Pretty good deal, Staples has them for 599.99. Not sure if theres a Staples coupon out, but if there is you can get a new one @ staples for 500.

A touchscreen 15.6" laptop for under $500 with this combination of hardware? I'd call this a deal. +1

Staples had them brand new at a price lower than this in the past ($420-$450) but that was during a sale price combined with $75-$100 off coupon. If you have to have this machine today its not bad, but there are much better deals out there.

Could you do some light gaming on this machine (ie. MineCraft)?

I too am real hesitant to pull the trigger. It's an i5, but a very slow i5 in comparison. I'm wondering if it'll run WOW in average settings.

Yes - very light

I feel stupid asking, but I just don't understand this stuff. How do the "specs" compare with the HP in this deal:

It should, I am getting good FPS on LoL running at all high and full-screened.

I believe the Staples model has an i3 processor, not an i5.

That Asus is stronger in the graphics department and has a quad core proc vs this Acer's dual core. The Acer looks better in all other regards (more RAM, larger hard drive, touch screen). So the Asus would be better for gaming, video editing, etc, and the Acer would be better for everyday use.

It was an I3 and a 500gb HD

Any suggestion on what I should do? I bought one of these from Staples but with the i3 processor. After rebate, I should be at $429 plus tax puts me a little higher than this price, but new with 1 year warranty. This one if refurb with 90 day warranty but would bump me up to an i5 processor.

The machine will be for my kid for every day use, maybe minecraft and other light games.

Mine came today... nice little machine, however it didn't come with the dongle required to connect via ethernet, not a big deal for me but just an fyi.
