Rome Total War is worth it for the Rome Total Realism mod which makes the game AWESOME.

Side note: have you seen screenshots from Rome Total War 2?

Ahhhhhh-maaaazing!

xveganrox 03-15-2013 09:37 AM

No steam on these?

There's Steam on them and it tells you which ones have Steam on the individual pages.

"This title installs and requires the Steam Client to play."

That includes:
F1 Race Stars
Empire
Napoleon
Shogun 2
Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai

Looks like Rome and Medieval II are not on Steam though.

So far only these games activate via steam
  • F1 Race stars
  • Empire total war
  • napoleon total war
  • both Shogun 2

urbach 03-15-2013 11:40 AM

Got Empire. Thanks!

dmcccdmn 03-15-2013 12:08 PM

The cheapest game here, Rome: Total War, is actually the best of the bunch.

Put way too many hours on Rome back in the day. I can't wait for Total War: Rome II to come out.

stadelta 03-15-2013 12:35 PM

all very good games, they were worth it at full price, let alone these deep discounts

smooth_criminole 03-15-2013 12:48 PM

In for Shogun 2: FoTS

Atlantis1916 03-15-2013 06:30 PM

Do these games require a continuous online connection to play? I have heard that some games are DRM'd in this way.

tclphz 03-15-2013 11:22 PM

Empire Total War is pretty fun. That was lots of hours for me.

I actually have all of them minus the F1 Racing Game.

None of them require a continuous online connection to play. However, of course, you'll need internet if you want to play multiplayer.

Gaia3000 03-16-2013 04:24 AM

I'm clocking 250+ hours on Shogun (both DLC and main game). If you planning to get Shogun, don't hesitate to drop 6$ on the FoTS as well. Totally worth it.

The coop campaigns are twice as fun as the single player, so tell your game buddy to pick this up as well, if both of you are in for the genre.

Ammo87 03-16-2013 07:02 AM

In for empire

I hear that Shogun 2 won't run on Windows 8.. Which disappoints me terribly

mk.ultra 03-16-2013 08:06 AM

Very tempting, I've never played a Total War before. I just got HotS though and I need to focus on that. I'm gonna preorder Rome 2 though :D

Alpha-Leader 03-16-2013 08:17 AM

Do I have to download the client just to get the activation on steam?

I heard it's on the order details on your confirmation email and you shouldn't have to.

compatability mode doesn't work?

redcashmere 03-16-2013 08:43 AM

Hopefully the gamefly client is better than the steaming pile client.

Too many hours on Rome "back in the day"? Wow, I must be getting old. I definitely spent too many hours on medieval back in the day. I love the series, but man they have added SO many more aspects, options and intricacies!

shogun 2 runs fine on mine lol, windows 8 pro x64..

shortyman920 03-16-2013 12:16 PM

I might just buy all of these for convenience lpl. If it's steam activated, say what you want to say about the client but the option to download, and play anywhere and have access to your save files is great. A lot simpler than having to install by disc and transferring save files over between computers.

Spent hundreds of hours on Rome and medieval 2 total war. Wasn't a big fan of empire when I tried it. I bought shogun 2 but couldn't get into that for some reason. If it's this cheap I'll try em out again

Cracktower 03-16-2013 01:21 PM

WOW, If I didn't own these games already this would be an amazing deal. The Barbarian Invasion expansion is awesome. I tend to like Medieval II: Total War the best out of all of them, especially Kingdoms expansion. Shogun 2 a close third. Can't wait for Rome 2!!
yuugotserved- What happened to your gif?? Is it on speed??LOL

shortyman920 03-16-2013 01:36 PM

Just bought Rome, Medieval 2, and Empire for $8. I openly challenge anyone to find me more value per dollar spent lol. This is 500+ hours easily and without mods. Once the mods are on, sky is the limit.

EDIT: Also wanted to add that Rome and Medieval 2 are no steam supported :(. So much for saving my files in the cloud. Oh well. I can still download anywhere. And I'll consider it a small donation to CA.

ryu911 03-16-2013 03:02 PM

i agree with everybody here, these games will take up 100's of hours of your life. I like rome the best, then medieval 2, then shogun 2.

sinigangster 03-16-2013 03:12 PM

whats the difference between all of these, and which is best?

travelingcloud 03-16-2013 04:20 PM

It says it's for Windows but could I active on my Mac?

The time period and location. Graphics are of course better in the newer games. Also, the newer ones have more to them in general.

Rome is thought to be the best of the series by many.

Medieval II is probably a close runner-up.

Empire is the 'biggest' in scope but it's like they didn't fully polish it and it almost has too much going on.

Napoleon went back to a smaller scope and it fixed many of the issues Empire had.

Shogun 2 probably got the series back on the original track.

i think ill get rome since i like their history

angeltoy 03-16-2013 08:34 PM

Man its nice to find a bunch of people who enjoys this series, like most of us i also think Rome is the best, although Medieval also still taking many hours away from my life. Just got Napoleon and The Fall of The Samurai, that should keep me busy until the mighty Rome 2 comes out... man I will def get a new PC just for that game.

cnymd 03-17-2013 06:27 AM

I purchased rome total war and medievel 2... both of these are not working on windows 8. have any of you guys got these to work on windows 8 using any certain compatability settings or privliges... i also purchased both shogun 2's i am hoping at least those work!

cracovian 03-18-2013 05:28 AM

Daaaamn... I used to pay fifty bucks for these...

...

Being able to slaughter masses of attacking Egyptian chariots trying to take my fortress (how will they climb the walls exactly?) was not the best AI experience for me and stopped me from playing this game right away.

wowyahoo 03-18-2013 10:20 AM

WTF? i downloaded it on gamefly client and now i have to re-download on STEAM!! WTF?!?!?

Glock34 03-19-2013 05:27 PM
