Tax is on 1149.00 - killer. No better if you buy everything separately elsewhere.

ebay prices, new
18-55 WR - $170
50-200 WR - $250
K-30 Body - $540
-----------------------
$960

Costco
$850 + 8.9% NY tax - $925
$1150 + 8.9% - $1252 - $300 = $952

so, depending on what they gonna charge tax, but still not hot.

I got ya. For me it matters if the ebay seller is grey market.. Warranty?

Also costco easy 90 day returns and 3% rebates with executive/amex is effectively another $25

I forgot about sales tax- I have none in MT but yeah maybe not as hot for you. I'll also probably use the case as this is my first dslr

It is an error on the site, tomorrow tax will be correct and you won't need an adjustment.

Gosh 03-24-2013 11:19 AM

Unless you really need the two lenses otherwise eBay Prodigital K-30 body for 540 is a better deal - authorized, 1 year international, 2 year Canadian warranty. I was thinking about getting on the deal and selling the lenses but make no sense after all.

BigCTM 03-25-2013 05:28 AM

They are only charging tax on 849. I just checked. A pretty good deal if you want the 2 lenses...I do not think you could beat it by much by buying separately (even with tax).

leviT4226 03-25-2013 05:51 AM

I decided this was still the best deal for me, I would likely buy a wide angle and telephoto lens anyway. Maybe if your upgrading this is not as good a deal, but for someone new to DSLR it seems like the best price.

Both the lenses are WR, and you can not beat this deal out the door anywhere else right now, even with sales tax. If you don't want both lenses either buy another kit or sell the lens(es) that you don't want. But don't try to convince me that you can get it with warranty anywhere cheaper.

BigCTM 03-25-2013 01:56 PM

Exactly...Those who thumbed down this thread over it not being a good price are mistaken. Definitely thumbs up from me...

Wish this deal was around when I bought my k30. It's a great little camera and it's just amazing the features it has:

Dual control wheels - easier to make adjustments - most cameras in this price range only have a single wheel (when you have 3 things to control - iso, aperture, and shutter speed - it's way faster and easier to have 2 wheels)

Pentaprism viewfinder - most cameras in this range have a dimmer, harder to see pentamirror

Weather Sealed - I've had mine in the rain with zero worries - even took it cross country skiing (and I'm a crappy skier so I fell on the camera a couple times - it hurt me more than the camera, thank goodness) - other brands, to get a weather sealed camera without a lens would be more than this package combined. Other brands WR lenses cost as much as this package!!!!

Focus Peaking - if you like doing macros where you want just a certain part in focus or if you used inexpensive but good quality manual lenses, this feature helps ALOT!

AA battery capability (with optional adaptor - ebay for under $10) - when you really need power, AA's can be found anywhere. And if you use light weight lithium AA's, battery live is amazing.

16MP sony sensor - one of the best sensors on the market - awesome high ISO capability, great dynamic range (so your skies don't get blown out and you can recover tons of detail from shadows without lots of noise or banding)

ergonomics, ergonomics, ergonomics - its a very comfortable camera to hold for a long time because of a large contoured grip (not like a small lump like other cameras have)

In body stabilization - any lens, even really old ones, will have stabilization so if you shoot when it gets darker, you can use lower shutter speeds and have less chance of a blurry picture

Available in white, blue or basic black - nice to have some options - personally I like the white (but when I bought mine the black was $100 less so I bought it :()

Some will say Pentax lenses aren't as good - that's BS. Not that I'm a pro, but here's some pics I've taken with Pentax lenses:
