Awesome, I wanted to get this and expected the usual Target/Best Buy/Amazon ~ $27.99 deals.
My limit on 3D Blu-Rays is $25 and this hit it nicely.
I may have to wait a few more days but the price is right.

I'm sure since I just ordered it, Amazon will have some crazy $19 deal.

krazyskier 03-11-2013 01:10 PM

Wonder when the extended edition is going to be released! :)

taiwan 03-11-2013 01:13 PM

It's a good deal but those who buy it will definitely regret it later. You know they will release a trilogy boxset, and even with a theatrical trilogy boxset you have to watch out for the extended edition lurking for later release. You might want to resist the urge to buy this.

r0l0 03-11-2013 01:14 PM

would order it but i'm afraid it would take weeks to arrive

They said for the holiday season. I'm skipping this release, no double dipping for me.

I think most people will wait a few years for the trilogy boxset to arrive. I already made a mistake buying the theatrical boxset and spend extra money I shouldn't have on the extended edition.

Zimmy 03-11-2013 01:29 PM

I hear all of you.
I was able to pass on the LOTR releases for the EE box sets.

But I really want 3D and this is a great price.
Plus, I can't see what they could possible add for me to wait 9 months for the next version.

jontech 03-11-2013 01:45 PM

NO iTunes file with this one....

The Theatrical is almost 3 hours, I can't imagine them getting more then 9 hours out of the Hobbit.... it would be just more filler

I'm holding out for the super-extended hexalogy set!

RandyMantooth 03-11-2013 02:49 PM

$23.50 for me (MN) after tax.

Xenomorph 03-11-2013 03:03 PM

I'm gonna wait for the extended edition and I hope it gets released in 3D.

odb 03-11-2013 03:12 PM

An Extended Edition is confirmed for "around the holidays." This isn't really double-dipping as they've been upfront about it and some people may prefer the theatrical release (or both). Also, by getting a copy now, you get access to a special preview of the next Hobbit film that will be online one time only and requires a viewing code found in the packaging. You'll want to make sure you receive your copy by March 24th to take advantage of this.

atari 03-11-2013 03:16 PM

Good price, although I'll be waiting for the box set.

Zeke Reisen 03-11-2013 03:25 PM

I'm gonna wait for the 4D version. I hear that's when this gets really good.

The_Linux_Crew 03-11-2013 03:25 PM

I liked LOTR, but this new Hobbit just sucked IMO. Even in 3D. I couldn't wait to get out of the theater, but I stayed for the entire tortuous 2 hours.

I purchased a few things from the sale they had a few weeks back (Ordered Spawn collection on DVD and Seasons 1 and 2 of Treme) and got them pretty quickly. I held one of the packages for pickup and forgot to pick it up so it went back to them, but I called them up and their customer service was great. The package went out the next day, no charge. YMMV, I guess, with WBShop.

Jeremiah4U 03-11-2013 03:32 PM

Dang Nabbit! I don't need all those different kind of formats:

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray + DVD +UltraViolet Combo Pack) Blu-ray 3D

I wanna pick up Blu-ray 3D... period... end of story... the rest is just a waste for me.

Bah! Humbug!

thebtran 03-11-2013 03:36 PM

wow its already out?!?! im waiting until the trilogy!!!

redshirt72 03-11-2013 04:00 PM

Can Bluray output (or even store all the images) the 48FPS version would have? Anyway, saw the regular 3D, fun flick, but lightweight compared to LOTR.

dman99 03-11-2013 04:00 PM

I wonder if this will have the 48fps 3D. If it does it will be a no question buy for me, but if not I'll probably wait and see if I can pick up the 2D version for cheaper.

If anyone finds anything out let me know. I severely doubt we'll get a 48fps copy (honestly, not even sure if my blu-ray player supports that framerate), but one can dream.

No chance this version will include the 48 fps just yet. The current hardware doesn't support it and I don't think there is a tv capable of displaying yet either, maybe a pc monitor could.

b534202 03-11-2013 06:26 PM

I think with the online UV streaming thing, they can do whatever frame rate you want.

If not, then it is broken, obsolete, and all that junk ;)

Why do you want the 48fps version? I really can't believe anyone likes to feel like they are watching a movie be filmed, rather than just feel like they are watching a movie. I thought it looked like crap. Most people thought it looked like crap. I pray that filmmakers don't decide to widely adopt that crap. I am an HD snob with around 250 Blu-rays (which will be "obsolete" if you ask some people, but see this link to see why it's not true for most people [filmmakeriq.com]) and I absolutely hate HFR.

Which card gets cash back from wbstore.com? Just wondering, because I couldn't find it in any of mine.

tavakian 03-11-2013 06:58 PM

I was able to use the $5 off $20 coupon that they sent me on my birthday last October (even though it only said good for 30 days)!. $18.35 after tax not too bad for 3d + UV version!

smilinghelen 03-11-2013 06:58 PM

Is there any way to just buy the Ultraviolet copy for a lot less? Just curious, since I want to get the extended version later, but just want the theatrical copy for now..

Bullitt5094 03-12-2013 06:40 AM

In for one but it says not shipping until the 19th. That will give me time to charge-up the 3D glasses.

chong67 03-12-2013 06:50 AM

CGI is pretty good on this one.

I like the swinging of the cave bridge all around.

have you tried to buy it from flixster? I don't even know if they sell or just activate what you have, but it's worth a shot

inmyveganopinion 03-12-2013 08:17 AM

dead? I only see bluray pack not the 3D pack for the Hobbit

Couldn't you just buy someone's UV code for the movie?

Are you willing to sell me yours? I only want to pay $3 for a digital product, since I intend to get it later when they release the extended edition... I know alot of people who don't use digital UV copies, but at the same time, I'm not going to just say "Hey, can I have that for free!" :bounce:

Be patient. People will be selling the 3D disc only on eBay soon. Could probably get it for about $15

decarillion 03-13-2013 03:34 AM

This year will be the 10th anniversary of the release of RotK...I wonder what NEW vids they will have in store for us, near the holidays....
(it will also be ten years since the new BSG premiered with their mini, as well...time flies...)

Unfortunately the info I've heard about the Extended Edition coming out later does not mention whether there will be a 3D Extended Edition or just a 2D one, so it's potential double-dipping in the 3D category at least. Since I won't touch a 2D edition if a 3D one exists, this means I don't know if I should wait for a 3D Extended Edition or not. Given Warner's lack of detailed info about the upcoming Extended Edition in 2D or 3D, I plan to pass on this $21.99 deal and wait until later this year to see what happens.
