Gah. I want a tablet, but I don't want to get an iPad. BUT unfortunately, the iPad is from Apple which has good customer support and lots of apps.

The kindle is riddled with issues and the nexus has crappy customer support (thank you ASUS). Not to mention there aren't enough apps for these devices.

Again, I don't want an iPad, but it's the only good tablet out there.

Perhaps it's time for a change. More efficient and smaller government, less govt employees, and less taxes. Less money spent on handouts.

FernandoVenezuela 05-14-2013 10:32 AM

Buying one from Apple is only 499. That means this deal is only fifty bucks cheaper but you don't get all the warranty and support coverage. Plus I am willing to bet ten million dollars that they are refurbs. You really want to buy someone else's problem? What is the return policy etc.? Not a great deal honestly. You will get burned by this. Just don't say that you weren't warned first.

if its NIB you will get one -year apple warranty. And refurbs get the same warranty. If there is one company im not worried about buying refurbs from, its apple, they do an excellent job refurbing.

I feel the same way, the Android apps suck. At least the iPad holds its value so you can resell later.

I agree. Thats why you should buy it from apple and not form an ebay seller named "world wide distributors" apple charges 449 for the same refurbed item! Why not buy it from them?

either I can pay 40 for shipping or 40 for tax and then have it shipped if I send it to family in CA to save shipping so basically I lose either way :-(

Actually its $50 more and then tax on top of that which is a little more then $40. And please don't say its a refurb if you don't know for sure... I'm sure there is an ebay seller that would love to take you up on your ten million dollar bet...

i want to buy a tablet today. My needs are minimal. I want to watch movies off my network at home ( I will be on the balcony smokin a cigar) play games and surf the web. I want a 10 inch display i have been leaning towards samsung galaxy 2. But this looks very tempting but its hitting outside my budget any input would be highly appreciated

If you have other apple products (apple tv, iPhone, etc.) you can sync them to each other and create an apple environment. FaceTime with friends that have apple products. I don't know much about the samsung galaxy 2 or your financial situation. The apple app store has a ton of apps: games, movies, music etc. I bought one for my mom from the earlier deal and she loves it.

Seriously doubt it is a refurb.... whether Apple will cover it under warranty is another matter. Apple is great, but they are not as good when it comes to warranty under resellers. However, with that said, the chances of having an issue after 14 days and before 1 year is very, very low. And for $90 (approx) in savings it is a very good deal for the 4th gen (which is rarely discounted in New condition). Especially since it is looking more and more like it will be Oct before iPad 5 is released.

Downside is the 16GB model.... Retina apps (ie: usually games) can run over 1GB a piece... so even with cloud storage for media, 16GB is not alot of space for apps... Would not be surprised if Apple drops 16GB from their lineup altogether in the next couple of gens. Adding 128GB models was the first step then boost $499 model to 32Gb will be next step.

I'm on same boat. Don't like Apple but can't find anything better than iPad at the moment. I'm in real need of HD res tablet for textbook reading. Was considering buying Nook HD+ but it's no longer on sale (WTH !). Can't wait any longer. Study is more important so, I'll sell this when Surface 2 come out. iPad would probably hold more value resell than nexus 10 (same price with tax and shipping anyway)

For about warranty, I got iPhone 4s from local CL in December, last month it's acting up, cracking noise when making phone call, and I have no problem to swapped out for a new hand set at Apple store, even it is unlocked and under T-Mobile service.

For those that missed out on the last deal that was for 449.

The company selling is also on Amazon Marketplace as well if folks are worried about purchasing from someone on ebay (however the price isn't as good on their Amazon Marketplace store front) - they have pretty decent feedback on Amazon:

How did you sell it? Craigs? eBay? Considering selling my cracked screen Retina 16gb and then rebuying a future release.

ychen07 05-14-2013 01:35 PM

The following products carry only a manufacturer s warranty:

Computers, Video Cameras, MP3 Players, iPods, iPads, Any Apple Products, Tablets, PC Hardware, Navigation, Point Cards, Software & Projectors- We will not accept any returns if the unit has been open and the factory

This is from their eBay product page. Sounds like there IS warranty.

I actually got a new 64gb ipad 2 about two years ago, by trading a new 16gb 4s launch week. Ive been using that ipad everyday since for surfing, studying, xbmc, playing hd music vidz in the car. I sold mine on CL. Was hopin to find an ipad 4 64gb for 650. Oh well no more booty shakin music vidz in the car. Hd at least.

Once you get the ipad you can check the warranty on apple.com using the serial number. A refurb will not have more than 90 days warranty.

Craigslist, Figure 13% if sold through Ebay inc PP fees. The iPad3 I sold for $380 which would have been almost $50 in Ebay fees! I paid $3.50 or so for a tea and cookie at Starbucks and offered the buyer a drink as well. Far far less than Ebay which exist for shareholders and for items not in high demand.

icecubez189 05-14-2013 03:38 PM

First off, it is listed as brand new and factory sealed. Secondly, even if it was refurbished, all Apple refurbished products come with a one year standard warranty anyways, same as a new model. Thirdly, if you were to buy it from Apple.com, the price is 499 + tax. Depending on where you live, this can be an extra $50 or more. So you are saving at least $100 buying from eBay.

Apple does a great job refurbishing products, they are not sold unless they meet strict requirements. Or else they wouldn't give it a standard 1 year warranty, unlike a lot of other refurbished products out there.

Ning116 05-14-2013 04:17 PM

I bought from this seller last time, the ipad screen is defective, seller refused to send back, and Apple store would only exchange with a yellow box item what they call re-manufactured not refurbished. (I had a ipad 1 refurbished it runs great) I thought it would be mostly new according to them, but I'm wrong. The first replacement they gave me has a dented corner, someone must drop it on the floor! So I had to drive to Apple store for a second time. I'm very sad about this. And who can tell me what is meant by re-manufactured??

So, if you're in CA and you have to pay tax - is it better to get this (because it's likely brand new, sealed, etc., but may not get a full 1-year warranty from Apple), or a refurb directly from Apple (still get 1 year warranty, Apple's refurb process is pretty good, etc.)

It comes out to same price, either way.

Thoughts?

I'd go with the refurbished. Apple's refurbished products are top notch. They look absolutely brand new because well... they replace it with new casing etc.
