DOES NOT WORK ON OIL

A little contradictory on the boiler plate.

It doesn't work on oil, even with in-store pickup ?

Pittsburghfan7 05-07-2013 07:36 AM

Great Post

I had just ordered an exhaust manifold with the 15% off. I was able to cancel that order and reorder it with the huge50. Thanks for the huge discount!

I will agree it does sound hokie. However, the coupon does not work on motor oil. The contradictory sounding part was basically stating that oil is not available for shipping, if you purchase online, you have to select in-store pickup.

I could be wrong on this, but it's possible that AAP tracks the serial number on the battery.

I say this because I asked about getting a dated receipt (for warranty purposes) on the last battery I bought from them. (Didn't get a physical receipt because I took too long to pick it up and it was already out of their "in store pickup" system). They said I do not need a receipt because they can identify the date of purchase based on the serial number on the battery.

Any thoughts on this?

Sweet!! In for a belt tensioner.

Sigh.. no coupon code works on Griot's Garage 6" Polisher now :( Can't find a deal on GG 6" Polisher or PC 7424xp.

xifter 05-07-2013 09:29 AM

Nice! Was able to get an ignition coil pack for my Focus, spark plug wires, and new plugs for 82 using TRT41. Should help keep my machine running for another 135k miles.

Successfully apply the code, but the price doesn't change at the complete order step during check.
What's going on?

I am trying to get a battery and a frontal light. The total price is $110.

Your total might be including the "Core Charge" for the old battery.

Unless you can split it up into multiple purchases, $50 is about the most you'll be able to save in one shot at AAP.

uinscript 05-07-2013 10:09 AM

RedZombie78 05-07-2013 10:11 AM

Make sure you save your receipt. These online in store pickup purchases are not saved in the stores computers, as I learned yesterday trying to replace a battery under warranty.

opfreak 05-07-2013 10:14 AM

check rock auto/amazon for prices as well.

was looking at getting brake rotors & pads @ advance. Turned out even after coupon both rock & amazon were cheaper. or the same price for higher end stuff.

Never had an issue with the 3 or 4 stores around me, so you must have dealt with a bad location. It's like any chain, sometimes you deal with weak links.

<sarcasm>Thanks for the info as to why they are not a good store. You almost had me convinced. Must be break time at AutoZone.</sarcasm>

Yup was about to place an order and noticed this myself.

What's strange is Advanced Auto isn't in California yet they still charge CA tax.

Not sure why I can't get this to stack...can anyone get this to work out?

sprintermatt 05-07-2013 10:40 AM

in for 6 filters... 3 oil and 3 air for a couple vehicles. Decided to get em shipped because it is a major pain to use their checkout system. Half the items are unavailable for shipping (usually the lowest priced). They won't likely get my business again if they don't improve their shopping cart issues.

jholman76 05-07-2013 10:43 AM

Cool. Picked up an Optima battery. I tried to do this last time this coupon was on the FP, but they had it "on sale" for $10 less than retail so I passed. I got $50 off of it this time. Not too bad for a red-top.

Plus if it ever dies, they have a 3-year replacement warranty. I'm liking that! I was looking at Amazon, but apparently they sell Optima batteries, but don't honor their warranty. Plus... who wants to ship a battery back for service?

jcook740 05-07-2013 10:46 AM

Need a decent lift or something to start changing oil on my own cars. Suggestions will be repped all up in here :)

Any thoughts on this?

All batteries have a mfg date stamped on the casing or post... and I don't believe they have a unique serial number. Each mfg is a little different, but many use alphabetical letters to represents month and a number for the year. something like this:

1 -Locate the sticker or stamp on the battery that has a string of letters and numbers arranged in a code. On a Motorcraft battery, this is located on the side of the battery case.

2 - Identify the first character of the code. The first character will be a letter, and will be one of the letters "A" through "L." The letter "A" corresponds to the first month of the year, January, the letter "B" corresponds to the second month of the year, February, and so on. Thus a December month of manufacture would be indicated by the letter "L."

3 - Look now to the second character in the code. It will be a number (0-9) that indicates the year the battery was made. The number corresponds to the last digit of the year. For example, a "9" would correspond to the year 2009, while a "6" would indicate the year 2006.

4- Ignore the remaining characters in the code, as they are not important in regards to checking the date of the battery. Put the two pieces of information together from Steps 2 and 3 to get the date of manufacture for the battery. For example, "C8" is the code for March of 2008.

Don't understand your problem with the store. Their parts are the same quality as any aftermarket dealer in my area. They sell Wagner, Beck Arnley, Moog, and all the same brand name oil, coolant, etc. as anyone else.

Some of their products are crappy, but every store has crappy stuff. As the consumer, it's your responsibility to research and avoid that stuff.

Nope, its just a sticker (color coded per year) that has MM/YY on it. You still need a receipt because they won't keep replacing batteries for free every year and your replacement battery under the warranty will have a newer sticker so yes you need it.

gordgeck 05-07-2013 01:11 PM

Ok, hope this doesn't break any "rules", but there is a trick with these.

This is basically 40 percent off, but you have to buy $100 of stuff.

Well, if you only need $50 worth of stuff, just add anything else to go over $100 then return the other stuff.

You still get the discount on what you bought (percentage wise) as they pro rate it.

i.e. if you need $50, spend $100, return what you didn't need, that $50 purchase was only $30.

Just saying.

ceramic brakes have least dust/noise. make sure to put the anti squeal on the BACK of the pads and lube up the moving components of the calipers where applicable.

Not going to be using it often, maybe once or twice every year only. Just wanted one after doing a bit of research and asking around other forums but now AAP killed the coupon for GG polisher.

Check out the review here:
http://www.autopia.org/forum/car-...-6-da.html

if you are really getting one, get a new backing pad, the stock one sucks

I read/skimmed through the entire post on autogeek or somewhere already and seems like a mix review on it.

My combo thought was get a polisher (GG or PC) + Meguiar's DA Microfiber Correction kit that includes a new backplate.

But then I also have a budget of under $200 at this moment. So getting a main brand DA polisher + the kit is over the budget.

HUGE50 will get you $50 off $175. FWIW I buy almost monthly from Advance and I can't remember the last time a $40 off $100 WASN'T available if you look. example: TRT41 is also good for $40 off $100 and A124 is $40 off $110.

chomdh 05-07-2013 03:08 PM

Bought an autocraft gold battery with trt41 last night. Was $125 got it for $85. Not to shabby.

vrbaba 05-07-2013 03:15 PM

None of the 40 off 100 is applying.

Plus, a new browser shows different prices for the same pads, weird.

NVM: something is odd with the session, or the specific items.

I know that it is not supposed to work on oil, but I have experimented a bit and found that it works on Pennzoil synthetic oil.

natedj 05-07-2013 05:31 PM

None of these codes are working for me. I tried IE and Chrome, I tried the 40 off $100 and the 20 off $50 and still nothing. I pissed away about 90 minutes on this :(

elnino2783 05-07-2013 05:40 PM

Has anyone ever used these Lock-a-Socket trays? I'm tempted since I got one of those craftsman deals on Christmas that didn't come with any storage whatsoever, and these seem useful in that you can carry around what you need without having it fall all over the place.

Which one exactly?

I added all the Pennzoil synthetic and none of them got discounted.

Most of their coupon codes won't apply towards items on sale. You would have to add up to $50 worth of stuff not on sale

Are any of the items in your cart already discounted? The coupon code won't apply to those items and may screw up the whole transaction.

peace_noel 05-08-2013 02:49 PM

Got me Wearever Front and Read Premium ceramic pads for 68.00 to the door.

I called the guy cause i was .02 cents from free shipping so he let me place the order thru him. Turns out the prices on the site are NOT the prices thru telephone. Mine were cheaper.

That guy saved me 13.00 and i thank him.

CC20 is 20% off. Just got it from a chat rep today.

patpatpat 05-10-2013 04:32 PM

Used code ES123 today on $50 worth of merchandise (wipers, air filter and sparkplugs).

To previous poster - Seafoam @$7.99 does not count towards the $50 requirement.

Why not make multiple orders with multiple accounts to save more money instead of just one order.

Dr. J 05-10-2013 06:55 PM

A couple notes about this:

- Don't ASSUME that a parts order will necessarily be cheaper with this (or other) AA coupon vs. places like Amazon, Rock, NAPA, etc - in the past I've done comparison shopping and often the AA coupon route has prices that are just as good as the other stores' everyday prices.

- For fillers don't forget the shed - you can find maintenance parts for a lot of lawn equipment @ AA - for example I use Purolator oil and fuel filters for my JD, along with NGK plugs.

- Alternatively you can stock up on stuff that doesn't "go bad" - I bought a bunch of windshield wash with one of these coupons awhile back (not $100 ), but I saved 40% by buying in bulk something I'd buy at regular intervals anyway.

chavezone 05-11-2013 10:43 AM

Thx OP, I saved $20 on a head gasket set and new head bolts with the DOW19 code, The cheapest before I found this deal was amazon for $105, I got the same exact set here for $85 shipped
