I think a lot of people are jumping to Nikon. There is a new 40MP+ Canon being announced in the fall. I will wait till then before jumping ship.

SDreseller 03-27-2013 02:01 PM

this or the $799 deal with the 18-135 STM?

wheelerandealer 03-27-2013 02:08 PM

is the 18-135 worth the extra $220? I would say no

Why not? It sells for $430 on amazon and on the used market it cost $360.

udaygoud 03-27-2013 02:12 PM

Beware !! Watch-out the model number in the picture !! it shows 650D and not T4i

retail MSRP is 499 so 220 for that lens is a sweet deal.

If you do not want it sell it off on CL or ebay and grab the cheapy 18-55

Fontao 03-27-2013 03:35 PM

What about a better lens for it, better zoom, I need this for soccer games. . .

I know that it's not a GREAT deal. But it's a good enough price for me. I've been wanting a t4i for a while now.

He probably meant it may not be a North American model judging by the photo, though USA warranty is stated.

Ezshrkman 03-27-2013 05:08 PM

Not 100% on this.... but i think i remember reading that ebay doesn't qualify for a canon warranty

EDIT= buydig is canon approved

oops =)

T3i/t4i

I've thought about both of these. But at 64....I have LITTLE time left to learn the controls. If I just want to shoot in auto and never touch the controls...are either worth it!

tonkotsu 03-27-2013 06:35 PM

Since this is basically an upgraded t3i, what are the chances of another successor coming out in the next 6 months?

Need a camera before the end of the year and would rather wait for the t5i or w/e they decide to name the successor assuming it comes out with new/upgraded hardware

Burton328 03-27-2013 06:44 PM

great price, but i have my Canon 600D.

The t5i has already been announced. It's basically the same as a t4i except for insignificant changes to the body and a slightly upgraded 18-55mm lens (added STM) for a large up charge (and wait) in price tag. If you're looking for the 18-135mm there's no reason to wait for it to be in stock. If you are looking for the 18-55mm kit, AND you want to do heavy video with it, then there is a small reason to wait if the kit lens is the only lens you'll ever buy. They only released a new model for the "uneducated" consumer really to compete with the D5200, which based only on the body and sensor is probably the better camera. The D5200 is more expensive, though. However; most people are forced into the canon vs nikon line based on lens they either own are plan to own (it's not a bad idea to map out your next lens past the kit lens, otherwise, why did you buy a DSLR?) or the lens their friends own. Neither is a bad choice by any stretch.

For less than $100 you can get a 50mm f1.8 lens and it'll destroy anyone using the kit lens at concerts. I'd also recommend the 24-105L f4 is usm lens, I used it when covering SXSW and actually had it on more than the 50mm, it's fantastic at video and still. If you want an STM lens, the 40mm pancake is a champ, but there's no need to get it and the 50mm.
