No commitment devices have been 45+% off since 5/1 though YMMV now. Even stacked with HTC $100 rebate making it $250 + tax.

Not sure where you're finding non contract phones for 50% off? All I see is a thread to trade in phones for credit...

I think he's talking about the stupid buy phones from Radio Shack, for 50$ and trade in for 100$ *Deal*.

PhawkYouToo 05-11-2013 09:39 PM

$619 for something that is locked to a lousy provider......no thanks!!

speckledpig 05-11-2013 09:39 PM

Very tempting. I love my GS2 but damn this is the lowest I've seen the S4. I'll have to wait a bit.

Good deal.

kyunbit 05-11-2013 10:20 PM

I still don't understand why these no contract phones for $500+ are deals. Can't you get these phones for <$200 and then pay the ETF of $325 and disconnect whenever you want?

No you cannot. Factor in first month data plan activation charges.

Seriously. I'd hop on this so fast if they just had unlocked t-mobile. Epic fail.

vedau 05-11-2013 10:47 PM

Well maybe they're just being competitive cuz I believe Tmo is selling it for $630. I hope the complaint on "buying 16Gb but only ~9Gb usable" will pull down the price some more. Having read about that I agree that flagship phones should have at least 32GB storage built in. After all OS and apps will keep growing in size. Thankfully Samsung allows for external microSD, but to me that's useful for media and picture storage, not the same as internal storage. I consider the phone's internal storage as the OS partition counterpart on normal computers where I expect to use it for OS and apps. I'm waiting for more news on the Korean LTE version and see when it will go global. People say that the Korean LTE version won't work in the US but I certainly hope it will. Samsung should make it work in the US. And the Korean LTE is way more expensive too. I hope that's just because demand is high at the early adopter stage..

I'm with you. My wife needs a new phone badly and we are grandfathered into unlimited data plans. Verizon has little options right now for high end phones so we miss out on all the good deals while all the GSM phones are dropping in price.

AT&T has available right now HTC One, Xperia Z, Galaxy S4, and Nexus 4. While stupid Verizon keeps me waiting...

How does ATT have Nexus 4? Does it support only high speed internet on T-Mobile frequencies?

Or is there a different verison of Nexus 4 that works on ATT freq

Not much of a deal...for $5 more, you can buy the HTC One unlocked and straight from HTC [htc.com]. It says backordered, but it comes in and out of stock almost daily.

Almost daily? Some people have been waiting for over 1-2 weeks. The unlocked version just got pushed back until the end of May. I was one of the people waiting. At&T is pretty good with unlocking anyways, especially since this device will be paid in full. But if someone wants the best unlocked potential, the tmobile version has more bands than both the AT&T and htc unlocked version.

I'll tell you exactly why they are great deals...

I'm on a grandfathered unlimited data plan + 1500 messaging for $20/month. If I get the subsidized handset, I'll be paying about $30/month more than I am now (and still wouldn't have unlimited data), which over two years works out to about $600, which totally makes this a deal.

But, I've only had my GS2 for about 18 months, so I'm going to give this another few months to come down in the $550-600 range before I bite.

This. If your going to be locked to ATT anyway why not let them subsidize your phone and get it for $150?

I'll buy at $500. Maybe a month from now?

lolos 05-12-2013 02:49 AM

Why are you worried so much about being locked, can't the phone be rooted and unlocked easily?

You forget first month charge, activation fee, tax on full price, some hidden fees, ect... You're gonna pay over $700 for the phone by that way.

This is true. I learned this the hard way with Tmobile a few months back when the Note ii was shiny and new. After hassles and fees it wouldve been much better to just buy one from ebay full price.

peaceonearth 05-12-2013 06:21 AM

I guess I got spoiled with my galaxy nexus, which was only $400 (and even that was a big waste of money :P)

washyou 05-12-2013 09:24 AM

interested in HTC one ATT, is that easy to unlock it?

HTC.com has unlocked version at same price but backordered.

superflex 05-12-2013 09:36 AM

I'll take non laggy phones for $560, Alex.

What prevents someone from adding a line to get a subsidized phone, then cancelling the line and paying the ETF? Does that affect the remaining line/lines?

The lag has been very subjective. I have 3 of them between family members and there is little to no lag. I haven't even turned off the animations and such. Mine was a batch made in Korea so I don't know if that's the factor. If you read the lag threads on xda you find great variance in people's perception of lag. If you are trying to compare stock touch wiz to a phone you own running an optimized custom ROM then of course there's lag. Not a fair comparison. Phone is phenomenal and I have no regrets.

The phone is locked for the SIM as well as the boot loader for now. So rooting has nothing to do unlocking the phone. The exploit that SIM unlocked the S3 for free is not available on the S4. Give it time. The boot loader will get unlocked and then you will have ROMs maximizing the incredible hardware. But even in the absence of that the phone is great.

If anyone is considering it don't take anyone's advise on lag (including mine). Go to an AT&T and try it.

As far as battery. I noticed that for the first few days I had bad battery life but after that I can easily go a day and a half to 2 days of normal usage. This includes weather updates, active sync on 5 accounts and wifi on all the time. Again, some may have a runaway process draining battery and that can be looked into, but overall the battery is great for the size and power of the device.

Just wanted to share my first hand experience.

Yes, look up the band on your carrier and compare to see if it will give you lte. Ebay and other places can give you unlock codes but they are pricey right now.

Though I somewhat agree, for Samsung's flagship phone, it should not lag out of the box.

I wonder what kind of traveling he is talking about. How about the kind that allows you to use a pre-paid SIM card from an international provider? He doesn't want to pay ATT. Clear enough for you?

Depending on the country and phone use, pre-paid could cost more.
