I recommend the T4i to photographers who:
-want to shoot cinema quality HD video with the convenience of a video camera. The camera is perfect for video bloggers and others who need to record themselves, unassisted.
-would appreciate the convenience of a touch screen LCD, and are willing to take the necessary precautions to keep it from breaking.
-need fast performance, but do not shoot fast bursts of shots very frequently (ie, several times a minute)

However, I’d still recommend the 60D to photographers who:
-shoot events and need quick access to exposure compensation
-are not interested in shooting video or
-prefer to shoot video with manual focus (as many film students or professionals will)
-are not intimidated by browsing through the camera’s menu with buttons and arrows
-frequently photograph action in RAW format and require frequent high-speed bursts of shots

FYI for interested buyers, the 70D is rumored to be announced this month. Possibly resulting in a cheaper 60D?

michi098 04-08-2013 08:23 AM

Great price. At least bigvalueinc doesn't claim that they offer the original Canon warranty anymore. It just says you should contact them for warranty information.

michi098 04-08-2013 08:25 AM

Disregard, merged threads...

They've been saying that for a while... but you think it'll be 70D first and not 7Dmk2?

But the 70D will probably have a street price of $1,000 for a while. This is nearly half...

Why would you sign up for paypal credit card and give them your business...

Anyone know the price on the square trade warranty?

NVM...$84.99 for 3 years parts/labor

Didn't say it wasn't a good price (because it definitely is). I'm just holding out on the hopes of it being even cheaper after the 70D is announced. I'm in no hurry so I have nothing to lose by waiting. Others may feel the same

softspoken408 04-08-2013 09:32 AM

Is this a good price?? Anything cheaper than this deal last 6 months or even a year? Looking for a 60d deal.

There's usually 30 % to 40% coupon codes to purchase one

softspoken408 04-08-2013 09:41 AM

Is it better if i wait for a kit deal?

softspoken408 04-08-2013 09:47 AM

The 18-135mm kit is $979, can i find an 18-135mm lens new under $350 to justify this 60d body? The lens im seeing are over $400 new.

Are those good for Ebay purchase? I tried them before, but it said you cant use coupon code for Ebay purchase.

Can you tell me how to use those 30% - 40% coupon codes for these type of products from Ebay...

Thanks....

buy a used lens for like ~$250

I'm not sure why someone would want to buy the 60D over the T4i or even the T3i.

http://www.lightandmatter.org/201...etter-buy/

I recommend the T4i to photographers who:

TheBaffler 04-08-2013 10:51 AM

why 60D vs 550D-650D

There are a few things that one starts to appreciate when using a 60D and coming from a 550D-650D.

This isn't true for everyone, but once you start moving upwards in camera bodies, you don't really want to move/stay back. One i.g. is the lock button on the settings wheel. Back when I owned my 550D I thought the lock button was the dumbest thing ever. Now I think "why don't they have this on every body?" Like I said, one doesn't really appreciate the small things until you've used them for a while.

That said... I think a touch screen is unneeded (having to rely on being able to see the LCD to change settings).. but I haven't actually used it before. I probably just don't appreciate it.

greenshell 04-08-2013 11:34 AM

how is 60d compare t4i, similar price

RavenSEAL 04-08-2013 11:34 AM

Got the 18-135mm kit for $540 not too long ago, from Staples. :P

Not a bad deal if you're upgrading bodies.

60D > t4i in terms of photography, better ergonomics and arguably image quality.

t4i ~ 60D in terms of video

t4i has AF in video, which is not as good as manual IMO. If you're shooting with thin DOF, you need to manually adjust anyhow.... I dont think any DSLR is really really good at it right now.

60D also does magic lantern, which is a huge winning point in the video department.

Evan55 04-08-2013 11:42 AM

"Big Value Inc" sounds totally legit. What could possibly go wrong?

EricL5314 04-08-2013 11:43 AM

Please dont ever quote endgadget for a DSLR review. These smartphone guys are not qualified. I remember one of them reviewed the D4 as if he was using a smart phone camera.

they're a mega seller with good feedback. Please do research before putting them down or stereotyping them.

even if they arent authorized, the price is about as good as used prices.... it's a good deal.

Butterfli 04-08-2013 12:15 PM

Thanks! Been looking to get one of these for my hubby bday coming up soon and the lowest price I found was on the Canon website for $611 but was refurbished.

An aging body. Canon's tinier, cheaper and newer camera products would probably be a better choice.

Aging body? LOL...are you joking? The 60D's body is better than the T2i, T3i, T4i, T5i and SL1 bodies. It is far more durable and more weather resistant. With Magic Lantern, the 60D is loads better than the T4i and T5i and while the touchscreen is a nice addition to the T4i/T5i, it isnt necessary. If you have an older DSLR and you know your way around, I'd go with a 60D. If you're a complete newbie to DSLRs, the T4i/T5i/SL1 are good options.

Good deal but I think I'll hold out. Once the 70D is officially released or possibly even just announced the price for the 60D will drop significantly like most DSLRs like the T4i and T3i. It's expected to have a release date sometime this year!

erazz61 04-08-2013 03:06 PM

So tempted. Have always been a Nikon shooter, but have been debating switching to Canon to replace my old D200. Question is though, should I save the $600 and keep it for a good Mark III deal?

SDreseller 04-08-2013 03:50 PM

got the d7000 from the 720 deal. Should i sell that to get this + extra money for lenses?

Rebels might share the same sensor, but everything else is different:

- Bigger and much more robust body
- Pro ergonomics, as far as top LCD and access to ISO, Burst mode, Focusing mode
- Faster burst mode
- Longer battery life as it shares the same battery with the 7D, 5D2/3
- Larger viewfinder

Not to say the Rebels are bad, but demo 10min on both cameras and you will notice the difference.

If you don't mind spending more than 4x the amount and enjoy photography, I don't see why not. But personally, I would like to have ROI when spending that much.

Full frames cameras have a much higher dynamic range than their cropped sensor counterpart.

focus peaking
manual audio control
intervalometer
hdr bracketing
hdr video

I think those are all the major ones

If you're invested in Nikon lenses, stick with Nikon. You can always sell your gear, but unless you see something really compelling on the other side of the fence, there's no real reason to switch.

I'm also holding out for the 70D announcement. It'll probably make me decide on staying with EF-S or just going to the 6D since the 7D mkII is supposed to be over $2k later this year.

with 70d around the corner i would not buy this!

DungN 04-08-2013 07:29 PM

I can "kinda" vouch for this seller. I bought 60D for around this price a few months back. It came in a kit, but the kit lens was removed. It is also the japanese edition. But other than that, it's brand new.

DungN 04-08-2013 07:49 PM

are they going to change the sensor on the 70d? Canon sensor sucks!! Bad dynamic range compared to Nikons. But I still shoot good pictures with my 60d

Canon cropped sensors don't suck. They just haven't been updated for a few years...

I know it has the same sensor used in many lower models as well as the 7D. But that's why it sucks.. they haven't updated it. But it was still pretty good upgrade over my 30D.

The one I got was gray.. but other people have gotten the US version. So its hit or miss. There was a deal like this a few months ago. Haven't had any problems with my gray version.
