Wow, lowest price ever! Nexus 7 + Asus case + screen protector for $230 is pretty much the lowest deal so far

Sort of want this for using on the road =p

It's probably lighter than my ipad 3.

mychaelp 04-21-2013 10:03 AM

Amazing price on this tablet! I'd jump on it if I didn't already have a Touchpad and Kindle Fire HD! If you're looking for a comparison in one place for just the feature most of us care about take a look at this guide: http://thecreativealternative.com...-a-tablet/

By the way, does anyone know of a reliable "rumor" site that may hint when the new Nexus is coming out? I've heard July but who knows??? My sister is in need of a tablet and her B-day is in late June.

i think its more mid August that it will start shipping and will probably be very allocated so you might wait a long time till you will actually get it. like this one when it first came out

I like the Nexus.. but 7 inch tablets don't have an appeal. As per all the statistics 10 inchers still seem to dominate and continue to do so.. especially when you have phones like the Note out there at such a large size.

it is a very decent price though...

huhster 04-21-2013 10:29 AM

@mychaelp, the price is not that amazing. Considering you can get a new one from google for 250+tax. Shipping can be disputed, I would not want USPS Parcel Post (Snail Mail) anywhere near my purchased items. Accessories all china made, and obtainable through ebay at a minuscule price. I do not see the this deal being slick.

chip00 04-21-2013 10:29 AM

Thanks, OP. In for 1.

This one is NEW too and free ship. I agree that the accessory is probably cheap made in China one, but hey free is free

Georgito 04-21-2013 10:52 AM

Got it a couple of days ago for 212 on ebay also and new...

tkt0011 04-21-2013 10:53 AM

FYI, samsclub has this [samsclub.com] it's not as good (without screen protector & +tax) but quick & easy return.

just fyi.

yeah, probably, but to what, $199 for the 32 gb? this is still a decent deal to get it now.

Contrary to your impression, I've read some news lately, saying in recent months of tablet sales, 7" - 8" tablet dominated.

The trend clearly has moved to anything but 10".

The iPad 4th generation will have a better resolution. However, at this price point and size, the 7'' screen will be able to maximize pixel density.

Good price in my opinion.

chong67 04-21-2013 11:22 AM

I like the screen size of the Samsung Note 8 which is preventing me from getting this.

smellslikefish 04-21-2013 11:29 AM

I would wait for the new Nexus 7 at this point, unless you need one now.

The only iPad with a retina screen currently is the full-sized one. This Nexus has a 7" screen. This would be great to use with one hand for long periods, such as reading a book, etc. Easy to carry with you, while the larger iPad doesn't fit well in a woman's purse, or a pocket. Depends on what you want to use it for. Retina screen currently means lesser battery-life as well, especially for video, as noted by PCMag.
My suggestion, is go see them at the store, hold them, see which looks best to you. Then make your decision. Just because a screen has a higher resolution doesn't always mean it looks better. Contrast, and colors are important, as are screen glare.

The case is the OEM case made by Asus, I'm sure it's made in China, but then so is the iPad. It sells for around $19. Screen protector cheap yes but probably good quality cheap, ~$5.

If one wants the accessories, than this is as good a value as it going to get for the nexus 7. I don't think the Nexus 7.7 being announced in May is going to dramatically effect this ones price. No more than a 20% drop from retail, ~$199 at most. There's a good chance the 7.7 is going to be higher in price than the current model and there may be little reason to reduce the price on the original Nexus 7.

Typing this from my Nex7 right now. I grabbed one in November and pretty much have it in my hands 24/7. Good deal, grab one.

To each his own.

I'd never want a 10" tablet. Very hard to hold with one hand, and would never fit in a pocket.

A 7" can easy come along in some dockers or dress pants without having to be carried.

I don't get this. Nexus 7 has been under 180 now for weeks, refurb even cheaper. Sell this with screen protector and case for 230 and its FP deal?

The Beast 04-21-2013 12:21 PM

If you're into Android development, make sure you flash custom kernels and ROMs to improve the performance of your tablet. However, stock should work fine for most people.

Because for a new 32GB Nexus 7, they have not been below $230 since Thanksgiving/X-Mas. And the accessories are decent and worth something. In my opinion this is the best deal there has been since Thanksgiving/X-Mas period.

You may have seen refurbs but not NEW. Show me a new one for "under $180?" Other than the somewhat recent refurbs. The new Nexus 7's have pretty much held their price with very few discounted deals. To save 10% I'm personally not buying a refurb with a short warranty.

The new nexus should be announced soon but most likely won't see shipping until late July or August. It really depends on if you want to wait. You could always buy this and then sell it if the new 7 is that enticing.

The Nexus 7.7 rumors as I interpret them are:

Announced in May 15-17, at Google I/O event.
Manufactured by Asus
7.7" 1920x1200 display(294ppi)
2GB Ram
Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU
HD Camera
Slimmer bezel, and Profile
Andriod 5.0(Key Lime Pie)
Pricing may remain at current levels($199, $249, $299), but more likely will be $50 more.

Probably still no rear facing camera, and no microSD slot.

Can't knock the convenience. Had the original Galaxy in my blazer all the time. Will wait for I/O. The price will continue to drop and don't want to "rent" this tab waiting for the next one. My touchpad still works well and manages all the media I need for now.

Does the Nexus have a digitizer that supports note-taking with a stylus..? I mean, just regular notes in a class, with minimal art work involved..? Has anyone here used it in a class for this purpose?

Thanks.

Seriously, how is this a slick deal? That's the price tag for mine in January, but without tax. I heard they ship it parcel post. That's where they throw it in a bin until it fills up. Takes forever. I hate cheaper sellers who use this option.

I agree... too many tech-loving people on SD who go gaga over every single nexus 7 deal. This is a 20 dollar discount from normal retail price on a device that was released last fall and is about to be replaced by its successor in a month.

there's a lot of people who'd rather get it now rather than wait. for example, i figure i could make better use of my 30-40 minute commute each day by reading/studying in the shuttle. i'm not about to spend $300-400 on an ipad used or new. nor am i willing to shell $400 on a nexus 10, or $300-400 on a comparable 10" tablet. i found a nexus 7 32 gb a few days ago for $195 shipped bnib, and already have it. i'll be making good use of it. though i agree, that if i wanted it just as a toy i would have waited until they announce the new ones to grab these on a price drop. is waiting a month to get it for maybe $25 less worth it? to some people it is, to some it isn't. but that's besides the point, this is an excellent price that's available right now for people who want/need it now.

Necessity trumps waiting. If you can hold off then do so. Its basically the end of this products cycle since within a few weeks a successor will be announced. Within 2-3 months or less it will launch. Hopefully they bring back the microsd card slot. (improbable but welcome)

The next generation of everything is just around the corner. The way the Nexus 7 pricing has held should tell you that demand is obviously still there. It makes FP because of this demand.

As with most things, if you can wait, do so. If you can't this is the best deal there is for now.

But, including tax and shipping it becomes more like a $50 discount, so if someone is planning to purchase a Nexus 7 its a decent alternative to getting it from Google.

But, I'm going to be waiting to see what the next Nexus model will bring.

Google has phased out microSD slots, which is a shame. It's never going to come back. Ever.

since its new, i believe the warranty starts as soon as you link your google account with it. since its not from the play store, your warranty is through asus.

YouTube App.

And use of an OTG usb cable, and "Nexus Media Importer" app is a way around the lack of sd card slot, not a great solution but a partial solution.

the Galaxy Note 2 is 5.5".

The most popular reason to buy a 7" vs. a 10" is cost. #2 is portability..

konradsa 04-21-2013 05:46 PM

Glad I got mine for the same price... 4 months ago! The Asus case is crap, doesn't even turn it on and off. And why get a screen protector when you have a case that covers the front. A screen protector will just make it look ugly, especially the cheap $1 included here.

You don't need SD card slot really. 32GB is pretty good sized to store movies and music, and on the go you can hook up a USB drive and swap out some files if you need to.

Don't understand why each and every deal for this device seems to have tax in NJ. :-(

I agree, if you need one now, buy it, it's not that large of an investment. Once the new one is out, this one will probably still fetch $150 on ebay.

Announced in May 15-17, at Google I/O event.
Manufactured by Asus
7.7" 1920x1200 display(294ppi)
2GB Ram
Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU
HD Camera
Slimmer bezel, and Profile
Andriod 5.0(Key Lime Pie)
Pricing may remain at current levels($199, $249, $299), but more likely will be $50 more.

Probably still no rear facing camera, and no microSD slot.

If these rumors are true, would definitely upgrade. Better processor, more RAM are needed, since Android is not very smooth and snappy compared to iOS. Better screen is always nice too. I would definitely prefer the iPad mini over this one here, if it wasn't for the price. The screen on the iPad mini is considerably larger (even though it has a sligthly lower resolution) than the Nexus 7.

Scurbdog 04-21-2013 06:13 PM

Looks like this http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Offici...+case+grey the case and this http://www.amazon.com/Flashpoint-...B009V6437A is the screen protector in this bundle. Glad I got this looks like good stuff.

Should I get this 7" or pre-owned Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1in 16GB for $250?

Outside from the screen size, this Nexus 7 is probably the much better device.

Good deal, but will hold out for a newer model - until then, CM10 Nook Color will do

MeAmSuperman 04-21-2013 07:22 PM

I got this when it was $239 from same vendor through eBay. Only disappointment was the fact that squaretrade couldn't be bought directly from squaretrade site with discount code. Only option was to purchase full price ST warranty sold on eBay as well.

yarnim 04-21-2013 07:27 PM

man why the heck would anyone get things like this when you got a 5.5 inch galaxy note 2 that you bring everywhere? better hardware specs and slightly smaller screen for way better portability completely eliminates the need of such small tablet....esp without data package. dont everyone already own a galaxy note 2?

Gator15Bait 04-21-2013 07:27 PM

Great find! Thanks!

A Galaxy Note II is about 3 times this price, + a monthly data plan. So your answer in a word, is COST!

Same as the iPad mini.

Yeah, we all own a note 2

I've been poking around for a Nexus 7 for a while now and missed some of the refurb deals. After some consideration I do think this is a pretty good deal. New, longer warranty, and case pretty much make up the difference from the ~$190 refurb deals.

Just bought one.

B-Lab 04-21-2013 08:42 PM

This came at just the right time for me. In for one.

dcobb 04-21-2013 08:45 PM

Got this exact one months back on a slickdeal for a few bucks cheaper. Great tablet, easy to t root, good battery life. Glad I got it. I don't use it as much as I'd sometimes like (but then I'm not that much of a tablet nut) but it's still been a worthwhile purchase

Well, I mean any products warranty. The manufacturer usually asks for a receipt and when you say you bought it on eBay they will say it's not covered. The same thing with square trade as far as extended warranties since you can use coupon codes on their standard link and may have a special link for eBay purchased products.

as I know, google has some funky warranty checking, please correct me.
when you buy a new, register your table online and tight your account with your tablet, your warranty will start at that day.

I think you have to buy squaretrade wraanty from (online) ebay directly during paying/checking out your ebay transaction.

Tempting but waiting to test drive a Fonepad when it comes to the US. Basically a Nexus 7 with Intel inside and works as a phone, plus microsd slot, for ~$250 carrier unlocked and supposedly works with T-Mo and ATT's GSM networks.

Any thoughts on that device??

Scurbdog 04-22-2013 12:08 AM

811 sold so far, how many do they have I wonder?

I'll be surprised if it releases in the US. CPU, and GPU are underpowered for Android Jelly Bean.

Ok now I'm confused, I read that this tablet can't do HDMI output or play media from a flash drive or SD card attached to an adapter.

Thanks for correcting me on it. Made me dig past the product page. Lack of sleep is getting to me.

MHL is a hardware nogo. But there is a way for OTG.

Pretty good deal.. Too bad already have an 2 tablets and a bunch of laptops :) I played with my friends nexus 7 and it's quite simple... works just as good as my ipad 3 and defnitely better than my shitty first hp tablet ( it was cheap! )

No, let's forget about the tablet for second. I mean any product a TV or anything purchased on eBay will not include the receipt from the company, but from eBay.
So if you purchased something from buy.com on eBay it will include the receipt stating purchased it on eBay. You won't get the same receipt that you would get purchasing directly from buy.com.

I have always wondered whether the receipt is valid submission to manufacturers for warranty claims. Also, let's say you do not want to purchase square trade warranty on eBay because you have coupon. I would think they would not honor the warranty for the product because it was purchased through the regular link, not the eBay products link.

please read my posting, this is related only for a new google tablet warranty by buying on ebay.
as I know:
you have to contact google to get warranty information, and google will refer to asus later.

as I said on my posting, you have to buy squaretrade warranty directly from ebay during checking out/paying the ebay transaction. Squaretrade will acknowledge their warranty is valid for ebay transaction.

I read your posting and understood that, but not all products allow you to link them. In fact, the majority like cameras, GPS, TVs, etc. don't. However, my question is in general to anyone who may have experienced such an issue. I will like to know…

Simplest answer: buy an iPad 2 refurbished from Apple.

I'd rather stick with new N7 warranty, since this thread is related to new N7 only,
on Squaretrade:
this pretty general on squaretrader warranty on ebay. they will honor the warranty as long as squaretrade warranty link shown up, and you bought it during ebay transaction checking out.

on my understanding, read squaretrade warranty fine-print, if not fully understand, try to call them couple times to check or get straight answers.

This has been the price since last year for a 32gb nexus 7 that floated around on buydig as well.
Why would any one buy this when the new Nexus 7{or 7.7 according to blogs} is going to be announced next month?

lazmason 04-26-2013 08:29 PM

Mine arrived today with the batetry cable unplugged.

are we taking transformer prime? I don't think is a bad tablet unless your WiFi signal was weak and really cared about the gps being a did. I had it and thought it was great but moved on to the infinity.

as for the nexus 7, I'm really tempted to find one just to mess around with. think I'll wait for a dirt cheap 8gb model. anyone heard anything new about the new rumored nexus?

Spend $99 more and get an ipad mini... And throw another $10 for the screen protector and the case...
