CostCo Membership Certificate Deal ($55 with Free 48 pk Batteries, Free Chicken, Free 35pk Water etc)

Instead of buying or renewing your Costco membership at a costco store, it's a much better deal to buy this certificate. Why? It comes with really great coupons that value at more than $50. Some of the coupons are:

A free rotisserie chicken
Free Kirkland Signature™ 48 pack "AA" batteries
FREE Kirkland Signature Spring or drinking Water, 35/16.9oz
$5 off food court 18" Pizza
$5 off any fresh meat item
and more!

I have "renewed" my last 2 Costco membership this way. The store does not care if you are an existing member. But I normally let my membership expire for 1 whole month before I use this certificate to sign up a new member. There is an extra benefit by doing this: I essentially get 1 extra month of membership for free if you sign up on the 1st of the month (for example 5/1/2012 to 5/31/2013 = 13 months of membership!). You can also buy two to get the Executive Member. The shipping is FREE with this link. Here is the link for buying the certificate:

At the end of your 12 months membership, if you have a costco AMEX card, they will extend and charge your card for 1 year automatically. So how do you manage to get the extra month essentially? And then how to pay with the certificate bought here rather than letting them charge your AMEX card?

tomprc 06-23-2013 11:36 PM

I don't have Costco AmEx. I find it has no value at all comparing with the Fidelity AmEx card, which is 2% everything without any annual fee. For gas, you should use a 5% cashback card such as PenFed. So I would suggest you to cancel the card.

I dont think you will be able to return anything from you previous membership if you do this. Do you know OP?

kris259 06-24-2013 12:39 AM

how long are these certificates good for? My membership doesnt expire ill November I think...

what are the exact steps for existing members to get the most out of this as I think the post is a little confusing on waiting a month past your membership expire date etc... I thought there were some rules that costco has about this kinda of stuff (getting a new membership - when you just had a membership expire????)

Example:

5/1/2012 bought new member

5/31/2013 membership still valid, 13 months from 5/1/2012

6/1/2013 expired

7/1/2013 buy new member. Now it's 14 months away from 5/1/2013.

Friend of Sonic 06-24-2013 12:52 AM

I bought a new membership and got these coupons. They mailed 'em pretty quick.

phillylex 06-24-2013 05:22 AM

Wow this hasn't been posted in like 2 weeks. Good work.

timtim2008 06-24-2013 05:40 AM

no watermelon?

jimlittle 06-24-2013 06:16 AM

I live fairly far away from my nearest store.

After getting the membership package in the mail, can you wait a week or two to go to the store and get the deals and your ID card?

DesertCoyote 06-24-2013 06:28 AM

I believe that for my costco, if you let your membership expire within 30 days...when you renew they will postdate your new start date to when your old membership expired. Of course, you can usually continue to use your expired card for several weeks before they will insist you renew.

ktg 06-24-2013 07:05 AM

Didn't they add some fine print to these certificates indicating they are not applicable for renewals?

Also, there is no annual fee on my Costco Amex.

Of course. The coupons I just received expire on 7/31/2013

They don't really know who you are. You can also switch between yourself and family member. Costco AmEx has annual fee if you cancel your Costco membership.

Can you redeem them all at the same trip? Costco is on the way to the beach and I have always been interested in checking it out but not something I could really put to work for me often at that distance.

teaberry 06-24-2013 07:48 AM

I am not a Costco member, but got a $100 gift card during an Amex deal last year. I wish I can buy this membership with that Costco gift card. Does Costco offer these freebies to new members if I sign-up in store as well? Also, do they give 2 member IDs with this deal just like Sam's Club?

This particular deal won't be available in-store - sometimes they run promotions but I haven't seen one in store the last couple years I've been going.

You can however get a $10 costco cash card if a current member refers you - it's on the paperwork you fill out. They also get a $10 card too. At least that was the case a couple years ago. You do get 2 member cards for Costco - same as Sams Club.

If you want to check out Costco w/o buying the membership you can walk in and tell them you're buying booze (sometimes they get snarky when you tell them that lol) or using the pharmacy. Both of those options don't require a membership. If you actually do go there to buy booze - I recommend the Kirkland Spice Rum or Bourbon - both high quality and inexpensive (rum = $15 for 1.75 liter). Kirkland = Costco brand.

I am a costco member getting devorced. Would this certificate make sense for me. Does costco make devorced people get new memberships. Thanks for any info.

Melhardy11423 06-24-2013 09:32 AM

With costco
1) Do you always have to pay with either costco amex or cash?
2) With this basic membership do you not get 2% back rebate on costco purchases?

1) Any american express card will work - doesn't have to be Costco's. You can also pay in cash or debit card.
2) Correct, only the executive membership gives you cash back and those cost double whatever the current Gold star member price is. Right now it's $110 I believe for the executive card. You can upgrade whenever you want or downgrade afaik. You need to spend $2750 to break even on executive membership.

Does anyone know if I can use this to join as a Business Member?

I believe the answer is NO. I am looking at the certificate form on my hands. There is nowhere saying "Business Name". So the form appears to be for personal use only.

slayerizm 06-27-2013 08:31 AM

Gotcha. Thanks!

If I buy 2 of these to get the exec membership, I get double the coupons?

that should be the case because each certificate is a separate pack. To be sure, you can put in 2 separate orders as they are free shipping any way.

Did you happen to have a phone number or contact info? Can't seem to find it on their website.

Give customer service the certificates before the renewal happens.

AndroAsc 08-25-2013 04:23 AM

If I buy 2 certs for executive membership, and I cancel before the year is up, do I get back the $110 back? I'm doing this because I hardly shop at costco, but sometimes I need to buy their stuff (so about 3-4 times per year).

AndroAsc 08-25-2013 04:29 AM

When do the coupons expire?

isntgreenone 08-25-2013 04:40 AM

there is no CostCo in my area.

:-(
