as a misguided comparison.

That said, some HF tools are quite good as disposables. But only if the job can be done by a low quality tool.

Will not happen. Sears will not price match as they will say Kmart is out of stock.

Descentxxx 03-04-2013 03:04 PM

I'm not seeing a opt to check local availability per the link. Just "item is temporarily unavailable". Are others seeing this now, or am I missing something?

Nevermind, after 5min i tried link and its shows the opt now.

Not misguided at all.
I own the HF oscillating tool and it's pretty damn good. It's cut through everything I've thrown at it.
and the price is the same. without all the sears/kmart nonsense

OneSlickHokie 03-04-2013 04:08 PM

got mine today no problems. the store had 3 more on the shelf (Yorktown VA store)

Does anyone know if the tools that come with this will work with a Fien unit?
