Zojirushi 16-Oz Stainless Steel Mug (Smoky Blue) - $25.45 w/ FS at Amazon

4 Attachment(s)
Amazon Verified review from Kasra Godhsi (11/6/12) - "It retains heat so well that I find myself questioning everything I thought I knew about thermodynamics."

I bought four of these in December at an average price of $36.00 ea. Currently, the blue mug is selling at its lowest price ever on Amazon, $25.45.

If you run hot water through the mug prior to filling it with hot coffee/tea/etc., you can expect your drink to stay piping hot for 8+ hours. On the opposite end, adding ice cubes will give keep your drink cool for days. I recently packed a mug of iced water for a hike in San Diego, and noticed 3 days later that the ice cubes had not yet melted.

Smoky Blue: [amazon.com] $25.45
Lavender Pink: [amazon.com] $27.95
Champagne Gold: [amazon.com] $28.07
Black: [amazon.com] $36.19

Product Description: Zojirushi's stainless steel vacuum insulation mug will keep your beverages hot or cold for hours. The compact design takes minimal space while maximizing capacity. Each flip lid is tightly fitted for excellent heat retention, and features a safety lock to prevent accidental opening. Durable and sanitary these mugs have an 18/8 stainless steel interior with SlickSteel™ finish. SlickSteel™ is created utilizing electropolishing technology, these products are non-coated on the inside and instead use an electrically charged polishing process to treat and finish the interior. The results is a corrosion resistant surface that repels foreign substances and stains, creating a smooth and ultra clean stainless steel environment for your drinks.

I have both the blue and black version of this and while they may seem the same, they are actually different on the inside.

Blue - Stainless Steel on the inside
Black - Additional Blue/Grey coated layer on the inside.

Performance wise, both are great and I can't tell the difference - great at keeping things hot for a long time (at least 4 or more hours).

I would highly recommend this over the previous version because they're noticeably slimmer but slightly longer. Same volume.

It's not made in Japan. Thailand - which might as well be China.

Made in Thailand. No more Made in Japan nowadays. I believe the some expensive Zojirushi rice cookers still made in Japan.

bigDeal44 03-30-2013 10:39 PM

specifically needed the smaller one, so got that in black [amazon.com].. good timing thanks

Before I bought it, that was my reason for concern too - However, after having the last 3 versions of the Zojirushi series (All of them were made in Thailand), I didn't hesitate to buy this one.
The sticker at the bottom which indicates the country of origin can be removed - which is the first thing I did after buying it.

So far, I've not had any issues with things like chipping paint or performance with unexpected heat loss.
One tip is to make sure you don't overfill them - even if its foam, because it will leak.

For what reason do you need a $40 mug.......................

I've always been happy with my Contigos for half the price. But maybe I would appreciate it if I had one!

Form and function - the same reason why people buy high end rice cookers (especially in Asia). Please, Let's not start yet another flame war here about the price of the mug - so don't start trolling here.

OP posted a good price for the item - that's all

I am just trying to help people rethink about whether they really want to spend $$$$ on discounted overpriced stuff, so stop trolling over my thread, lol.

The one from Thailand didn't stick well with me, just kept smoking and smoking. As for the China stuff you snorted about, I loved the white one. And after that Thai, I kept going back to the Chinese every half hour. No way either of these lasts 8 hours. :D

Jasiono 03-31-2013 06:04 AM

I have this brands large thermos and it literally keeps my coffee hot for 2 whole days, when full. I tested it once. The temp was noticeably cooler after around the 40 hour mark.

This brand is amazing

epik 03-31-2013 06:06 AM

Hmm, checked the used section for pink, and there was one from Amazon Warehouse for $2 cheaper... might as well, I guess.

cagr 03-31-2013 06:40 AM

Been waiting on a deal for one of these, thanks OP.

Dead at $25.45

StadiumRocks 03-31-2013 07:43 AM

It's $27.49 now for the blue one @ Amazon. Alternatively, you can get it slightly lower at Casa.com ($26.17 total after new customer coupon, shipping and tax). Unfortunately, the coupon only works for one item and free shipping only for order $49 and up.

Coupon code: CASATHIRTY

Define, "overfill"?

While my present mug doesn't keep hot/cold for long, it never leaks, and invariably, it gets tilted or falls over in my bag fairly often. Can't risk leakage.

Might be refurbished.

Follywood 03-31-2013 08:22 AM

the top looks like it can easily be bacteria prone and a bitch to clean

discounteggroll 03-31-2013 08:28 AM

the ONLY negative review on amazon (2 stars) is

"Your standard tea strainer will not fit into the tapered opening at the top of the mug. Had to return this as I didn't want twice as many dishes to wash, but if you want to make your tea in another vessel and pour it into this, I'm sure it's a fine mug."

Wish I had reviews/a score like that.

*spin move*

Thanks, my wife will love this for her coffee.

d.rothman 03-31-2013 09:45 AM

These are so good for retaining heat/cold. I bought three 0.35L from my local Japanese goods store for $24 each. Performance was outstanding! $25.50 is definitely a good price for a 0.48L one.

Don't pour it anywhere in the vicinity of the smaller neck area.
I'll post some pics later to show.

Can not use Prime for this Seller. You have to pay $4.99 for shipping.

Kind of want the gold one (you know, to match my teef) but I am a little concerned about whatever mystery coating is used for this. I'll sleep on it. Thanks op and reps.

Not sure about the country of origin, though.

Thanks. I also have the thermos, just wanted to see if anyone had a strong preference over one or the other. I do like the thermos better not only in terms of lower price, but also the lack of the special coating (I think the health concern is still debatable).

The thermos is $15 at casa.com with "CASATHIRTY", shipping is $4.99 though (or free with >$49)

eliter1 04-01-2013 01:46 PM

Ordered 2 yesterday and got them today. My brother and I both love these so far. I want so see if the thermos keep coffee smell or taste so I can go back and forth with tea and coffee.

wctest 04-08-2013 02:46 AM

This thing is amazing at keeping temps for a long time. The interior "slicksteel" finish is only on the top 1/2 inch lip. The rest of it is just steel. Can someone else confirm? I bought the champagne color.

kabukicho 04-16-2013 06:02 PM

cant tell, looking through the inside the lip has some spiral looking finish and after that the rest of the barrel is smooth, shiny... i'm more liken to say the inside finish looks the same throughout.

dj-3lusion 04-16-2013 06:16 PM

slicksteel = slickdeals, slick steals. The main op pricing has gone up so this deal is dead.
