Said no when the product is 30 dollars cheaper on amazon... seems silly that you wont give me a 5 dollar break if Id buy from you...

If they give you 2% discount, they would have to give the next guy a 2% discount.

I understand that...But in the end it is no profit loss.. All I am asking is for the processing fee to be waive on a credit transaction

How would it add up if all I am asking for is the transaction fee waived???? When I am paying with cash where that transaction is waived.. I could go in there and pay with American Express instead which has the highest transaction fee.

The cost is spread across all transactions, because you have a choice of paying with cash or credit. The owner has no way of knowing which you will choose. All of their costs have to be spread across all of the items sold.

You're willing to pay $30 more locally but just want $5 off a $250 purchase if you paid with cash? Did you also attempt to haggle a near price match too? Did you ended up paying with cash or AmEx. I'd go with the later for the points or miles.

Isn't AmEx's better buyer's protection partly why their transaction fee the highest?

Unless the owner of the store was running the register, the person you talked to probably had no authority to make the price change.

Plus like others said, if they give you the discount, there's the risk you might post on the internet that this store gives 2% off for cash, thus hosing them.

What if the owner wanted to charge you for the instant gratification of having the item instead of having to wait 2+ days for Amazon to ship it?
