eh....blew my wad the past few weeks with the case paper and backpacks and misc, so no rewards to spend :( $300+ in rewards waiting to be reissued over the next two months. Maybe if they issue August rewards on 10th... but no, usually later than that.

bpvh 08-02-2013 01:04 PM

Added to OP: Since the additional $4 per cart are noted as Recycling Rewards I would expect that they would require qualified purchase amounts to release.

A little off-topic, but
For the test markets (i.e. California), what's the policy on unissued recycling rewards before it switched to instant $1 discount?
I cannot see it in my rewards account anymore.
TIA.

Recycle for coupons went into effect in Calif. and select stores in Denver and Kansas City on June 9th. On June 13th apparently from a purchase during the week of June 11th there is this: LINK

Are the recycling transactions still in the "Detailed Transactions" history? Even if not, just because the customer interface does not have the info does not mean the system does not.

Yes they're still in detailed transactions. I'll try to buy stuff to release the ink rewards then. Thanks!

If you like this week's rewards item more than something you bought recently,
can't you return the item, (you would lose the rewards)
get a gift card and then use that money to buy the current preferred rewards item?

Bonus rewards items can be returned like any other items subject to OfficeMax's return policy.

An in-store return of a purchase paid for with rewards should be refunded via a merchandise card.

No worries. In practice most cashiers just grab what ever card is nearest anyway so it's as likely to receive refunds on gift cards as merchandise cards.

I'm sure there is a legal difference but at OM the practical difference is nil as purchases paid for with either type of card earns standard and bonus rewards. Same goes for Staples Gift cards and Staples Cash cards.

At OD it does make a difference as purchases paid for with gift cards can earn rewards while purchases paid for with merchandise cards can not earn rewards.

Free shipping with $20 purchase. Use those small reward cards!

eelydnic 08-05-2013 08:24 AM

for those who have teacher rewards: you get an additional 25% off (today is the last day) which, according to the fine print, includes ink. Since $59 threshold has to be after coupons, I believe these this should be correct:
$80 for ink
-20 (25% off)
-12 (20% rewards)
-30 ($6 per recycled inks)
= $18 after everything
not too bad ;)

They do have the teacher stuff in their stores available. You can check your local store to see when they are having their teacher appreciation days. Here's the link to check

The Teacher Appreciation Days are going on now August 3rd-5th. The store I went to had a big black and orange officemax bag on the front table as you enter, and it had some heshey chocolates and cookies in it. You might just want to call a store to see if they are still available.

I assume I can use the below coupon when buying ink?

http://view.ed4.net/v/FYCB4Z/XPL0...5C/WCYDID/

In that case, should I buy ink for $75 and apply the above coupon to be on safer side to meet the $59 OOP??

Edit - oops, coupon excludes HP ink.. Do they really mean it? Or are they like Staples? :)

In my experience, the restrictions against HP ink/toner in the terms of OM coupons are unenforced boilerplate but if the cashier is a term of coupon enforcer ....

Merchandise Credit: Credit for something YOU have returned. card funds belong to YOU. Well Technically. Can not be BOUGHT.
Gift Card: Funds belong to whoever holds the GC. Can be bought.

Above is just some part of legality. GCs and MCs are synonymous for most stores. But if OM wanted, it can back track a MC to the return transaction to the original customer. Not for GC.

The $59 needs to be after coupons and discounts:
"requires a minimum $59 HP ink purchase (after coupons or discounts)".
To date, rewards have not counted as a coupon or discount.

Purchase and recycle in the same transaction.

Are you sure that they come out as recycling rewards? When I did this deal last month, the extra $20 was just added to the MBR Earned column and recycling was still the normal $20 for $10 cartridges.

Yes, the bonus was added to the MBR earned column for me.
I bought 2 $43.49 cartridges, used a $25/$75 coupon, and recycled 10 cartridges.
The total amount of rewards posted correctly, except the bonus $20 recycling reward was tallied in the MBR column.

Provided I am correct, a single transaction is required for this offer:
GET $6 BACK in MaxPerks® Rewards (on up to 5 carts) for every qualifying HP brand or other national brand ink cartridge you recycle when you purchase $49 or more in HP ink.
++ IN-STORE ONLY
--- Limit 5 recycled cartridges at 3x rewards per customer.
--- Same transaction required for minimum $49 HP ink purchase.
A single transaction is not required for the basic recycling program in the recycle for rewards regions ($2 per cart, matching qualified purchase to release) of course.

So if you have carts to recycle, and you would still qualify under the basic recycling program, give it a go.

Part in green, I didnt see any mention there of having to recycle ink and buy ink in same transaction. I just see it as meaning that $49 purchasing threshold has to be met in one single transaction

Part in Blue, I understand that to mean that $49 in ink has to be bought in one transaction in order to qualify for the 3x recycling rewards

You are probably correct and I am only going to get the regular ink rewards, I have never done this promo before. I am just pointing out how I read it (or misread it )

You might be correct. The bit that leads me to single transaction is under the terms section:
Members who have already recycled 10 or more cartridges this calendar month will receive $4 in MaxPerks Rewards per cartridge, up to a maximum of $20 MaxPerks Rewards per member.
And of course there is always contacting MaxPerks customer service because the terms are not terribly clear.

I hate calling any customer service . If SD has taught any of us anything its that we can call one person today and get one answer then call a different person later and get an entirely different answer

Its too late for me to worry about what will or wont happen with the ink. I need to drop it off this weekend and I will be happy with whatever outcome.

I just wish they would phrase their terms a little more clearer and emphasize that ink purchase and ink recycle need to be done in a single transaction

I'm not losing any sleep over this . I am happy with the deal that I got.

I will update either way when the recycle rewards post to my acct, so it can help anyone else out in the future

What I meant is that go ahead and recycle 5 carts. If the full $6 in rewards is not awarded, contact MaxPerks customer service and explain that the terms were unclear.

To date, rewards have not counted as a coupon or discount.

Purchase and recycle in the same transaction.

Oops.. Neither got the 20% rewards nor the bonus recycling rewards..

I made sure that my store had these promo in the ad...

Not sure what went wrong.. I will have to call CS tomorrow I guess..

Give it 2 more business days to update before you call CS.

Sometimes the bonus take 2-4 business days to update, even after the purchase shows up online

As juliebeans noted, for OfficeMax MaxPerks rewards, the basic transaction data posts first and then the rewards data posts usually a day or three later. I do not worry about the rewards until a week after the transaction post date.

See unofficial FAQ Q/A #15.
