17.99 pretty good, cheaper the Payless.

smartdeals 03-24-2013 01:42 AM

wow, shining like rain boots

Shotgoon 03-24-2013 02:01 AM

I bet the quality on these is terrible. I wouldn't bother. Get one pair of at least decent black dress shoes for your formal occasions and wear them for the next 10 years.

rbwilton 03-24-2013 05:14 AM

Man made uppers, so I''l pass. For $18 I don't think there's many in real leather though.

You do understand that no animals are killed to produce man made uppers, don't you?

But... Man made uppers use petroleum that causes environmental destruction of our parks and other natural resources!

Yes, but... but since we kill the cows to eat Big Macs, we have all this left over cow skin!

But, you shouldn't eat anything that has a heart - you are exploiting living animals!

Yes, but... The energy used to produce man made materials contributes to global warming... (you didn't see that coming?)

And that leads to the death of cows and other living things!!!

Strange world we live in! ... I'm going back to bed and when I wake up, I'm going barefoot !

PositiveSarcasm 03-24-2013 06:43 AM

Man up and go buy a real dress shoe.
real leather equals real style.

I don't know about Kmart, but I walked into Payless and the didn't have one leather shoe. The plastic looked absurdly fake. At least Target uses fake leather that looks like a decent fake.

Funny because Thom McCan used to make good quality shoes. They were never very stylish though. Someone must have bought the name and now they are cheap quality.

Allen Edmonds. With their recrafting service a well cared for pair will last decades.

Those are some serious money though. There must be something in between.

supermanrocks 03-24-2013 07:34 AM

so what is the most comfy dress shoe?

True, if you are buying new. If you wait around for the Allen Edmonds shoe bank seconds sale pairs can be had for a little over $100. In a recent sale I got a pair of black Fifth Avenues for $129 (one of their dressier cap toe balmorals). Certainly more expensive than this deal but the quality is in a different universe. You also have to get somewhat lucky with the size/style you are interested in being offered.

satyajitn 03-24-2013 08:08 AM

I had one of this. It looks like plastic. No Kmart near Dallas so stuck with it.

Go to macys but even macys sells that fake man made crap also. its very hard to find some good shoes

JohnnySuperHero 03-24-2013 08:09 AM

These are good for wearing to the bars and such. That way when you get all sorts of booze and other bodily fluids spilled on them, you don't really care. I've "matured" past that stage in my life....sort of.

Sometimes in your life, to get quality, you must spend the money. You can buy them at outlet centers or wait until they go on sale but still quality can cost some serious money. If you don't want to spend the money for quality then you really don't want QUALITY.

jbloggs 03-24-2013 09:44 AM

The following are also $17.99 when you put them in the cart. Actually any shoes listed as on sale for $19.99 drop to $17.99.

Most men don't wear dress shoes often enough that the need to spend $150 on them. If you need to wear them several times a year, yes it might be worth it. Most offices are casual now and some of us don't have to wear dress shoes more than two or three times a year. I can't see what's wrong with a $60 dress shoes that will last a few years satisfying that need. This isn't a place for brand snobs. The first poster who mentioned these made good points. Also bolding your entire answer is as good as putting all caps which is just rude.

Personally, I like Soft Stags. Super soft and comfortable, which means they don't last long. You can get them for $29 usually.

BTW, my office is not casual dress so I wear dress shoes every workday.

yk88 03-24-2013 03:53 PM

Looks like something you would wear at the prom.

duenor 03-24-2013 04:45 PM

Allen Edmonds isn't just for dress shoes. I work in a high school and you can imagine the kind of punishment my shoes have to deal with. They are called Ashton and cost $329. Well worth the money. Thick rubber sole (without looking lame), solid craftsmanship, goes great with jeans or dress pants. Fits well with crew socks, which keeps my toes warm. Never slips even on wet concrete.

And yes, can be recrafted. They really are well made.

There are many brands that make dress shoes in between, but Florsheim probably covers that market more than anyone. You can find Florsheim's on sale quite often.

Unless my store is different, Marshalls only sells name brand shoes, which you can find many places, in contrast to Thom McAn's being exclusive to K-Mart and Sears, nowadays. I've never owned a pair of McAn's, but outside of their man-made uppers, they don't look bad.

I don't wear man-made uppers, though. I'm certainly not a snob, but I've just never seen a dress shoe with man-made uppers that was comfortable or lasted very long. You can find some nice leather dress shoes for $40-50 on sale and they'll last long 2-3 times longer than shoes with synthetic leathers. Of course, they're also more comfortable and look better, too.

microkelvin 03-27-2013 04:49 PM

should i pick up the pairs that i've ordered last week?
