This model has stuck around for a long time. I was used to Brother coming out with a new model each year until this one.

Cool. The $10 off $50 tech accessories coupon wasn't working on any printers I tried recently in-store. Same situation about 1-2 weeks ago, whereas the $10/$50 tech coupon was working online-only. Definitely worth the extra $2 for many to save on the gas/time. Probably evens out or better once you factor in your favorite, highest-paying cashback website.

donldmn 07-07-2013 03:58 AM

I got this for $37 a while ago using a price match and that 25 off 75 coupon... good times.

Anyway this is the best printer I ever had (I have a shelf full of old printers) and is very easy to use with really cheap ink.

akiboshi 07-07-2013 06:06 AM

Wouldn't it be possible to order at a store kiosk to apply the $10 off $50, then the in-store 20% at the register?

lgrover7 07-07-2013 06:07 AM

I bought one of these for my Mother in Law last week hoping this would happen. I bought it in store for $99 , using the $40 groupon gc and rewards I had accumulated. What would happen if I called and asked for a price match instead of driving an hour to the store? Would they issue a rewards refund or a gift card? Thanks

So true, CL is 90% scammers and a lot of areas, folks don't even bother check CL due to the scammers, fake postings, and not wanting to meet strangers. And besides, with the social media age that we are in, talking in person, face to face happens less and less vs. doing everything online, texting, web chat, etc.

Yes, but you have to update the firmware of the printer first.

Mofo Jones 07-07-2013 06:56 AM

I'm tempted by this but I want duplex printing (been doing the manual flip with my printer for 9 years and I'm sick of it) so I'd probably step up to the MFC-J625W model.

They have an app that will let you do it but you have to open stuff with the app to print.

Discover won't allow CB for printers at Staples...does anyone know if Chase Freedom does? I can't get the website to load.

Edit: Nevermind...finally worked 3 extra pts...and also not eligible for printers. Stingy!

This actually happened to me back in June when they were on sale for $59.99. They put the J430W on sale for $10 cheaper the following week. Went in with my receipt & they did price adjustment & gave me $10 cash back!!

JeanetteB 07-07-2013 07:29 AM

Does it come with a set of black and color cartridges?

Edit: Q&A section states that it does. I love answering my own questions. :)

How's the printer working for you? Have you set up the wireless print ?

numike 07-07-2013 07:47 AM

Wouldn't buy anything but a Brother laser. No more inkjets for me.

Nice! thanks for the review!

Jeffro422 07-07-2013 08:09 AM

Would anyone who already owns this printer point to some cheap ink on Amazon. I read the reviews and some mention the ink cartridges not fitting this model even though it is advertised as fitting. Can someone post a link of known good/cheap/working ink cartridges. I just don't want to buy some that don't fit.

Agreed, my only criticism is that it will give a premature low ink warning which I couldn't override.
But if you cover the little windows on the cartridges you can get more life out of them before you have to replace. ;)
Great printer! Thanks OP :P

Toby16custom 07-07-2013 08:35 AM

Which is funny because that is the set where a ton of people claim they don't actually fit. I wonder if these people just aren't smart or if the seller sometimes ships a different cartridge. Thanks!

there are 32 sellers offering this ink cartridge bundle. If you find cartridges that fit or print well make sure you buy from the same seller next time you need more. YMMV between sellers

JHB 07-07-2013 09:26 AM

Last year when these were on sale I replaced my work and home printers with the 430/435's thinking I could standardize and make ink replacements much easier. So 5 total.

Overall, it's a good printer, and I like Brother - they make a good product. So I'd recommend this printer but no device is perfect.

On the negative side

1) I dislike the enclosed paper tray. You can't just slip in a few sheets of special paper but must remove the tray, fill, replace
2) It's a big, heavy printer so don't expect a compact breadbox-size. (Yeah, I know. Specs publish the size. But somehow it was still bigger than I expected.)
3) both my kids have Macs (college). One was able to get hers to work but the other never could get connected.
4) One of the printers has given up the ghost on printing yellow. I've tried every solution around. Tech support says non-Brother ink is the issue (of course).
5) My associate (who has printer #5) has never been able to get the wireless feature working. She's pretty savvy, but maybe it's user error.

I found varying degrees of setup difficulty among the 4 I set up. Some were super simple, others - for no apparent reason - were problematic. (But isn't that true of all technology?) It's been awhile, but it does seem like starting with a standard USB setup and then enabling wireless later was the best way.

I've only bought ink once and it was from INK4WORK on Amazon. They seem to be working okay, but once again, I use very little ink.

I think the process is breaking off the cap, but leaving the plastic film covering on.

akiboshi 07-07-2013 10:21 AM

FYI: I've read online that off brand refills will eventually clog & it'll null & void any warranty since Brother would notice original ink was not used. However, my son feels that he's saved over $600 in ink over a 4 yr. span with his HP since printers are cheap when purchased on sale.

no override. the manager scrutinized the 10 off a bit at the register but luckily became occupied with another customer as I pulled out the 20% off for the associate. I had an extra 5 off 30 that was burning a hole in my pocket! but decided that would push it too far.

It is just like ordering online except at the end you choose to pay at the register. Take the printout for the cashier to the register and pay. Wait for delivery of your printer via Staples courier. Find the computer and the printer usually in the back of the store. Some stores there is no customer kiosk and you have to have a Staples employee do the order for you.

Ability to use store coupons on what is essentially an online order and you can only use Staples gift cards or egift cards in the store not online at the present time.

Disregard the stuff in the middle at 0.01. Those are just the penny items i stacked on for this week's deal.

I have a feeling the 5 off 30 would have worked since I managed to stack a 20%, a 5 off 30, AND a $2 off photo paper coupons today without any manager override. E_Watson basically explained the process a few posts ago.

Tried to go to Office Max because it was closer. On the phone they said they would price match staples and accept their coupon. I went to the store right after I called and they would not let me use both because it would bring the price to less then their cost. So Office Max will never let us get deals less then their cost.

LoRdAcId 07-07-2013 12:08 PM

This is seriously one of the best printers out there.

Bull !! That's just one store. What one store does doesn't apply to all their stores. Try another store if you have one close by.

Where is this 10/50 that you used? It is not the 10/50 tech accessories that expired on 7/6?

Wonder if I can use a 10/75 app cpn instead of the 10/50?

I got this about 2 years ago from one of these deals? (not exactly sure but it's definitely been at least a year+). Anyway the printer is very nice, but the aggressive cleaning it does definitely burns through ink much faster than it should. We rarely print stuff at our house so occasionally I unplug the printer to prevent the cleaning but eventually this will probably gunk up the ink.

The wifi was very easy to setup, although the touchpad is annoying if your password has a lot of different characters. You need to cycle 7 times for instance on the number 1 to get to a capital C for instance. But it worked great with my wifi, and I can print from my desktop and laptop without issue. We went with the Brother ink for a while but I couldn't stomach the cost since most of it was just getting wasted on the auto-cleaning. So last month I got a huge multi pack for $15 on Amazon. This is the exact one I got:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006X7GXFU/

INK4WORK was the seller (since there are a ton of different sellers with mixed reviews).

One word of caution. If you are low on ink have the printer ON before replacing the cartridge. I thought I got a bum cartridge but just took it back out and pushed it back in and it recognized once it was on. But even if only a 1/3 of the cartridges are good or last 1/2 as long it is vastly superior to the Brother branded ink.

HTH

Did you have to provide the $40 instant savings coupon to the cashier yourself?

I haven't done an in-store kiosk order before...so you basically order it for $99.99 and then give all the coupons or codes to the cashier at the register? And can use both online-only and in-store only coupons? Would a $25 off $75 online/phone coupon work in place of the $10 off $50 tech accessories?

Yes. The instant savings I think is part of the kiosk order cashier print out and comes into play once the cashier loads the kiosk order into the register by scanning the bar code on the kiosk order. It works w/o an override most likely because this same product is sold in the store. That tech coupon must have needed an override by someone(could have been the cashier) as the 08 year implies an override per past posts for online coupons used in the store.

InEvX 07-07-2013 12:53 PM

This is not my favorite printer, but it is pretty decent.. Nothing too fancy, but the ink is ridiculously cheap. If you print a lot, this is probably the best way to go.
My main gripe with the cheap ink cartridges: the cartridges were always 1/2 empty before the printer forced me to change the cartridge. Very annoying.

I went ahead with the Epson 3520. Extremely quiet, duplex, fast, etc. Ink is not as cheap ($6 for a full set), but the quality is much better IMO.

Ahh ok. So if I want to avoid a manager getting involved, I shouldn't try to use online coupons for in-store kiosk orders. I was hoping to use a $25 off $75 along with the 20% for the printer and photo paper.

EDIT: Rotated Photo

Where did u find the $40 off coupon???
Also, where is coupon 63574???
Thanks for any info!!

As E_Watson mentioned, it was already applied as part of the kiosk order (referring to the $40 off, Code 63574). They are having a weekly deal on this printer, which gives instant savings of $40. I do not know if a 25 off 75 would work, but you can test it out on Staples.com and trying to see if the code would apply to the printer in the cart.

Further, E_Watson may be right in that there was an override, just that I was never actually informed of it. The cashier never called for a manager. The manager just kinda strolled over on her own. As I mentioned before, the manager did scrutinize the $10 off at the register, but personally I don't remember her typing anything in at the cashier. So perhaps a bit YMMV

Just ordered online from staples anyways.

I'm glad my coupon idea helped some people.

A few thoughts on this printer which I have used myself for a year by now:
1) Wireless works fine for me most of the time; I've had to unplug to reset only a couple times.
2) Print quality is fine but not great, though easily worth it for generic ink cost.
3) At staples you actually make money on the ink as I pay less than $2 a cartridge.
4) I've printed some photos which were good enough for my purposes; the printer did jam repeatedly with photo paper though which was very frustrating so I only recommend this printer for printing on ordinary paper.
5) A huge plus for me is the front loading inks and paper (paper actually is completely internal after loading which saves space).
6) This is probably the lowest the price will go and it's definitely worth it.

Can these online coupons be added when doing the kiosk order, or is there not a place to enter them like on staples.com?

If you don't plan to use an online coupon like the $10 off $50, would the 20% off still be based off of $99.99 for a regular in-store purchase?

Can folks who own this printer tell me the yield on the cartridges?

I currently have a HP 3380 that I got in a yard sale for $5, but it seems to be reaching end of its life... should I get this, or wait for a laser deal? I don't print much, but do a lot of FAR deals.

My understanding from past posts is that you can do this 2 ways via the kiosk. 1) add the coupon to the kiosk order. A kiosk order is just like a Staples.com order with a few differences like having the option to pay at the register. The online coupon will print out as a coupon on the cashier copy and requires scanning and an override if it is online only. 2) Give the cashier the code manually. Still requires override if online only coupon. Believe that a low level cashier can override up to $10 or apply a comp Q for up to $10. No, most likely the in-store price is going to be $59.99 and take 20% off from that price.

tooquick 07-07-2013 01:42 PM

Anyone know if the online deal would combine with a $25 off $75 coupon? If an extra $25 was spent.

Only if you add filler. Coupons are always AFTER instant savings when using an online coupon. You would need $15.01 of filler to use the coupon for a strict online not kiosk order.

akiboshi 07-07-2013 01:51 PM

basically if you plan on doing a kiosk order with the 10 off 50 tech accessory coupon, it is likely you will require an override. the 20% off for in store (non kiosk) would be off 59.99.

perhaps the easiest way to do this without getting manager involved is this.
1. kiosk order at staples with no coupon. pay at register option
2. use 5 off 30 coupon at register
3. finally use 20% at register. this should be 20% off 99.99 since its a kiosk order.

you miss out a little bit on savings but you may avoid too much scrutiny.

$10/$75 mobile app coupon may work as well if cashier will take it as price before instant savings is $99. If it does not then offer up the $5/$30.

Excellent idea. That'd be the equivalent of using a $25 off $75 online without having to add $15.01 of filler.

I thought there was a store version. Yes, may work if cashier does not read the coupon. I only say may as I have not followed use of that coupon last week and do not know what will and will not stack with it. Should be a thread from last week on that coupon on here or fw that might give you a heads up.

po-90260 07-07-2013 02:24 PM

Poor reviews on Amazon. You can't print b/w if you're out of colored ink!
Noisy, slow, paper jams, disconnects from network, pulls two sheets etc.

Cheap doesn't mean slick. I'll save my $50 and wait. In the meantime I can't print.

Someone on fw posted that 10/50 tech cpn did not stack with 20%, but 5/30 did work. So I guess it is better to use the 10/75 app cpn since that should stack with the 20% though it can be ymmv since total will be at $59.99 after scanning the IS cpn.

I think the 10/75 will work as the 20% takes off $20 and most coupons work on the pre-tax sub-total. Been so long since we've seen a good deal with instant savings via kiosk hard to remember sometimes what stacks. $30 bucks plus tax with $10/$75. Tempting.

Is there any trick to print in B&W when the color ink runs out?

henucu 07-07-2013 03:20 PM

Great printer.its working fine on generic cheapo inks for past two years.

MonEl 07-07-2013 03:23 PM

I have a similar Brother printer to this mine is Model MFC-265W. I made the mistake of using inexpensive replacement ink cartridges and ruined the black printer head. I was very happy with it till then. The head cleaning feature could not unclog it no matter how many times I tried. I'm buying this to replace that printer, this seems like a good deal. I've read from some sources that dye based inks might clog less then the pigment based. Not sure how true that is but I'll try doing that if it's possible. Another possible cause of the problem is I can go weeks without printing anything, maybe the printer needs to print more often. It's always on during the day and it is supposed to automatically clean the head periodically, maybe that's not enough. Anyway, I'm in for one at $49.99 before taxes. If this one clogs too, I'm done with Brother Inkjets.

I'll probably use something like this for the refills:

I have the Brother printer that is listed in this deal and it works great. It does periodically automatically clean the print head--sounds like it is randomly starting to print, but doesn't.

If you completely shut down the power to the printer--like if you use a surge protector and shut it down all the way or if you use green surge protectors--the printer won't be able to automatically clean itself. I just keep it on all the time (idle/sleep mode) so it knows when to do its thing.

It's worked pretty well so far (even with third-party replacement ink). I've had it since the deal last year and it has replaced my HP printers.

chickdr 07-07-2013 04:01 PM

I have a MFC-665CW I got years ago on a similar deal(paid about $20 for it). I have always used generic inks and had no issues. Still working perfectly. I love these Brother all in one printers.

Ordered the printer online this morning. $40 comes off automatically plus used coupon 12006 for $10 off.
Than I saw all the posts so I went to staples & picked up my printer. Here's what they took off:
$40 automatically, 20% coupon(expired today), & a $5 off $30 in add coupon. Total came to $42.99 plus tax.
Mgr. didn't know why online was an extra $10 off told her the code & she still couldn't find the extra $10 off. Better deal buying at store or it would of been $45.99 online purchase. Just wish I could of got cheaper. Oh...I used my $40 groupon also!!! Thanks for all the helpful posts SDealers:)

I have the same printer and I do coupons as well :) I got to tell you this printer is soooo worth it!!!! A set of Ink (black&color) cost around $7-12 on amazon:) The ink last about 6 months or even more. HTH

Question for owners: can you make a copy without the computer being on?

mystery250 07-07-2013 07:51 PM

I don't see why not - every all in one printer I've ever used has been able to.

Debating throwing this on the old credit card and paying it off when my bill comes around, never use my credit card but I need a decent printer.. Not need, but it'd be convenient..

LoloBond 07-07-2013 08:17 PM

yea you can scan fax copy without computer.

Also if ink cartridges are finished, you can still scan and fax.

LoveScream 07-07-2013 08:30 PM

Bought the printer in store at Staples. I made the order through the in store kiosk on the website with the $10 off code and then paid at the cashier up front to use the extra 20% in store coupon to combine and it worked. They did need the manager to make one of the codes work but it was no problem. Total came up to $31 with the tax! Going to ship to my house too. Hope this printer works well. Wish I had bought that groupon way back then.

tooquick 07-07-2013 09:21 PM

I tried a second 10 off code for orders of $100 or more after I add a filler, but it rejected it, because it said cannot use a second dollar off coupon. Can anyone confirm if one of those 25 off 75 coupons would work? I may buy one on ebay.

You are limited to using one code for the same first five digits when signed into your account. Each coupon type has its own unique starting five digit code.

xecutionkrk 07-07-2013 09:30 PM

I got it with 2 years warranty for only $28.. I used the $50 free coupon code with $250 gift card purchase. Not only that I purchased bunch of 1cents deals.. My day was made because another loss to staples book :)

Jonathan22 07-07-2013 10:19 PM

Anyone else having issues with the adf top tray not feeding papers through properly for copies? Mine gets stuck half way or 3/4 through) Might jus be a defective unit. Besides that I love it.

it wasn't the same code, one was for 10 off 50 on office products, which op posted and the second was 10 off 100 in or more.

You cannot use 2 dollars off coupons online. Only one. You can add a freebie coupon but the minimum is the combined minimum of the 2 coupons.

Five digit store coupons are generally good 2 days past expiration if the cashier will scan them. Enter the store code tomorrow 7/8 online and it will say if it is expired or not.

Says invalid coupon when I just tried it. One assumes it is dead.

keane007 07-08-2013 01:54 AM

I have the 615 instead of this 430 model. I love mine's to bits and pieces. I only use generic ink carts. Bought mines ages ago for $80 @ OM. Got my $$$'s worth printing and saving from coupon deals. Best choice ever.

I bought just 1 case of paper $10 and 1 box of mix-bulk high yield ink $30, and years later I'm still with my first set of supplies... while I've saved $1000+ using my own printable coupons.

Not sure which lower model, but a friend of mine's complain how his lower model wastes too much ink auto cleaning daily. Mines is different. Might wanna read up on that once yours arrive.

Why is the scanner square dimensions (2400 x 2400 dpi)? Is the whole glass square and that's why?

mrtrance 07-08-2013 10:19 AM

So anyone tried to do kiosk order and use the 20% and a 10/75 app cpn? Will those stack and make the printer price be $29.99+tax?

Poor reviews on Amazon. You can't print b/w if you're out of colored ink!
Noisy, slow, paper jams, disconnects from network, pulls two sheets etc.

Cheap doesn't mean slick. I'll save my $50 and wait. In the meantime I can't print.

I'm the same way, lol. Personally, I can't go back to "inkjet" printing. I've been using a laser printer for several years and I remember how long it took to print a page with the inkjet...it drove me nuts.

I have a friend looking for a basic printer to print her ebay labels and was going to suggest this one but since you mentioned the poor reviews, I don't think I will. So thank you for that.

I'd look into recommending Epson 3520. Ink not as cheap as brother, but it's around $6-7.50 for a full set of ink. Zero jams, great print quality, duplex scan/print, etc. Great reviews too.

THANKS!! It took a while to realize I had to select the item with 2 sets, rather than 2 of the single items. But after that, the coupon worked. 2 set, to my door, for 8 bucks. Nice!

naireland 07-08-2013 12:34 PM

Great deal. I used my $40 groupon coupon that I got for $25. Also used Discover card for an additional 5% back and 5% again in Staples rewards, and 2% back from urlhasbeenblocked. Total cost out the door was $31.64. The ink can be purchased on Amazon for as low as 71 cents a cartridge, and 1 cent for a pack of paper from Staples for new reward members.

I'm coming from an HP wide format printer than has given me all sorts of hell for years now. I have been using refillable cartridges with hacked chips and still HP incist on not using aftermarket cartridges or purposely turning off a certain color when printing until running a series of head cleans before working perfect for 2 prints and stopping again.
So far this Brother printer has performed flawlessly. Setup was very quick and was connected wirelessly to every computer on the network. You can even print directly from an IOS or Android device via an app. The drivers were quick and painless with plenty of options and the ADF scanner performs noticeably quicker than my comparable Epson all in one. For anyone in the market to ditch their printer I suggest you make the leap to Brother

So there is no issue at the register with the $40.00 instant savings barcode scanning when we are doing a kiosk order and paying at the register? It is scanning OK with no manager override needed and then we can give the 20% which will take off 20% from the $100 price to lower the price down by another $20.

And then add the 10/75 or a 5/30. At this point it has been confirmed by someone who did the deal yesterday that the instant savings will scan w/o issue. It was the 10/50 that required the override. Your are still going to need a willing cashier to scan the now expired 20% which is not expired when entering the code online and should work through tomorrow and to apply it to a kiosk order but you could add photo paper to mask that somewhat. and of course 2nd coupon like the other dollars coupon is always YMMV. Nike: just do it.

My local staples is pretty coupon friendly and don't even look at the expiration dates, but just scan whatever I give them. So I don't see any issues with stacking the 20% and a 10/75, but just wanted to confirm that the $40 IS will scan fine at register with no manager override. Since the IS scans fine then no issue on my end with stacking coupons.

I did the 20% code guy typed it in off my phone and than I had the $40 Groupon deal which he typed in off my phone also. Got it for $12.30 out the door. Not a bad deal. Gotta exchange it today though since my adf tray keeps jamming paper for some reason. Works great with android app too :)

You did store purchase or kiosk/pay at the register? Someone else that did kiosk and posted receipt showed $20 came off from the $100 price. I wonder why yours took off from the $59.99 price and not $100 price.

Which 20% code did you use...the 26703 or 30903?...I don't know if one makes a difference or not, but the person that got $20 off used the 26703 code.

I ordered at kiosk for delivery and paid at register, with tax was .$37.47 I paid with Groupon e card so in actuality cost me $22.47(cause the groupon was $15/$40) and then get 5% back in rewards. Ebay has plenty of people selling the same ink at that price or even better priced with free shipping....I get it from them all the time for my Brother mfc-5890 (LC61 or LC65) Was never disappointed. Will do the same for this printer.

I believe it was the 26703 coupon for 20% expired on 7/7/13. I asked cashier why the 20% didn't come off the $99.99. He just stated it comes off the $59.99 price. The other coupon people used expired on 7/6. Didn't have coupon 12006 in hand but asked them to try it & mgr. couldn't find in system. I purchased in store not kiosk. Wondering if our Medina, Oh. store has a kiosk.

Just following up. I was the guy who posted the receipt yesterday. Doing a kiosk order and paying at the register is key to getting 20% off the 99.99 listed price vs. receiving 20% off 59.99.

There may still honor the 20% for tomorrow if any one still wants to attempt it. Code 12006 will no longer work, but those with 5/30 or 10/75 should still be able get it out the door for around $30 to $34.

greenshell 07-08-2013 09:06 PM

for those bought online, how much is it in your online order status? Mine shows 60 + tax, the coupon seems is not applied. But in my credit card pending charge, it is 50 + tax

I was able to get this printer today in store with the 20% off and the $5 off $30. No issue getting the "expired" code to work in store.

Ordered on Sunday, delivered today. It would have been nice if it was shipped in a box other than the printer box. Nothing like telling the whole neighborhood you've got a new printer sitting on your doorstep.

How do you scan multiple pages at the same time...I tried to scan 1 page by keeping the scan page on the top and it doesn't do it. So i need to keep under the scanner to do it..

If you leave the unit powered on (eg; it sleeps in power-saving mode when idle) it runs through fewer cleaning cycles and wastes a lot less ink. Well, at least that is the way it works w/my Canon MG6220.

Yeah, just did my last order today at a kiosk for $34.99 using Rewards. Funny how SlickDeals called this deal DEAD when it was "alive and well" until Staples closed its doors tonight. I guess once the tech coupon stopped working, it was dead as far as they were concerned since they make their $$$ off of the referral links.

I got a call today from Staples saying my order was on hold. When I called the lady I spoke to said the coupon I used (12006) was invalid on tech-which they considered a printer tol be. Anyone else order online with this code have this issue? Between it taking 3 days to contact me & her snotty attitude, I just canceled rather than paying $10 more & getting a week later.

Compare that to an Office Max I went to yesterday where they were wiiling to have UPSed a Nook HD+ from another store at no charge since they were out of stock.

I was charged 60 instead of 50, the order confirmation in my email and pending charge was both 50, but when the charge posted, I was charged 60. The online order status is 60 too

needed a printer for my uncle
I went to staples for this one for $60
I told him if he could try the 30903 coupon, he said it expired.
Asked me which coupon it was and I told him the 20% off.
He did a manual override
Total was $50 after 7% tax, not as good as some of you guys getting it for $35 but still good

thanks op

Anyone finding slicker deals (than previously listed) on the cartridges?

mfmruizv 07-20-2013 03:14 PM

I bought this months ago and barely opened it today, so cant return.
I just installed cartridges today, i get error message on printer saying not enough black ink. I have taken it out and shook it and can hear it in there and placed it back in, unplugged power but still persists.
I read online about holding down MENU/SET/START and quickly press * 2 8 6 4 so i tried the menu button,OK, and both black and green buttons but the maintenance mode doesnt come up to purge counter.
Has anyone experienced this, im wandering if its a defective cartridge or printer head ..?
It never asked me if i installed a new cartridge, when i took it out and placed it back in.. is that normal ?

It is under warranty right? Why not call Brother and ask them?
