I actually found it cheaper to go through the regular budget website and put in the codes than through Costco... it was 10 dollars cheaper for me.

any way to waive underage fee on this deal?

Get a fake ID? :D

I'm not TC'ing but just for comparison sake check out http://www.carrentalsavers.com/hawaii.html for car rentals on Hawaii. I've always had really good luck with them. Costco may be cheaper, I dunno. For other areas you can just drop the Hawaii part of the URL. A bonus to going through them is your reservation is modifiable whereas I believe Costco's is prepaid. Last time I went I had to cut my trip short by 3 days. If I had prepaid I would have lost 3 days worth of $$ but because it was modifiable I just returned and didn't have to pay for the last 3 days.

I would recommend checking out discounthawaiicarrental.com. Extremely cheap prices for Hawaii that could be the lowest.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just compared both of the websites suggested for the same dates and the deal I posted seems to still be cheaper. I will use that as comparison going forward though.

Yup the Highway Surcharge fee comes from the state. Almost all car rental companies in Hawaii will charge that.
The customer facility charge is required for all aiport car rentals. You can search for non-airport locations, but the rates are higher.

Sorry, perhaps I should be more clear. It's a slash in my post, a dash in yours. Fluke or not, I was able to book for this "blackout" period as long as my date didn't fall exactly on the aforementioned dates.

Costco isn't prepaid unless that changed in the past 3 weeks. I booked a rental through costco for Hawaii and I didn't have to pay for anything. I just reserved it and I have a printout to take with me to the rental place when I get there. :)

I booked 3 weeks ago for a week in KOA and compared the prices to this budget deal and my deal from costco was cheaper.

I just looked it up on costco for shits and giggles and a better car for my week rate was cheaper than my previous rate (and budget's), so I just rebooked. TU for getting me to check again and saving me even more money. Lol.

Seems unlikely. The T&C state:

Renter must show Costco membership card at the time of rental.

Probably not but its a risk. You could always make a fuss and say its a vacation the last thing you would bring is a discount warehouse membership card.

Good for those who get a big discount. I only see less than 10% discount over enterprise, and the budget location is way further than budget.

This is 50 bucks higher than my price on carrentalsavers.com I booked last week I got 9 days for 229.99 tax fees included. Out of Clearwater in June..Had to check though thanks

badstink 05-08-2013 05:16 PM

The price I was just quoted at Budget.com for fullsize for 11 days out of Lihue was just over $440 (including taxes). Same price was quoted at CostcoTravel website.

But 2 days ago I booked an Avis fullsize thru CostcoTravel for $398 (including taxes).

So this deal wasn't a good one for me.

I have a five day rental in Lihue that I booked yesterday morning when prices dropped like a rock (and later climbed back up). $210 for Economy through Alamo. Wish I could give this a go but I'll be there in July during the blackout period.

SAN_MARINO 05-08-2013 05:43 PM

The crappy fees & sales tax cost more than a rental/day = $33.58 and 3 day = $61.71

What are concession recovery fee & customer facility fee?

aloharacing 05-08-2013 06:13 PM

Thanks OP. I did a quick price comparo for my trip over Memorial Day weekend, and it turns out to be higher, even with discount and coupon. I booked via carrentalsavers and Fox, with a difference of about $30.

I used autoslash solely for car rental reservations until they had some issue with vendors and were left with 1 or 2 offerings. Now, I use carrentalsavers, which is pretty much the same (minus the auto re-booking at lower prices). Every couple weeks leading up to my trip, I'll recheck the rates and grab the best one if the prices drop.

bluevideo 05-08-2013 07:35 PM

Thanks OP, saved me about $40 off my prior reservation, which itself was a promotion $50 less than my original Costco rate. Doubt I'll find better than $174 for a weekly BTV-JFK oneway.

vajurewi 05-08-2013 09:45 PM

Good deal with the coupon code but outrageous fees for a 2 day rental out of OHare -
rental = $43 Fees and Taxes =$42 for total of $85 for a fullsize car.

bitachu 05-09-2013 12:16 PM

pretty nice discount.....weird that the costco website has a slightly different bcd code..

W852872

JohnRambo 05-09-2013 02:59 PM

Got an intermediate SUV (Escape or similar) out of Seattle airport Saturday to Monday 8 days for $252 first week of June...

Got greedy and tried to swap the $20 coupon off a weekly rental for the $30 one that recently came out, on a new reservation, and now the offer does not work with coupons, as it did initially.

So rebooking it resulted in a $280 for 8 days, still pretty good at $35/day, but no coupon. Needless to say I will stick with the original deal.

Found a steal of a deal at CostcoTravel.com for Budget car rental in Kauai. Price will vary based on dates and class of vehicle selected.

I didn't have time to check but you may find similar pricing at other airports in Hawaii. Good luck slick dealers!

Dropoff Sat 6/22/13 noon

Oh crud. Sorry everyone. I had searched for "Kauai Car" and for "Lihue Car" but the other deal didn't appear in the search results. I just wanted to alert others to the super low prices available right now in Kauai.

I stumbled into the lower prices tonight while trying to beat an Alamo car rental price that I had reserved 2 nights ago @ CostcoTravel. It really paid off as I lowered my 11 day rental cost from $350 down to $250. Two months ago the lowest price for the same rental was $462.

I went through the Costco Travel site and got a car rental during the blackout period (8/8 to 8/12). As expected, it didn't apply any discount to the rental rate. However it did apply a one-category upgrade coupon (subject to car availability). I tried it later by going direct through the Budget website. It seems to work regardless of which BCD you use, so some users who can't use the MUGZ041 coupon may find it useful:

Coupon Code: UUPZ011

i did this deal (not even thinking to share here, sorry) last week. i retried again today and it was $27 less for 8 days in tampa. the best deal seems to be a week. adding those 12 extra hours on the 8th day added $50 to a $130 rental. still far less than anything else i've seen.

broskych 05-22-2013 06:27 AM

I only have a 4 day vacation. Can I reserve for 5 days and bring it back a day early without a charge? It would save me a good $30 to do so...

SHUANG 05-22-2013 06:48 AM

Sorry if this has been asked before...I followed OP's instructions and reserved a car, but don't see anywhere says you have to be a Costco member...will they require me to show the member card when I pick up the car? thanks!!

terenceng 05-22-2013 10:22 PM

Is anyone getting this same problem? I used the 2 codes successfully for a week rental in Kauai in August and my 1st quotation page gave me $167.
But when I go ahead and select it, the price changes to $242, even when it states that all the discounts were applied.
I even booked it to see if there was a mistake, but it gives me the higher rate.
I have tried this over the past few days and always the same thing.
Any help? Thanks

I tried this code on 2 rentals in june (OGG and HNL), and it was almost as cheap as the best I was able to get with carrentalsaver, so I left those reservations alone...

I was also able to save $50 compared to the same web search over the weekend for Labor day week in SFO. However, I am concerned about requiring to prove I have a COSTCO membership (I don't). so I kept the reservation (pay at counter). I will continue to search for a better rate, and perhaps a backup reservation in case budget won't give me the reservation without the costco membership...

nomadpp 06-12-2013 11:22 AM

Booked a 2 day at SFO. It's $10 cheaper than the rate shown on costco's travel site.

CAbound 06-13-2013 04:28 PM

My booking was accepted using the code for a rental beginning 6/30/13 but the the week after which would be in the blackout period. Will I have a problem do you think when I pickup the car on 6/30 that they say the week after is in the blackout period? The system used the code and accepted online the week after.

Costco cheapest rate finder is awesome! Found me a better deal than this one. Additional driver is included with Costco. The cheapest rate for me was with Alamo.

Commentary 06-17-2013 08:12 AM

If you want Marriott points, this is not a bad deal with Hertz.

I find weekend deals quite reasonable. Too bad promotion ending soon. But I still find decent rates after June 30 using the CDP code.

DrRad 06-17-2013 08:12 AM

Excellent deal, budget has great cars.

ivyblue 06-17-2013 09:18 AM

Cheapest I can get a car for Anaheim California July 21st through July 28th is $136, is this a good deal? Is this for unlimited miles. I found one on priceline unlimited for $200 for unlimited miles

oghowie 06-17-2013 09:30 AM

Damn, I'll be in Hawaii in late July.

I have the same question. Rates are about $40 cheaper if I choose a 5 day instead of 4 day rental.

ivyblue 06-18-2013 08:46 AM

Should I add loss prevention to the rental car? I have never rented a car before?

Where are you going? Depend on the crime rate of the city. Use American Express to pay for your rental cuz this card will cover the car insurance. They will try very hard to sell you extra stuffs which you don't need.

Make sure you don't leave GPS, wallet/pulse, cell phone, or anything in your car. Thieves will steal anything, they use "smash and grab" technique just like robbers.

Do you have Capital One credit card? My friend said it will cover as well. By the way, you can bargain with Enterprise Rent A Car. Just tell them to beat the price and they will price match it.

I don't think serve American Express will cover.

Anaheim is a pretty safe city. Just don't go to Santa Ana.

Are you visiting from out of state? Going to Disneyland?

Hi,

I think it covers only the deductible portion and the rest has to come from your auto insurance, is that not the case? Any ideas what in case you don't have comprehensive, have only 3rd party?

Thanks,

kingsofleonl 06-19-2013 07:37 PM

Thanks OP, reserved one!!

CAbound 06-23-2013 06:55 PM

Our trip is a week away so I thought I'd check Costco Travel again. Wow, the Budget rental price went down over $100 for the week so I rebooked it. Crazy good $142 total for Camry size for Sunday to Sunday. I saved pretty much the exact amount to just prior splurging on Economy Comfort seats one way on our flight to LAX. Now that's serendipity! Thanks slickdeals!

AllyFrizzle 06-23-2013 07:04 PM

Do you need a Costco membership to take advantage of this? Will they check for a card?

anatolia 06-24-2013 09:00 AM

Is this deal better than priceline or hotwire? I need to rent a car for one month in July.

I was carded. As a matter of fact, the agent actually made a copy of it (along with my license). However, I am sure it depends on your rental location.

Ah, alright. That's not a chance I'm willing to take, I'll let the real Costco members take advantage of this one. Thanks for your reply!

So far all my rentals have been cheaper through here.

jackass124 07-17-2013 10:34 PM

this is a great post! quick question...if i book through the Budget website, with this promo, do i still get the 1 free additional driver, or does the booking have to be made through Costco Travel?....reason I'm asking is cashback is available through a particular site...also, if I do the pre-pay option on the budget site is it non-refundable?

kliu002 08-01-2013 10:44 PM

does using the Morgan Stanley code waive the Under 25 fee?

zapiens 10-01-2013 07:22 AM

Still works for October rentals in Boston, thanks OP! Repped.

RichardA7531 10-02-2013 12:57 PM

Wow... Still works for a 1 week rental over Thanksgiving, and knocked $80 off the minivan rental I already had reserved.

Something, I went directly to the Budget website and used both those codes. No where in any of the pages, and of the confirmation pages, any of the emailed confirmation receipt I received is there any mention of "costco". Does this mean non-costco members are OK to use these 2 promo codes?

newage44 10-02-2013 01:15 PM

Tried and got error message; tried with either code as well at regular budget.com online

faiz_23 10-05-2013 03:52 PM

This code still works like a beauty. I got an intermediate SUV for $120.49 for 8 days @ LAX...WOOOT WOOOT. Taxes are $38.57 which makes it $159.06 OTD and with discover the insurance is covered. Befrugal has cashback which gave me $10 sign up bonus along with 3.5% cashback plus discover 1% cashback. Costco, slickdeals and discover has me covered. Whats in your wallet?????
